1:11 Here we see the traditional "Wave Motion" effect that is standard with most Japanese armaments, which fires an extremely powerful beam forward from the weapon, capable of inducing extreme collateral damage, in this case, taking out the entire side of the building that the rifleman's target dared to cower behind.
Great video like usual. However the Japanese removing the dust covers from the weapon is a myth. It stems from US Marines taking the weapons back as trophies in WW2. The Navy would take the bolt out of the weapon so they didn't have more live weapons floating around and the dust covers would fall off of the bolt when not in the weapon. The Japanese would never ditch the dust covers because the weapon was a tribute to their devotion to the Emperor and they wanted to keep them in prestige condition.(I'm not trying to be toxic just thought you would want to know)

Dude Lmao the SMLE covers most of the Martini's sweetspot, + more. So does the Arisaka. Also, the SMLE has 10 bullets in the mag, compared to the Martini's 1 bullet - so the Martini is sluggish compared to the SMLE, and when using infantry rifles, that's a downside for the Martini. Gotta admit the Martini has the best firing sound though.

Just stumbled across your channel. Great job, this is exactly the information I was looking for regarding this gun. Very in-depth review. Thank you. I haven’t found anyone else that shows us all the little stats.
funny thing about this gun: its not actually Type "Thirty Eight" its actually type "Three Eight" ("San Hatchi Shiki" instead of "Sanju Hatchi Shiki")even tho its meant to be thirty eight since of the emeperor year system.
I think this is the best all-around rifle in the scout class, I’m loving it for a slightly more run and gun “aggressive” style in TDM games, since that’s all I play and make gameplay commentary vids on. Normally I’d grab the SMLE and post up somewhere but with this thing I can run around as if I have something like the RSC for the medic class. This shit is an addictive gun once you get used to it. I find I just use it on every single TDM map. You do have to be good and fast with transitioning to your side arm though. I guess the next update will have a scoped version, not sure I’ll like that or not. Iron sights seem to fit for this “sweet spot” range.
Would recommend watching C&Rsenal's video on the Type 38. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that the Japanese soldiers got rid of their bolt covers. For them, the rifle was a tool that was to be respected and cared for. Plus, removing the cover could get them in trouble.
Another good and informative video Kris, still enjoying them. Also I wanted to know, which did you prefer for the new scout rifles from Turning Tides, the Carcano or the Arisaka? Personally, I prefer the Carcano. Also second and last question, what's your settings for your mini map?
I like them both for different reasons, though the Arisaka is one of my favourite rifles in the game for its versatility. I made a video a while ago on my best settings (including map size) I suggest you check that out 👍
I love how this gun has some similar elements from my two favourite rifles in the game (smle mkiii and the martini henry) definitely worth that painful unlock

Gotta remember that a heavier rifle combats recoil. A larger and heavier rifle will take that mild 6.5 arisaka round and reduce the recoil even further.
This article on modern firearms said a lot of soldiers removed the bolt cover due to the rattling noise: modernfirearms.net/en/military-rifles/bolt-action-rifles/japan-bolt-action-rifles/arisaka-38-i-99-eng/
It says most Japanese troops discarded them because it made too much noise when cycling the bolt. Which is ridiculous because combat makes too much noise, and with all that noise, you're really not going to hear a dust cover. I firmly believe the common Japanese soldier would not have discarded his dust cover.
OsamaIs MyMama Well that is wrong. Although it uses Mauset action, if you push the clip with the bolt, it won't feed a round in the chamber. Japanese soldiers were trained to remove the clip and close the bolt then. There are plenty of videos showing this issue. Mausers never had that problem, you can slam the bolt while the clip was there and you are good to go.
Many rifles are not able to be operated with a stripper clip inserted as a safety feature. It varies depending on which rifle. However, I do appreciate the last bullet reload throwing away the last round to load another clip animation.

Japan: "Lets give our troops the longest, heaviest bolt action rifle of any military in the world, but use a light recoil 6.5x50mm round to completely make the extra weight pointless."
Arisaka was the ak47 of ww1 doesn't matter who you are, if you're a fighter you'll probably be using it. Though it's pretty ironic the Japanese then brought Carcanos to replace their Arisakas they sold, probably a much worse weapon.
Could you please give us a recommended loadout at the end of each video? I’d really like to know what you use with each weapon you review. Love your videos though!
*Sees 6.5x50 as shown in the video* Oh look, a war crime. The bullet shown seems to be a soft tip hunting round, it is a war crime to use in combat. Not really a problem with the video, just me nit picking.
I meant the photograph Kris used in the video of the cartridge when looking at the irl stats of the rifle. The picture used showed a jacketed soft tip, in game they are just solid lead projectiles. A solid lead bullet will expand, but it is not necessarily meant for expansion. A jacketed lead tipped bullet is *intended* for expansion in a target, which is indeed a war crime. -Hague Convention of 1899 (IV,3) "The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions." And here is the video time stamp 0:36 Hope this clears things up.
I don't think they really rattled and made that much noise in the actual war. That is just a myth created from post ww2 guys taking the dust covers off them for various reasons. (Some people tried to use create counterfeit Nazi rifles. I think they sometimes used Japanese rifles as parts to make them. The rifle does share a lot of similarities with the various mausers. (There was one mauser that had a dust cover too. The Japanese inventor improved the concept by letting the dust cover move with the bolt. The previous dust cover mauser model required you to move the dust cover out of the way so you can eject the bullets while firing)) When the dust cover is never removed it is very quite. It is until you have to remove the dust cover and put it back on is when it begins to rattle. I think this leads to the next myth. The Japanese soldiers never removed the dust covers. They left them on. People just think that because again.. so many Japanese ww2 rifles were messed around with where they rattled. That myth was created as a surmise by the post ww2 collectors explaining they were seeing so many loud rattling rifles.
Japanese troops did not discard their dust covers. The dust cover has been on the Arisaka series of rifles since 1905; it predates World War 1. Yet all the myths and theories about Japanese soldiers discarding them seem to only take place during World War 2, in the mid-late 1940's, the Pacific Theater, Between the Japanese and Americans. No one ever seems to say, "during World War 1, most Japanese troops discarded their dust covers." No one has ever said, "during the Second Sino-Japanese War, most Japanese troops discarded their dust covers." I've never heard any of that; it's always: World War 2, Pacific Theater, battling the US troops. Am I the only here who finds that just a bit suspicious?
Love the video, but you are wrong about the dust cover. It was apart of the weapon thus property of the Emperor, they wouldnt want to remove to avoid disrespecting the Emperor. It wouldn't have been loud either, the only time it rattles is when you cycle the bolt which is already loud. If youre wondering why a lot of copies dont have it, ethier US servicemen removed it due to the light rattling or they didnt understand its uses fully and captured models used by Indonesia and China lost them over time/heavy use.
Michael Kassner Actually a lot of the dust covers where lost because when disassembling the bolt it is incredibly difficult to put the cover back on properly during a fight so a lot of soldiers basically said screw it
I've heard a lot of soldiers removed the dust covers regardless, as the rattling noise would've compromised their position. Maybe this was late on (perhaps in WW2) though it's common to find type 38 without covers now for this reason
Yeah I've read up on this gun from a few sources, quite a lot mention the removal of the bolt cover. (even the type 38's codex entry on bf1 talks about it)
Ross Jones Watch the firing segment for the weapon on C R arsenal video on it, it adds very little extra noise to the action and it didn't rattle as much as some might think.
OsamaIs MyMama I doubt it, if i remember correctly the disassembly wasnt massively complex and near simple as you can get. C R arsenal has a video on the weapon, itll show the disassembly process

Love. This. Rifle.
Watching these rifle review makes me want to get the game, but still, sad to see how the differences between rifles in game play is on a rather handicapped system obviously to improve game play.
This rifle has some of the best skins.
When you ate rice in ww1
Sorry but that was a very bad joke
They Must Include The Ross Rifle, The Huot Automatic Isn't Enough
UA-cam Channel Of Arstotzka The Ross is coming with Apocalypse. They released an update for the CTE and the Ross is one of the new featured weapons in the dlc
The soldiers never threw away the dust covers. That's a myth
I didn't really mean to unlock the Type 38 Arisaka, I unlocked it by accident in the process of getting the Carcano M91 😂
I wish there was a video of all unqiue weapons you have to pick up from dead people to get access to. Some are apparently from pre ordering the game. I would like to see every weapon they have in the files
Y the games stats are so screwed up? It says It has 62rpm(as the m95) while It is way slower
Oh no I’m in love with the arisaka wrap
If you want multikills, I got them playing rush and calling artillery strikes constantly.
Fun fact: An Arisaka Type 38 equipped with a bayonet stands higher than the average Japanese soldier at the time
i just like the end of the bolt *shrugs*
Do you honestly believe that the dust cover would make more noise than explosions, screaming, and all the other loud noises going on during war?
Gret man love your vids kris!
Not to mention it has some of the best skins in the entire game
Japan: "Lets give our troops the longest, heaviest bolt action rifle of any military in the world, but use a light recoil 6.5x50mm round to completely make the extra weight pointless."
Arisaka was the ak47 of ww1 doesn't matter who you are, if you're a fighter you'll probably be using it.
Though it's pretty ironic the Japanese then brought Carcanos to replace their Arisakas they sold, probably a much worse weapon.
TENNOHEIKA BANZAI!!!!!!!!!
BANZAAIIII
Very good video !!!!
You are really under rated
Could you please give us a recommended loadout at the end of each video? I’d really like to know what you use with each weapon you review. Love your videos though!
This gun so far is my favorite sniper rifle in the game.
You should do a review on the mounted machine guns located on the maps
Da, good rifle. My soldiers loved it.
When I was getting the 3 multi kills I use the m1903 experimental and ripped through everyone
Poor guy at 8:16. But this is definitely one of my favorite guns in 2021.
I've spent 3days to unlock this bloody gun.
Even if i hate the scout class (Can’t fucking aim bolt actions with the PS4 controller...) i still love this rifle for some reason.
BlapBlop Try Kontrol Freeks plus using 0% Dead Stick Zone in the settings. Your aim will be 800 million times better.
*Sees 6.5x50 as shown in the video* Oh look, a war crime.
The bullet shown seems to be a soft tip hunting round, it is a war crime to use in combat. Not really a problem with the video, just me nit picking.
KristophShmit you mean the gun in the game uses hunting ammunition?
KristophShmit Notice how Gas, Flamethrowers, and shooting paratroopers is also in the game so...
-Hague Convention of 1899 (IV,3) "The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions."
And here is the video time stamp 0:36
Hope this clears things up.
Kai Flood Shooting paratroopers isn't a warcrime
yes
I used to love this gun. It was my favorite rifle
1:12 what ammo you shooting there son
5:38... dude. Is “Fraggles” okay?
“Ore ga FUJIMI NO SUGIMOTO DA!!!”
-Saichi Sugimoto
The only issue i have with the gun is the fact you cant rechamber while scoped
you hate all bolt action rifles then. you like straight pull then. you only use G95 and ROSS MK3
I got a legendary skin for most dlc guns need this one just unlocked the gun today
Yo, I got this rifle by getting into airship and having planes running into me... lol
What does the legendary skin "Mari" stand for???
Andy Yang could be the tribesmen that volunteered to serve along side the anzacs the Maori I believed its what they call them selves
There sure is a lot of good scout rifles now aren't there!!!
How is it only 57 rpm. It says 62 rpm on PlayStation 4 just used the rifle today
Very nice
We need a Type 38 Sniper
there was no type 38 sniper until 1937, so we won't be seeing it in bf1
Austin Weiß its called the type 38 arisaka in-game
yeah but it came out in 1905
三十八式歩兵銃、万歳!着剣せよ!
ゆうひ 三八大盖
You forgot to mention the built in aimbot. For some reason this is the only infantry rifle I consistently get ridiculous headshots with lol
favorite load out
This Weapon Is Fun To Use, Kris
It sure is
Can You Do The M1917 Next?
3 multi kills as a Scout seems like a kick in the nuts from Dice ... Not cool man , not cool . As I bought the game , I bought the Premium Pass and the only way to play with the new weapons is to complete challenges is pretty fucking frustrating . I dislike Dice for this , but hey , it's their game , they took my $ and probably don't give a shit about my feelings . And yes Kris , that's how the world goes . I like your reviews , keep it up
Paul Nicolae I got this from getting in an airship and having plebs in attack planes crash into me...
Still , not cool . Same for the 'destroy 2 airplanes with LMG's' ... I mean , what the fuck ??
