I would rather get the 15" 2019 model. (Not the 16", 15". They sold it for a few months). You can get one maxed out in near perfect condition for 1K USD. CPU increases from 8th to 9th gen and cooling is also improved. (You also get an extra year of OS updates too!)

These are substantially cheaper on eBay (I just inherited and sold one there myself.. though I think it was not quite the same model though still 2018.. there must have been a refresh that year), although buying this machine is just putting yourself on the upgrade treadmill. I got an M2 Macbook Pro around the same time and it makes the 2018 pro model seem like an old 'Air' model in comparison. I would strongly recommend a slightly more expensive used M1 Macbook Air over this 6 year old Pro model from what might be one of the worst periods of Apple hardware (the terrible and surprisingly low-res touch bar, the keyboard that was designed for slimness rather than typing, mediocre screen by Apple standards, ageing battery, no mag safe on the one I sold, and at the very end of its software support).

I got the 15 inch 2019 mbp about 2 months ago, I was very impressed with the sound quality, the speakers sound amazing, the screen looks awesome (i only had cheap windows laptops before) , the touchbar is pretty fun but i wish it would keep the function keys, works pretty fast, and for $520 im happy with it. Would recommend to someone that has a similar budget, (this laptop was once $2k-$3k and its definitely not worth that, however under $700, still very good agaisnt any new laptop in this price range.

@@jjdelalina7128 microsoft office works fine on it, if u find a good deal u can go for it, the next mac os version wont be support, it can only go up to Sonoma, however when sonoma will stop receiving updates, u can just install windows on bootcamp, one thing to keep in mind is that it runs quite hot if u watch youtube videos, and the fans get loud now in the summer, however the screen is nice for watching movies and the sound is great. really depends on the deal u can get, i.. honestly for $600 you can get. an almost new macbook air m1, and it will do web browing and office work quite amazing, and it will be cool and fanless, so maybe go for that.
Is it across the whole bottom of the display? The 2017-2018 era MacBook pros were known for having short display cables that would give this stage light effect. It’s not burn in, but still a display defect.

I would say if you have a lot of apps open at once the 16Gb of ram in the m1 MacBook Air is really nice. I have one with 16Gb of ram and the only time it runs slow is if there’s a software glitch.
I'm a 3rd year uni student and want to buy this 15" for coding and daily usage. I make ads in after effects (10-15 sec) Max in 1080p. Will it give decent battery backup? No windows laptop in this range is giving me good battery backup. There is one MBP available for 550$
It should realistically get you 7-8hrs of battery life if the battery health is at or above 85%. If battery is important to you I would recommend saving for a used m2 15” MacBook Air. They are about $900.

Definitely. Obviously not everything of the modern ones, but that will still be great for almost everything, especially media and daily browser tasks, for a loooooonnng time.
Got a 16 inch 2019 macbook pro with an i9 (the base 2.3 ghz option) and a 1tb ssd and 32gb of ram, it will probably last me one more OS upgrade and it was a good deal at 800€ in very good condition
If you bought it just now at that price you could’ve upgraded a bit more to the 2020 or just barely 2021, it would have been a bit better but since it would have Apple silicon

@@ashwellxolisile1054 no not at all tbh I mostly do programming and stuff for my Uni on it plus I use an app that’s called Turbo Boost Switcher which lets me choose how the i9 is performing and boosting so I can save more battery life. Until now working with it has been awesome and I can’t imagine upgrading for another 2/3 years at least.
I would say it would be good for about 3-4 years and then I would sell it and upgrade. Just make sure the battery health on it is above 90%. If you plan on taking it to college I would just buy a new m1 MacBook Air even if it’s a lot more. The battery life is going to be much better and last you a long time.
no man, it has the Touch Bar. You want the actual function keys. If you do not mind having no psychical function keys, yes. But you will need more ram. If you are coding you should be looking at the m chips. 13 inch air with the m1 out performs fully maxed 15inch 2018.

Laptop over heats easily, but I really do like the keyboard and the Touch Bar. Over all, it still kicks ass. Video editing at 4k no problem, hell, I even play games. Company of Heroes 2 and Isonszo

It was smooth when I was doing my 1080p editing. It could depend on the specs of the computer you’re getting. You can lookup your video editing software and the recommended specs on google. Either way with a 2018 MacBook Pro you should be fine.
Editing 1080 is no problem. Your main issue is will apple support Final Cut Pro or iMovie on it. If you had this machine a few years ago and had an older video editing version, then it will work. But right now, I’m not sure if the newest versions support it. You will have to check

You got a backlight issue with your screen just go to apple and by law they change your entire screen for free as they've done this to me cuz the 2017/18 got a screen recall + tell them to replace you keyboard keys for free as there was a recall for it too Done both for my 2017 laptop for free under the consumer law ( 6 years from purchase)

If your a heavy video editor I don't exactly know just because I have basic video editing skills, but for 1080p its going to be just fine. If you can afford a M1 Macbook Air or pro with 16gb of ram that would be the way to go just to be safe. As for getting premiere pro for free or as a one time payment I don't unfortunately know.

I would highly advise to avoid this laptop, I had the 2018 Pro 15in (1TB 32GB RAM 3.2GHz i9) and it suffers from well documented cooling issues. Grab an M series MacBook instead, even a mid-range M series MacBook Air will outperform the 2018 Pro.

If you’re doing a heavier task like gaming you might be cutting it close to 4 hrs, but with normal web browsing probably up to about 8-9hrs.
