  • Today we are playing a bunch of Faction Play games to defend the Inner Sphere from the Clan Invasion. My Dropdeck consists of 2 Thunderbolts, a Warhammer and a Catapult that I switched out later for a Jagermech.
    I tried to build the Dropdeck around sturdy Mechs with some good mid-range weapons, like PPCs, Large Lasers AC10 and LRM10.

    In my opinion, an analogy I can give is - Clans are the sword and IS are the poison dagger. In a sword fight who ever has the longer weapon wins, since they can strike first, however the poison dagger will always kill when in close. And this is shown in game where Clanners have the range advantage and can strip off armour before IS can close to close range, but as soon as IS mechs are in close range ~300 they will often kill Clan mechs easily. This is because of the quirks that make up IS mechs and the huge benefit in IS SRM's where they have 0.9 more damage per SRM 6 volley compared to Clan's equivalent. Lore wise in this current time period Clans are taking swaths of Inner sphere known space. Its not until the 3060's that the IS starts to reinvent, steal and salvage clan tech that brings them back into the fight.

    It's interesting to hear you say, "When you lose 90% of the games..." I lose 90% of the PUG drops I do now! The reason I'm still in Tier 5 is that there isn't a Tier 6! XD o7

      mwo is so locked down with its pros i love mechwarrior 5 but mwo was only ever a morbid curiosity i attempted to take part in.. not sure how many billions of cbills i've freely given to the masses of paid and calculated for best Dps for quickest time to kill load outs.. . me just flailing around using regular stuff getting Decimated with my whole 7 crap filled mech bays lol

    It's funny to see the complaints from the other side:
    "Clans have all this range and firepower, it's OP!"
    Then from my side I look at it like:
    "IS have all these quirks and extra weight, it's OP!
    Really that first match was very close and could've gone either way with just a few kills.
    Only seen the first couple matches so far but I can say your drop deck was fairly weak. The IS mech I hate to see is the Battlemaster-2C with their MASSIVE durability increases and high mounted LPL. And since you have 265 tons you can get in two of them into your drop deck. If you have a locust to use as a last mech try out 85 + 85 + 75 + 20, it is basically a drop deck of three assaults.

      IS vs. Clan is more about if the player/team can exploit the weaknesses of their opponents. torso twisting vs. ebj vomit in a e.g. grasshopper is much easier than doing this as an ebj vs. IS large pulse and mediums.
      In my experience it's all about the players and how well they can use their mechs. I never felt like being the underdog in CW and I'm an IS loyalist. Although I must admit that most clan weapons are more beginner friendly as you can adjust your aim with clan lasers while IS pulse lasers won't forgive any mistakes in your aim.

      2nd that. It is more about players abilities to use the strength of their mechs/builds and teamplay than about clan or is tech. Both are different which is great imo but no side is totally op. There cannot be a perfect balance but from my point of view balance is pretty ok atm. Oftentimes you can judge by the names and unit tags in the start screen which team will wrap the match up.

      Kanajashi clan speed advantage and clan xl are more powerfull than any quirks the IS has. and clan mechs just allow more mistakes, they are much easier to play and thus more attractive to the bigger, organised companies - who then utterly destroy anything and anyone else. and if you dont believe me, just ask yourself: whats easier to play with? spider or arctic cheetah?

    • @2XS
      @2XS 7 років тому

      If both teams have even skill levels IS will win most of the time. So it is crucial for Clan pilots to gather in good organized units to have a realistic chance against all the IS quirks and tonnage advantage.

      If it were closer to the Lore, the only balance factor would be pitting more more IS 'mechs against fewer Clan 'mechs.

    For what it's worth, you're normally a hot knife through butter in quick play. It's interesting to see how you fare against (potentially) organised and generally more skilled / better equipped players.
    My impression is that in many cases, the first few kills in quick play stand a greater chance of taking out a key player.

    Things you need to know about FP. First always use standard engine mechs especially if your IS mech. Secondly always have at least two of your four mechs snipers with high mounts. Thirdly, Poke and deal as much damage as you can without taking damage. Those are the most three important things.

  • @TheExard3k

    about Dropdeck....warhammer and catapult are great and fun builds and you're doing fine with it. Thunderbolt builds are special and not really good for that HPG game and you lost most trades in Terra Therma vs. clan laser vomit. You may want to switch mechs in your dropdeck according to the map and situations you expect.
    E.g. Good old Thunderbolt SS,( the former) workhorse of the Inner Sphere, with medium pulses would have helped you greatly in HPG. Same tonnage same chassis, easily switchable in dropdecks.
    In the end it's a team game. Although you are an above average / good player, most of your teammates weren't. You can't carry a FW-match all by yourself. Doing 1,5k+ damage(aka "I've done my job") and guiding your team is all you can do in a solo pug FW. In Solo Queue you can kill half the enemy team by yourself making you basically MVP. Although 24 kills in FW is possible, it's much less likely.
    If you like to have more influence on FW matches, drop in a group. Even a single focused lance can have a major impact on these kind of matches you played. I like to drop with my unit (36th Dieron, Kurita) as a lance. You ensure focussed damage and I can alwas rely on them no matter what happens.

    I have watched all your videos and paid close attention to your game play. In watching this, I noticed right away a drastic change in your game play in the match vs. your videos. I know that nerves run high during matches and it is more relaxing on regular drops, but to me the change was significant. You used terrain differently, stacked behind fading mechs, held on to zoom when there were flankers on radar and on screen, etc, etc. A prime example was when you used your Jager for the first time, waltzing out in the open on the front lines. You lost your CT exterior armor before you ever fired a shot. I love your videos and have been itching to get back into MW. I'm not trying to be critical but rather pointing out an observation. Getting back to your basic playing style will only pay you dividends. I hope to see more videos in the future and GOOD LUCK out there!

    Thinking of your Thunderbolt for reference (I don't know if the Thunderbolt has ballistic hardpoints), do you think that perhaps using a mixed ballistic / PPC loadout might be best for Faction Play since the ballistics let you stay in the fight when you get hot??? Maybe a Rifleman with 4x AC/2s and some lasers???

    Theres a reason my IS decks rock AC20/ML builds. My friends and I ran a lance of 'boomers' and there is not a lot that can stand in the face of coordinated AC20 fire.

  • @charlesskrobis5132
    @charlesskrobis5132 7 років тому

    This was really weird to hear. I'm very used to trying faction play, and then the IS team is all Large laser, LPL, or mixed Laser laser/ med laser builds, and they stomp the clan side. It's also based heavily on the groups you fight, cause the best players are all mercs, so they will play both sides. So when 8+ people are all dropping together, sometimes we see crazier synchronized drops, like we got hit with a 12 atlas rush the other day that came right out of the tunnel on crimson, and they knew we were there cause domination. There's also a ton of depth to faction play, such as armor sharing, or throwing out one of your mechs to drop in a new one with a full alpha strike for the firing line, or how far you can extend before the drop ships start shooting you and enemy reinforcements are right there, or if you reinforce vs holding up for a full 12 man wave. Coordination just means so much more in invasion. If it helps, I've been checking the progress of faction regularly for a long time now, and since the stormcrow was removed from scouting, clan have taken maybe 1 planet in thoses months, when it updates every 8 hours. The IS have pushed back and won a good 10-12 planet victories back. So you can win, but it is a much harder mode than quick play.

    • @Baradul
      @Baradul  7 років тому +1

      I think the problem here was the coordination. I believe that you can make a lot happen in this game mode when you are going for group drops. But the with the lack of leadership and teamplay this game mode seems (!) be heavily tilted towards the Clan side for the overall better individual performance.

    • @charlesskrobis5132
      @charlesskrobis5132 7 років тому +1

      I'm still not sure clan without coordination is better. Now the player that stick with the clan side will become much better when they get used to trading up against the extra 25 tons the IS side has. I't also that hard strategy thing, where because the drop deck has such a low tonnage option, clanners have stopped taking Kodiaks to keep more balanced drop decks so fire power doesn't drop off if you hit through a wave of 2. I fact it gets so hard, I don't solo drop invasion. I wait till I have a majority of the drop being with my unit, one of our drop callers around, lance leads as back up drop callers for when he's respawning in the drop ship, etc. So when we drop, we drop hard, but the organized IS units are getting good at throwing their tonnage around, using just the meta mechs, and using any map advantage. If it helps, there is a conflict history log, and that will declare the change, and victory of both sides throughout the day. I find a match ends every 3-5 minutes, so it builds up, and that victory hits both sides a lot according to it. If one side just won all the matches, the times I've seen that, the game mode will be on the next mode before you drop again, and then it pins itself to invasion for the rest of the cycle till the planets get taken.

    clan laser vomit is too imba in MWO. Threre s only one good weapon choice in the game lasers.
    ballistics are gimped simply because you can use their dps only at less then 300 m and against large slow mechs otherwise your shots miss.

    A tip for faction play... don't kill the stick mechs. If they lose all weapons then leave them alive, if you force them to Eject they are out of the fight for that much longer.

  • @Maniac742

    They really screwed up balance when they introduce clan into this game. It wasn't even in the original design. They were just like, "Hey, you know what'd be cool? Completely changing the game!" XL engines that don't die from side torso losses, better range, higher damage, lower weight. They even had to nerf the heat sinks just to make IS competitive. Heavily quirk IS mechs to give them comparable range. It was all a very, very poor design decision. Top all of that off with clan only vs. IS only faction warfare matches and you have a recipe for stupidity. FW isn't all it's cracked up to be either. You have to be a unit to participate. Try to drop solo and you'll just die over and over again and you can't even hear your team coordinate. They're all in Discord. Another very, very poor design decision by PGI.
