My friend’s son is extremely allergic to eggs, so she buys him vegan products often. This kind of thing could kill him, and he’s only a year old. This is so disgusting in so many ways.
Why in the world would anyone risk their son’s life by eating out? 🤔 That seems insane to me.
@@mfranck1 I guess for the same reason kids with allergies go to school. I went to school with several kids who had dangerous allergies. One of my friends was allergic to chocolate and a kid spilled their chocolate milk in the lunchroom and some of it splashed on her arm. She broke out in hives, but thankfully didn’t have breathing difficulties because she didn’t actually ingest any. They can’t live their entire lives in fear and not let the kids live normal lives. They just have to be as careful as possible and carry an EpiPen with them.
@@tarabooartarmy3654 children need to go to school. They don’t need bakery made donuts. 🙄

@@mfranck1or how about you just mind your own business? It’s their job how they raise their child, you nosy busybody.
Besides, kids can be homeschooled. Mine were. And they are all a lot more respectful of others than you are.
Only a very toxic, selfish and immature person would do what she did. Everyone that was lied to about the ingredients and bought her food should pursue legal action against her.
Fully agree! And the online messages should be used as evidence. Horrible!
And they wonder why I give anyone the side eye when they hand me something and tell me it’s vegan. Unless I know you or trust where it came from, I’m not eating it
☝THIS!!!!!
Same…
Yep!
I don’t eat anything that I myself or someone I know is vegan has prepared, had a few bad experiences over the years with people either lying or not understanding what a vegan can not consume.
This isn’t some person who is coming over for a cook out, it’s a bakery we’re talking about, that advertise and continuously assured people their products were lifestyle but also allergy friendly, please think about it more, or else your future comments will come out tasteless and ignorant.
I am a vegan baker and seeing this really is disheartening. The ignorance and laziness is astounding & actually criminal!
as a mom of a child with severe food allergies this enrages me to no end - as a vegan it enrages me too- I had to tell someone making me boba milk tea tonight twice I wanted soy - if I wasn't watching him he would have gave me milk - if I had an allergy it would have or could have been dangerous and even deadly ! There was a beautiful young ballerina in NY who recently died due to no allergens listed on cookies - this is heart breaking. and horrific ! close this lady down and sue her !
Im the same way. It’s so easy for someone to screw up your order. That’s why I prefer to make my own food at home and if I do go out to eat, I prefer to be at an all vegan establishment.
Wow, kudos to Cindy for pressing the seller about the issue, she sounds like a great and caring business owner who has her customers best interests at heart. And shame on Michelle for lying about what she is selling, she could make someone very ill or even kill them by lying about food ingredients. I hope she gets put out of business.
I believe the owner’s name is John that reached out to Michelle.
John was very polite and respectful in his responses and I’m so grateful to him that he didn’t give up after sleazeball Michelle first passionately claimed they are not Dunkin Donuts and she’d “never do that!” He could have taken her at her word and let an awkward situation slide but he absolutely did the right thing even though it was the harder thing to do.
As a vegan, I would have been so upset to find out that they are not. My sister has celiac disease and diverticulitis and tons of food allergies, including a serious allergy to eggs. She would have ended up in the hospital. That is so wrong.
CRY MOAR VEGAN
@@2ndFcRecon2006 why are you such a jerk?
Wtf?? That's so messed up!! She definitely needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent, fined, and barred from ever selling food products again. My heart goes out to anyone who was affected by this despicable person
My husband has celiac. This could do serious damage. Unbelievable.
This validates my paranoia & trust issues.
What a freaking scumbag move! I hope the internet/legal system has no mercy on her
I used to own a vegan restaurant and bakery that specialized in allergy and special diet friendly items. Per the health inspector in our state we were required to provide list of ingredients upon request. This is very concerning. My friend knows a young lady who died from eating a slice of cake that had peanut butter in it
I am ethically vegan and celiac. This is why I rarely eat out. This is so very disappointing and this woman requires more than a slap on the wrist. I get so ill if I have gluten and it lasts for months.
Heartbreaking and kudos to the shop that cought it.
Was the kids name Donald Duncan Duck?
Cindy's Snacks is a nice little shop owned by a lovely, responsible couple. My heart goes out to them. I hope locals will rally around them.
Agreed. They are super awesome.
They’ve got nothing to worry about. They did nothing wrong. They did the right thing and if anything they got a huge amount of publicity from this. I’ve never heard of them until this incident and now I really want to go check them out. Wish they were closer.
Did you ask John the owner of Cindy snacks before sharing this because he made a very long Instagram post asking people to not share the story anymore cuz he didn't want to go viral for this. This woman's already been shut down because of his report. @@TheVeganZombie
@@TheVeganZombie Wish YOU were closer! haha. Just an update - they are temporarily closed now. Not because of this fiasco. They found a new spot a few minutes away, and will be reopening I think in June 2024. Let us know in a video if you're planning to head down. I'd love to meet up and show you the great vegan spots in LI. If I don't find out in time - definitely check out The Purple Elephant cafe, which has a great vegan menu. If you're in the mood for Indian, House of India is delicious - just be sure to specify no ghee. Both those spots are within 5 mins of the new cindysnacks address.
Thank you for covering this Chris. I do have an anaphylactic dairy allergy and celiac disease. I cannot even imagine if I would have eaten one of these! This is awful!
Isn’t this a case to the courts? This is simply unacceptable, but also deserves penalties. Ethics … 😢
Honestly, I have been amazed how many people don't really understand the term "vegan" and think it's just no meat. I worked a trade show for a brand a few years ago that was marketing some products and a new book they put together. I breezed through the book and found many ingredients that were non-vegan and the bosses didn't really get it at first.
Thanks for making all vegans aware of what could be going on with our food.
I had purchased an item from a bakery many times over. They always told me it was vegan. Then one day they informed me it actually had dairy in it. Im still not sure how to react due to them admitting guilt and being so kind. Still absolutely disgusted.
Ugh. Like how do businesses not know what’s in their own products? As far as I’m concerned, if a restaurant, chef or any business that sells food doesn’t know what ingredients are considered vegan friendly then they shouldn’t be in business.
@TheVeganZombie Id have to agree. Its unacceptable.
That’s so awful. I can’t believe he said I don’t want to kill anyone and she was like whatever.
Yeah, it was like she was implying, "Yeah, if you're worried about not killing anyone, feel free to not sell them." Maybe she even thinks it's on them if they trust her and sell them. I just don't understand how she can live with herself.
Yeah it was like she didn’t want to get caught in the lie but maybe he better take them off the shelf. But up to him.
I trust no one.
Yeah, I went to an event. Call the plant-based EXPO. And even though all the vendors were told that they could only bring plant-based food. People put honey in the food Real bees honey not vegan and they just blatantly ignored the rules
That happened to one I went to maybe 5 or 6 years ago in NYC.
Unacceptable!
There's no point, it's just weird to do that. There's probably 20 different kinds of plant-based sweeteners out there. In fact honey is the only non-plant-based sweetener I know of.
Oh no... I hope you survived the trauma of eating honey. Unwaa you're an infant there is nothing wrong with it.
@@melodioushasteWell, if someone doesn't want that in their body, they have a right. It's really insane that you think people shouldn't have autonomy over their own bodies.
This is insane! I rarely eat out because I always fear of something like this happening.
Me too. I prefer reading package ingredients. You cannot trust anyone else.
@@WhiteHorseStudioArtThe problem with gluten is that it's not an allergen that has to be declared, so unless you contact manufacturers about whether, for example, the natural flavoring in a product is made from barley, you can never be sure. Thanks, FDA!
@@1029blue Yeah, I never eat anything with "Natural flavors". I look for gluten free & also Vegan certification seal. Wheat, or barley, or horse or cat could be called "natural." Whenever I see that... I know the company cannot be trusted. It's honestly a disgusting dishonest term to hide anything they want.
And people wonder why coeliac vegans(like me) cook all our food at home, because it’s so stressful to be eating out and not knowing exactly what’s in the food. Food allergies are NO joke 😠😠
Exactly
An acquaintance of mine had a fellow occupant who worked in a restaurant for awhile. And my acquaintance told me that this disgusting person always sold hamburgers with real meat to vegans claiming that the burger was vegan - on purpose!
That's unbelievable.
The update is saying Cindys won't be associating with Savory Fig anymore.
Hopefully, all unethical businesses will all go down. We need to get the full name of the responsible people first so they can never fool others again because they could just open a new business and people like savory fig cannot be trusted ever.
Thank you for the update. No food service businesses should associate with Michelle anymore.
OMG! Of all the donuts in the world she picked DD!?!?!? INCREDIBLE!!!!!
lets be honest her being a dumb criminal is a good thing. situation couldve went on for longer
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! Why????😡
A quick buck!
@@titovalasques Yeah, a quick buck that could have killed folks.

That is flipping crazy I got family members that cannot have gluten in their diets. She should be sued by Dunkin for stealing their donuts for her own and using it as a gluten free and vegan friendly.
Thanks for reporting about this as we did not know about this.
When I was maybe 19, my mom and I went to a fully vegan food festival. There were many booths and we enjoyed various different foods throughout the day, and chose to end with some on-site, freshly made ice cream. I noticed the staff using “plant-based milk” from a typical cow’s milk gallon jug, and “agave” from a honey bear bottle. I questioned them asking if it was indeed vegan (at a fully vegan food festival) and they assured me it was. To this day, I’m still not entirely convinced. Why would they transfer the products to containers that typically house these non-vegan products? If the products were in fact vegan why go through this trouble (not to mention the possible cross-contamination)? I should have said something to the event staff, just as a precaution.
Can you keep us updated? Wanna know her response to this. 🌱
The IG account is gone and NY state has opened an investigation
NYS has?? DO you have more details? Links?
Really? She should definitely have a consequence for her actions!
@@saganandroid4175 Yahoo and others have it up on their pages, Local news has covered it as well, varying reports of the investigation is official yet but it been reported
A complaint was filed and there is an investigation
Wow. Good. I was looking for their account. And a fake one is already up.
wow, I feel sick. How lucky that Dunkin has signature sprinkles, so this was figured out.
The only reason to do something like that is to be vindictive, otherwise it just doesn't make any sense. Even if they were lazy, it is no harder to purchase vegan gluten free stuff and pass it off as your own than any other product. Egg dairy and gluten are serious allergies, serious enough for it to be required as a warning on labels even if it's just cross contamination. I feel so bad for all the people that were struggling to get their health on track and ate those products, it must have been a complete nightmare!!!!!!
I commend Cindy snacks for doing the right thing and questioning this other woman. And for that woman giving Cindy snacks a Dunkin Donuts or something similar to it is unacceptable and dangerous. Being that Cindy had ask the person about the ingredients and this other person saying nothing was wrong with it to me should be sued.
So glad you covered this story. Shocking and sad
This is why a business owner should be certified vegan.
Huh? How do you certify a person as vegan? No certification like that exists.
@@user-fz7tm3rq8eyes it does, you can buy vegan certified products all over. It’s probably an expensive route to go, but there is a certification
It sounds like it wouldn’t have mattered in this case. This woman was very irresponsible and just flat out didn’t care.
How’d my comment get removed? Lmaoo you CAN get your business and products certified as vegan. If you buy products from the store, you can see the vegan certified logo on the packaging.
@@user-fz7tm3rq8eWell first you have to tell 20 strangers your vegan. Then, within the next 7 business days you will wake up on a desserted island with nothing but a small pig and a knife. Of you resist eating the pig for 3 days and nights, the vegan council deems you vegan and you get a booklet in the mail similar to a US passport. There's more but I've already said too much really
That’s why I make the majority of my food. This situation is crazy.
I love Cindy’s snacks and frequent there often. I had almost bought the doughnuts but ultimately decided not to. One thing that I haven’t seen too many people talking about is how much she was charging for the doughnuts (and the extreme profit considering they were just Dunkin Doughnuts). One doughnut was $8 (apparently someone else was quoted $65 for a dozen). For reference, when I was in Ohio I went to the vegan doughnut company and got a doughnut nearly twice the size for less than $4. Ultimately I’m just very happy I never purchased from her but it definitely has left a feeling of mistrust and caution going forward.
This is why I hardly ever eat out anymore.
Thank you for covering this story.
Despicable.
That is dangerous because some have life threatening allergies.
Celiac is so dangerous as are dairy and egg allergies. She’s lucky no was was hurt. What a psychopath
This scares me 😱
This is unforgivable. We cannot trust home bakers or restaurants. My daughter has severe celiac disease, egg, and peanut allergies. She also was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 41 years old. She is on two different insulins. This is why we don’t trust restaurants. She has gotten very sick from ‘gluten-free’ restaurants. She got blisters on her mouth from lip balm once that contained gluten. The diabetes doctor said our health plant-based, gluten-free, minimal sugar diet is probably why her diabetes is only now getting diagnosed. We eat healthy, get exercise and not overweight. Her bloodwork was great, other than showing the type 1 autoimmune diabetes.
I feel like people go out of there way to harm vegans sometimes. There's just this deep disdain for people that have stepped away from meat and other harmful products.
that's what this feels like
This literally happens I am allergic to dairy and the amount of times I went out to eat something and people deliberately put milk in it to get the better on vegans is quite frankly shocking. I had a burger, coffee and other foods tempered with. Especially when it’s older men. It got better over the years.
Thanks for this video, Chris. I can always count on you to keep us informed about this sort of thing. I don't buy bread anymore without checking the ingredients for L-Cysteine.
They are 2 type of people who do stuff like this . Those who are not smart enough to know or even understand what vegan or vegetarian is and those who don't care at all
First of all, thank you for this video. I have no allergies, BUT I am vegan because of my ethical and moral values, and to me is important that when I purchase a vegan product, it has to be 100% vegan. After my experience at Chipotle when I found a piece of meat in my food, I realized non vegan restaurants do not bother to be careful to not cross contaminate the food. Back to your video, I read that a restaurant in Milan, Italy, advertised a Tiramisu dessert as vegan, the woman that ordered the dessert was highly allergic to dairy and she died because the Tiramisu was not vegan. So you are absolutely right, this is not only a lack of respect to vegans, it can also end up killing somebody.
Sounds like attempted murder.
She is in serious troble with state inspector! She can go to prison for this!
That is so fucked up. Who does that 😢💔.
Interesting she said she was making donuts for a birthday party... then she wasn't home... then she was "still with her boyfriend (in different town)"...
This is horrifying omg. My nephew has a severe egg allergy this would have been a disaster for him. Not to mention the immense guilt vegans have if they accidentally eat animal products... not to mention after years of being vegan, animal products could make them very sick!
Good call, Cindy's Snacks, for noticing, suspecting, and investigating this! You blew the top off of a liars game... Thanks Chris for sharing!! Please keep us updated ❤
Surely this is against the law in multiple ways.
It’s endangerment, infringement of copyright ,fraud and violation of health codes at least.
This is why I don't/can't trust anyone. My wife can attest to this. Lol
This is also why a lot of times istg i only trust vegan restaurants.
Even vegan restaurants have to have some of their products brought in from other vendors
@@mfranck1 Exactly; I am deathly allergic to gluten so I know it's always a crap shoot when I eat out. Even packaged food in the US can contain a small percentage of gluten and be called gluten free in the US ~~
*vegan restaurants run by REAL vegans
I used to live on LI years ago and go to cindys snacks often! i was SHOOK when I read their insta post about this. This just makes me even more wary of eating out. I dont have food allergies but I still dont want to unknowingly consume animal products. A lot of people want to capitalize off of vegans and the "trend" of veganism. In the past, when going out to eat at restaurants, the staff often would not know what vegan meant, and confused it for vegetarian or even gluten-free. Now, people still may not know what veganism is, or want to cut corners, and serve up something with animal products out of ignorance, laziness, greediness, or even mal-intent. Even before this I preferred eating at home because you can never be certain about whats going into your food or how it is handled. I will continue to support the vegan businesses that I trust, knowing that otherwise there is a risk of breech of trust. I support Cindys Snacks for calling them out & doing the right thing. I can only wonder why this wasnt caught sooner, as Cindys has been posting pics of their donuts from savory fig for a while that are clearly dunkin donuts ! And people in the comments saying how much they taste like dunkin ! And even though I havent eaten a dunkin donut in over 10 years, I do know remember how cheap and artificial they tasted.
Anyway, this savory fig woman needs to face some consequences as she could have really hurt or even killed people. If you want a sure fire vegan baker on LI go to Pride Enjoy! its an all vegan bakery with all goods baked in house. And support Cindys too! Maybe just their stuff with labels on it for now..
What a disgusting thing to do. Someone can actually die from this. How awful. And I think Dunkin’ Donuts make their own sprinkles and you won’t find it online. But that’s definitely DD
True, scary to think about, not to mention if someone had an allergic reaction, that could result in a lawsuit.
@@lucianas4919exactly. She was being selfish. Thinking about money instead of people’s health.
Agree. I have a friend who is deathly allergic to peanuts, even the smell can set her off, or if she comes in contact with something that someone else touched that had peanuts/butter on their hands. She said one of her biggest fears is someone lying to her about a product by claiming it’s peanut free when it’s not.
Someone most likely died because of it, because if it has animal products, so some animals were killed.
This is why avoid eating at carnist places at all costs. If this happens in 100% vegan establishments, imagine what goes on at the carnist places claiming they have "vegan" this and "vegan" that.
yeah me too, not worth the anxiety. I don’t enjoy the eating out experience that I am paying for so no point
Bingo
It's weird that your hatred of meat eaters is so much that you believe that things would be worse at such places because this happened at a vegan establishment...
The thought process is basically "meat eaters are bad, so they would do much worse things at their establishments!"
What?
@@AlvinKazushe’s not saying they’re “bad” just that cross contamination happens A LOT, especially in restaurants that serve meat
@@AlvinKazu you always take things so personally?
That’s immoral and criminal!
The Savory Fig? She just destroyed her business.
Oh yeah, that’s an understatement.
I had to just stop going to anywhere that wasn't 100% vegan after several instances of workers straight up not knowing what's in the food they're serving. I've had way too many instances of cross contamination and ignorance, from dairy-based dressing on a side-salad for a vegan burger, to wrong information given about vegan syrups and additions in coffee, to straight up fries advertised as a vegan option but cooked in cow fat. I always know when somebody's goofed, within an hour I get super bad stomach cramps and GI issues, and it'll make me sick for the rest of the day. I'm lucky that I have a few friends in the local activism scene who also run cafes, I've stood next to these people in cubes and vigils, I know I can trust what they put in front of me. Without them, I'd just eat at home.
As a vegan she would be consuming great quantities of an inedible item if she sold me that junk
I love Cindysnacks!! Thankfully, they came forward. The unSavory Fig sucks!
I work in a quick service restaurant they teach you that Allergies are serious!
So shameful!!! And I’m sure she’s not a vegan! The way she lied to him in writing no less made it even more loathsome. I’m vegan for humane reasons so eating dairy is not life threatening to me BUT the thought of ingesting something from the suffering and misery of a female cow whose baby was stolen from her and slaughtered while she herself is eventually slaughtered is just horrifying. Thank you so much for calling attention to this as I had not heard of it. I really think non-vegans do not care at all whether something they are passing off as vegan actually is vegan.
The strangest thing to me is, how is this woman even saving money doing this? It costs FAR more to buy a finished product than it does to buy the raw ingredients and make them yourself. You're paying for labor and overhead when you buy from a commercial chain. If she was somehow making bank, then it would be easy to conclude she's doing it for money. Maybe she was just trying to 'grow her brand'? Expecting to never get caught? It's a sad day but, on the bright side, these things are inevitable, and we need to find better ways to guarantee quality control. These home-test kits are a good start.
I think it’s fair to assume these are old donuts that would’ve been thrown out.
I don't know. Gluten-free foods that are free from cross-contamination are extremely expensive. I have celiac disease, and most certified GF foods are 2 or 3 times the price of regular foods. Of course, a lot of so-called GF foods from bakeries aren't actually GF but "gluten-friendly", as they are cross-contaminated, but if someone tries to make safe GF baked goods, it can get very pricey very fast.
@mfranck1 I was thinking that too. Perhaps she has a friend connected to Dunkin Donuts who can get her the items that don’t sell. Or even items as soon as they come in. Theft or leftovers and re-sell them.
I would definitely Sue… So sad that people would take the risk with someone else’s life.
Some people are shady as hell, and all for a quick buck and no work required. This could have harked someone, even killed someone. My mom has celiacs and she would have violently 💩 her pants at the least, and ended up in the hospital at worst. The reactions can vary, which is why it’s no joke to lie about food ingredients.
She had no business, it was all fake.Had she not been brazen enough to use the DD 🍩 with the logo sprinkles, it may never have been caught.
Thank you for telling the public that!
I hear this on the radio yesterday right before you posted this. I was going to look it up but u did it for me. This is a shame. My daughter said they could get someone sick.
Often non-vegan products are sold as vegan out of ignorance, it may not be deliberate. It doesn’t make it ok though. Makes me not trust though unless I’m certain or I make the food myself. Most people haven’t got a clue what vegan means and some don’t even know the difference between vegan and gluten free.
They need to shut the bakery down, for selling Dunkin Doughnuts and passing it off as its a vegan and gluten-free doughnut. I’ve been a vegan for 10 years and I know what it’s like to have food allergies. I refused to go and order coffee at Dunkin. Once I asked for a coffee with Oat milk, I drank the coffee and noticed it tasted strange. I was vomiting and ended up a UTI. Food allergies and cross contamination should be taken seriously
Omg! I LOVE this STORE OWNER!!!
Bless this store!!!
As someone with wheat and egg allergies, it's such a rare treat to find baked goods that are both vegan/egg-free and gluten-free (usually no wheat, but you have to check now for "gluten-removed wheat"). This is so upsetting. This would hurt. Lying about food ingredients could get someone with severe allergies killed. I hope that "baker" faces serious charges.
It is hard to put in words how sick I get when I consume a speck of gluten; when it happens, always wonder when I will have to go to emergency. Can't imagine eating a whole donut. I can recall many times waitresses rolling their eyes when I inquired about gluten free options, and certain celebrities mocking people who said they had a gluten allergy. I used to wish those people could experience the allergic reaction just once so they would stop mocking. Thankfully awareness is way better these days... That he kindly and delicately inquired with her and she still denied it, knowing she could hurt somebody--that says it all. I was doing some sleuthing and I did find her FB site is still up.... comments were pretty interesting there, too.
Thank you for posting this. I have problems with dairy and wheat. I learned years ago not to believe food handlers. Can’t remember the last time I had a dunkin donut. Can live without them. Better to be safe.
Cindy’s did the right thing by demanding proof. I’m not mad as Cindy’s. I think they’ll probably institute a periodic QA system for the future. It’s the other vendor who is a horrible person. I hope Cindy’s sues them into oblivion
😮 Outrageous!
This is so messed up, someone could have died. Thank goodness the owner spotted the DD donut, and exposed this woman before anyone did get seriously ill.
I have celiac and happy this owner took action.
WTF vegan donuts are so simple to make
I'm glad she got caught. We all know america doesn't run on dunkins 😂
12:06 Correction - she ruined her SCAM, that's all it ever was. Buying another company's product and selling it not only as your own but under false pretenses is not a legitimate business. This is probably not the only product she was doing this with either, given the Elizabeth Holmes level sociopathic behavior it demonstrates.
I have a problem with people who have no integrity. Those people tire me out and there are too many of them out there. There is no excuse for that as it is not an accident but known and or intentional. And then covering it up is even worse. An accident is different and that is intentional.
It reminds me back in the 90s when going out to eat, which for a while I didn't because I cooked better than a lot of foods available for vegetarians/vegans in restaurants at those times and the high probability of cross contamination. If I ordered a pasta dish I would say no chicken broth in the base. I wouldn't order soups as I knew most likely the base would be a meat base at those times. When I ate the food I'd be worried to myself if it was really vegetarian and think of taking a sample to test. I didn't though.
These times are different and foods specified as vegan, gluten free are to be what they say they are, and the accountability and liability for those with severe allergies.
How could they think they would not get caught when you are selling to a very specific target market that will have very specific reactions to the items they can't tolerate? I can usually discover what I ate that contained gluten in a short time.
Couple years ago in my city a vegan spot opened up in the food court at the mall, as a long term vegan I got so excited because use to we didn’t have hardly any vegan options in restaurants let along full vegan spots.. I tried the food it wasn’t good in my opinion so I never went back but few months after they opened they closed down n I didn’t know why, I just googled the restaurant to see maybe why it shut down only to find a ton of workers outing the restaurant about using non vegan ingredients while pushing the food off as vegan food to hike up the prices.. they got shut down after failing multiple health inspections and getting exposed people wrote so many negative reviews I never seen a review page look so bad, I felt so bad too because they scammed people especially vegans n lied to us n lowkey got away with it for about a year, so sad so many businesses n people can be so shady and untrustworthy.
When ever you eat out you are taking a chance. Some people will make mistakes either knowingly or unknowingly.
After years of being on a strict plant based diet your body will recognize any animal products as foreign and it will likely make you sick. Beyond the ethical concerns, and the concern for those with allergies, this would make many long term vegans sick.
Absolutely deplorable, endangering consumers and a breach of trust. Disgusting.🤢🤮
I will eat vegan foods when they are vegan and taste good. For The Savory Fig I will not buy from her ever and I will tell everyone else not to buy anything from her since she is just taking Dunkin Donuts and repacking them to lie about them being allergy free or at least gluten free and dairy free. My mom would have a reaction the next day or two from eating one of these wheat based donuts. I would at least wake up with a stuffy runny nose from eating these cow's milk based donuts as well. I haven't been able to have cow's milk and goat's milk in any form since I had weird reactions to both in 2018.
You are an appropriate person to have such a discussion Chris. You certainly walk your talk as a vegan, show your integrity, and whether vegan is popular or not, there you'll be, a vegan. Your focus here seems clearly about the important principles involved. In addition, even though she did wrong here, here's hoping that getting outed in this way might be a wake up call to her about her life, and maybe she can alter the course of her life. Legal remedies are appropriate, and yet punishment does little good without following it closely with rehabilitation. As we all know there are some people who have turned their life around because they got the right help. If rehabilitation doesn't work at first, then sometimes we can at least be the first part in someone's eventual life turn around. Responsibility mixed with compassion. Great topic.
I also know people like ex colleagues and family who would deliberately ignore the fact that someone is vegan or gluten free because to these people, they’re not real things. My brother (and admittedly my past self) has said this on multiple occasions and truly believed it. I’ve worked with chefs who don’t care and make people who asked for vegan or gluten free products with these products in them anyway. In this day and age though, law suits are more popular and people have a bit more understanding but there definitely will still be people out there who think vegans and gluten free people are insufferable and deserve to be tricked. I certainly would have laughed my head off at a story like this. It’s why I don’t eat anything that wasn’t made by me in my kitchen since going vegan. It would be my own karma if i ate one of those donuts.
I don’t understand what she was thinking. Does she really not know people can die? Also, how did she even make money off this scam? She had to buy name brand food and then re-sell it. Isn’t it cheaper to make everything from scratch, as she advertised?
Thank you for this, absolutely disgusting she should be prosecuted
A man at the Farmer’s Market in the dead ☠️ Fry’s Electronics business parking lot in Austin, TX lot sells “vegan” Indian empanadas ( apples, ect.) The empanadas has dairy/butter because I can taste it 😟I won’t come back to the Saturday and Sunday farmer’s market, my trust in my community has errored. If I choose any food items to buy it would be plants because maybe that would not have animal based fertilizer 🤷🏻♀️( I have to grow my own fruits and vegetables quickly just to make sure.)
Don’t you have to be certified gluten free to have that gluten free claim for your business and checked out by an inspector??
Wow, thank you for sharing.
That’s why I eat food I make at home. I don’t trust any businesses at all.
Great once again 👏 🎉 love your work 👍
