  • A little about me - I just moved to Tasmania, Australia to finish my masters in Marine & Antarctic science. I did the best I could last year virtually and am so happy to finally be allowed into Australia. My degree is a super niche degree and here has such great opportunities, that it was worth me moving across the world for! Join me on my journey.

Fun fact: both Targets were developed independent from each other and have no links!
It's like, we have ABC in Australia, but our is a lot older -- unfortunately we have to specify and not the other way around, but I guess it's a matter of influence

The only thing similar about Target in the USA and target here in Australia is the name. Kmart and target here in Australia are owned by the same people.

Hi Ashleigh. I hope you continue to explore and enjoy Hobart.
When you get settled into your new place, try and discover the local 'opportunity shops', the local name for thrift shops. A lot of things you were oohing over in Target can be found there for a fraction of the price, including bed linen and crockery and cutlery. Try not to pay retail!
Winter in Hobart can be pretty cold, and a lot of places are not well-insulated, so you will soon feel the need for a 'doona'. Once again, the local op-shop is your friend.
A very popular theme on UA-cam is 'things that surprised me' from recent arrivals. Things like 'no tipping', 'no sales tax', 'people barefoot in the supermarket', 'free barbeques in the park', and so on. I haven't seen anyone do one from Tasmania yet. 8-)
Uni starts in a couple of weeks. Let's hope that feeling of loneliness dissipates once you have some classmates.

Yes to a doona. No to buying it from an op shop. 🤣 I’m too much of a germaphobe. I’d have to wash it a dozen times and I still wouldn’t be comfortable. By the way op shops will mostly be referred to as Vinnes (short for St Vincent de Paul’s a local charity) or Salvos (short for the Salvation Army).

Gin is huge in Australia. Not renowned for our cocktails though. Our wines are a lot better than anything that would have been on a wine list in the USA.

Yes if tax (GST) is payable (some items like fresh food are GST exempt) then by law it must be included in the ticketed price.

Target is not necessarily the best store to do that kind of shopping , check out Big W , Aust K Mart is not the same company as the US company. Ashleigh as the staff on the hotel desk about their favourite stores for the various items. Big W has reasonable prices on small electrical appliances. So,check kmthere first. The inner city will probably be more expensive that the slightly out suburbs for shopping centres

I'm sure you've already worked this out, but US Target and Aus Target are not even remotely connected; they're not the same company. They pay a copyright fee for the use of the logo and that's it, none of the same products, not the same company.

Just stumbled on your channel. Nice vid's Ash.
I will say, Tassie is slightly more expensive than the mainland, just due to cost of transport.
Tassie is known as the Apple Isle, the climate is awesome for orchards, and so ciders especially are prominent in Tas.
Ticket prices, as others have said, the ticket price is the price you will pay (includes tax), and as far as I know, no-one in Aus is charging COVID surcharge (around 3% in US), and of course, you don't have to tip here. Tips are welcome, but generally, the meal price covers the wages etc.
Saw you looking at a QR scan-in, interested to know your opinion of our C/VID response vs NY, and the whole vaccinated economy in so many states.
Welcome to Aus, enjoy your time, and Antartica, apart from the cold, super jealous.

Would you mind moving your camera a little slower when you walk around or show items. It makes it a bit difficult for those of us with visual problems when it moves fast.

Tasmania has lots of beers because they have - from memory - places where you can get pretty pure water. Thats the basis of the Cascade brewery. You need a car to get up there though. Pretty area. The only other Tasmanian beer I know is Boags. Both of those beers are pretty good.

Great video! Im from Sydney... I try and go to Tasmania every couple of years, so cold down there. Target is okay, I shop at Kmart more often though. Also look out for Harris Scarfe, thats another good depratment store. If you ever go back to Melbourne, the ferry across the strait is an awesome experience.

More that target, we have kmart. And more than costco or walmart for grocery, we have woolworths! Any fellow australian who shops from woolworths has the smell of raw fish in their veggies XD if you know it, you know it 😂

Yep sadly Target in Australia has over the last 10 years reduce a lot of stock from the floor, and I have to agree its really pathetic now. I envy you coming from the USA with the amazing choices you have in shopping. Welcome to sleepy Hobart, hope you enjoy your time here.

Good afternoon, im looking to see if there is anyone who knows how to set up a proper youtube account. I have a youtube account, have no idea what has happened, somehow without doing anything it seems to have created 3 accounts, uploads to one for a few years, now somehow its loading to the second account I did not set up, i see the videos from both accounts, I try to see if I can fix anything, so when I check my google youtube, oh my, it says my channel has no videos or subscription. But that is on chrome, when using google app for same email it shows dozens of accounts I subscribed to and some of the latest videos I uploaded via app. But again if use same email account for that account on firefox - it does not show any of the youtube channels I subscribed to on the app, but it does show me all the videos i uploaded years ago on my youtube. The weird thing is, I can subscribe to my other channel via the other web browser. Using same email accounts. Does anyone know how to fix up and realign youtube so it can make sense and be all in the one place ? On one of the accounts it had my old email address which I got rid of which I no longer use, and I can not delete or change that old email address to my current email address. Is anyone able to assist ?
