It was soooooooooo loooooovely to see you and meet IRL, FINALLY! What a lovely evening, how rude of them to close so we couldn't talk longer! Sorry for the very delayed reply, it has been a whirlwind since I saw you, I have barely been home but now home for a whole week, woohoo. I hope you enjoy all the books, especially the Megan Nolan, I met her last week and she was soooooooo lovely. I need to read her first novel. I looked Cleopatra and Frankenstein. Let's not leave meeting up soooo long again. Love the book buying whilst hoovering hahaha.
Omg I know, what a silly story about the hoovering. It was such a fab evening 😊 we will definitely repeat if work brings you here again or if I'm near Lpool 😊 Glad you've got a bit of quieter time now, enjoy it xx
Ahh, lovely that you and Simon finally managed to meet in real life after being friends for so long. That must have been really special!! My husband loves The rivers of London series, he says they are very funny and easy to read. I haven't read any of them yet. I hope you do enjoy them after your accidental purchase...so funny! 😂
I hadn’t realized you and Simon had never met before, sounds like a lovely bookish evening! I think your idea of rereading the first in the Thomas Cromwell trilogy and then reading the third sounds a good one. I reread the first two right before the third came out and it worked really well, especially for keeping everyone straight! Middlemarch is wonderful so if you end up liking Mill on the Floss, I’m happy to reread it with you!
The Mill on the Floss is also one I have waiting for me on my shelf and looks very promising. And I think buddy reading a chunky book with a friend and discussing is a very good way to get through it! It's so nice when you get to meet an online friend in person for the first time, especially when it's been years of friendship! I have heard very good things about ordinary feelings and birnam wood. And I do want to give birnam wood a try at some point too. Buying an audiobook with your ear and not even by credit 😭😭😂😂 Both hilarious and the most accidental purchase ever!!
I know, you couldn't do it if you tried on purpose 😂 Yes it's so brilliant meeting booktube friends IRL. I've met several now, even two from America! Yes mill on the floss won't stay on my tbr for long due to the buddy read plan 😊
I really enjoyed Rivers of London. I think I read the first few physically and then a couple on audio and I think the narrator is really well matched to the narrative voice. That first book is very enjoyable, I hope you like it despite buying it by accident for real money (super annoying when you have credits to spend). Enjoyed this haul, Simon gave you some great books. 😊
Thanks Alice 🥰 I'm sure I'll enjoy rivers of London after everyone's positive comments. I also liked the narrator, he narrated one of the Dickens that I listened to last year as well.
OMG I can't believe you're friends with Simon Savidge! How did I not know that?! That's so cool!!! (Also Weyward is on my summer book bingo list - it looks fab!). LOL the accidental £7.99 🤣 - ok even if you don't end up liking Rivers of London as a story, I feel like you'll at least love the main character - I fancy him like he's a real person 🤣❤. xx
You're so funny 😂 I added it to my wishlist because of you 😊 Yeh he's the reason I started booktube. He's just as lovely in real life. We laughed so much, it was brilliant xx
Weyward is great book. Looks like you got some brilliant books ❤ I hope you love everything as you get to it. Haha re the accidental audiobook purchase 😂😂
You should read The Mirror and The Light, its magnificent, but if you want a standalone Mantel too I really enjoyed Beyond Black, its really funny. Ive heard good things abot her non-fiction too, and she wrote a great article about how she tries to get everyone to read the cazalet chronicles so I respect that 😂You could read all of George Elliot and save Middlemarch for last, that would be a fun way to do it! Rivers of London is great! I
I don't know why I didn't just read it when it came out. Oh she'll definitely be in your good books if she wrote about the cazalet chronicles 😊 this makes me realise that I still haven't read the first one, or any of the books I bought on my London trip on October!! 🙈🙈 Have you read all of Eliot? I'm encouraged that you like rivers of London.
@@YourTrueShelf One good thing about The Mirror and the Light is that it has a lot of flashbacks, so you kinda don't need to reread the first two. I've only read middlemarch but I rank it as one of the best ever classics, I feel like her other stuff won't live up to it. I will buddy read the first cazalet book with you later in the year if you want, or you should make Jo read it too because I think you would both like it.
@@AaronReadABook that's good to know re the mirror and the light - saves me a lot of time 😂 Wow, an amazingly strong rec for middlemarch!! Maybe me you and Jo could all read cazalet together?? Jo if you see this let us know!

That's the best book buying story ever! I've heard good things about that book, though, so maybe it will be a happy surprise.
Haha thank you - and yes I hope so 🥰
