I think a good explanation on why they have a vow of silence is because they can see the emperor's true form so when they first formed they had to take the vow and then it just became a tradition
But what if his true form is something... Well, most are horrified, but I guess if anyone gonna be cool with a horrific emperor to stomp a horrific galaxy into compliance, it'd be our friendly galaxy-hood zealot women.
They see him as a regular man, one of the Heresy books (I forget which one) mentions it
@@Amknownas_743great_explainer one of the books described how the Emperor as sitting on the golden to a sister of silence. They said he just looked like a normal good looking tan dude with a timeless quality to his face but which had been twisted by pain and tiredness from sitting on the throne into something older looking.
I liked how Will Wright did their history and explained in very broad terms how they were culled but convents still survived just mostly hidden and imagine if nulls were found as kids the black fleet would use them and train them to a point to help in capturing psykers for the throne.
Does anyone know 'Battle Sign' for "F**k Yeah this will be awesome" ?
You can not run, You can not hide The Black Ships are coming ..... abhor the witch!
You throw up the horns 🤘
"We are warriors and woe to those we oppose, the Emperor's mark is on our brow, all who deal with the Warp must beware, *His* Judgement"
-- Some fine ass Sister of Silence uwu
Ok, so, the Silent Sisterhood does not have a clear beginning, they most likely were gathered when the custodian guard was created, they were there at the council of Nikea however, and it is stated that they were already serving along the custodes.
Their main purpose was to act in support of the custodian guard, for a simple reason, a custodian cannot kill a demon, add a blank in the mix and then he can. Same with powerful psykers.
During the Horus Heresy, they also fought in the and at the entrance of the web-way.
They did not disappear, after HH, they were just greatly reduced in numbers, like everybody else at the siege of Terra, they were no longer needed by the custodians, because they decided to lock themselves up in the Imperial Sanctum, where the emperor would act as their psychic shield.
In addition, they had a very important task to fulfill after the HH, and that is to run the black ships, Adeptus Telepathica coordinates the black ships, they do not run the black ships, you need blanks to contain them psikers. That is a galactic scale task, for individuals that are very hard to find (blanks) hunting for a bit less rare individuals (psykers), and I`m sure you can appreciate that by the nature of the task they can`t all sail them ships, someone has to hunt.
That’s not the lore, the high lords disbanded and persecuted them so they fled
Custodes can and have killed demons. Not the True Death, but they can easily destroy their physical forms and send them back to the warp.
@@ABorderPrince Sheesh... It`s almost normal for 40k to pump out contradicting stuff... "it`s part of the lore"
Watchers of the Throne book 1:
"It truly amazes me now, thinking back, knowing more than I did, that the
Imperium’s grasp on us had been let slip so completely. We held within our
hands the kernel of salvation, and we were forgotten.
To be sure, we had always served, here and there - they still had to garrison
their Black Ships, and there were inquisitors who understood our value - but in
essence they had let us wither."
@@shloopaboopa7718 Yes, they can, but it`s not easy, and some demons would take a great tool on them too, not everyone is on Valdor`s level. Should have been more specific and add a when in there, "when a custode can`t kill a demon..."*
One of my favorite 40k factions, stoked for this one.
Same here. Kriegers and Nuns for da win😅
I love that you covered Sisters of Silence, they’re easily one of my favorite factions after reading the Watchers of Terra novels (wish they made more of those, as the main sister and the Custodes were terrific characters)
Thank you , Prince of the Border .
🐺
Learned a ton about them in the watchers of the throne series and their love/hate relationship with the custodes in the 41st millennium was cool to see in the friendship of Alliyah and Valerian. Is kinda sad that the most powerful human weapons of the imperium are almost automatons. Curious what a child of a SOS and Custodian would be like.
*makes a sign of the imperial aquila with my hands and raises it above my head*
It's mentioned in "Throne of Light" by Guy Haley that the only order of SoS that didn't disband were the ones crewing the Black Ships. There are also mentions of Sisters of battle guarding the psyker tithe (main source I can think of this is in James Swallows "Faith and Fire"). It's been a while since I read them, but I think that when they re-discover them in "The Beast Arises" series they say that they were persecuted by the Echlissiarchy. So they disappeared twice in the lore, once after the Heresy and a second time after the War of the beast.
Love your videos btw.
Wish there was more sisters of silence stuff available
Thinking the custodes letting the sisters of silence be destroyed being odd. remember goge vandire who did as much damage to the imperium as horus was literally a hop and skip across the street for them and yet they did nothing
That was thousands of years later. I do think it’s odd, they were partnered with this sisters and they worked together on the daily and yet they just were like “I guess they all gone now, o well” is odd yes
@@ABorderPrince it seems odd if you take it literally but if they are so repulsive to people they're bound to Drift off
That was the dark era for custodes too. Valdor disappeared, the ten thousand now became like a thousand, their master became a living corpse.
New army here at 12 a boarder Prince and painting takes me back to the only war hammer I had and they were metal lol.
You’ve read the watcher of the throne books so you know his explanation is a dichotomy: a minority remained with the adeptus Astra telepathica, the majority were left out in the dark. The organisation was systematically reduced through covert actions by notably amongst others the church
Your videos are amazing . keep up the good work cant wait for more . would love for more Lore or stories about the Emperor or the sigillite
They were in the art books of the original heresy run that GW put out all those years ago.
Visions of heresy volume 1 page 7 is the first picture of them. Printed in 2004.
Edit to find the exact location and book
Never be afraid to bestow your musings upon us lord Prince, especially where the lore is concerned.
For the glory of the Imperium!
I love the little rant at the end it is nice to hear others thoughts on when they forget/change their own lore, great video as always.
So...A Noise Marine walked into a bar...
I always thought they were called Sisters of Science now i am like, woah no way.
Loving all the new stuff, keep it up!
When can we get "I'm just ranting now" t shirts?
Good to see you doing some faction lore videos
I first read about the SOS in the fifth book of the Horus Hersey series: Flight if the Eisenstein. They fought alongside the Death Guard at the beginning of the battle and I was like “wow, a sisterhood of Pariahs, that’s a good way to deal with any Pysker threats.”
Best WH40K channel !
I like what Chris wray did to sort of explain why the sisters disappeared but still manned the black ships and it can be hard to miss but a few times in the watchers of the throne novels its mentioned that the sisters who manned the ships were kind of different from the others and weren't really connected to the other sisters, and spoilers but when Alliyeah (however you spell it) was looking for allies to disobey the custodians and go to voorlees with Valerian she and the other sister who helped her find volunteers (forget her name) specifically avoided trying to recruit sisters who manned black ships for their connection and loyalty to the rest of the imperium and its noted that they wore a unique type of black armor (or some other kind of signifier I forget) and that they acted and were seemingly trained differently from how the convent raised sisters were, and so this I think was a way to show that while the sisterhood was destroyed the sisters who were apart of the Astra Telepathica and manned the black ships were left alone or maybe even protected so they could continue tithing psykers
Thanks for that.
Great video and lore on the Sisters of Silence such a cool and under utilized force in the novels.
Great content mate 👍🏻
20:46 Easy "peasey," the telepathica knew where to find the sisters of silence, but didn't tell anyone else. Mysteries of the black ships, and all that.
The pariah device was very much a Star Trek move. How does a Apple Watch make it where it seems like you have a soul.
love your channel
I think you might be wrong about when the sisters of silence appeared. Did Nathaniel Gero serve with some I like the fourth book when they introduced him as a member of the death guard?
this was a great rant-thoughts-ending
One thing I find really interesting about them is because powers have no effect on them, they probably see the Emperor as he actually is.
The sisters of silence were around in the flight of the eisenstein (book 4),but yea the vow of silence is especially pointless when they are shown to use a form of sign language and morus code-like tapping to communicate. I guess at the end of the day the writers just thought sisters of silence sounded like a cool name for a new female fraction.
The pariah's were in eisenhorn and ravenor
Good shit man
I call the chaos gods, warp parasites
I've always wondered how the Emperor, the most powerful psyker, could tolerate being surrounded by them.
Good job 👍
"People won't pay for someone disgusting on a spiritual level"
Stop kinkshaming, ABP lol
😜
Nice vid
Great content! No background music was a good choice 👍
**Spoiler Warning**
I have only read first book of watchers of the throne series. I remember there was 2 distinctive groups (factions?) in the anathema psykana. One had more close relationship with imperium's power structure and they followed the top brass of imperium to the letter. Others were small bands of sisters that were outside the imperium's purview. They were less likely to follow the dictates of the high lord and didn't have any resources at their disposal . As for Sister's absence throughout all this time could be explained by - Imperium didn't want to lose their Sisters as they were rarest of resources but they also didn't know/trust where all the splinter groups of sisters were.
Basically the black ship wardens, which are a certain organization in the sisters, under the Adeptus astra telepathica, stayed in their role and were not cast out. Just more slowly phased out for regular human crews. The military arm, which was chamber militant of the order was deemed to hard to control and cast out in superstition.
I thought the lore was the following.
There are "blanks" who have no souls. Blanks exist as a "void" or "hole" in the warp and everyone is uncomfortable being around them, even if they don't know why.
The Sisters of Silence (and others like them) possess an "inverted" soul that actively opposes the very existence of warp energy, draining it away.
You could say that "Blanks" are like a void in the space where nothing warp-ish can exist, while the other ones are more like a black hole, tearing warp juice away from its source entity.
Bequin was a only a "blank" I thought.
Nah no distinction a pariah is just soulless
@@ABorderPrince Nope, there is a clear difference between a pariah and a blank.
A blank creates a sort of dampening field, the potency depends on the individual. These are generally unpleasant to average human and painful to psikers and demons but generally bearable especially by more potent psykers and demons, can cut off tyranid communications.
In relation to the warp, a psyker is ++, having a larger than average soul (shinier), the average human is +, a blank is = or +-
A Pariah on the other hand is a rarer variant of a blank, they also lack a soul but they are - - (minus minus) in the warp, described as seen by a demon precisely like a black hole or abys where a soul should be. These give off a sense of dread and otherness to humans, make psyker heads go boom and act like a sewage blender for demons, it can get clogged/overwhelmed but generally a scary experience.
@@frosty19901 no your just making that up there is no distinction you just wish there was because the lore is a mess
@@ABorderPrince Damn right the lore is a mess. Did some digging around and yes, you are most likely right about blanks and pariahs, and the differences between what they can do can only be attributed to author liberties so far.
Have you done work for Black Library? I've listened to a lot of Warhammer books on audible and several of your voices sound way too familiar to mark it down as coincidence.
Ty
so bang so good
1 Hour vids plz for the sleep depraved ...If you could manage
They should be working with GK rather than Custodes
Didn't all the sister that helped him fight Magnus on Luna die?
mmm what if the "Official" sisters of silence organization was disbanded but the custodies and some others took them aside and repurposed them to work on the black ships? and getting this message out to every group wasn't feasible, likely some infighting among humanity
That could work but that’s literally not what happened. They try and have it both ways without explanation
👍
Are they not in the old art?
Yeah and no
Ya, retconing out the sisters for a period... don't work that well.
Epilogue. Sounds like an Alpharius conspiracy
🔥🎸🔥
Yeah buddy
Sisters cool, but a little odd. Middle, middle, middle-comment for the algorithm complete!

First
Sound like really perfect women to me. That oath of silence eliminates all competition in my book
my head canon is that the sisters hold the vow of silence due to their knowledge of enuncia which is possibly the language and source of power of the old ones . the emperor has them keep this vow because as nulls he doenst have to worry about chaos corrupted enuncia user. coincidentally nulls and perpetuals are the ONLY ones that can use this power. it made me wonder if the unSPEAKABLE king that the blanks that served him was also a users of enuncia i couldnt imagine the emperor being worried about some king JUST because hes a null
That’s not true anyone can use ennuncia. And blanks can be corrupted by chaos
@@ABorderPrince right! i meant they're the only ones that can use it SAFELY since nulls dont seem to suffer enuncia's recoil like most and yeah true enough warp juice can burn out a blank too.
👍
