Yes, given Shay's speed and the size of the map, it is practically impractical to use it on the route. But for shunting work, especially when loading bulk and liquid cargo, where fairly precise positioning of cars is required, Shay will be very useful, I think. Besides, it also looks cute.
Ah youtube deleted my previous reply because it thought that I linked to something. I did mention railroadstudio but I am now sure that there is no handbrake set. if you look at the moment he first couples to the cars, it just keeps rolling. if there is any handbrake set it would grind to a hold well before it would reach the first car. It's just slow :)
Realistic for geared engines. There is so much more resistance in the drivetrain that in real life these engines will nearly stop on a downgrade with no brakes set.
The Shay! Had forgotten about that engine, maybe for a reason, haha Do you think it will be used again? Or just sit at the Logging Camp gathering rust?

Great Video
I'm convinced that the Shay has a programming issue, that its running as if there's a handbrake set, but there's no physical handbrake to turn off.

The plow though. That DOES have the issue

shays are really good for yards and pulling empty log cars to the logging camp
Shay is nice yard locomotive, nice and slow so you can go do other things and come back to it with outmuch issue.
agreed 😀
By happy coincidence, today marks 155 years since the Golden Spike was driven!
The Shay!

@@AardvarkGames-YT Indeed, same! Would be cool if it was an option when buying it to use the old model
