Finally got rid of tandem pump in favor of e500 pump on my CL55. Water pump started leaking so while it's on jackstands I went ahead with pump replacement. Very satifying. Next on the list is adding S500 sway bar. It's still 100 deg here in Vegas so it'll get done when I have cooler weather. Appreciate all your vids!

I’ve went full coilovers on my 2005 SL500 and i couldn’t be any happier. I do have a few questions though, i’ve noticed that my steering has gotten pretty stiff since i went over to the ML55 power steering pump compared to the ABC pump, it’s still usable and the power steering is definitely working but it’s not the smoothest, is this because the ABC pump pushes out fluid at higher pressures? And is this a problem that you’ve had as well?
Hey……I’m glad to hear you’ve successfully done the coilover swap. I’ve had similar experience on one install. The others have been fine. I think it’s important to make sure you don’t start the car with the pump dry. Before reattaching the belt, and while the reservoir is full, spin by hand the wheel/pulley of pump. That helps prevent excessive air in the system and a dry start. It is not as perfect as the high pressure ABC pump. I sometimes feel a less smooth spot on full tilt/turn at dead stop. But generally a very smooth feel.
I've thought about doing this on my 08 SL65, but I haven't had any ABC issues as of yet... I know in late 07-08 the ABC system got completely revitalized... It's still just that peace of mind with it being gone... Also it lightens the heavy SL65 up a bit... mine has a euro charged Ecu tune, so it's tempting to do this.
Wow…..a SL65. Nice! You have a very special car there. I likely wouldn’t convert it until you have an extensive issue with you ABC. Your cars value is through the roof. And such a change would be under appreciated by some if you ever sell it. Due to the rarity of your car. But if you know 100% that you’re keeping this collector forever…….then gladly consider the coilovers when need be.
Hi Brandon, great jobs in the 03' SL500 from Chicago... I have an 04' and same problem developing! still driveable but front right fender sitting about half inch higher. How much to change its out my freind? let me know, I'm Tyler and I want to do it before it gets worse..

I do remove the valve blocks. I remove the one in front of drivers front wheel. Also, the valve pulsation dampener behind drivers front wheel…..also rear valve block in front of rear drivers wheel. I remove as many lines as possible. All on the drivers side that run along the front of car and back to the drivers side rear.
I was wondering ... it asks spring rate..rear extender upgrade... super low kit...not sure what is the wright way to order for 03 sl500 not sure what that means seems like it's like 1,200 just for I guess a basic kit and an upgrade would be like 1500 is there a big difference and what would you suggest sorry that I keep on bothering about this but I'm just wanting to get this car fixed and you have giving me some hope . . It’s all good. I can help you get this SL500 back on the road without any further suspension issues. Spring rate should be the default preselected rate. You do not want the super low upgrade. The swift spring upgrade is a more performance oriented spring. It’s an added $350. I don’t use them on mine. But it is the very best spring available. No rear extenders needed on the SL.
Great video...I wish I could have you fix my sl ..have abc problems leaking after putting remanufactured for 500$$ plus fluid then it leaked again from hose mechanic tells me hose not flush on pump think pumps not wright he just doesn't know high pressure hose replaced 400 labor 700 what do you with abc red light after conversion ..
I wish I could convert yours as well bro. Come to Cincinnati…..lol 👍🏾 For the red abc light once you convert to coilovers, you remove the abc fuse on the drivers side under the hood.

I just got a 2003 CL500 and the driver side is sagging and the light is going off every bump I go over. I was thinking about trying to replace the parts but I don’t want to be dealing with that ima just swap to coil overs
Fantastic vehicle. The motor and transmission are solid. Used throughout the Mercedes models 00-06. The problem with the pre-03 S-classes though is exterior body rust, and early electronic modules and features are more problematic. If I were to buy one, I’d stick to 03 and up.

@@goldelementautoworks You can relax--the idea was from a cartoon I saw in the 70s, only the tires were flat. It read, "Notice how we let the air out of the bottoms of the tires to give it that low, racy look." I think you have a cool and simple product.
