i just bought a vertex 2 less than a week ago after looking at your older ssd vs hdd videos and all i can say is, the preformance increase is so amazing! editing is faster, launching programs is faster and, my favourite, boot/shut town times are so so much faster... i dont even bother hibernating my computer anymore- i however get fustrated with my laptop now though

Corsair Force3 60gb. Pretty happy with it, but i did have to find a fix to get rid off my 30 sec freezes, happened weekly. A registry change and putting it to hot swap in the bios, now it runs perfect.

Linus, is there anything to consider in the capacity/performance relationship of the SSDs.
I'm big into FSX, have alot of bulky scenery data where fast read access is really attractive.
Is there anything I need to consider between say a 240GB SSD Vs a 120 GB SSD.
System is a Xeon, 16GB Mem running Win7.

hey Linus, I think you should make more vids about SSD's , Pci-e ones in particular (there was a brief mention of them in this video) like the revodrive x2 or the x3 coming soon. Thanks , great video! as always.

As always, thanks for the videos. You are totally awesome and personally deliver the best youtube videos I've seen hands down related to hardware unboxing, reviews and just plain knowledge.
I have learned alot, so keep it up!!
For me It's about the money as I guess is most peoples "problem".
As for now I am running windows, games and music/video projects of my Velicoraptor 300gb.
The SSD has got to be more then a 150 gb and will replace my velicoraptor.
Personally I like it all high, will see

I already did! Got an Vertex 2 60Gb, and I love it! I used SSD Tweaker to turn off stuff that slows down an SSD etc and turning off your pagefile etc helps allot aswell. In stalled some applications.. updated windows 7 fully and still 35 GB left.. so two or three games still fit aswell! rest of my games are put on the HDD and i put them back to the SSD when I Start to play them more often.

I bought an OCZ Vertex 2 60GB a couple months ago. I'm using it strictly as a boot drive. A friend helped me move the Windows temp files and as many files off the SSD onto my 1 TB storage drive to prolong the life of the SSD. The SSD performs great. I don't do a whole lot of gaming but the games I do have is on the storage drive.

Im having some problems with the ocz upgrade kit. I have placed my new agility 3 120 ssd in the usb housing. When i connect via USB the LED lights up blue but my computor isnt detecting anything. I was expecting it to show as flash storage like everything else. When I try the cloning process the drive still isnt detected. I have a spair sata 2 port, would it be worth connecting and cloning through SATA? Also my OS partition is 250 gig and I'm not sure what to do about it. Please help. Thanks

Maybe s.o. can answer a little question:
    I already have a Vertex2 60GB on my MSI P45 Platinum (ICH10).
Would you recommend to buy a 2nd Vertex2 60GB and put them in RAID-0? Will i get another performance-boost? I now there is no TRIM for RAID, but i've heared the Vertex2 and 3 doesnt even have "real TRIM", but something special of the Sandforce-Controller, so does this matter?
would be great if someone can answer me =)
    Other system-specs on my channel-profile.
    greeetz!

I've been rocking a Vertex 2 (120gb) for the past 4 months and it's awesome. Built it into my aging (4 years old) Thinkpad Z61m and the machine is like new. Performance is awesome (even with SATA I). I don't think I'm ever going to buy a hdd for my boot/system drive again.

@XavGod whether you put media files on a separate regular spinning disk storage drive or not. The ssd DOES THE READING hence you still get the loading speed of the file or program that's storage on the hdd. I TESTED this on 3 different custom build pc's i built myself 4 week ago with my mushkin callisto deluxe ssd and the 1 tb wd caviar black hdd. starcraft II, dvd fab, itunes, yahoo messenger ALL loaded the same as when i put all those things stricktly on the ssd. W.o.w included. cheers

I just bought the vertex 2 120Gb. I am a littlebit confused about the storage capacity. It's suppose to be 120gb drive but before i even installed Windows 7 64 bit it only showed capacity of 107Gb and it still does? How is this possible?

I have the Vertex 2 (32 nm, not the broken 25nm) and its wonderful. I have my OS and all my apps on it, and thats it. Boots in only about 10-13 seconds and I can instantly get into all my programs, no wait what so ever.
I have the rest of my data on two WD 500 black drives. Steam for one drive (36 installed at the moment) and my other for Music/Movies which is halfway full.
Then I have a 250 Seagate for download/back up, and another 500 USB drive for transfer.
Can never have to much storage

Just bought a RevoDrive 120GB for my new sandy bridge build. The performance is absolutely incredible. It took my load times from multiple steamboats (sometimes tens of steamboats) down to almost nothing. Every program on my computer is snappy, even things like windows media center open instantly with no lag whatsoever. Highly recommend the RevoDrive, and the X2 will give you even better performance. $300 well spent!

I bought a vertex II 60gb drive a half a year ago (120$) at the time. Its been performing wonderfully, but have found like Linus said an issue with space. I knew ahead of time I would put basic apps on the ssd which I use more often. You also must take into consideration is the space for updates to your OS.
I plan to buy another Vertex 2 and raid0 the drive and buy another HDD to raid it with my other 1tb.
Linus question- Could you give examples of compressible/non-compressible data?

  • @InternetSandman
    @InternetSandman 13 років тому

I'd go for either the revodrive or a 4 drive RAID 5 array on a dedicated controller. I honestly wish I could afford both, but I planned out my next system build and decided to go with the RAID array simply because of the increased capacity it offers.

I just recently bought a gaming system for ~$1200. I spent extra money on the peripherals (which was a good decision, by the way) so I had no room in the budget for an SSD. I think I'll upgrade around Christmas next year and see if the prices drop at all. Of course, that's assuming we don't all die ;)

I have a Vertex 2 50GB with 34nm IMF NAND, but I am going to get a Corsair Force 120GB this summer. OCZ has gone with lower quality 25nm NAND in the newer Vertex 2s and the Vertex 3 doesn't seem necessary to me. Last gen SandForce is plenty fast for my usage.

I'm not gonna buy an SSD 'til I definately know which advantages I get, when I'd buy for example a Vertex 3 over a Vertex 2. Of course better reads and writes, but I'm only focused at real-world scenarios, such as boot up times, multitasking or application launch times. There's got to be a sweet spot, where it doesn't make sense to get even faster storage drives.
I'd be really glad to see a real-world comparison video between "slower" and "faster" SSDs!

When am I going to upgrade to SSD? June! b/c that's when I will have the cash to buy the rest of my parts. :) Which SSD would I buy? I was going to get the 510 series but since the vertex 3 is out now and is faster than that, and unless intel has dropped the price now, it's also cheaper, I'm most likely going to get the Vertex 3, unless some bad reviews pop up on it between now and June.

already bought an ssd and i have the revo drive. one month after i bought it i saw that the vertex 3 came out. The revo drive from what ive seen will still out perform the vertex 3 drive but the down side to having a revo drive is that it takes up a pci-e slot. something prospective buyers should be aware of. its not just price and performance its do you want a Sata drive or a pci-e slot drive? all in all if i had to rebuy again i would still buy a revodrive.
