I now bought a M4 Max. The biggest difference is if you want your CPU to be 10% used in idle or 5%. I only upgraded because I want to connect 3 monitors - and maybe because I like new tech..
I also got this in late 2024. I would have waited for the imminent M4 version but I needed one for the holidays and a vacation/flights to and from Japan in early Jan. I've been very happy with it. I upped the RAM to 24GB though and storage to 2TB. I still have an M1 Studio hooked up to a pro display XDR in my office as my main productivity machine.
I just replaced a working 2020 13" M1 Air 8/256 with a 2024 15" M3 Air 16/256. I did it because I wanted to not because I needed to, though I was getting annoying with the memory situation. I considered waiting until the M4s this Spring but the combination of the 'Black Friday' deals and the fact that I don't anticipate anything new on the M4 Air beyond the chip (which is not and has not been an issue for the Air since the M1's release). The screen is obviously a big improvement, more real estate and noticeably brighter at the same relative brightness settings. The speakers are the biggest improvement. The memory bottleneck I'd see with a lot of tabs open is gone, this is the only real performance difference I notice. The build quality and form factor is about the same. Which is to say the form factor is noticeably different but not necessarily better IMO. Build quality is the same, which is to say amazing. So was it worth $1130 after tax? No it was not but I am happy with the purchase, it is nice to have something new to work on. The 2020 M1 Air holds up remarkably well today and anyone in the market for an Air might be best served by getting one of those. I see them for $450ish used and $5-600 new.
Same question for me: wait or buy as price really decreased for 15" M3 16GB. I'm surprised you noticed improvement on speakers as I found quality was already great on M1 air. I'm wondering if multi screen will be possible on next M4 air (as it is now on macbook pro M4), which could be a reason to wait... Other than that, seems like it could cover all my need for an upgrade: memory, screen size (optionnaly sound, GPU )
I have a Macbook Pro 2014 and a iPhone 12 mini. I can either get a new phone or a new computer. For now, I am more inclined towards getting a new macbook. Even though my 2014 macbook works quite alright but I feel it is high time that I upgrade. I was planning to get the 15" M3 Macbook air but now since M4 is around the corner so I am still wondering whether to wait or get the M3 one. Since, I am in Pakistan so I rarely get good deals here and have to buy it on full price.

After looking at the M4 MacBook Pro, and the new iMac M4, I just came from best buy where I bought a M3 MacBook air with 16GB RAM, a 512GB Hard Drive, and an extended warranty. The price I paid was $1234.00 dollars, including California tax is was around $1338.00. I'm thrilled with my purchase and while I could wait for the M4 MacBook air, I'm confident this 15" screen M3 will suit me just fine. Phenomenal review. My dad has been barely making it by with a 2014 MacBook Air, 8 gb ram and 256 gb ssd. Just got him an M3 13in MacBook Air 16 gb ram 256 ssd during the Black Friday deal on Amazon. After this video I'm confident that I made a good purchase for his needs of video conferencing and recording audio/editing videos.
@ I think it depends what you want to use it for, and how many tasks you’re performing at once. If you want to do heavy video editing or music creation, then I would go with a MacBook Pro. But day-to-day stuff is perfect and also it is very light (weight wise) and has a long battery life. My dad loves the portability and battery life of the laptop. He uses it for zoom calls and watching videos no problem
@ i have seen other reviewers testing out being able to edit and record video/audio. It can pull its weight. It’s not on the exact same level as a Pro but it can give you a run for your money
I upgraded from M1 Air to M3 Air, because they had nice Black Friday discounts. Plus 5 year warranty without any age deduction. It is very easy to sell after 3-4 years of use when there’s still warranty. Plus, M3 is more than I need. Very capable machine.
I knew the reason, how he broke the MacBook Pro M1 was because of overprotection; I think he used a keyboard silicone skin after closing or opening the lid, keeping inside it caused. Even I were faced with the same issue with the M1 Air 13.3-inch base model, I brought it in June 2021, and within the month, I got a double tint on the screen due to the silicone skin. A little pressure on the screen, and it happened, and I just threw away the silicone skin with several stabs on it, but till now it works wonderfully. I gave it to my little brother for a personal laptop, and I purchased the M3 Air with 16 GB RAM, 512 SSD, and 13.6 inches.
I just bought one on sale, and I love it. I got the 15-inch 16 GB and 512 GB SSD. I chose Midnight. I have since gotten a hub, a keyboard cover, a protective sleeve, and Microsoft Office for Home (on sale).
The M4 MacBook Air is right around the corner. I'm replying to you with an M1 Air. I'm getting an M4 iMac or an M4 Mac Mini, later this month! Thanks for the video!
You didn’t mention that it can also drive 2 external screens when the Air M3 lid is closed. To me that’s a real advantage. Having said that my 2021 M1 16/512 still runs very well and has immense battery life. I also like its compact size and weight. The fans only come in when rendering films.
I love my MacBook 13 inch M3 air, I have the 24gig 512 variant and I mostly play wow on it and it runs it really good, I used it on 2 monitors when Im home and when I travel a good bit I can play on the go too, I do use cross over as well for things like TF2, its a really good laptop I hope to have it for a good while and might upgrade in a few years but maybe not. Hi Leo, The MBA M4 will be released next spring. It will most certainly be at the price of the MBA M3 on sale today. So for me it doesn't make sense to buy the MBA M3 today. But that's just my opinion.

Previously had a thicker one that would make contact with the screen and would leave smudges on the screen, so found this thinner one that doesn’t make contact with the screen when the lid is closed
If you're going to use a laptop near the ocean, choose an Air over the MBP. Cheaper to replace if you trip on seaweed. Just kidding, just got my base M3 MacBook Air and totally agree, it's more than capable for my needs as a web developer who needs to do occasional Adobe Suite work. However, most of my work really requires (for me) big monitors. For the money I would have spent on a MBP, instead of the Air, I got a new M4 Mac Mini. So now I have a perfect travel machine, and a backup, in case something ever goes wrong with either machine, like a giant wave catching me on my seaside walks. (Actually Lake Michigan shore walks).
For general web browsing or light photo/video editing, this is still a great option. Especially for someone with an iPhone. Best for anyone in middle school, high school, adults with a Blue collar jobs, or college students not majoring in engineering nor finance/accounting/economics.
Do yourself a favor, that keyboard cover will only make your screen dirtier and possibly break easily. After the butterfly keyboard debacle, this isn't much of an issue anymore and keyboard cover is not necessary

Probably depends if you are okay waiting and what you will be using your MacBook for. If you are just using it for web browsing, emails and word processing you will most likely not see a difference between the m3 and m4. But if you are doing video editing, 3D modelling and processor/graphics intensive work then there might be a little benefit waiting for m4

The screen developed a pink tint and some vertical lines. It was present for a few weeks then randomly resolved itself. But I had already got the m3 by that time 😂
Working on Windows for 20 years. Passionate apple hat3r. Bought same macbook ( specks and color ) last week. Now i hat3 macos even more. It lacks most common sensible features. Only reason to buy macbook was i badly wanted to work on Logic pro, which is only available under apple.

I managed to fix it, not sure how it broke, I’m usually very careful with it. I’m thinking it might have been a GPU issue from rendering out hundreds of 4k UA-cam videos

How did your M1 MacBook Pro break?
The screen developed a pink tint and some vertical lines. It was present for a few weeks then randomly resolved itself. But I had already got the m3 by that time 😂

Working on Windows for 20 years. Passionate apple hat3r. Bought same macbook ( specks and color ) last week. Now i hat3 macos even more. It lacks most common sensible features. Only reason to buy macbook was i badly wanted to work on Logic pro, which is only available under apple.

How do you break a laptop in 4 years? Is it Apple's terrible build quality or your poor handling? A laptop should work at least for 8 years!
I managed to fix it, not sure how it broke, I’m usually very careful with it. I’m thinking it might have been a GPU issue from rendering out hundreds of 4k UA-cam videos
Two of my 4 macbooks broke (all within 5 years) on their own from minimal use and commonly known defects
@@dsmith3383 Man, I must be really spoiled because I used to have a ThinkPad T430. it was built like a tank. I had it until 2021 and it only broke because of my carelessness.

I knew the reason, how he broke the MacBook Pro M1 was because of overprotection; I think he used a keyboard silicone skin after closing or opening the lid, keeping inside it caused. Even I were faced with the same issue with the M1 Air 13.3-inch base model, I brought it in June 2021, and within the month, I got a double tint on the screen due to the silicone skin. A little pressure on the screen, and it happened, and I just threw away the silicone skin with several stabs on it, but till now it works wonderfully. I gave it to my little brother for a personal laptop, and I purchased the M3 Air with 16 GB RAM, 512 SSD, and 13.6 inches.
thank you but no. M4 is coming out in Spring. The price will be very similar, we are talking about less than $200 difference, not $500. If this M3 air is $499, great, good machine. If $999, than sorry, trash.
