This is Kacee's first time watching reaction to the movie "Next Friday" (2000). Craig (Ice Cube) bails his friend out of trouble, survives a climatic confrontation with Debo, the neighborhood bully, and ends up with the girl. In "Next Friday" the bully is back as Debo, who spent two years behind bars, is released from prison. Fearing for his sons safety, Craig's father (John Witherspoon) sends his son to live with Uncle Elroy (Don "D.C." Curry). However, Craig soon learns that trouble can find you no matter where you live.

I think Chris Tucker didn’t want to come back as Smokey after the rush hour movies because he didn’t want to be looked at as Smoky the guy that just smokes weed. He turned down a lot of money but, the Friday franchise went on and Chris Tucker also went on and both made great movies
He also got more religious being Christian, I believe, and he didn't want to do no more pothead roles.

This isn’t true. He turned it down for religious reasons stating he didn’t want to cuss or smoke weed on camera anymore.
Taxation is not theft unless you are building your own roads, paving your own sidewalks, paying your own teachers, maintaining your own public services… and also trusting all your neighbors to do the same to a certain standard.
It is, when not all of those funds are going to fix your infrastructure and instead being sent overseas to other countries without you having a say in it.

RIP Justin Pierce (Roach), John Witherspoon, and Tommy Tiny Lister (Debo)
Pierce tragically passed away at age of 25 and his character in Friday franchise was retired/written off he's never mentioned or even explained why he's not the third one. Lister and Witherspoon were suppose to return for the fourth one but wb/new line doesn't want to make it and cube has been trying for years to get rights to franchise since Witherspoon before he passed away he ask cube when are they making a fourth one which never happened due to his passing leaving his character fate unknown and Lister would later pass away it was revealed that Craig and Debo were now cool/made peace with each other in one of the scripts rejected by WB.
On May 7, 2021 Ice Cube opened up about two potential scripts he had written for the film. The first one would have focused on Craig and Day-Day trying to survive in prison after having their Cannabis Dispensary stolen by a Flash mob. They both would have then found themselves in a Rehabilitation hospital run by Smokey. Cube did not give any precise details on the second script although he stated it would have focused around a love story. On October 1, 2022 an episode with Drink Champs Ice Cube revealed Warner Bros who owns the distribution rights of the film series had rejected the scripts citing creative differences and while Tucker previously stated he is not committed to return for the film Ice Cube is still in good relations with Tucker with the latter to reprise his role as Smokey uncertain
Pierce will always be Casper to me. RIP

Next Friday is the first one I saw too, so it has that nostalgia factor for me, I can always watch any the Friday movies haha.

This used to be my least favorite Friday, the third one was my second favorite after the first one. But over years, this one grew on me. Now Next Friday and Friday After Next are about equal to me. 2 and 3 aren’t as “classic” as the first but both equally funny for different reasons. One of the few movies where all the sequels were good. I hope y’all react to 3!

Yeah the last 2 Friday movies were definitely a lot more sillier. I can see why some people would say this was funnier. It was definitely hilarious. I actually liked the 3rd one more than the 2nd one. Nothing beats the 1st one for me though.

I love all but I like the 1st and the 3rd one the most Friday after Next was very enjoyable it’s a holiday film and it’s just chaotic I think the 3rd one is funnier than next Friday but everyone has they preference of these movies again they’re all solid
Actually Chris Tucker had become world famous cuz of Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and was already committed to Rush Hour 2 which would pay him tons more money than another Friday movie so Ice Cube had to find a suitable replacement which wound up being Epps. The clowning of the next door Mexicans is what made Next Friday so popular and successful I don’t think Epps character Day Day was anywhere near as funny as Smokey. Also RIP to ROACH who committed suicide and is no longer with us.
Nice. Nothing will beat the original but this one is pretty good and expands on the cast.

Day day always complaining and being so stressed was so funny, I loved his character almost as much as Smokey. Ice Cube I think used these movies to improve his acting abilities, but I always loved he carried the real streets with it. My favorite track of his will always be "No vaseline".

As a kid next Friday was my favorite but as an adult the original is the best. It was more quotable and more memorable. It also was more gritty and had a strong message. This one was a solid sequel but nothing beats the original Friday.

If you have more of a preference for drama, the first Friday might appeal to you more because it has more serious stakes, with drama erupting all around - up to the point that it’s not even safe to walk down the street. In this one, the worst thing that could happen is the loss of property. To me, you can at least afford to have a lot more fun before things reach their breaking point, making this movie less stressful and a whole lot more fun.

As the Friday franchise went on each new installment felt more and more "mainstream" and I personally think their quality follows theirs numbers; original is the best, this one is the second most memorable, then the Christmas themed movie, and last with the Church centered "drama" Last Friday. At least in my opinion.

Next Friday and Friday After Next are definitely funnier than Friday because Friday isn't REALLY a comedy, it's a slice-of-life hood movie. There's not many "make you laugh" scenes in Friday and any comedy in it is mostly situational (while in Next Friday you have scenes like Day Day getting chased by Baby D or Willie struggling to hold his poop in, which are strictly for comedic purposes). Outside of the characters, Friday feels like it's in a totally different franchise from the other two movies. The original point of Friday was to make a movie about the hood in a more lighthearted manner without a bunch of people dying or going to jail. After that, to be more "commercially" appealing, the other two were made as wacky stoner comedies. Essentially, Next Friday and Friday After Next are gentrified versions of Friday lol.

Growing up all over LA this is def my favorite Friday. BTW Driving from the projects in LA to Rancho Cucamonga in the middle of the day would take 2-3 hours.

@@jasonstrickland9245 thanks the question and curiosity. I personally think a better way would be a voluntary donation of sorts. If people wanted things improved for their neighborhoods, towns, and country then I think people should have the choice of if they donate, how much they want to contribute and to where they want to contribute. And ya, if people chose not to it could cause bad outcomes but at least people had the freedom and personal choice of how to fund the things they want funded which I think would encourage personal accountability and drive communities into a better cooperation to best decide for themselves how to make their lives and communities better. Cuz we see what happens when government decides how much to take and where it goes, it never works for the people. I'd rather have dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery. let the people decide their own fates and not be bottle fed and parented by the government. I hope I made some sense, it's hard to condense my idea into a UA-cam comment haha.

Imagine the government trying to do things with probably 5% of their budget. Almost no one will donate to make up for that money. The US would turn into a 3rd world country.
@@jokerj641 and that would be our own fault. And I say that for anywhere. If the people don't do what's best for the people and country then its collapse is on them. Accountability. If we started teaching a voluntary mutual exchange with a real free market, and cooperation and personal responsibility and accountability early on, then it's possible for enough people to do what's necessary to make a thriving society. But letting the government use force and coercion makes us feel safe but at the expense of our freedom. Put the people in charge instead of the government. I'm not saying for sure it would work. But I'd rather us be responsible for the country and people instead of a government. It's not the government's job to provide anything or take care of anyone. And it never should be. If we as a people and country can't support ourselves then our fall is our own fault. I love America and don't want it to fall. It'd be risky but at least we were free to make the choice

After the first Friday film Chris Tucker started getting offers for more lucrative projects. So Ice Cubes production company couldn't compete with high dollar studios. You would think that he wouldn't even have gotten the chance for top dollar work if it wasn't for Ice Cube. He should have shown some gratitude and stuck with Ice for at least a sequel. But also there was no guarantee at that time that there would be sequels, so what do ya do? It's Hollywood right?
I didn't see it mentioned, but Baby D was portrayed by rapper The Lady of Rage. Never really made it that big, but just wanted to point that out.
Yes, it can take you HOURS to get from one end of LA to the other, ESPECIALLY on a Friday. Not only that, Craig's dad drove from South Central LA, (which can be almost to the 405 Freeway on it's west end, near Culver City down to Inglewood near LAX) to Rancho Cucamonga which is in neighboring San Bernardino County.
Oh yeah, damn, gas prices were so cheap back then, I remember when I first started driving in the mid/late 90's, gas was around $1 per gallon in CA. $10 in a lil Honda CRX was good for almost 2 weeks for me.
