I always thought it was psychologically insane for people to perform in front of massive crowds. Like think about that, people don’t do that in a regular basis, we barely walk into rooms that contain that many ppl. I do believe artist are forced to transform or become an alter ego to be able to maintain that psychological shift of stardom.
I had an alter ego in my early 20s. Her name was Lola Devine. I’m shy, quiet, and a huge introvert. I also have anxiety and have waves of depression. Lola was super confident, bold and didn’t care what anyone thought. It helped me become super popular in my town and got into a lot of clubs and bars for free, meet celebs and even did a few model shoots. It was some of the best times of my life! Having an alter ego is fun.
That happened to me too, I created a sort of Alternate personality that I could go to. It allowed me to do things that I never thought I could achieve; Never been more Confident in my life.
happened to me in highschool I made up this nickname for myself and it stuck and gave me the freedom to be who ever I wanted to be when I wanted it was nice
Appreciate you taking inspiration from different genres, and including so many female artists in this one. Just came across this video on my homepage, and wow. I made my alter ego at 17 when I was a closeted gay guy from a muslim family. I did not consciously make the decision to even have an alter ego, I just wanted to be myself freely online without anyone knowing me because it was quite dangerous to be myself freely. Now i'm in my mid twenties, an adult entertainer (cause we got bills to pay ) and working on my music in peace and safety. having an alter ego really changed my life and gave me a way to see what I was capable of.
I have struggled with identity issues my whole life. I think most of my identity structure is an amalgamation of all the different alter egos I tried on for size. They certainly did help me to grow into new areas and have engaging new experiences. Nothing like being seen for who you genuinely are though.
This is a concept Michael Jackson speaks about, and alot of peopl who knew him speak about the contrast between him offstage and the beast he become onstage. He is the first person that we saw that concept come true!
This is incredibly compelling fam. I've never looked at artist alter egos objectively prior to this tbh. Always thought they were cool and fun to create but the amount of utility they offer never occurred to me until it smacked me in the face watching this

Love this idea of creating an alter ego. I don’t necessarily have one yet but when i talk to others i think of my favorite artist or people who i think that are confident and cool and try my best in that moment to embody it !
St. Vincent. Her stage persona vs. herself as Annie Clark are two different people. Her and Carrie Brownstein made a movie about it that's half comedy, half based in trth. Annie said herself that St. Vincent is an outlet for something she has inside her. Loved this concept btw.

My favorite superhero is Blade, and I see a lot of myself in that character. So recently I’ve been leaning into more of a vampire aesthetic and calling myself a daywalker on social media. I even had custom fangs made. My last DJ set I was a lot less timid than I had been bc I embraced the kickass vampire trope a little harder this time. Thanks for this video.
was disappointed that Eminem and his Slim Shady persona wasn’t mentioned, cuz he definitely influenced people like Tyler and Nicki to go all in on the alter egos in rap. He’s really the one who pushed the boundaries of that in rap specifically and one of the most famous examples overall.
Wow this video was amazing! Thank you so much for putting it together. I feel that I am developing an alter ego to help push me out of my comfort zone to start performing. For years I suffered from stage fright but recently, I met my alter ego Justin, who is a fearless and confident persona who takes control and loves to be the center of attention!
I think that the usage of the batman effect is extremely important in any endeavours. Chances are you aren't who you want to be, if you are it's likely a self defeating philosophy that blocks any growth. This is a personal opinion that is fully subjective and I'd be open to discussion, but I find that art is often hyper-referencial, focusing on exactly what's happening in life or exactly what's happening in the world, I believe that art is so powerful and it can be so much more than a basic 1:1 mirror. If you've every had such an elated feeling whilst consuming art that you can't fully explain you should know what I mean.

For me, it was bad vs good. I used to go by NOVA. He was an arrogant, egotistical drug addict who only cared about himself and used anyone he could to get whatever he needed. I always justified his behavior through creative expression. But it had a detrimental effect on my reality. I celebrated eighteen months clean recently, and for the first year of my recovery, I always felt a heavy presence that trailed me. I would see what seemed like a shadow following me. It was like my alter ego was angry I was trying to get rid of him. Through self-refleciton, prayer, and meditation, I have strengthened my relationship with God and have learned to truly accept myself. Tyler a comet of dark feminine space matter this is me 222. Beyoncè is a scorpio moon as well. When thee ego gets bruised thee super ego appears thus thee shera story. 💜 thee beat artists honor + balance their feminine creative force which is soft power that influence.
Idk how UA-cam ads work but if you can, I would go in and see if you can edit the placement of the ads in this video. There two sets of two ads in a row and it interrupts the workout
I am an Indian average guy acne marks on my face dark skin color i never opened up with the people my looks always came in my way whenever i tried to build a community or to talk someone and i still didn't figured it out how to do that.
My insecurity has nothing to do with my personality. It's to do with my belief that my music is mid. So I rely heavily on people liking what I do because I'm not sure if I'll ever like the music I make. I have a love hate relationship with it. I like ghe ideas I come up with, but I don't think I'm ever expressing it right. I'm a noob rn, so maybe that's why I'm insecure about my music. So, seeing as my insecurity has to do with the sound of my music, could I overcome it with an alter ego? Or would that just make me an arrogant idiot sharing shit with people only to torture their ears because I automatically like whatever crap I come up with?
at one point i mapped my personas onto the Jack, Queen, King, and Ace archetype... very powerful but you have to be careful when boxing yourself off not to make these characters 2D and boring, or you will out-grow them as they remain static :P
Far as Beyoncé goes I don’t believe she had any insecurities. Since she’s been like what 10 every room she’s walked in she’s been the prettiest girl. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. It’s just not the same for everyone. Not alotta people are treated like princes and princess for like 30 years straight since a kid you’ve been told your the most talented the most beautiful and you can sing that’s a triple threat and it actually works out that way like you become a major star. If she did have insecurities there very different that regular peoples.
I feel so neurotic rn and like my voice and tone isn't a good as it can be since I didn't take the time to warm up and it stopped me from recording. I saved this for a time like now earlier so I hope it helps.
I don't know if this will help in this specific instance of dissatisfaction but it might help in other things idk. It seems useful to express feelings that the normal you wouldn't express but I just don't want to loose myself in a character I take time to design. Is it all just pretend or can it change the way normal you thinks? Like I still wanna feel like me when I'm making the art and I can see how "alter egos" could help but it feels a bit strange, scary, and challenging to do. I'd like to spill out words like paint and feel good about each splatter. This is what writing in this mood feels like but I don't know if I'll be proud. I just kinda started saying things to say them in that last part as kind of a therapy but it'd be great if someone could tell me what they think about doing it

Tyler a comet of dark feminine space matter this is me 222. Beyoncè is a scorpio moon as well. When thee ego gets bruised thee super ego appears thus thee shera story. 💜 thee beat artists honor + balance their feminine creative force which is soft power that influence.
Yes, sitting at This desk at work wearing theses "work" clothes
Idk how UA-cam ads work but if you can, I would go in and see if you can edit the placement of the ads in this video. There two sets of two ads in a row and it interrupts the workout
great video
What popped up in my head was Kobe Bryant as “ Black Mamba”

I am an Indian average guy acne marks on my face dark skin color i never opened up with the people my looks always came in my way whenever i tried to build a community or to talk someone and i still didn't figured it out how to do that.
Great video!
Thank you.
What about when you don't want to have an alter ego but want to be more confident in your artistic delivery?
This is deep 🔥
i have personality disorders, alter ego is my speciality.
Thanks man!
Thank you for this
The ending…❤️☝🏾
My insecurity has nothing to do with my personality. It's to do with my belief that my music is mid. So I rely heavily on people liking what I do because I'm not sure if I'll ever like the music I make. I have a love hate relationship with it. I like ghe ideas I come up with, but I don't think I'm ever expressing it right. I'm a noob rn, so maybe that's why I'm insecure about my music.
So, seeing as my insecurity has to do with the sound of my music, could I overcome it with an alter ego? Or would that just make me an arrogant idiot sharing shit with people only to torture their ears because I automatically like whatever crap I come up with?
i was genuinely confused when batman showed up while beyonce was singing LMFAOOOOOO
at one point i mapped my personas onto the Jack, Queen, King, and Ace archetype... very powerful but you have to be careful when boxing yourself off not to make these characters 2D and boring, or you will out-grow them as they remain static :P
it's channeling.
It’s funny cause Beyoncé, Tyler and Lady Gaga are scorpio moons
I just kinda started saying things to say them in that last part as kind of a therapy but it'd be great if someone could tell me what they think about doing it
This is interesting stuff
great video also you remind me of gnomeo from gnomeo and juliet in the best way possible lol
