@@gregtroyan that's quite understandable. Which is your overall favorite side quests in the series? Mines are Triple Triad and the amount of optional bosses and dungeons in the MMOs. The Raids are also great.
@@cerealguy9979 My immediate first thought of my favorite sidequests in the series was "the sidequests in Chrono Trigger" because that game is so close to a Final Fantasy game I basically consider it to be one, hahaha. If I consider MMO expansion packs to be side-content, then definitely the stuff in XI, easily. I'm a big fan of Wings of the Goddess, Chains of Promathia and Seekers of Adoulin. Wings of the Goddess has a lot of optional scenarios within it that are some of the best story content in the series, so if I have to pick something that's truly optional, then it would be the nation missions in Wings of the Goddess, since you only need to play through one nation to proceed with the main story, but I did all 3. The Abyssea stuff is light enough on story that one could think of it as a sidequest too and it was pretty fun. But if that doesn't count, all the stuff with Yuffie and Vincent in VII and the hidden Zack cutscene. In general, I like my side content to have story significance, and the reason Chrono Trigger's side-content is so great is that basically all of it offers that, but unlike VI, the game feels complete without it. The side-content in CT enriches the experience by A LOT but it isn't necessary. I also really, really, really love FFII's Soul of Rebirth.

XI expensions have really some of the greatest story of any FF games that can rival even the ones from the VII-X Era. Such a shame that because being a old MMO not a lot of people consider XI. @@cerealguy9979 I'm mainly a story guy and the content in II adds a lot to the story. But everything I ranked above it I think is technically better, even if I have my preference. But yeah. Fully agree that it's a shame that most FF players skip XI when Wings of the Goddess is a thing. It's a damn shame.
At least a third of my playtime in FFXIV has been the side content, especially running the deep dungeons like Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High (the deep dungeon found in Stormblood expansion). And of course, absolutely got to love the Hildebrand quest lines to make you laugh and smile! 😂 I've been watching your videos and have really been enjoying them so far!
@@gregtroyan FF14 moved into my top spot after I played the Shadowbringer and Endwalker expansions, replacing FF9. The story to 14 has just gotten better and better as the expansions have gone on. I have cried way too much playing through the storyline, among all the other feels 😅 I've grown to really care about the world and the characters you interact with. I love how even the crafting and gathering jobs have job quests with some really great stories (the Alchemist one is one of my favorites) FF9 is my number 2 overall and my favorite out of the single player entries. It's a game I've played multiple times and keep coming back to. Plus it has my favorite villian of all time, Kuja 😁

I don't know how many of my vids you've watched and don't want to spoil my rankings for you, but I will say that I'm looking forward to diving back fully into XIV after I finish up Another Eden. I just did the XV crossover event in XIV last week.

@@job1n I have a complicated view on XVI at the moment. I have concerns that the success of the game will lead to era where we get a lot of M rated "dark" Final Fantasy games. I also don't own a PS5 and suspect I will end up doing what I did with XV, which is waiting a few years to actually play the game and watching the story on UA-cam first (I think it took me 5 years to play XV after release). I've also been pretty consumed by finishing these videos, so really, I haven't actually had much time to soak in XVI. I've heard great things about the demo and how everyone thinks it will be a top tier FF, so I'm really looking forward to checking out the story and playing it eventually. I do have a sneaking suspicion this has the potential for being a top 5 game in the series. So, I'm excited for it, but it's a little bittersweet in some ways. I purposefully haven't watched footage of the demo yet just in case I decide to react to the whole "movie". : D
Also, I'm pleasantly surprised to find someone who generally agrees with my takes. I'd love to see your rankings in the different categories to see how similar we are.

I totally get that, but honestly I don't see the mainline games being rated M as the norm because of lost sales. My thought is that Square was more open to it now because of Rebirth coming in the next 9 months as a big rated T title for the series. That's right, you mentioned in your videos that you don't have a PS5. While I get that the extra PS5 power is needed for certain aspects of the game, it's a shame that it prevents some people from playing at launch! I'm holding off on playing the demo, as well as not watching the last few trailers since I've already seen too much, and am just going to jump into the full game next week! I'm surprised at how much I'm looking forward to XVI and my confidence in it from what I've seen, because of the result of XII, XIII, and XV even though I enjoyed all of them. I'll have to work on those lists and get back with you! I do know how I rank the games overall minus the mmos. Maybe we can chat on discord so I don't keep sending you messages on UA-cam!
