Patiently requesting Train segment + Freax uploads. They’re a dish best served together.
I just want more Isaac!!!
coming to mbt for yugioh is like going to farfas chat for insightful comments
It’s true and they are so racist for no reason
@kenpatchiramasama1076 yeah, so does MBT, what's your point
@kenpatchiramasama1076 "farfa viewer" is a slur
I predict at the current rate of Magic sets that exactly Nirvana High Paladin will be printed by 2026. At which point modern players will all hop for Yu-Gi-Oh when we will all be playing Tistina mirrors after a few pieces of insane support from an OCG set.
I feel so bad for Gagagigo. Dude literally lost an election to a horse, but at least this is now a new lore event for him
I played a regional in São Paulo a few weeks ago, it was hosted on the venue where we used to have nationals hosted, so we were expecting huge numbers, but in reality the event was so empty i accidently forgot the little notepad i used to write down the life points on my round 5 table, played round 6 in a far away table and the notepad WAS STILL THERE when i sat down in round 7
ai é triste meu irmão
it would be super funny if the community gets together and everyone gets their "I voted" lizardman pins/stickers done and use them. That would be real democracy
This stream was a roller coaster from beginning to end
I was one of the people who joined back during the COVID years from childhood and decided to stay away from paper because it is ALWAYS more expensive than even Duel Links at this point. I think it’s important to have your simulators be closer to free IF your prizing for the expensive formats is worth the price point of playing. Why would I hemorrhage my own wallet to have the same outcome as just queueing up master duel? I’ll keep playing, but just not paper
Even taking into consideration the idea of Nadu being a Commander-centric card, it was still obviously incredibly screwed up and game warping. It takes literally no testing to figure out that Lightning Greaves, a card played in 25% of decks in the format, is too good alongside Nadu.
#justiceforlizardman
Commander and it's consequences have been a disaster for Magic the Gathering.
Not gonna lie, it’s the best magic format
@@banettebrochacho5636 used to be anyway
@@banettebrochacho5636 It was fine before WOTC decided to make it a cash cow.
As a dedicated Commander player. Rest assured we also hate this shit. Whenever they design something with specifically Commander in mind it ends up being miserable to deal with.
So about the Nadu thing, MBT's postulating is kinda incorrect in some aspects. They didn't design Nadu from the get for Commander, but during their testing (which they do mention) they found that the initial design was doing nothing in Modern (which is fair, the original effect is like two bad versions of already existing cards on a mediocre body) and was only really noteworthy in Commander. So they switched it up to be a Commander-centered card so it at least could find a home somewhere, as opposed to nowhere. And you may think "Oh, why are they adding cards for Commander in 'MODERN Horizons'", which just completely miss they also design cards for Pauper and other formats as well. Like going up to MH3, Gavin (one of the lead designers) had mentioned there was a few neat Pauper cards in the set. And they knew this cause they keep multiple formats in mind for designing sets.
Now if you wanna talk about there being Commander Precons along Modern Horizons, that's just a different story altogether and is definitely a more reasonable criticism.
I think Gavin explicitly said that the set wasn't designed for pauper, hence why cranial ram was banned before release. Correct me if I'm wrong but he mentioned that mh3 was designed for modern and limited specifically. And I guess here we learn that designing for commander means more than playtesting for the format the set is named after 🙃
@@curtislacasse5196 That would be incorrect. They specifically made cards for Pauper. Like hell the only reason BR was the artifact archetype is pretty much cause that’s a pretty common pauper archetype. And even going into release they aware it could’ve been problematic, which is why it got banned as quick as it did.
Also as I said before, they *did* test for Modern. The initial Nadu design didn’t do good in their Modern testing so they pivoted it to be more Commander focused at the last minute.
I have no clue how a Christian said "look at the depravity in the streets" and didn't expect everyone in the metal scene to collectively say "Hell yeah!".
If you want to make Nadu a "Commander gets their equal attention cake", sure. Personally I think the bigger conversation should really be "stop making last-second changes", like if you can connect Magic, Elestrals, and Crowdstrike of all things there seems to be a more important conversation than alt formats
we hear about all the horrible last minute changes and none of the ones that cause no problems. patrick sullivan brought up that the best case for where they redesign the card but don't have time to test it is just to make it bad so it can't do anything consequential
@@violetto3219 Right, i think there’s something to be said that if the best case for this practice is that the result is a 3/10, it’s a bad practice.
The issue with Commander as a format is a very throny one, to say the least:
- Modern (and other older formats) have many players that are very content to keep their decks the way they are, with a new card once in a blue moon if at all.
- Standard, they have to walk on a tightrope to not go too strong or weak, lest they risk the format heavily tied to the public competitive face of the game be a shitshow.
- Commander, meanwhile, has players that are mostly content as long as you give them interesting cards and don't push the power level envelope too far.
Is it any wonder then, when you factor in it being so popular, that Commander gets so much attention? It's one of the safest bets and the place where the stranger designs can go, with a nice large audience to welcome them.
Modern Horizons is the Link Vrains Pack for the guy who still watches this for Yu-Gi-Oh
The funniest thing about Nadu is they also printed a card in the set that gives you unlimited bodies to go with its effect, springheart nantuko is basically 2 mana scute swarm
So, I think I'm going to comment on the segment that started around 25:40
In Konami's eyes, I don't think these problems are very large to them at all. Pros leave, events being run more often were probably expected to have a few worse turnouts, and people complain. Usually things just happen to turn around. They're honestly probably pretty happy with recent performance since it got people to move product to catch up with the meta. Some of the people most willing to buy product from source are also scalpers. An aggressive reprint policy only pisses those people off. You can't buy cheap and sell high if people have no reason to buy high.
You can't really expect them to be threatened by corporate decisions that don't hurt them because YGO players are so willing to purchase slop. Doomer posts like these are also pretty nonthreatening when there's not enough precedent to find an actual downward trend. If anything, the first thing they'd axe is just YCS in some regions or simply rollback the removal of the break. Cuz that event would be what's bleeding money to them, not anything in regard to the actual card game.
Blaming Commander is a scapegoat as much as I agree that Commander design is poisoning all card design. MtG has a history of 'late in process' changes that create an even stronger monster of a card. Source: Skullclamp.
Actually went to that Regional last year and it was so packed, now it looks more like the locals from last year.
I can't believe MBT Twitter Freax is how I learned about Meathook Massacre II.
Right Wing Christian Metal has got nothing on Rural Rap - its just so wholesome.
do you have any examples i'm so curious
Upchurch. Please don't ask how I know
Lizardman is awesome.
I would get my American citizenship and vote just to get the Lizard man sticker
digimon mentioned in chat GRAAAAAAAHH
If you want WOTC to stop printing Modern cards designed for EDH, then they should make a more engaging standard format. No way they stop making products that work well for the most popular format. That's where the money is.
No mention by MBT of the first card being Nemesis RED FLAG (the most obvious joke)
Freax and isaac you love to see it

JUSTICE FOR LIZARD MAN
The really unbelievable part of that Nadu post is that Cephalid Breakfast has been a top deck in legacy for such a long time... You know, a deck revolving around targeting an infinite number of times a Cephalid Illusionist with Nomad en-Kor or... Shuko to mill your whole deck and win.
Like on release of Nadu the first thing that was done was slightly adjusting the breakfast manabase and just rocking 4 nadu in the shell. Truly baffling..
I didn't even know there was a Houston regional and I live there
The main problem with snake eyes format is the price point imo. I'm not gonna spend an arm and a leg on a deck.
Sure, I can play a shit format as long as I can afford it. Hell, I played drytron VFD format and had a ton of fun, but that was because drytron was rather affordable.
Coming here to learn about the USA's culture
26:30 Bad format bad prices. I really hope that tcg players eventually realize that while table top games are expensive, you get the whole base game for less than $100 and the ENTIRE expansion for like $50. In terms of games in any format TCGs are such a scam only comparable to gotcha video games.
Family guy beautiful moments made me weep.
I was waiting on Ewekai Beasts to get into DL, and apparently that happened at some point so I'll probably pick it up now
As a commander player, I *hate* HATE HATE commander cards being printed in sets not about commander. Commander was more fun when we weren't spoonfed our cards.
Actually I hate any card at all being made for commander. I hate commander sets especially to be honest. Command tower and such are basically the only cards I like.
If I had a chance to be on the streams, I would be the 2nd guy there for ygo
I think part of the reason why attendance is dropping now compared to other awful formats like Gouki, is because there are more alternatives now. The options aren't just Magic, Pokemon, and Yugioh. We have One Piece, Digimon, Lorcana, Dragonball, and other up and coming TCG's to choose from now.
I've never even _played_ magic, and I could tell that nadu was busted to hell and back on first read
Part of the issue is that Wizards obviously feels pressed to not print cards that cause issues in Commander because Commander, as a format, is ungoverned by WotC and their rules committee is EXTREMELY hesitant to ban cards due to the intended self-governing nature of the format.
Just to note it came out in a Modern Horizons set, not Modern Masters. The last Modern Masters set was 7 and a half years ago back in 2017.
2017... was how long ago??
I think the drop in attendance is partially from the fact we got many new players from covid, and this is their first time dealing with something this bad of a format, and they just aren't here for it.
As a commander player: I despise cards “made for commander”. Draws all the fun out of the deckbuilding that makes the format fun. Ive gotten so sick of stuff like Smothering Tithe, Dockside, and Nadu that I only play mtg with my own personal commander draft cube now.
Im just so tired.
smothering tithe has just the most obnoxious play pattern. rhystic study isn't popular in commander because it's fun
HANG ON A FUCKING SECOND WHY IS THE MEME AT 8:40 USING A YURI MANGA SCREENGRAB.
I will never forgive commander players for skullclamp
This has to be bait skullclamp came out in 2004 in darksteel 💀
@@dootthethird the joke grazed your scalp so close that it left you with a reverse mohawk, you were so close to getting it.
@@ToxicAtom fair enough
Hes right about duel links though. Peak duel links was actually more fun than the standard game. Shame it sucks now
No playtesting at all? Reminds me of literally every hs card lmao
why is this up b4 the actual vod? i wanna hear the mtg rant

God I miss Marlon Webb
why is the screen cropped
I won't lie, I really like your content, but my jaw was on the floor when you were mocking Pokemon TCG for the $50 Stun winning worlds a few weeks after taking a $1,000 fiendsmith snakeeyes deck to nationals and just losing to stun / shifter
Damm, I did not know that being a casual commander player made me the MTG equivalent of a Neo-Nazi's Jewish stereotype
Seeing Cardfight fill a regionals in the same Houston venue more than YuGiOh is crazy
I love duel links, but the skills are just awful. The archetypal skills essentially auto-turbos your plays for you. The best generic skill rn is like Reload Lvl 5 which has a chance to fail and can't even be played in most decks.
Ün Ün Ün ÜN Ün
You’re a yugioh content creator?????
MBT's take on Commander is pretty bad, imo. It's true that EDH has gone downhill ever since WOTC started making cards aimed at it, and commander-focused cards generally aren't very interesting, but this article from WOTC was clearly throwing out some buzzwords like "Commander" and the real answer is "we changed some shit last second and didn't bother to playtest it and then it sold product so they weren't that upset. The reason to think this, by the way, is that MH1 and MH2, the previous modern horizons set, also had obviously broken stuff that would have been caught in 45 seconds of playtesting, and the fact that Wizards has printed an instantly bannable card at least once per year for the past 8. Hasbro is telling them to sell product and so Wizards is printing shit they know is broken because it sells packs.
36:51
It also summons Baron DeFleur
what kills duel links is the same shit that kills commander just that konami cares less about duel links so it doesn't sicker into every format ever. don't make the thing that does all the things for the thing that does the thing. the fun part is to figure out shit by yourself. it'S called creativity and companies hate it
Hey don't pin Nadu on commander players, we've been telling WotC to stop pushing every freaking Simic legendary. For once I want to see a Dimir commander card being the problem, why can't *we* have nice things
Dawg, before Nadu, hasn’t gotten a good Simic legendary since like Kinnan, what the fuck you mean?! Even the Commanders from the MH3 Commanders were dookie! Hell, even the first iteration of Nadu was meh *at best*!
That kid who drew lizard man is going to grow up to be a bara furry artist and he's going to make hundreds of dollars per piece
I think a big contributor to attendance dropping is people talking about how cheap Pokémon is alongside the better prizing and Lorcana and One Piece being huge hits that provide easily accessible alternative games for people who don't want to play Pokémon or Magic.
combined format following the master duel list and banlist structure. Make it all 1 fucking game already. Let duel links and rush duels be the alt formats.
There is no way anyone is buying that statement from the designer of Nadu. If they wanted to push a commander card, why release it in a modern set? Or conversely, why was modern horizons 3 and modern set? And even then, how did they not reconsider printing a card which is just shy of having a sign on it that says "I go infinite btw"?
All I'm asking for is for WotC to just start saying the quiet part out loud. It's getting boring hearing their excuses for bad release decisions rather than just saying they like the money commander brings in so printing increasingly pushed cards designed for commander is what they aim for.
Edit, and a bit of a tangent:
I don't know exactly if Joseph's stance is that this is the fault of commander players, but I disagree with that if it is. Commander players get given new toys in every set designed explicitly for them because WotC knows it'll make them money. It's not the fault of the players. This would be like (and pardon the analogy I'm about to make where I compare commander players to children) blaming a child that is spoiled rotten for being spoiled rotten rather than their parent that is bad at parenting. I find the whole concept of releasing slews of purpose-made commander-oriented products antithetical to the point of commander, which to me is supposed to be an expression of creativity using the massive database of existing material from the catalogue of MtG cards. Commander product stifles creativity because all of the thinking has been done for the players in advance. Nadu was designed to be broken with the lightest of thought. It's not fun to find out how Nadu can be used to great effect because it takes no mental effort to do so. It treats you like you're stupid for not seeing it in plain sight. And WotC pretend they're stupid enough to have not known either.
yo kinda drunk so idk if this is a hot take, but commander is the only mtg format worth playing, the game sucks in every other formst lmao
enough elestrals dude. you can play any other video game idc, but the ONLY card game that exists is yugioh
It’s on its own channel now
pokemon tcg? psyop. mtg? mass-implanted memories. lorcana? disney’s mind control virus at work.
