If only more 'Hollywood' martial-arts flicks were actually South African...
Hey Brandon 🤘😜🤘
There’s a Godzilla vs Kong movie rip off Ape vs Monster
@@gerardorodriguez7500 ohh GOD it's soooo BAD 🤘😜🤘
Try "Kill and Kill Again.."
Sup bro
All of Johannesburg was Kung-Fu fighting!
Those Boers were fast as lightning!
You know one day I want to see Brandon cover Turbo Kidd
The movie sounds like something Brandon would do.
Hello
The Synthwave soundtrack was amazing though
Turbo kid isn’t a weird movie though
I mean it’s interesting but not weird
Cougar you watch Brandon tenold
After this flop, Danie Du Plessis (Chico) changed his name to Peter Dinklage and lived happily ever after
"I could totally do that but I don't wanna" - the timing and delivery made this line.
Me, a South African fan of this channel: Wait we did a what in the 70s?!
Making a Nahzee and Japanese Fighting Tournament isn't common?
People tend to misjudge us South Africans, especially when they think they know what it was like, is like now.
don't know any of these actors, but we have had some actors who made it far in the movie industry.
@@KrugerFS Sharlto Copely.
@@howdoyoudo5949 yeah, but he stole my name for district 9 :P
@@KrugerFS There are literally only two other movies I know of with South African actors - Space Mutiny and Banana Splits
"...no sexy nuns in this movie"
Que Brandon's browser history!
Somethings mortal man was not meant to know.
There's an entire 'sploitation genre JUST dedicated to nuns? Religious... sort of. :P
Review Sinful Nuns of St Valentine!
Hey sexy nuns are awesome, and about half of the reason protestant sects of Christianity, if my suspicions are correct.
@@pontiusporcius8430 well, if i remember Martin Luther did marry a former nun. So, that theory is plausible.
The lead actor James Ryan was also in Space Mutiny. He was the guy with the cane!
Oh SNAP..
Good eye
Just think--Ryan's turn as MacPhearson, straddling a nerd and fatally stabbing him with his cane, then sitting helpless in a trench as Reb Brown torches him, is probably his most nuanced performance. _"Are there any other of you? That wish to confuse! Freedom! With treason?"_
Somebody really needs to get on making Leprechaun in Shaolin. I vote for the guy who did The Raid Redemption
Brandon: Throw in some sexy nuns
Brandon: There are no sexy nuns
Why you gotta do us dirty Brandon?
Fans of MST3K/RiffTrax might recognize James Ryan as the same actor that played MacPhearson in Space Mutiny
...holy shit, how did I not notice that!? O_O
Oddly, they don't mention that AT ALL in their riffs of this and Kill Again.
That's where I recognize him, thank you!
I knew he looked familiar.
Holy shit I thought it was him!!. Jeez, this film must have been the pinnacle of his career.
How did they make Jack Nicholson look like a dwarf? That's some seriously good effects for a 70's movie.
Seems the Tall Man shrunk him down.
Film him from high angles and next to really tall actors.

(It's Gary Oldman instead of Jack Nicholson, but that's as close as it gets.)
I loved this movie as a kid back in the 80’s. I rewatched it 2 months ago and thought “what was wrong with me?”
I've done the same thing with stuff I watched as a kid and loved. I look back now and think the same thing.
Teenage mutant Ninja turtles 2 the secret of the ooze
So, I'm not the only one!!
If it helps, i saw Mega Force in the theaters when it came out and was entertained as a kid
I hope there's "Kill And Kill Again" review in the offing.
For real, though? I think Leprechaun In Shaolin is the best idea for a movie I've heard in a looooong time.
As a certain flower said...”In this world it’s KILLED OR BE KILLED!”
"Chico, go out there and find me the best martial artists in the world".
Chico: *goes to a junk yard in the arse-end of nowhere*
"I could totally do that but I don't wanna". had me laughing so damn hard.
"When I decided to work for a nazi, I had no idea he'd be so strict!" I spit my soda back into the bottle when I heard this
"So what do we get for winning this International Karate Tournament?"
"Anything you want that I have."
"Sir, I am not interested in your Nazi paraphernalia."
"..."
"..."
"I have this sick ass bayonet."
"DEAL!"
Personally id want a Tiger tank if i won.
@@juiceter3981 Technically, you could ask for the first aircraft carrier, but considering that it was almost never operational, you'd be buying something that hardly would have any value. :P
I would have chosen his Nazimobile. Because hey, authentic Nazimobile.
Not asking for the secret nazi gold or art?
You tripping boi
"Keep practicing, Steve. You'll be able to whistle someday."
It's probably a mystical Dim Mak (Death Touch) technique? :P
The line that earned my like?...”I could totally do that but I don’t wanna.” 🤣🤣🤣
You’re the greatest Canadian cult movie reviewer ever Brandon!!!!
I think Brandon is world class
The last time you did a movie about Japan and Nazi Germany, it was Frankenstein Conquers the World! Just imagine how much more weird and surreal this movie could have been if they'd written Baragon into it!
Baragon is one of the coolest monsters ever. Not the puppy dog GMK one, but the FCTW one.
@@toughbutsweet1 they are both cute puppy dogs. The original one just looks goofier
Not only is Baragon so awesome, it originally was merchandise driven, with both a manga and a novelisation in tow!
Chico was the MVP of this story.
The true hero!
He later moved to Westeros and changed his name to Tyrion.
4:15 I can't believe you missed the joke "He's got his quirks, but overall I'd say he's all Reich."
"Screw it! Throw some sexy nuns in there too... There is no sexy nuns in this movie. Unfrortunately." - Why must you hurt me in this way?
The only thing that kept me from a black belt was that I never mastered the ring-modulated echo scream. I was stuck on flange for months.
You may have succeeded if you chose Whammy Bar Style.
8:39 had me thinking of that Trololo meme from almost a decade ago and apparently that recording was around a year BEFORE this movie came out. Like they were accidentally referencing it with that weird song
You are tragically underrated. Those WWII references are 🔥🔥🔥
OK, now I want to see Leprechaun in Shaolin. Stephen Chow directing and Warwick Davis backflipping his way out of trouble. Sounds like its right up my alley :)
“Man why did decided to work for a Nazi? I had no idea he’d be so strict!” 😂
"Awww guns, my only weakness!" LOL!!!
Back in the 80s, this movie and Kill and Kill Again were on cable all the time. I loved them because karate, and because my mom hated the titles. Good times!
“Who the hell invited Richard Ramirez?” 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Quick factoid: Herbie the love bug became Herpe the love bug after Lindsay Lohan drove him
Tackling a South African movie makes me want to see him take on one of the weird Nigerian or "Nollywood" movies. There's a Nigerian Spider-Man movie I saw clips of at a convention a few years ago. It featured a BAD CGU Spider-Man and I just can't remember the name of it. I remember the panel host saying "still better than Amazing Spider-Man 2."
To be honest, being better than Amazing Spider-Man 2 is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
One of my favorite cult movies. I was hoping you'd get to it someday.
I don't believe this film ever got a legitimate region 1 DVD release. It was released on VHS back in the day, and it was released on region 2 DVD under the name "Karate Killer".
Considering it's an SA made film, I'm not surprised that it was an obscure movie. Then again, several movies you'd never thought was made in SA is also pretty well known (the Karl Urban Dredd movie, the killer lion movie starring Megan Fox, an entry in both the Tremors movie series and Death Race movie series, some parts of The Brothers Grimsby, to name just a few). :/
Scorpion Releasing ended up releasing this on Blu-Ray, allegedly using the last surviving theatrical print. Dunno if there's a DVD release. (There's also a DVD and Blu-Ray for Kill Again.)
@@JBarg25 Thanks! I didn't know about the Blu-ray release. It looks like it came out just last year.
“I thought maybe you’d become one of the good n@zis”
Yeah like von Stroheim
What's kinda amazing is how that crazy cyborg SoB would almost seem normal in this movie.
And Oskar Schindler
albert goring (i guess not technically a nazi?) (he saved jews and then got away with it because of who his brother was)
DID YOU JUST MENTION PEAK
Fun fact: Chico did the motion capture for the little guys in the NES Kung Fu game
6:15 The Precious Candy Crush Diamond. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ninja Sex Party needs to do a cover of "Against The Ninja" and the video is just Ninja Brian fighting a bunch of martial arts cult movie and b-movie villains all at once.
And the 'final boss' (so to speak) is Sho'nuff!
B list Sean Connery and Peter Dinklage, I'm intrigued.
I don't know what I find more remarkable the fact I've never heard of this movie or the fact that this movie has a sequel. This is definitely the kind of movie they would put on in the afternoon back in the '80s on a Saturday or Sunday.
Love that you added the Last Dragon song on the intro part.
"I can totally do that, but I don't wanna" best line ever!!
16:07 There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, ‘There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.’ You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird.
YES!
One of the greatest...if not THE greatest Doctor Who episode of all time.
I love the 12th Doctor.
I saw this movie when I was a kid, it was in cable at my aunts house. I had to be like 8yrs old? I’ve spent the last 37ish yrs trying to figure out the title of their movie. The only thing I remembered was a martial arts team, and the black dude holding back the helicopter blades. I stumbled upon this movie by accident about 6-7 mos ago. And my mystery was solved.
Saw this once on TV in the early 80s during one of the local station's "Kung Fu Theater" Saturday afternoon slot. But the scene in which they turned the escape vehicle into a sail-buggy was the ONLY thing I could remember about it. Couldn't even remember the name.
That scene would bubble up into my memory without any reason over the decades. Even more than one of the other "Random scenes from forgotten Kung Fu movies" that has haunted me throughout the ages.
Anyone remember a movie where the main character gets poisoned and his mentor/trainer has to collect young boys' piss to heal him? (- Which is NOT the weirdest Chinese boy piss item ... I DARE you to look up the "delicacy" tong zi dan -)
Those are great with a little Frank's Red Hot splashed on 'em!
Wait was that kung fu theater with Charlie lum?!? Because yes I do remember that story about pee saving some guy from poison! I thought I made that shit up!
Never sure how I feel when I’ve watched these movies unironically before Brandon or RLM.
That last part where the guy smashed his head on the guitar.
I was like....what the hell did you do that for?
That’s why like many others, that clip was reserved for the honored, ‘..last words..’ very end moment of the review, a movie’s most crazy seconds long footage of it’s entire feature put in it’s place for the channel’s tradition to outline in the very end, the main point made in the review.😆
7:40
Perfect spot for that Bart Simpson reference. I use it frequently, myself.
Thanks for the hard work you do to make these videos really enjoy watching your reviews keep them coming
This Mortal Kombat adaptation is insane.
They should've made a sequel focused around Chico. He's the only interesting character here.
Love the Riff of this the Rifftrax's guys did
Starting with a Last Dragon reference? (Subscribed)
I feel like the writer of this must have inspired the writer of the Tekken movie. Further this feels like a writer had a piss poor idea for a drama and decided it would be better if it were a 'martial arts movie'.
Slice-of-Life Martial Arts.
Well it certainly had more to do with this movie than any of the Tekken video games
i don’t think tekken was that bad, doa was way worse imo
A perfect little gift for me while I wait to not be sick.. man! Your timing is on point.
I didn't realize how much I wanted Ninja Nazi Nuns... until now.
The closest we can get you to that, is if Hollywood did an female reboot of American Ninja? :P
I love your reviews Brandon. But I gotta ask. What's the name of your outro music?
It's just too damn good sounding.
I honestly believe Brandon when he said there be sexy nuns in a movie that's named Kill or be Killed.
I’m still hoping for an Ice Pirates review, he’s teased me so many times hahaha.
that projected font into the body actually really genius idea, might steal it for future project
"I was kinda hoping there would be a Wawa out here."
Pointing, "I get that reference!"
Almost like a Turkish version of 'Enter the Dragon'. And yeah, I would love to see a martial arts film with Peter Dinklage as the main star. ;)
I keep waiting for Steve to grab a mic to sing Don't Stop Believin'.
Terrific video on a classic martial arts movie from my childhood! However, Ivan Hall's best known movie would actually be the sequel KILL AND KILL AGAIN, starring James Ryan in a different role. That film (filmed in 1980 and released in the USA in 1981) would go on to be a bigger hit and play HBO and cable TV for eons. I really hope you do a video for the sequel as it is a better (and more fun ) martial flick!!
But Brandon, don't you know?
Everybody in Uganda knows Kung Fu, of course they'd travel for the chance to land a role here!
YEAH, i was looking for this comment.
9:30 Judging by that girl's reflection in the mirror, she is completely unfazed by the guy karate chopping his way through the front door.
this is probably the first time i've seen a new video from you, Brandon. all the notifications i get from you are all 3-6 years old. i know there's a time zone difference between us but DAMN!
7:39 'I could totally do that but I don't wanna'
Brandon, I'm surprised you didn't show the best, if not, the funniest moment in Kill or Be Killed. Rudolph henchman, (dude in the red shirt) karate kicks the sh*t out of a piano!!
Thank you again for covering this movie. Like I said before, this was a favorite of my father's when I was growing up.
Lol...now you've inadvertently given me an idea for a movie!
SHAOLIN LEPRECHAUN!
"Hard to beat a man who comes with his own sound effects." Beyond brilliant.
It looks like Chico was the actual star of the movie.
All through this episode, I was reminded of "Kill and Kill Again" ... which I'd seen on cable many times during the early 80's.
I'm looking very Very VERY FORWARD to seeing your video on that one.
Hope you're doing well...
"Nothings ever gonna keep you down-"
"YEAHT!"
"Aggght aggght aggght aggght aggght!!!"
Wow I remember seeing this in 1980 In the theater, I didn't know it was made in 76.
I...forgot...this...friggin...movie...EVER EXISTED! Thanks for taking me back to my childhood, Brandon! HAHAHA! I remember breaking my mom's sofa while trying to reenact one of the fight scenes. I don't remember much after that.
Laughing in two different ways. I'm such a fine wine I actually saw this "movie" at the El Rancho Drive-In on a double bill with Meatcleaver Massacre starring Chris Lee. Thanks for filling in the gaps haw! :)
Wow, I've seen some crazy martial arts movies, both ones I've seen and seen reviewed, but damn, this one looks really crazy. Gonna need to keep an eye out on this one and its sequel. Great episode man.
Great review, although that last stinger with the guy smashing the guitar with his head caught me COMPLETELY off guard!😆😂
Oh man, this was a great Rifftrax. Glad to see it on this show! Hope you do the sequel
Kinda wish James Ryan did more movies; he doesn't even throw a punch in Space Mutiny.
I was expecting Miami Connection and I was happy to receive it
Jekyll and Hyde Together Again. Perfect movie for you to review. Ypu will have people in stitches!!!
YES! love this movie with a passion! I have it on disc and watch it from time to time. And it never, ever gets old.. I miss you, Mark Blankfield..
Actually, it was this movie’s sequel that I was thinking of. Kill and kill again.
🍿
18:01 Seems that thing from the basement in House By The Cemetery got loose.
The guy that the lead keeps fighting with was the unstoppable killer than only Chuck Norris could kill in "Silent Rage" (1982).
I think this is the birth of a brand new film genre: Springbok-sploitation.
And the welcome return of SHO'NUFF!!!
This ran continuously on HBO and my brother friends & me loved it. The sequel kill & kill again as well. I went down rabbit hole and found contact for James Ryan and had some correspondence with him. Super nice guy, signed my movie poster & even sent me some promos from movie.
Amazing videos hope to see a review of Death Ship or Ghost Ship in the future.
The main character is played by James Ryan, aka McPherson from Space Mutiny
Instant respect the second that The Last Dragon song came on that you used to liven up the opening credits!!!! Love it!
My best friend and I saw this in a theatre when it came out in 1980! I had no idea it was from South Africa. Although "Shang-Chi" in the "MASTER OF KUNG FU" comic, as drawn by Paul Gulacy, eventually was modelled on Bruce Lee, the way most of the other artists (and even Gulacy himself, early-on) drew him, he looked more native American. My friend and I both thought JAMES RYAN would have been PERFECT to play Shang-Chi if they'd ever done a MOKF movie back then. His girlfriend was also really beautiful. And "Chico" STOLE the movie! I'm shocked to see the actor never appeared in any other films.
The sequel, "KILL AND KILL AGAIN", has a plot involving a group of specialists gathered together to do a job... which was the exact same plot as "FORCE FIVE"-- and, pretty much every single episode of "THE A-TEAM", before the fact!
It's been so long since I've watched this film, until your video, I had NO IDEA that the final shot of the film-- the villain pointing a gun at himself and committing suicide-- was swiped from Alfred Hitchcock's "SPELLBOUND"!!! Wow. (I only saw that for the first time about 15 years ago.)
Leprechaun in Shaolin hasn't been done? I guess that's pretty short-sighted.
Wow😅 Brandon, I watched "Kill and Kill Again" on Tubi last week, and cant wait on your review..
Great video.
Check out the main movie attraction (with)in 1977s Kentucky Fried Movie - "A Fistful of Yen". Still awesome!
you have no idea how hard it is to find your vid again. had to make sure im subscribe now. God youtube algorithm is so bad.
Best part of the week is a new Brandon review!!!!!
