It was refreshing to hear an interviewer really interviewing someone. The questions were not meant to lead the one being interviewed into giving a predetermined, desired answer. The interviewee, Noam Chomsky, clearly described our political situation with among other things, the Democrats having abandoned the workers and the Republicans having nothing to offer except culture wars and attempting to stonewall any attempts by the Democrats to achieve reforms. This is meant to enable the GOP to say that the Democrats can not achieve anything while the country falls apart. Why does it take a FOREIGN news service to clearly speak the unvarnished truth and not our own?
The democrats have been making "progress" for decades. He never denied anything that happened in Srebrenica. He's explained many times before he almost never uses the word "genocide" to refer to anything because to him the Holocaust was the ultimate example of a genocide and if it's not close to that then he calls them atrocities or war crimes. But so far I haven't seen any evidence that he has denied the existence of a genocide.

Chomsky is extremely knowledgeable , articulate, intelligent and he is able to covey his arguments and wisdom in a historical context perfectly so that people can understand and also go away and do our own research too! This is overall a good interview, but the interviewer does exactly what Chomsky is saying cannot be done right now due to the intransigence of the Republicans, and that is say that both parties are equally responsible for today's problems. It was refreshing to hear an interviewer really interviewing someone. The questions were not meant to lead the one being interviewed into giving a predetermined, desired answer. The interviewee, Noam Chomsky, clearly described our political situation with among other things, the Democrats having abandoned the workers and the Republicans having nothing to offer except culture wars and attempting to stonewall any attempts by the Democrats to achieve reforms. This is meant to enable the GOP to say that the Democrats can not achieve anything while the country falls apart. Why does it take a FOREIGN news service to clearly speak the unvarnished truth and not our own?

He's explained many times before he almost never uses the word "genocide" to refer to anything because to him the Holocaust was the ultimate example of a genocide and if it's not close to that then he calls them atrocities or war crimes. Manufactured Consent is a great book by Noam Chomsky.and Edward S Herman.
People should also watch the Manufacturing Consent documentary. It shows how the book was attacked, which is very illuminating in itself. The documentary is free on UA-cam.

Growing up in the USA,
Noam Chomsky educated me about the truths of the USA and he has kept me on a even keel since.
Chomsky's observations are applicable democracies everywhere. What has happened in the USA has happened in Britain, where the Labour party did what the Democrats did. The UK has essentially been a one party state for over 40 years.

This is overall a good interview, but the interviewer does exactly what Chomsky is saying cannot be done right now due to the intransigence of the Republicans, and that is say that both parties are equally responsible for today's problems. After Chomsky makes clear that Republicans intend to destroy the country, explicitly, the interviewer interrupts to say that Democrats are equally to blame. What can you do with that US "both-sides-ism" kind of thinking? Americans always seem to think that there are always two sides to culpability and that isn't always the case, certainly not with today's Republicans.
The problem of USA political system are "the winner takes all" the seats.
Both parties are under extremism blackmail, that minorities, that make the difference between winning the election or not. Winning all the seats or loosing all the seats.
USA, because of the winner takes all system, are far away from being a democracy.
Its a system that blocks small parties to exist, only allowing useful vote on the main chronic 2 winners. 2 elected wings by the down 90%, full controlled by the same eagle, the top 10%.

They have the right to have a voice and to represent the citizens that have that ideals.

Germany shows that we can make socialist+capitalist coalitions.
Meanwhile in USA, both 2 parties are under black mail form the extremists of all sides to be able to reach the 50%+1.
Learn with europe how to be true democracy, with political parties that trully represent the diferent types of ideology.
@@ricardoxavier827 Look at England though. Its just as effed up as we are and they have a multi party system. Hungary too. Supposedly, one out of three people prefer authoritarianism to democracy. Republicans understand this and play to that audience. The other two out of three do not and instead just keep blaming each other for the reason we can't have nice things, when its the budding authoritarians among us that are to blame.

This man is one of the most treasured creations from the USA. I don't feel proud of many things American, but I am very grateful that Noam Chomsky is an American. He's irreplaceable, but hopefully someone else can carry the torch when he is no longer with us.

@@marw9541 It's a pretty loaded accusation to call someone a genocide denier for praising a book which is purported to deny the Srebrenica massacre. Chomsky (perhaps unwisely) praised Diana Johnstone's book because he aligned with her political views on speech, not necessarily on a denial of genocide.
@@noellewest4347 He said "they deported the women, so it wasn't a genocide" when that has been the predominant trend of genocides to murder the men and rape the women. Chomsky is also well known for his misrepresentation of sources. Consult r/AskHistorians, where on the FAQ page many point out his consistent misrepresentation of quotes and out right lies.
