I love that I'm seeing more yu yu hakusho analysis lately. It's a real gem
Genuinely curious what the sudden spike of yu yu analysis is from, perhaps people bored of MHA after end of overhaul arc, shonen drought? Our friends Kato made two videos recently and even ember reviews said he was planning to make a yu yu hakusho video this year. Good stuff all around though
@@WeebRevolution what was so uninteresting about the end of overhaul arc? Not to sound confrontational but im probably in the minority thar thinks this has been the best season of my hero academia so far.
As for thw sudden spike it might have started with bonsai pop video as that was the first to address it i think
@@lampad4549 tbh I havent watched it since the 2nd OP, but I've heard complaints like an important Bakugo/Todoroki flashback being cut. I might also be burned out from constantly editing Boku no hero videos lol another one of those coming soon
I love the fact youtubers are doing more reviews/analysis on yu Yu Hakusho. The series is so slept on.
Yusuke Urameshi best dubbed shonen protagonist ever
the only flaw with yu yu hakusho is how togashi was not allowed to make it as dark/complex as he wanted rules themes story wise..he had to dile it back sadly to sell copies cause older teens are less likely to buy them...therefore its more basic and kid friendly shounen instead of very interesting as forced on him by shounen jump..it had potential to be way more deep but it falls short of that
The principal was not a borderline abusive figure he was the only person who could've been a father figure for yusuke at the time.
And frankly one of my biggest gripes with the show is how they moved away from the down to earth grit to demon world bs.
You're right about the principal. As for the demon world part, I'm ok with Hiei & Kurama's stories since it develops them a bit more, but I didn't like that Yusuke was distantly related to a demon.
I honestly wish Takashi found a way to keep the principle in the show regardless of all the demon stuff. He could've been a great influence on Yusuke and help mentor him in a way unrelated to fighting
I really do wish they could have built its way up to the demon world stuff a little more slowly and instead have more cases in the human world
@@Godzilla00X Takenaka isn't the principal. He's just another teacher. The principal is a balding dude that barely appears in the manga. We only see him from behind once, being threatened by Atsuko "friends" to let yusuke back on school after he came back to life.
Takenaka is just an example of a good teacher. It's the light in a world of terrible teachers that is YUYu hakusho. Also when Genkai was introduced, Takenaka wasn't really necessary, Genkai would become Yusuke life guide from then on.
@@yusukeelric It would've been nice for a normal man to provide mentoring to Yusuke, there's a lot that a woman just can't teach a boy about being a man (and visa versa). His power came from a moral authority, instead of systematic authority or hard power. Takenaka was just a good man, trying to help a fatherless kid shape up into a good man and was a check against those that would abuse their position as teachers to harm the children they were entrusted to educate. That's very important in everyday life. The world needs those kinds of everyday heroes that very few appreciate. He wasn't abusive, not anymore than Gibbs from NCIS was. Those hits to the back of the head were very light, more of an attention getter than a punishment. My pop did the same to me when I was being a little shit. No more force than when you knock on someone's front door.
The anime didn’t make any mistakes. They improved on the story and made it better
one thing i like is theres no filler..every episode ties back into the main story...as it should be...back then it was rare to get anime without filler ...theres always something important in each episode....even if its small character building....theres no episode where we just see yusuke hang out with his friends and thats it..you get a few minutes of that and then bam toguro shows up and sets up the next arc or bam next case starts...plot progress is vital to a series....imagine a whole episode of yyh where nothing matters...an episode close to that is episode 3 with kuwabara right no real plot progresses but we learn about his character and yusuke does a good deed which he needs to get revived cause the egg feeds off his vibes ...its still plot relevant ..its not just getting to know kuwabara...yusuke has to help him for his own needs...if you take out the ege then the episode feels like it could be told in half the time and they could put in more material that matetrs to go alongside building up his character..something for the plot to make us invested....see what I mean?..
So happy I found this gem-of-a-channel!
Fine, I'll watch it already, stop bullying me!
BULLI BULLI BULLI
Bully squad until your avatar is no longer Pike. but 4real you'll love Yu Yu Hakusho as much as HxH
@@WeebRevolution I'm not changing the avatar, Pike is my god-damned Spirit Animal!
Pike is amazing. Don't switch your pic please .
Awesome video. I also recently read the YYH manga and felt that it complemented my appreciation for the anime more than anything. Looking forward to part 2
Thanks! Im excited to read the next part too (my job is editing and voicing this series 😄)
Keep making videos. I loved this.
Great video. Can’t wait to read & watch part 2
Thanks frffy! Im excited to read and edit the next part too. Lately though Cherry has been pumping out a lot of other shonen posts, so please be patient 🙏
I feel like the pronunciation of Koenma is different every time in this video for some reason lol
Alternating between "Hunter Hunter" and "Hunter X Hunter" each time is making me lose my mind too lol
Holy crap! This was my first video I heard from you that I really looked at your name! Subscribing!
Thanks for the sub 🤗
to me koenma tries to be both or what the anime tried to portray as from my interpretation
he acts friendly because he chooses to act as such unlike being too strict
because he doesn't know any better he's only a spectator of life but he chose to make his own path unlike his father who he just objectifies everything in black and white mentality where he demanded the death of yusuke just because he was of demon origin
it later developed where koenma had to face his own mistakes and owning up to them in the black chapter arc that arc was in a way was also focused on koenma I mean it solidified the type of character he truly is if u think about it like he's going through his own trial and later on he exposed the spirit realm for their secrets and becomes it's new ruler which ironically is what enma intended koenma to be in the first place
Very good video
My favorite anime of all time YYH
haha, I'd agree too if Togashi didn't write Hunter x Hunter after
@@WeebRevolution too bad Togashi rushed the end of YYH because his health was bad
I find the early chapters a bit of a drag and dry BUT it does a fantastic job building Yusukes personality & letting us know the rules of the world. It helps us get attached to him and build the foundation for our connection to for the rest of the series
Jujustu Kaisen takes alot of thematic influence from yu yu I feel
You can feel a lot of influence from YYH in demon-killing Shonen manga I feel.
@@cherryboywriter6299 truuuuuu
Bleach and JuJutsu Kaisen are inspired by YYH
That name is so true
i like that you brang up the fact that Koenma's entire plan was to groom the foolish Yusuke into a child soldier who would be more effective than any prior Spirit Detective, as unlike the prior, Yusuke doesn't think too much, so he's easier to manipulate into killing people. essentially, rather than seeing the world in black and white, he sees it in moment-by-moment. one of the things i disliked most when watching Yu Yu Hakusho is how Koenma was a comedy character when his position in the narrative is so serious. learning that alot of this comedy is anime-only is very interesting to me, and explains alot about the narrative dissonance between what's happening and what's being told to us, the audience.
"Earth to toddler bitch" damn
All this research and footage, and yet...Koyama...
Koeama?
Just finished this show and I really liked it 9/10 💜
He was tearing them mf names up but i enjoyed video still 💯
Sorry but your pronunciations were a bit distracting. Just remember that most pronunciations can be broken down into consonant to vowel combos with stand alone vowels or consonants being paired with a null letter and being pronounced on their own. 'Koiyama' should be Koenma or Ko-en-ma.
A good example of those stand alone letters I mentioned is Raizen. It would be broken down into that consonants-to-vowel format with blanks where there isn't a pairing that starts with a consonant or ending in a vowel. So it would be Ra-░i-ze-n░ to pronounce Ra-i-ze-n for example.
Best of luck on your videos, it was insightful when I got past the pronunciations.
Hey hey Y'all don't forget about our friend Lethargic Ramblings Hitman Reborn post.
Made props for him for letting me piggybank off his work.

i answer that one Quickly. The manga is better. The anime has masterful soundtrack , and when it follows the manga closely, it never misses. But when invents something out of thin air that ENDS UP CONFLICTING with later revelations. Its shocking how bad it falls flat. Best example. Kuwabara acting like a pervert. This is something that later is corrected, but up to the Dark Tournament,Kuwabara character is destroyed for a weird comedic value.
The pervert is Yusuke, not Kuwabara, Yusuke is the one that likes lifting skirts, checking the goods, and such. Kuwabara even calls him out in the same episode where, in the anime, he also tries to imitate yusuke. There is also the beginning where he tries to take advantage of Keiko, wich is HIGHLY out of character.
In the manga when Yusuke leaves Kuwabara body, he ends up confused with a crying keiko in his shoulder. That's where it ends. For some reason, in the anime he tries to take advantage , nothing serious, just hugging her back, then keiko realizes that's not Yusuke anymore and slaps him. But then later he tries to do the same as yusuke .
Later Yusuke tries to use the spirit lense to look under botan clothes ... This is debatably on character. Thing is the only time yusuke touched a woman that wasn't Keiko in the manga, was when he groped Miyuki with "his special technique" but his point was making sure how hard he was going to hit miyuki, went all out when he realized that was a man. IMO if togashi wanted to make a yusuke that much of a pervert, he would have shown him lifting other girls skirts. In reality he seems to tease Keiko.
The anime ... kind of misses the point of the characters often. And let me tell you i HATE the blue imp.I really hate him. The manga gives us Atsuko going to the tournament and get wasted and scream drunken rants at his son during fights.
In the anime Atsuko never goes to the tournament, instead we get Jorge, the most unfunny, and uncalled for Koenma sidekick. he helped with conversations with koenma to understand the plot instead of a narrator. problem is. He started getting in the plot too much. And by the Dark Tournament he took over Atsuko position. Atsuko is a funny character. Jorge isn't. If they wanted exposition, Botan was right there to speak with Koenma during the Tournament, I hate Jorge (also known as George). I have more rants, Like certain weird love arc i HATED in the dark TOurnament, but i think you say enough about that in the other video
It's not that Koenma isn't a friend, he really isn't at the beginning. He really befriends Yusuke after chapter black. But that's much later in the story.
One of the more detailed responses on this series so far, thank you. I’ll probably keep some of these points in mind, in addition to releasing the third part of this series soon I’m planning on remastering everything into one full video this year
Koenma ❌
Koyama ✅
Great video, I'll have to read the manga too I guess
But do you really think a middle school delinquent deserves to go to Hell? I'm glad you aren't in charge of that
I personally dont agree with the whole what if analysis approach to fiction, i think the merit of the work should be determined based on what it is not be demerited for what it could have been or what you want it to be.
I think the only room for discussion when it comes to the what if analysis is when there plot holes/ contrivences, one dimensional vital characters.
This series is more breaking down and comparing the anime and manga than a 'what if video' or making any fan fiction, but cherry is a fiction boy writer at heart so that is just the angle
It's only a "what if" video if I'm adding content that does not already exist.
This series is about creating context not content.
