Best making friends as an adult advice I have ever heard: Just show up in the same place on a consistent basis. Thats how you made your school friends, sport friends, work friends etc, and it's how you make friends as an adult. It doesn't matter if that place is a bar, an online community, a sports club, a cafe, a making class, a library- just keep showing up somewhere consistently and the other people who do that too will become your friends.

:O it simply cannot be that easy. This actually gave me hope hahah

    • @Sleepover137
      @Sleepover137 3 роки тому +4

I found that pretty true actually. The friends I have made in the past few years were at work (obviously a place I go every weekday and spend a lot of time with the same people :D) and in an online game where I showed up consistently at the same time for months. In my experience if you're just there and generally show yourself open for conversation people will draw you in and well.

I feel the same way about finding friends, especially having a friend group. I have singular friends from all different parts of my life but not really a group of 3-4 girls to just hang out with or go on holiday with. That always sounds so fun but it’s something I’ve have never done it. Same with concerts or festivals, it’s just better with a group.

What you're saying has really resonated about friends. Most people have found this lockdown hard because they couldn't go and see people and how much their life hadchanged. I found it hard for the opposite reason of how **little** my life had actually changed. It was a literal lockdown and my life was no different and that was and still is something that I've been really struggling to deal with. It made me feel so lonely and like I don't have friends.

For anyone in a city, bumble BFF can be great meeting new people. I moved down to London about 4 years ago, and after a while realised my only friends were housemates or from work. Before the pandemic I used bumble BFF for a little while and met 1 girl who I became really good friends with. Its a lot like dating, some people you just don't click with but you can meet other people exactly like you, wanting to make friends locally. So I really recommend people give it a go especially if you've moved to a new place and don't know many people locally 😊

You could try moving the rosemary to the side of the bed where the slugs are getting in, they don’t like the smell of rosemary and won’t usually travel across it to get to your other herbs/vegetables. I think lavender works as well. I have a big rosemary bush next to my little veg plot and I have had minimal slugs so far :)

Egg shells won’t deter away snails unfortunately. Egg shells are actually a calcium source for snails, and they happily eat away at them which helps promote shell growth! It’s advised to use eggshells as there’s a myth that the sharp edges will cut the foot/body of the snail but this is far from the truth. They create a mucus known as “pedal mucus” which protects them from sharp objects, sun/light rays, helps them to climb vertically and horizontally, and to adhere to surfaces. It also has regenerative properties which is why it’s so desired in the beauty industry. There isn’t much that can be done to prevent snails and slugs from munching away at your crops without killing them 😢

For the slugs and snails: both the eggshells and the copper tape are barrier methods which means they will only work if they are fully surrounding your plant. A couple of scattered eggshell pieces won't do the trick, you would need a thick layer of shell shards all the way around the plant. For the copper tape make sure it is wide enough that they can't easily go over it and also that it goes all the way around your planter. Also that there are not already slugs in the planter when you put it on (and some can be really tiny so check carefully). Hope that helps!

I know exactly how you feel about feeling lonely in London. I moved to South London for work a few years ago and I find it’s a very antisocial place, everyone already has their own stuff going on and never really opens up for new friendships. It must be so hard for you having this channel, being surrounded by like-minded people, but only online, and there’s so much uncertainty in making friendships online! If it wasn’t weird thought it could be kind of cool to have a ‘coffee club’ of likeminded people from here, but it could accidentally seem like a fan club and that’s definitely not my vibe!

    For the friends thing either
    a) pick a place (pub, cafe, library) and turn up there often, talk to people (which I know isn't easy but it works)
    b) do classes at the local community centre/library like cooking or DIY or painting or language or something that lasts a decent amount of time
    c) there's a website (at least in the UK) called 'meetup' specifically designed for this exact problem, you type in where you live and people will have made groups looking for friends to do cool stuff with, there's like gaming ones (board and video), just hanging out ones, outdoorsy ones - I went to one when I was living back home for a while and we played board games, went to the pub, had a lovely picnic all sorts 😊

KP is definitely tough - I've had it since I was a teen - and I've found things that work temporarily but it's like my arms get used to the products and then they just stop working entirely. But I'm way less self-conscious about it than I was when I was younger! So it was good to hear that you've gotten to that point too!

I moved to SK to teach a couple years ago and made a little group of friends, but now we're all moving back to our home countries (back to the UK for me!) And it's hit me that in the UK I have 3 friends and we all live across country from each other 😭

I love whenever you post videos it is always so calming to watch you just live your life. And as far as making friends my husband and I had the same issue we are both almost 30 and most of our college and high school friends are far away or we have just grown apart from. So we had a lack of close friends plus I work from home so no work friends either. And the best thing we ever did is my husband joined a kickball league. And its so much fun for him and I go to support and now almost 2 years later we have made soo many close friends and have such a social life again! It was hard at first because I am an introvert but having an activity that requires a weekly commitment helped so much!

All i have is my boyfriend, who's of course my bestie, and like my family. but i really miss having girl best friends. hopefully eventually we'll be able to make some. if i was in london i'd definitely be your friend, i think we'd get along swimmingly. let us know if you find out any tips for making friends 😅

Hey Lucy, I had really bad KP my whole life but I’ve figured it out. You need those little shower loofa gloves and a thick body moisturiser with urea in it - don’t know if urederm exists in the UK like Aus, but it’s a life saver. I’ve managed to completely get rid of my KP, and I was very bumpy/scaley/red at.

oh girl I so feel you on the exercise thing! I get super red too and I sweat significantly more than other people around, and it always made me super self concious. Like if you actually sweat during any kind of exercise you are less than or whatever and that is just absurd to me, and kinda make me frustrated sometimes

Ohhhhh when you talked about the big tomato energy club, I almost cried! I’m definitely part of it and used to hate it, but 2021 has become the year where I exercise just for joy and strength. Stopped weighing myself last year so the high I get from working out is just how long I can hold an exercise or how many repetitions I can do. 10/10 would recommend ❤️

I’ll be your friend! 😂 I’ve thought exactly the same thing. I’ve just moved to Barnes (SW13) and me and my partner would love local friends. It is difficult as an adult unless you’re into sport I find (I’m not….)
Edited to add: a friend of ours just had a baby and apparently there’s an app that’s like Tinder for new mums! Surely there’s a gap in the market for an app for adults who want to widen their dial-a-picnic circle?

  • @hayleyteasdale7896

Lucy I am totally with you on the exercise thing! I always saw it purely as a thing people do to make their bodies smaller, and even if it was doing something I enjoyed (zumba for example) I couldn't just do it out of enjoyment, but it had to be caveated as 'working out' rather than 'i'm doing zumba because its really bloody fun and I enjoy it'. I recently bought a bike with the money I've saved during lockdown, and honestly I bloody love it! I grin from ear to ear as soon as I get on it! I can't go far as I haven't ridden a bike for about 13 years, but I can't tell you how nice it feels to ENJOY moving my legs.

#BigTomatoEnergy oh i feel ya! i've had very similar feelings surrounding exercise as you have. now thinking of it from a "joyful movement" and wanting my body to feel good perspective rather than a "must do 700 crunches and torture myself in an attempt to make my body look a way that it will likely never look" perspective is just so freeeeeeeeing
