  • This is really easy as well and the results look great.
The key learning was that when you put the basecoat render on the reveal to keep it quite thin where it meets the APU bead. Then you can easily remove the protecting strip on the bead once you’ve finished.
Unfortunately, if the render is quite thick - as you’ll see it was on one section, it’s difficult to bend the protective strip back to break the seal and be able to easily remove it.
    I hope this is useful.

Yes, I finished the side last week and the rear this week. I still have to do the final coat of silicone render on most of the front. But I’m comfortable that won’t be too difficult so am happy to take my time a bit over that. I still hope to have everything done by the end of this month

Nice work. We are doing our house now and about how way through. It’s not too bad once you get into it!

It’s great to hear you’re doing it as well. Good luck - it’ll definitely be worth it when winter comes :)

Is it fully finished now? If so, how long did it take to DIY the EWI from start to finish? I'm thinking about cracking on myself as well

It’s nearly done. Just the final coat of silicone render to do on some of the front. And if the weather’s okay tomorrow I’ll get most of that done then. It’s taken 4 months. I’ve been working quite hard at it but I do have a job and three children so not that hard :)

Just to confirm, it's all finished now - yesterday I put back the last light next to the front door and now I'm just cleaning up, particularly the windows and the ground.

Very happy with how it looks, with how much less gas I need for heating and with the lower condensation. So all in all, delighted :)

Great job mate. Could u tell me please what is the colour of the render?

Thanks a lot. It’s actually “white” render. I thought it’d be a brighter white than this but I only chose white because I didn’t want to have to mix tinting pigment into it (which I thought would be tough to get uniform across batches). So I’m actually happy it’s a bit of a grey “white”.
