That is the most beautiful effing library I've ever seen! Also, I love how there was no music added to your footage. The video was quietly serene which was appropriate for the content. I felt I was in the library with you! Too surreal!
This Library is just Gorgeous and the Scenery is just beautiful. Wow - I would be spending all of my time in this very beautiful Library. You are lucky that you have this Beautiful Library near you that you can go to and just spend hours of Reading and doing Computer Stuff while you are looking out at the Beautiful Scenery. Happy Reading !
The part where you're running down the archive bit with all the wooden shelves reminded me of the opening scene of Ghostbusters where they are in the basement with the scary librarian ghost. Haha! John McCullough is such a great poet. I'm going to be staying here at the end of May. So this is a great taste of what I'm going to see. Thanks!
Wow, this is only just a skip and a jump from where I live and I never knew. Thank you so much Simon for being a regional tourism promoter as well as a most excellent booktuber. You do realise that man goes on book retreat to North Walian historic library + graveyard + Jaffa cakes is definitely a starting book for a whimsical modern gothic novel (if that is such a thing).
Just wanted to pop in and say, two days into watching your videos, and you're already one of my favourite UA-camrs. Also, thanks for sharing this! Now I know what I'm treating myself to for my next birthday.
Officially on the top of my dream travel list. My brother's been reading a biography of Gladstone that I bought him and he was telling me that Gladstone read an extraordinary amount
Apart from at meal times that was pretty much exactly what it was like. In part because it's quite but also as there is so much space for everyone staying.
Yay! This is exactly what I asked for in my 7K Q&A (that trips liltingly, doesn't it? Even better--7K 2 Way Q&A. Getting positively Suess-ish now). More Savidge Tours! Seriously, this was lovely. Thank you for sharing!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this authentic video! Thank you so much. If you don't mind, please do again. It's like my 'medicine' for I miss The UK, the literature, and its majestic libraries dearly. And hope you don't mind if I share this video on my facebook. Thanks again, Simon. :)
I've been a fan of your videos for a while now, but I had to comment -- you are taking my dream vacation! :D I'm a Canadian gal, but I've heard of Gladstones Library and am epically jealous that we don't have something similar here! It looks like you had a great reading retreat, thank you so much for sharing!
Wow, a library where you can stay! How awesome!! So do they have like the top authors you would find in a library and newest releases? Everything looked old and really interesting. Thank you so much for sharing this, it was wonderful.
A residential library is just the dream really isn't it Shelleen? They don't have very much new, some books by authors who have stayed there or been part of their literary festival. Mainly it's Gladstones personal library.
Well hot damn! That was fantastic. Gorgeous ( the Library 😁) spooky ( the Library ) and silly ( you). A yearly dose of that place would be a must! AND meeting up with dark and mysterious in the woods...ooo made me blush.
Hahaha. I'm going to start calling Chris my Dark and Mysterious. He will love that. Especially as I just call him Piggy generally. Hahaha. Affectionately.
Oh thank you so much for sharing this.! It was just beautiful. 👏👏👏 Now, had I understood this correctly; people are allowed to sleep in the library? I guess I'll check out your link now.
I would love it, if upon opening the evacuation door one would just get into the aisle of more books, kinda like "You can't escape books here! Muahahahaha!" Glad you had lovely time :)
I was thinking that when I die, I want to be buried in that cemetery! (Sorry, a bit of a dark comment.) That place is superb! Loved this video! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Simon, thank you for the video tour of Gladstones -- one can stay there? Sighhhh. Now on my bucket list. You asked previously what your viewers would like to see in your vlogs - more like this -- why yes please. Your wonderful book conversations occasionally interspersed with peeks into British libraries, bookstores, book events etc. A tour of your new library when finished may rival Gladstones. We have nothing to compare to Gladstones here - but you should know the Jelly Belly factory is only across the Bay Bridge www.jellybelly.com/california-factory-tours. N.B. Your bus & traffic scenes, I gasp before adjusting to right-hand drivers. Yikes. Thought you were a goner there for a minute.
Glad that you enjoyed it. There will be more things that are coming like this. More bookish snippets and some none bookish snippets too. I'm very jealous of the Jelly Belly.
This looks amazing - my idea of heaven! Seriously thinking of going, I love the idea of a reading retreat. Was it full of people writing and studying or were there other readers too? Also, were there other people on their own, and was it single person friendly? (By which I mean, not getting strange looks for eating dinner alone). This looks like just what I need (living in a London flat with noisy neighbours makes me crave silence and me time).
I think reading retreats should be more of a thing. There were people about writing and reading. It wasn't busy though, just really nice. Definitely single person friendly, I went on my own.
SavidgeReads cool! i keep meaning to learn more about modern British history, it's so entangled with Irish history, but we obviously learned about it from "our side" ya know? I'd actually kill for a jaffa cake right now, but I'm trying to be good...grapes it is 😭
That is the most beautiful effing library I've ever seen! Also, I love how there was no music added to your footage. The video was quietly serene which was appropriate for the content. I felt I was in the library with you! Too surreal!
I did think about music. I almost added some and then I thought 'hang on... it's a library'. Glad you felt you were there too.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking us along with you! This was splendid, Simon!
An absolute pleasure Jennelyn, I'll take you on some more trips over the next few months with me.
I didn't know such a glorious place existed! Looks like you made the most of it, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
It was wonderful Georgina.
What a magnificent library it is!!!!!You are lucky to go there!!!!
I was very lucky indeed.
The library looks stunning! Now to convince my boyfriend to change our holiday plans to go here instead...
Or just take yourself on a little holiday Susan.
I could walk all across England. It looks so beautiful and peaceful!!! I'm sure you had a wonderful time, the library was glorious.
It has some beautiful, beautiful parts Jennifer.
Oh it's not that near Linda. Though once I'm driving it's about 25 mins away. Hooray.
SavidgeReads - oh okay - 25 minutes is not that bad. How long did it take you to get to the Library this time.
Thanks!
Hahaha. I hadn't thought of that Eric. Maybe that's why I was feeling slightly spooked. Hope you enjoy your trip next month.
That was just amazing. Food for the soul and a feast for the eyes. xx
So glad that you enjoyed it.
Thank you Simon. Such a pleasure to experience this.
Glad you could come along with me Josh.
It's absolutely beautiful, what a lovely place! Thank you for sharing it with us.
A pleasure. I'm so thrilled that so many people have enjoyed this video.

A pleasure. I'm thrilled so many people have enjoyed it.
Well this is even more delightful than I had first imagined! 😍😍😍📚📚📚
I think it could be an ideal place for an autumnal getaway with friends. Coughs loudly.
What a lovely place! Thank you for sharing it with us!
A pleasure Nancy Drew
Oh, Simon!!! This is so awesome!! Thank you for bringing us on this tour. Oh my goodness...I have to get to the U.K.!! And stay at Gladstone's!
That's great to hear Linda. I wasn't sure with it being such a quiet trip how much people would love it. Glad you did. Hope you visit.
so cool, uh color me green with envy.I loved every bit of this video!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful place with us!!
+
A pleasure Kathleen thanks so much for joining me.
I NEED this retreat in my life! Wow, looks amazing. Hope you have just the most relaxing reading time!
I did. It was absolutely wonderful Laura.
Hello Simon, thank you for the perfect vlog for a cold, rainy night in San Francisco; I enjoyed every moment. - Judd
Oooh I wish I was in San Francisco. I've always wanted to go. Even in the rain.
Thank you so much Simon for taking us with you. What an amazing place!!! I thought your beard was looking long. You grizzly bear you. 🐻😄
Hahaha. I do have the nickname Bear with certain folk Daeron, ha.
Hahahaha. Glad that you found out about it Catherine. I would love to be that start of a gothic novel. I could happily live in one of those.
That library looks amazing!!! So jealous!
Just wanted to pop in and say, two days into watching your videos, and you're already one of my favourite UA-camrs. Also, thanks for sharing this! Now I know what I'm treating myself to for my next birthday.
Awww that means so much Elle. Thank you very much. I hope you get to go. I want to go back in the autumn when it's deliciously gothic.
Awesome library, darling town, amazing ruins! Loved this video a lot! Keep up the great work!
Thank you Lisa-Marie. I was a bit nervous as I'm still learning vlogging and am not as tech savvy as I would like to be with it.
Loved every second of this video! Please do more like this! What an amazing place!
You'll have a trip around London soon. And also I'll be vlogging my weekend in Kent with Lauren and David.
Officially on the top of my dream travel list. My brother's been reading a biography of Gladstone that I bought him and he was telling me that Gladstone read an extraordinary amount
He did! He was known to read two or three books a day. There are some of his notes in many of the books.
Wow that is stunning, thank you for sharing your trip. Looking that up now.
I hope you manage to visit Diana.
Thank you for showing me such an amazing place! It looks like something out of a BBC series about a bygone era.
It's interestingly, as I discovered on a tour I didn't film, not as old as it looks.
Thanks Simon. After watching your video we decided to go to the library and spent the Easter weekend.
Oh marvellous. Have you been there this weekend then? Have you had the best of times?
SavidgeReads Yes! Spending time in such a beautiful library is simply amazing.
It was amazing how it seemed you were the only one there the entire time. Must have been fantastic !
Hahaha. Savidge Tours. There is a new series waiting to happen right there.
Haecceity Reads Brilliant title! Savidge Tours!
SavidgeReads It has a ring, doesn't it? We could get t-shirts. You could take us to Highgate....
Savidge Reads ~~ Savidge Tours ~~ Savidge Shops ~~ Savidge Walks
I feel like I just went on holiday. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Hahahaha. If only watching a video could give you all the unwinding of a holiday.
loved this! what a gorgeous library and that view was so pretty.
It is in a wonderful bit of the world. I really like Flintshire.
That looks amazing! Why did I not know about reading retreats before? That's something I need in my life.
I don't know if they are an official thing but I plan on making them one. Hahaha.
Awww thank you. I'll be taking you all on some more trips very please. Share away!
Hahahaha!!! "Oh no I should've worn my flats!!" So good! Oh man my cats are freaking out by the bird sounds...lol
Glad you laughed. Apologies too the cats. Mine freak out with nature shows on the telly so I understand.
Awww thanks for commenting Miz, I love a chat in the comments. Glad you enjoyed visiting Gladstones with me.
I love everything about this.
Good, I'm thrilled.
The Library!! *heart explodes in envy*
Stunning isn't it!
Thank you so much for sharing this! It looks amazing and I loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it Patricia.
Ahhhhh That library is amazing. Great vlog!!
Thank you!
I can't believe such a place even exists! I know where my next UK holiday is going to be! great video again
Awww cheers. Hope you get to visit it. Report back when you do.
Thank you for sharing - I loved this! I love these kinds of vlogs. Little pockets of England. I love them.
It's nice to share some lesser known parts of the country Bettie, though my next one will probably be my trip to London.
yeah, I'll eat that up, too. ;)
Little corner of Wales, actually
One day when I visit the UK I will be going to this magnificent place! Looks like you had such a lovely and relaxing time :)
I hope you do and I hope you have a wonderful time.
Oh my! Added to the things I wanna see when I get to the UK. ❤
Oh I hope you get to visit it.
Mainly it's Gladstones personal library.
how lovely ! you and the library x
The library is AMAZING isn't it Deb?
so beautiful, it looks like Hogwarts for books.x
Well hot damn! That was fantastic. Gorgeous ( the Library 😁) spooky ( the Library ) and silly ( you).
A yearly dose of that place would be a must!
AND meeting up with dark and mysterious in the woods...ooo made me blush.
Hahaha. I'm going to start calling Chris my Dark and Mysterious. He will love that. Especially as I just call him Piggy generally. Hahaha. Affectionately.
How did you ever leave? :) thank you for sharing this lovely vlog!
Oh I didn't want to leave Andrea. I sulked all the way home.
Well this has been added to my bucket list!
It is honestly so worth going. They haven't paid me to say that either. Ha. I just loved it. Will be going back often.
Added this to my bucket list.
Stunning isn't it Tracey?
omg !!!! wow wow what beautiful place . book worms paradise

It's a wonderful wonderful place indeed.
And then shamefully didn't film the amazing one I had.
that looks ace! I'd love to go there on my own and just chill
You should Judith!
Oh thank you so much for sharing this.! It was just beautiful. 👏👏👏 Now, had I understood this correctly; people are allowed to sleep in the library? I guess I'll check out your link now.
No need to answer that question of staying there. Now I have to see if I can afford it flying over from the States. Thank you for the link.
I have to go there!!!
I hope you do Britta. It's not actually far from me so do let me know if you ever do.
As a a UK 13yr old I who loves reading really want to go!!!
I would love it, if upon opening the evacuation door one would just get into the aisle of more books, kinda like "You can't escape books here! Muahahahaha!"
Glad you had lovely time :)
Hahaha. There are books behind that door. But they are very rare. So rare you have to make an appointment to see them.
I was thinking that when I die, I want to be buried in that cemetery! (Sorry, a bit of a dark comment.) That place is superb! Loved this video! Thank you for sharing this with us.
I'm still hoping to be buried in Highgate Cemetery that's my aim.
Oh WOW! I just looked up Highgate Cemetery. It is so beautiful! Don't blame you for making that your aim.
Jesus! Just found your channel! It's great.
Awwww thank you very much.
This place looks amazing! I wish I could stay there.
Something to add to the bucket list maybe Erin?
Yes, definitely!
I just got the muse from the library! I am starting it as soon as I finish a brief history of seven killings :)
Oooh I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
SavidgeReads I haven't started yet, but I am really looking forward to it
New subscriber here and what a video to start with 😍 looks fantastic and will be adding it to my bucket list!
Oh thanks for subscribing Natasha, hope you enjoy my other videos as much.
looks amazing
It was.
a reading retreat? Is that actually a thing? Is it arranged like that? Brilliant idea! So tranquil x
It used more as a writers retreat than anything but perfect to just go and read in as I did.
Wow, I could see myself living in a place like that!
Me too. I could move in now.
oh Simon, I wish you were my neighbour so we could go get a scone together. What a magnificent library and place to stay.
It might be lethal though as we could end up having several scones a day.
And the problem with that is.....? 😉
Absolutely gorgeous. I would love to live there.
Try and visit at some point Kathy.
Gorgeous!
It's an incredible place Jane.
Simon, thank you for the video tour of Gladstones -- one can stay there? Sighhhh. Now on my bucket list.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
very good sir

They had a last minute cancellation in May so I've just booked it. Very exciting!
I think reading retreats should be more of a thing. There were people about writing and reading. It wasn't busy though, just really nice. Definitely single person friendly, I went on my own.
Oh hooray, report back.
This isn't too terribly far from where I am when I'm in uni... oh the temptation is real...
Then you must go. You must. I might treat myself to it a few times a year it's only an hour or so from my house. Once I drove it'll be 25 mins.
Brilliant video! 💙x can't beat a library
Thanks very much Sally.
used it belong to the Gladstone who was PM of Britain?? :)
jaffa cakes are the ideal reading snack. so are grapes! so tasty and refreshing :)
Yes. The Prime Minister Gladstone. It seemed he was a wonderful man. Jaffa Cakes beat grapes for me. Hahaha.
SavidgeReads cool! i keep meaning to learn more about modern British history, it's so entangled with Irish history, but we obviously learned about it from "our side" ya know?
I'd actually kill for a jaffa cake right now, but I'm trying to be good...grapes it is 😭
i loooooooove it thank you so much for sharing this
Oh my! :O Love it. :)
Glad you enjoyed it Emmy.
Oh my God I would live there!!!! In between the shelves lol
I was trying to find secret hidden rooms I could hide away in at night so I could move in, I won't lie.
This looks like heaven and I am the most jealous I have ever been of a stranger, oh Mylanta.
It was pretty heavenly.
errr....Jealous! :) That stiletto sign!! Hilarious! x
There was another one a few fields along that told you to Beware Mad Cows. Ha.
Bliss!
Wow!
Incredible isn't it Jayne Catherine.
Wait who fed the cats, and played moonlight sonata for the catcus
My delightful man sorted it all out.
You just filmed my dream holiday. Or dream life, to be exact.
But it isn't a dream Lotta. It's real, you should treat yourself one day. I'll definitely be going back.
2:05 Gryffindor common room
The whole place has quite the Potter feel about it.
UM.... LUCKY!
Very. I'm going to treat myself to two weekends a year there I think.
Is it an actually reading retreat or do you call it that? because the concept of a reading retreat is fascinating.
In my day we didn't need a permit.
No one checked if we had one but were told to carry one in case.
I you sure you didn't die and go to heaven??? 😇
I think that might be what heaven would look like, for me anyway.
