Gunn never said comics or graphic novels would be part of his DC Universe. Comics are under Jim Lee
He did talk a little bit about video games, but never said all video games would be part of the new DCU. Just that they'd try to - as much as possible - use the same actors for the same roles in games based on the new DCU continuity. Which presumably would be dependent on things like budget and contracts and availability.
Hopefully Gunn is referring to a consistent portrayal of the DC characters and basic continuity. For decades, DC properties have varied wildly when it comes to how their characters are presented. With each new iteration, you can tell it’s a completely different take. Superman’s adopted parents can be alive in one version, dead in another, or one parent deceased and the other still living in a third scenario.
Maybe hero origin stories that we've seen before (like Wonder woman or Superman) will instead be told through games. Perhaps it won't be in chronological order but for the more hardcore fans that enjoy lore and stuff. I don't think Gunn would make playing games a requirement to understand the DCU. As said in this video, it would be way more hardcore than the MCU.

I always have the head cannon that when a character mentions a film that has an actor that’s in their film, they just look different. For example, In Capt America Winter Soldier Cap has a list of things he needs to do and one of those things is watch Star Wars. This confirms Star Wars exists in the MCU. Sam Jackson, who played Mace Windu, is also in the MCU. My head cannon is that MCU Star Wars still has Mace Windu, and he is still played by Sam Jackson, but MCU Sam Jackson doesn’t look like real life Sam Jackson. I hope that makes sense.

I’m not too worried as it seems like the graphic novels, games and stuff will be more like world building as in if you want to dig deeper into some characters go ahead and consume that media but hopefully the films are just the main focus.

Can't see everything being as connected as he says. Only legacy and supergirl or Waller and peacemaker seem like they'd connect.

i think anyone who uses their own brain to come up with their own thoughts saw this coming. i still appreciate gunn's hopeful optimism though, imagine having someone who's very cynical about these characters in charge of their movies...

I could be wrong, but I dont think he ever claimed it was all canon. He said the same actors will play their character counterparts in different medium to provide some continuity, but even if it doesnt end up like that.... who cares exactly?
The only thing JG needs to not do is make origin stories for every character. We all know who they are by now. We dont need to see BW parents die in an alleyway again.
Origin stories would make for great games.
Considering the DCU Batman movie is going to have Damian in it, I doubt this is going to be an origin story.
gunn never said all future movies, show, and animation will be dcu. He said there will be else worlds projects. So I don't understand why people say just because the current wonder woman game isn't canon that he is walking it back.

I felt that when it came to the video games that you wouldn’t have to play them to understand the story being told through the movies and shows, but that they add to the universe. Kinda of like the Marvel Entertainment tv shows. Those show fit into the universe but were not (and although now cannon still may not be) required viewing.

I think people worry too much about the video games part. The video game doesn't need to be directly relevant and play a big part in the overall dcu narrative. the video game could be like batman year 1 or something like that. That builds upon the lore and context of the dcu but not directly playing a massive role in the dcu. A good example of this is how to train your dragon 2 and dragons: race to the edge. Where most people who watched how to train your dragon 2 understood the movie however later on there was a prequel series that added some more context.
Gunn should not be DC Studios head. He does not know what he's doing. His JLI tease yesterday is being taken as possibly meaning there won't be a JL film but rather a JLI film with all secondary characters save for Batman. As Gunn changes his previous comments or denies them and then they are dug up the whole thing appears to be a mess. Now that Superman Legacy is clearly turning into a DCU setup film triggering rumors that Superman won't be a big factor in the DCU after Legacy Gunn is forced to address/deny that but, as is being noted, he didn't really deny it. Zaslav made a huge mistake in selecting Gunn and Safran to lead the DCU.
What about the people who like the films and shows and nothing else. We won't have half the story

People have MANY reasons why they hate the Disney Star Wars sequels, or their worst moments.. Mine is, and here we out why this is the worst.. So Luke, Han, Chewie and Leia have been through alot in 3 movies together, Right? Then Han and Leia's son Kylo kills Han, also right in front of His BEST friend and maybe brother to him Chewie... Then once they got back to the Rebels and Leia, JJ had Chewie and Leia walk right pass each other as if they were strangers to have Leia and Rey hug.. Tell me that doesn't upset u too?
I think you and a lot of other people have taken what Gunn has said to literally. What I understood what Gunn was saying was he wanted to try to make all Media platforms, resemble, and kind of tell their story the same way. In other words, if Gal Gadot was wonder, woman in comics, and in everything, wonder woman would look like Gal Gadot. Also, if there was a narrator they would do a similar narration or tell us story a certain similar way. I never took it that you would have to read all the mediums to understand everything. I believe Gunn said you didn’t have to see everything to understand everything now there might be Easter eggs. Or if something did happen in an animated movie it would be very small and they could probably tell you in a flashback or a quick explanation or work in. But I think a lot of people took what James Gunn said to literal and didn’t understand it. Also, I think James Gunn didn’t think about the time it takes video games to be made so your Batman suit or Bruce Wayne, looking like Ben Affleck isn’t going to happen. It may catch up in six years and the way they tell their stories, but I don’t think video games are going to happen right away.

Sorry but no. First off, the Wonder Woman game is most likely not connected to the DCU. Second, James has already said that the universe will feel more like the Star Wars timeline, meaning a video games could be set before the events of a film to fill in story gaps. For example, maybe a Superman game that gives him a story between his film and supergirl. It’s not refuted viewing but rather enhances your experience. James has already said that these stories need to stand in there own so I’m not really worried about it

I don't care what Gunn does, but to me none of it will be canon. Only what I want to be canon will stay canon and trust me, nothing from his universe will ever be canon.
If James Gunn is walking back on this whole idea of his about comics, graphic novels and even video games are gonna be all connected to this chapter 1 gods and monsters idea then that should tell you that he is in over his head. Or the reason why he’s seeing this now is because of what happened with suicide squad kill the justice league and he saw a whole lot of the negative comments about this game and that everyone is demanding refunds for this piece of trash that have ruined the legendary Kevin Conroy (RIP) in such a bad way.
The DCU is a joke. Gunn is a figurehead meant to get better PR for WB executives.
Everything is cannon Zack Snyder versus Canon just bring it back as an elseworld project but it'll be a separate cinematic universe coexisting with the DCU and if the dcu or Superman legacy fails at the box office then abruptly cancel the universe in all the dcu movies and bring back Snyder verse as the main universe and also cancel the Matt Reeves batverse as well and also joker James Gunn is too ambitious video games are different and take a long time to make at least Zack Snyder verse is not that ambitious It's a cut clean story
