Excellent tip about building and edge on larger surfaces, to give a spot for the next patch to work. Thanks for that !! I use products like this to cover old concrete walls, that are unsightly, 1st doing a scratch coat to level out the walls, letting this dry 30 days, because it's a cementicious product.
Just had my whole house done in the exact same way using EWi products and render. I am amazed at how nice the finish is and how easily they did it. Will last a long time me thinks 😊
Great video as always! I am a complete render novice, only having plastered/skimmed a house previously, but the previous video on silicone on timber frame gave me the confidence to try it out on my garden building. I used the ewipro system, but it’s very similar to this, and the finish is, in my untrained eyes, amazing 😅 Thank you for these videos!
Hey fella, thank you for posting the video, seems like the ideal product for cement board! Just wanted to ask if you have ever tried floating and SPONGE FINISHING the Baumit Star Contact base coat ready for painting? Like you would normal rendering. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks pal..😊
Nice job pal, we’ve been doing that system with wetherby on insulated boards on council property’s now for 15 years and to be fair it ages quite well. Keep up the good work 👍
Define easier than s&c and an overall better more consistent product, I avoid s&c now, only recommend silicone.. never use this system but looks easy enough.. top work
Hey mate, thanks for putting this video together it's excellent. I'd really like to use this Baumit but everywhere I've looked to order it seems to charge insane amounts for delivery. I need three bags and I'm getting quoted £136 for delivery which is insane! I couldn't seem to see it in any of the major merchants only K-Rend.. Where do you get yours?
Hi Blaine. Last year they did a garage conversion a few doors down from me , putting a timer framed builing on top as well. I was watching and learning of course - and I'm pretty sure that it was exactly the same sort of system - ie using cement boards, but I seem to remember them putting some form of primer on before they put the first coat of render. If I recall it was like a pinkish watery primer. Does that ring any bells with you ?
Really useful information thank you. I have to render my bay which has some bad cracks so this would be an ideal system to use. Is the top coat available in a completely smooth/fine finish?
Hey Blayne, thanks for the good work! One question for you. When cross-trowelling a wall, why do you hold the vertical axis of the trowel at a 45° angle to the floor? Why not at a 90° angle (i.e. vertical)? It's something that puzzles me when I watch your videos. Thanks very much!
Hello Blaine, have you worked with silicone, silicate and acrylic type of renders or just silicone? Have you noticed any difference in them if so? Maybe you have experience of rendering magnesium oxide boards, MgO?
I swear by this system. At the minute I’m using Johnstone’s Trade products but have also used EWI Store products in this country and also Brillux, Sto and Ispo in Germany. Ispo was one of the first but sadly no longer exists. All fantastic materials 👍🏻
How much time I should wait before smoothing the render? I fucked up today on my house, the render sticks to the shovel or comes off the wall completely. So frustrating🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
I was watching to look and try and do a beading rain lip in a front wall of bungerlow above lead strip it has sliped down abit of the front door porch so water runds down wall and goes on the rusty metal edge beading lip and where thè lead should be tucked just under it where porch is joined to rendered bourded wall thats where its leaking about 4 meters long how far are you away how much would that be to render a new rain bead lip would be better as i cant move that well after heart attack near 2years ago are you close to clacton on sea
My friends side of of her house, the old s&c has all blown on timber framed extension, was looking at using this system for her, the area is about 20m2, any idea how much this would cost in materials please?
im not questioning your professionalism but i never understand why plasterers never fully sheet of glass or other areas, but painters are ridiculed if they don't. other than that you are a top professional 😉
Is the 5mm gap between the boards really necessary ? I’ve got a builder doing a loft conversion and I’m not sure he left a 5mm gap between the cement boards. I’m worried now as the silicon render is due to go in the next few days
I can't see why there would be expansion or contraction with cement boards...wood does but not cement board. Maybe ask cement board manufacturers to be sure
@tonyarnold9784 what are the cement boards attached to? There's your answer. ( if the wood moves and the cement boards are attached then they will move to)
U should have put a coat on ure relveals aswell when putting the corners on then that way it is all bedded in under the bead and not just coating on top of the mesh, that is the worst possible way to do it
Nothing new under the Sun. Sand and cement has stood the test of time. The ancient ancestors who built structures that could not be replicated today used the old school building techniques.
that house will be green all over in 1 to 2 years, in 5 years it will look terrible unless you start using special silicone paint what costs a fortune, it will onlt stay white for a very short time im afraid, unless like me youknow how to treat your krend etc, with special chemicals,
amazing tip on working alone! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I prefer to work alone myself and this job I was told you can not do alone.
Excellent tip about building and edge on larger surfaces, to give a spot for the next patch to work. Thanks for that !!

Clear as crystal and much appreciated.

Yes definitely a long time many years to come, after 10 years you can do a single coat of silicone paint
Great video as always!

absolutely brilliant video mate 💪🏼 what thickness beads are you using? also how would the basecoat change if going onto blockwork? cheers
Looks like a good system Blaine. Great video as always🚀🚀
Hi, good video, can you tell me if used a mesh bead at the bottom of the wall near the plinth?
Damn that looks amazing, seems like a durable system too. Pro job.
It’s great to be fair!
@@PlasteringForBeginners Really good tip on doing a meter at a time too and building up a wet edge, as someone doing it alone!
Good video Blaine. Not tried this system yet, but got an EWI job for my brother next year and will do a thin coat render on this.
We use something like this in the Caribbean. It’s called Trowel tex. thin coat then rub it with a plastic float.
Can you used this system on block and brick without the need for insulation boards or polystrene?
Well explained helped me a lot thanks
excellent video-
very impressive
would you use 6mm thin coat over block work or would you see mortar lines?
Can you use a carbon steel trowel to apply silicone top coat or will it damage the edge
Thanks very much for the video, I found it very helpful 👍
You can buy a bead that sticks to the window frame and has a little strip you tear of afterwards to keep the edge of the window clean
Yeah if you find them let me know.. impossible to get them in Australia
They also allow for a bit movement when the window frame expands in the heat
Define easier than s&c and an overall better more consistent product, I avoid s&c now, only recommend silicone.. never use this system but looks easy enough.. top work

Would it be easier Blaine to spray the topcoat if your working o your own????
Really useful information thank you. I have to render my bay which has some bad cracks so this would be an ideal system to use. Is the top coat available in a completely smooth/fine finish?
Thanks for the tips (I'll use the same product on my house)
Your really good at doing this and you explain it very well I personally just don’t like the finish this product leaves
Brilliant as always buddy. Was this on top of EWI boards?
Hi
I’ll be appreciate if you tell me What material can put over waterproof?
Thanks
Can you please tell me what sort of float you use when you were floating the second coat.
Can this system go straight on to brickwork mate ?
Very helpful I’ve be leaving it too long to float it of
Hi Mate Can I use weber one coat base as the base and then silicone baumit on top?
Can this system be used on old brick walls that have previously been sand cement rendered and hacked off leaving a lot of dubbing out required?
Where do I get star contact can I use for top coat
I’ve only ever used ewi is this product cheaper blain
Blaine do you prefer this to the weberend ocr? I wouldn’t do sand and cement now. But ocr looks good too
Hey Blayne, thanks for the good work!

We were doing this render in new Zealand 30odd years ago 😊
Hello Blaine, have you worked with silicone, silicate and acrylic type of renders or just silicone? Have you noticed any difference in them if so? Maybe you have experience of rendering magnesium oxide boards, MgO?
Yes you need 2 people floating, but no 1 wants to work 😅¿ Beautiful job sir!
Excelente trabajo saludos 👍👌
Great tip on the wet edge. That's one of the hardest parts on your own.
I find speedskim the base coat leaves a good finish without the need to float.
Glad it’s helped mate and I’ll give that Speedskim tip a go in the future! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Much appreciated 👍

Do you do any work in Bolton Greater Manchester?
Hi mate can you put this straight on brick?
If you scratch coat 1st
Great video
Thanks!
Better than k rend?
Mate your a diamond plasterer 😊
Thank you pal!

Would this be for houses only or could you use this for park homes?
You can use it almost everywhere. We use this method on walls(finish) almost 25 years. But you have to know how to do it! Its not that easy.
I see this all over the place now on new builds looks very nice for six months then get filthy dirty. Can this be painted to refresh the colour??
Jet wash or algaecide cleaner. Simple.
They're probably a k-rend type render system. I've had this thincoat silicone for about 2 years. It's as white as the day I put it on.
I thought the entire point of this stuff is that it's resistant to algea and dirt etc? That's what the manufacturers website says anyway 🤷🏼♀️
Better to also add stress patches to window corners
Nice.
Top job that m8
Cheers matey!
U should have put a coat on ure relveals aswell when putting the corners on then that way it is all bedded in under the bead and not just coating on top of the mesh, that is the worst possible way to do it
I'm shore you have to wait for it to fully cure before you can primer
Nice to see the gaps mate. Its called pillowing .
Where are you based?
That stuff looks like tile adhesive.
Are the boards bacca boards
using the wrong trowel for mudding underneath mesh..
Better use sponge float 👍
Always 2 men for Top coat
Fay Burgs
I will stick to skimming looks like hard work 😅
Haha fair play pal 😂
i CAN'T BELIEVE THEY BUILT A WHOLE HOUSE WITH CEMENT SHEET .
Silicone render is a swine for cracking even if everystep hos followed perfect .
It looks fin, better not too fick.
Sir Render
Nothing new under the Sun.

Far to much messing about Frist coat scratch second coat job done
This silicon finish is nothing new realy! Professionals are doing this silicon finish almost 25 years in my country🤷
Nobody said it was

This isn’t K Rend mate…I assume you’re talking about Monocouche Render which is totally different to this 👍
k rend doesn’t go green either .. I used it 3 years ago on my daughters house and still looks good 👍🏻
