Not gonna lie, even after becoming a big fan of Tom's music, I was nervous as hell to listen to this. In fact, I put it off for a really long time because I knew Tom would have to absolutely slay it because anything less would be seen as a giant L. And he happened to slay it. As far as the original, the in your face tone of the song, the subject matter, the nostalgia of it...the track was way ahead of its time and I don't think it can ever be outdone. With that said, I identify with and stand behind the words Tom is professing much more than I do with Em's. I also think it has a much more positive, uplifting and powerful message. We all have to keep in mind, as well, that Tom created this remix because he was extremely inspired by the original, so much so that it motivated him to want to put his artistry on display in the same way. Artists do this ALL the time and I would bet my mortgage that he didn't make this remix with the intent of trying to be better than the original. No chance. At the end of the day it's an homage.
