there is myth/saying that jaya prakash malla was betrayed by his own wife on taking the throne, and after he won it back using the army of devpatan(pashupati area), he used the funds of taleju temple to fund the war/defense with gorkha which made him unpopular with the people

@@AbcDef-gw4dgStrange! I recently read "Bhaktapur ma Gorkhali hamla" which is an eyewitness account written by a newar Gangol man who was a young caretaker of Ranajit Malla, and he didn't write anything about Ranajit Malla's hate for PN shah after the conquest. Ranajit Malla asks to be allowed to go to Kashi, and PN Shah out of respect allows him. Around the end of the book the writer tries to show the mutual respect they had for each other.

@@Nep.Prazol idk if we take the song of Ranjit Malla as a reference, he actually shows his sorrow of how he have no where to go, he had no one to depend on because he has lost everything. He talks about how his father, mother, older brother and younger brother are all dead. He also calls Prithivi Narayan Shah chandal khey macha which is chandal nepali(brahmin and chettri or nepali language speaking caste) kid betrayed him. How that chandal kid fooled him and how he fell into that chandal khey kid's trap. He talks about how that chandal kid came saying he wants to see nyatapola and other stuff and did his evil thing.

PN Shah le Ranjit malla KO heir to throne Sanga mit laako ho and he had stayed at bhaktapur when he was young. KTM was captured in 1825 but it bhaktapur in 1831 so gorkhali made huge preparation to capture bhaktapur. PN Shah offered Ranjit malla any territory out of KTM valley to honour his mit baa.....but the deposed king rather choose to go to Kashi. Patan kaa pradhans were all powerful they used to select king by themselves whenever they liked or disliked...once they blinded a king biswajit malla. Obvio Naya raja aayesi Purana lai replace garxa....but Newa nobility were always part of Gorkhali administration. Leave alone Shah..even during Rana rule Newas were part of higher echleon of administration. The foreign ministry was always handelled by one newa family till 2007. Even Ganeshman's grandfather Badakazi Ratnaman was a respected figure of the court.

I've heard like one of the major reason behind the fall of malla dynasty was muslims that were brought into Nepal valley by Ratna Malla. As those muslims betrayed the malla kings by giving all the insider information about the kingdom to Prithivi Narayan Shah and in return they asked a mosque to be built in the valley and that mosque is currently said to be kashmiri masjid near Tri Chandra College.
Due to what Gorkha could finally defeat Malla in their 3rd try while they were at their most vulnerable state celebrating Indra Jatra and Gorkha deliberately attacked Kritipur on that occasion because they were informed by those muslim spies that this is the best time to attack.

That mosque was there since 16th century.
Long before, any state named Gorkha existed.
Again Mallas were somewhat liberal and they understood the importance of diversity for a nation who aspired to be a trading hub.
They even build a church for the jesuit missonaries for all this reason which was disbanded by the Shahs after their invasion.

I heard that after episodes of ghost haunting, the local tantrics were unable to do anything. So, Muslim tantrics were brought from India who subdued the ghosts of area near Rani Pokhari. And then they were allocated that area to build mosques as that area was a charnel ground or the area where children were burried.

Devalaxmi Devi is the princess of Bhaktapur and sister of King of Bhaktapur who is married to King of Simraungadh Harisingh Dev. They went in asylum to Bhaktapur on attack of Delhi Sultan due to this relationship.
Son of Queen Devalaxmi Devi, Jagatsingh Dev married to daughter of King of Bhaktapur, she is Nayakdevi. By this marriage, Crown Princess Rajalladevi was born who was ultimately married to Jaysthiti Malla who was from Vaishali kingdom and brought to Nepal Mandal by Devalaxmi devi. After this marriage, Jaysthiti Malla was made King.
This is the beginning of Malla rulers of Nepal Mandal who ruled over more than 400 years untill unification by Shah king.

BS started first (2080BS vs 2023AD)....
But waitt... dont be too proud too fast yet..
BS like my man @angrymaniac53 said it is a Hindu calendar but it is also a Lunar Calendar. AD is Solar Calendar.
All the ancient calendars started off with "Lunar" or Moon Calendar because it was much easier to study moon cycles than Sun.
AD or solar calendar is more accurate than lunar hence there is 1 leap day in 4 years in AD
and Lunar or BS has 33 leap days added in 3 years to balance the calendar hence we have "Malamas".
Romans during the time of Emperors changed from Lunar to Solar because Solar was more accurate. (😉dont hate me)

Newars are a mix of different people that’s why there you have Hindu Brahmins down to Dalits among Newars, as well as Buddhists as well as nature-worshipping castes. Mallas and their courtiers (Pradhans, Joshis, Amatyas, Rajbhandaris, etc.) were all Kshatriya Hindus who came from India.

    • @Ishitmypantsfull
      @Ishitmypantsfull 11 місяців тому

they are today's Newars. There are still Newars with surnmes Malla, Pradhananga, Pradhan who are descendants of those Mallas. Mallas however were Indo-Aryan Kshatriyas who came to Nepal to rule.

      Hi,
Here's an excerpt from historian laureate(इतिहास शिरोमणि) Baburam Acharya's book(Annexation of Malla Kingdom) "None of the inhabitants of Kathmandu lost anything as a result of the occupation of their town by Prithvi Narayan Shah. In fact, the occupation of a capital by an army without bloodshed and plunder had few parallels in the history of the world." So much so that there are drawings showing inhabitants of Kathmandu Valley showering garlands and flowers as the Gorkhali soldiers walked across the alleys of the streets of Kathmandu.
I understand 'there never was a god war' but the Gorkhali conquest was all about the 'greater good' and it served well.
Now talking about the Western colonisation mentality, it's a whole different story here...they were there for resources and assets to uplift their countries' economies and establish a 'new world order'.
      himalaya.socanth.cam.ac.uk/collections/journals/regmi/pdf/Regmi_05.pdf
      Hope it helps.

      Without bloodshed and plunder?
      This is actually hilarious.
A historical account written by a hill Brahmin(posthumously published) during Panchayat era when Shah king held supreme power talks about how PN Shahs conquest of Kathmandu was without any bloodshed with no parallel in the history.
      What were his references?
I wanna remind you numerous Newa documents and records were burnt or destroyed in the upcoming years during Rana and Panchayat era.
Now history is always written by the victors we know that but if doesnt corroborate its credibility from the other side, then we can only be left to believe that it is whitewashed.
Plus why arent there many Mallas among Newas now?
Many Mallas who shared relations with the royals went into hiding or changed their surname to survive in the valley.
Didnt Historian Acharya wrote about this part in his book?
Many paintings were commissioned during Panchayat era in attempts to whitewash their own past.
If that painting isnt from the 17th century, we would have no obligation to believe that Newas actually welcomed Shahs in the valley.
There are ballads written by the poets of Shah court who described the gruesome act of chopping noses and lips of the defeated in the war.
      -
And you think Gorkhalis were here for roses and sunshine??
Ofc they were here for wealth and power too.
Only difference is the magnitude of exploitation.
And PN Shah's predecessors didnt let us down in that aspects too.
When Shah's(Ranas too) rose into power, they attacked the indegenous language and cultures too.

    • @Hithere-qj1wj
      @Hithere-qj1wj Рік тому

      @@saswotdhakal4818
Well i read the document in that link.
And heck what a load of bull that was.
      Sorry for my language.
It basically says how PN Shahs swayed victory over the valley one by one.
      (Hm true)
And how three Mallas became submissive to mightly Gorkhalis.(Lol)
No mention of Ranjit Mallas banishment from the valley or his ballad where he talks about how his nation was snatched away from him or the massacre of the Six Pradhans and their family which was replaced with how Shahs granted them mercy.
And even the massacre of Bhaktapur civilians were potrayed as a act of honest mistake from the Shah's side.
This is too much of a whitewashing for today.
Plus the part that took me away was that how gradually the communal feeling became strong and every one started calling themselves Nepalis EMOTIONALLY, A newly founded nation by PN Shah, NEPAL.
      Wth bahahaha.
The previous Malla king, Narendra Malla called himself Nepalmandaleshwor for a reason lol.
This kind of misinformation is the cause why people believe there was no Nepal before the Shahs.
And Gorkhalis never considered themselves as a Nepali, which was only reserved for the resident of the Nepal valley.
Why do you think the Shreeman Gambir composed by Chandra Shumsher mentions about Gorkhalis and not Nepalis even after almost two centuries of this event?
Anyways, i do acknowledge the contribution of the Shah family in this nation and we respect that.
But the attempts of whitewashing the history and even painting other historical figures black to save some face is really being the cause of hatred here.

1:31 The Lichhavi dynasty originated from Vaishali in India and the Mallas from Mithilanchal India. Both are Indo-Aryan Rajputs. There is so much distortion in the commentary by so called 'historians' in discribing Mandev etc as Thakuri😂! Well 'they' want to insert themselves as historical figures. The confusion is propagated because the kings are known As Thakoors or Thakul then. This is a colloquial term used to denote as leaders or chieftains. The Mallas also are known as Thakur or Thakul kings. By the same token they should also be Thakuri😂!
Im fact the ' high caste' Chhathariya Newa ( read Kshatriya) also call themselves Thakoo or Thakul, which should also make them Thakuri,😂!
    And they are definitely not!
In fact the Thakuri of the Western Nepal are non Vedic Masto tradition worshipping ethnic Khas groups totally unrelated to the Indo-Aryan Vaishali migrated Lichhavis or the Mithilanchal migrated Malla Rajputs.
Whatever the origins, over time the Kirats, Lichhavis, Mallas and the various other migrants from West Bengal, North India, South India,Rajasthan and yes some merchant migrants even from Iraq, Iran, Armenia all became assimilated and fused into this community called the Newa who had Vedic Sanatan eeligious beliefs and Buddhist Vajrayana beliefs and some Christians as well as Muslims. Their common heritage and Nepal Bhasa bonded them as a nation and community.

Yeah khas historian claim everyone to be only from Khas community because of their superiority complex. They can't digest the fact that Maithils could have such golden period. Nothing just hatred for Madheshi. Also we still have many Thakur surnames. Anshu verma was clearly Maithils even Jaya sthiti Malla was from Mithila only because his descendants used Maithili language as official language and many Malla kings like Bhupitendra Malla and Siddhi Narsingh Malla composed many poeets in Maithils language. Still this khas historian are not ready to accept this . I don't why but when I study about history of Nepal then i feel these historians have hardcore discrimination towards Maithils.
