He's an amazing drummer indeed. Very old school; Lots of ghost notes, lots of grooves.. Too bad those toms are always super low in the mix on Maiden tracks. Those killer tom fills should be way more audible IMHO 🙂
How can you not admire the footwork of Nicko? I do play double bass now, but I learned everything maiden on a single pedal, when I was a kid I had an , 8,10,12,13,14,15,16&18 tom set up, a 22x16 bass and a 14x7 snare, I spent two years drumming to the maiden stuff, at the four hours five days a week. I loved it, maiden stuff is embedded in my memory when I'm behind the kit.
First Maiden show I went to (Manchester Apollo, '98, Virtual 11 Tour), we met Nicko and a friend travelling up from Euston. He is a lovely fella, got us backstage. We were 18 and very overawed, got autographs and left. As a drummer I wished I'd had a chat eith him after the show. We'd just met our heroes though! Never forget it.
ohhh myyy gaaaawD, i am LMAO, i hope Metallica and all Metallica fans read this (who are in total denial) bcz it's so true, better still, when are they going to fire him? if they can fire Dave Mustaine, which was the best thing that happened to Metallica and could have been greater with Mustain as a member, which they had no problem doing so hastily, what the fuck is the hold up in firing Lars, the worst thing that happened to Metallica by keeping him. 🤔🤣🤫
I've always wondered where in their songs he would change the ride. Now here's one example. After the first chorus the difference is clear. I was also surprised with the ghost notes on the snare!
This is way more than a galloping style (for sure there is also that precisely kind of feel) in my opinion and obviously also about the bass line . If I say correctly there is nuance and heavy swinging style , 'use of space' like i learned from others . I want to clarify the galloping groove is cool but there is also other to appreciate
@@TimothySchulting Eh I disagree about Nicko. In my opinion the way he drums is far better than Clive's, and Clive's was much more simple than Nicko's. Clive was great but Nicko brought the band to a whole new level.
@@nate-ds9tg Nope, Timothy Schulting was correct. Loose is not good for this type of music, tight and simple is. Sometimes McBrain sounds like he dropped his drums down the stairs. He could never get the tight punch you hear on Killers and Beast.
@@nate-ds9tg Heh, you don't see that all the time in YT comments sections, good going . I just think, look, Steve Harris is clattering around on those bass strings, he's not gonna look so straight on a waveform himself, so surely it's better to have a rock solid drummer with that, rather than a drummer who's also clattering around.
You'll take my life but I'll take yours too You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through So when you're waiting for the next attack You'd better stand there's no turning back The bugle sounds, the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horse's breath As I plunge on into certain death Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh The horse he sweats with fear we break to run The mighty roar of the Russian guns And as we race towards the human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And the Russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh We get so close, near enough to fight When a Russian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow A burst of rounds takes my horse below And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear I draw my parting groan Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Btw the other one song I'm learning is from the Beatles. Let it be I believe. Fun

Yes, I understand you. But I can not isolate tracks from the album record. And no one can do this. I can only mix those separate drum tracks that I have.
Listen I have the request for 3 songs. You do so many. Can you make them for me? I will make you a free donation, as much as you want. Up to a certain amount obviously.

Nicko is incredible. Amazing single bass footwork. His fills and grooves drive the song.
Yes, amazing groove on that foot, and they really do.

Really fast crisp doubles.
Its Nicko's footwork that got me shredding a single before moving to two kicks ❤️🔥
I like how he favors the ride over the hi hat in most songs, great sound and groove
Indeed and with Pat Travers band was the opposite for semplifying the question
Mcbrains right foot is inspiring
And he plays barefoot all the time. 😁🤘😁
awesome too hear it bare, what a foot that guy has!
No kidding, just gonna sell my kit 😀
His drumming is so fluid.
Nicko McBrian has been blessed with such a talent. Greetings from a Venezuelan brother
It’s interesting to hear it isolated. Makes it easy to hear that his energy is a little loose around the edges... Love ‘ol Nicko.

most underrated rock drummer EVER perhaps. Incredible amidexterity!
Agreed, I’d easily put him in my top 3
I have never heard of anyone thinking that Nicko isn't an excellent drummer.
That kick...
Those toms...
That everything...
so much fun to just improvise on and play with
Great job you can hear evry goust note and learn to play Great job
I really think that Lars can benefit from this video
😂 brilliant
URUSMAN that’s a sick burn. But yeah, I’ve believe so
lars is a paralitic on drums if you compared with nicko

What a load of B.S. - Metallica is Metallica because of Lars, each drummer brings their own personality and choices to the songs

Thanks for making the video portion the Audacity tracks. It's really fun to follow along the waveforms, and much more engaging than a slideshow.
Thanks for the feedback.
Nicko's ability to do some pretty tricky kick drum thing's with only a single kick....👍...
One of my favorite songs
I would love to hear some Clive Burr isolated. 👍👍
There are a few out there, Run to the Hills definitely
1:26 & 1:37 have to be 2 of my favorite fills in this song! However... there are legit so many!!!
And who with ANY musical appreciation would give this an unlike? 🙄
I don't want to be anywhere near Nicko's right foot. There's no double bass, just pure, raw chaos.
A great man at work..
Just getting back into bass after a year off, FUCK YES. I love this channel.

Those double kicks❤️
Mostly single foot triplets astonishing drumming
Nicko can do more with one Bass drum than most can do with a double

🤘🤘
Brazilian i Love drum nicko. Eu amo muito iron maiden. Gênio nicko
Do you know what "Up the Irons" originally meant?
im gonna have to make some simplifications to this lol
You can totally hear the Bonham influence in his playing. Lots of accents and a ton of groove!

Throws the entire band off

I don’t understand why in Martin’s mix you lose almost all those kick strokes
YES!

Unfortunately, I do not have any tracks for this song.
I have to play this for my grade 7 and ive nailed the kick after a lot of practise

Can you do the same for Stranger in a strange land and Where eagle dare ? It's awesome, dude
Unfortunately, no - I do not have such tracks.
How cool is that, can you show us how to do that? Have so many tracks for which i want the drums :D
This is a track from RB.
awesome
could you please do this for where eagles dare and caught somewhere in time?
Sorry, but I do not understand.
i'm asking if you could isolate the drums from the tracks where eagles dare and caught somewhere in time just like you did with the trooper here

How do you do that? Some kinda music program? Looks like something familiar, but can't think of the name.
