About once a year or so, it's time to tkae stock and review the collection to see what's new, what's old and what's gone from the collection. Perhaps most importantly, it's time to see the direction the collection is either taking and where to go next.
Great collection, Bill. Love your videos, thanks!
Hey Den, thanks man! Kindest regards, Bill
What a collection! Love the H Moser & Cie...and the Vacheron Constantin 1921...and the F.P. Journe CS. And the little Zenith amongst the giants! I love my 36mm Zenith Elite 💕
Hey Annika, I am very happy to hear of a fellow Zenith Elite enthusiast! My Elite is solidly reliable and a great watch in the shadow of the El Primero - the Zenith Elite doesn't get the credit and appreciation it deserves! Kindest regards, bill
Fantastic collection, Bill. Appreciate you allowing us to keep up with its evolution over time.
It's my pleasure SouthNC63! Glad you like it. Kindest regards, Bill
Outstanding collection Bill! Love to hear the relationship you have with each piece.
Patrick Chip Thanks Patrick it’s a lot of fun to learn all about each one. Kindest regards Bill
That Bovet 1930 is to die for.
EisernerBaer You can find great deals on the 19Thirty online. Good hunting! Bill
What an amazing, thoughtful, and FUN collection. It is something for us to aspire to. Thank you for introducing us to watches you normally do not see on other channels.
Hey Bruce, I think you hit on the main point of collecting archaic mechanical watches-FUN! Otherwise, what's the point? Cheers, Bill
Fantastic collection Bill, I really like your Patek and FP Journe
Your Bovet is amazing.
Hey Reza, thanks man! I like my wife's Bovet! Cheers, Bill
Nice collection. I learn more every time i view your videos. Thanks for your insight.
Hey Nelson, great to hear from you! Thanks. We can learn a lot from each other! Kindest regards, Bill
Thanks Bill
Every single one of your pieces is off the beaten path and special in some way with some kind of story to it. The closest you get to mainstream is your JLC Reverso. It's a beautifully interesting and horologically relevant collection. Bravo, sir!
Thanks Meson 1! Perhaps you'd like a review of your collection. I would be happy to oblige. Kindest regards, Bill
Alas, Bill. I've only just started out. I'm not sure how much mileage you could get out of a 2009 Navitimer, a Sinn 104 and a Citizen Stiletto quartz. Maybe in a few years time when I might have a few more pieces.
Beautiful collection! That VC 1921 is an absolute grail
Hey Jack, thanks man! At one time that VC 1921 was my grail too. I got it new (Condition 0) on the secondary market during the 'Asian Crisis' when China cracked down on corruption. Got it for $10k under list and gave up an Audemars Piguet I wasn't wearing. Where there's a will there's a way. Kindest regards, Bill
I would call your collection Eclectique (in French) ! Simple yet, very sophisticated ! I like simple Watch too, we are about the same generation, I guess ! I have a FP Journe Repeater, an Omega Hourglass and dreaming of a more exotic yet simple DeBethune Skybridge MC amongst other! Cheers
Hin Normand, 'Eclectique' is quite right. Your taste in watches, though a FPJ Repeater is a bit out of my reach... A DeBehume would certainly add to your collection...or anyones! My sights are a a Lang & Heyne Friedrich III. Cheers, Bill
Thanks very much for sharing! What a fantastic collection, I'm always learning from your insights...
Thanks, Johann! Take a look at my most recent additions...and subtractions. We always hope we make the right decisions! Cheers, Bill
Such a beautiful collection, bravo! I love how almost every watch is your "favorite". The ladies Bovet remains the most beautiful watch I have ever seen.
Hello Bill,As I have explained in previous commitment I'm new to the internet watch community,I'm very glad to have found your channel have you done a video introducing your self I'd be interested about what you do for a living your age and how you got into watches, I'm 67 retired , Bought my first nice watch in 1971 Rolex Datejust two tone silver linen dial I still have it ,The price at the time was 350$
Hi Junior, like you I'm retired. The Internet watch community has something for everybody. I was your age about eight years ago, but I know some bright 18-year olds who are more watch savvy and interested in horology than most of the older guys are like we are-just want to enjoy learning about watches and horology. Cheers, Bill
Hey Bill you have a great collection my friend, love the Habring and the blue bovet. The LV is a crazy touch but very cool indeed. Enjoy your pieces. Cheers
Hi Akula, thanks for the kind words man! Indeed the LV is straying from my usual path, and my wife got it in the end! However, it does have a great display for world travel. Kindest regards, Bill
Wonderful collection, Bill. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Airtoad! I'm glad to hear you liked it. Watch collecting is for sharing, and if you'd like a collection review of your watches just let me know! Kindest regards, Bill
WatchArtSci Will definitely submit my ‘collection’ for review but may be awhile. One of my pieces will be in the shop for three to four week. (Showed signs of needing a service - or new flux capacitor - out of the box but covered warrantee) Made a light box and started photographing the rest today.
Great Airtoad! Send them to williebegoode@att.net - look forward to seeing them. Cheers, Bill
What a stunning (and inspirational ) collection. I love the absence of the "usual suspects" watches that other prominent UA-cam collectors seem to (exclusively) focus on. Having watched a LOT of your videos, a running theme seems to be the importance of knowledge, especially regarding movements and company collaborations, etc. I wonder if you would consider making a video focusing on your research strategies? Where do you begin your research, what sources do you recommend or use? I'd especially be interested in any watch literature you might recommend. Thanks again for a great video, I'm looking forward to the next.
Hey Anthony, thanks man! Probably the most important aspect a watch collector can have is curiosity about watches. Separating the hyperbole and made-up 'information' from real information is the most difficult. It's a matter of looking at all aspects of the watch business, getting to know knowledgeable watch collectors and watchmakers. The best published resource for starting out is Ryan Schmidt's "The Wristwatch Handbook." Aside from the great photos of watches, the book does a superb job of explaining the basics of how mechanical watches work. George Daniels' "Watchmaking" is another resource to be used as a reference-reading it from cover-to-cover is near impossible as the book is not organized not as a sequential guide but as a collection of techniques. Many published works can be found online free in PDF format and of course, you'll find numerous online articles from watch magazines. The value of these articles is usually in the nitty gritty about the base movement used in a watch. If all you see is "Swiss Made," the movement is most likely an ETA, Sellita or Soprod. (Usually if an outstanding movement like Vaucher is used, the watch company is wise enough to let that fact be known.) Watch blogs and magazines are dependent on revenues from watch advertisements, and so it's an exception when they don't pull their punches. Finally, look at the watches entered and awarded in the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (gphg.org) - here you'll find watches considered to be the best of the best. Follow the thread from pre-selection to final awards... however, do not ask yourself why Rolex has never entered... Here are some of my videos that explain the thought and research process: Numbers 74, 76, 78, 80, 86, 93, 106, 109, 115 and 116. Sunday's video is going to surprise a lot of viewers- an affordable first step in the path to Exceptional Horology. Kindest regards, Bill
Hi Bill, thank you for the detailed response, I'll definitely take time to investigate those sources and study those videos you've made. Can't wait for Sunday's video. :)
Hey bill you’re deff becoming 1 if my favorite you tubers and I look forward to seeing every one of your new vids that come out! I’m fairly new to high horology and I learn something almost every single one of your vids! Keep it up man and hopefully you get a lot more subscribers very soon ( you definitely deserve it) hope you have a great Easter wknd!
Hey David, thanks man! You'd be surprised how much I owe to the great comments I get on this channel from subscribers! Kindest regards, Bill
Amazing collection, Bill. I'm only missing a Grand Seiko in there - their new steel with blue dial is my wet dream come true. But it's automatic, so...
My favourite is your Parmigiani Kalpa.
Michael Andersen My Kalpa is delighted to get some love Michael!
Very nice collection review you've got a stunning collection! Cheers
Hey TE, thanks man! I'm happy to share all of watch-do with this channel! Kindest regards, Bill
hi there Bill, not a subscriber yet but watch your videos regularly.
I love your collection especially the pieces towards the end : The F.P, Parmigiani pieces
I will like to recommend a piece to complement your high end pieces and will cost you only a fraction: It is the grand seiko automatic: SBGR061
It is Dressy but can be dressed down. Should go with all your out fits.
Talk to you soon. Take care
Thanks Joey, I'll take a look at it. Kindest regards, Bill
one more thing- I know you are into independents. Check out Dornblueth and Sohn: They have a model called quintus klassik.
Nice talking to you Bill
Ooo man this is a true collection. Very nice Mr Bill
Hey Alex, thanks man! Kindest regards, Bill
You asked for suggestions. Are you familiar with the term Doctor's Watch? Could you explain what it means? And show a modern example of a Doctor's Watch? I enjoy your show. I especially wish to compliment you on how you show large pictures of the watch you are discussing. And super kudos on your vast knowledge coupled with your willingness to share. Bill, you are doing a great job. Thanks.
Hey James, a 'Doctor's Watch' can be a lot of things, but here's one that is actually called a 'doc's watch': www.longislandwatch.com/Aristo_4H124_Doctor_Watch_p/4h124.htm They were originally used for taking pulses, and so the jumping seconds in a watch became synonymous with 'Doctor's Watch.' Now on my list, that would be a Habring2 Erwin! Kindest regards, Bill
Hi James, in early 20 century, there appears some watches manufactures to launch out this style of watches for medical personnel to use for easily to take down the patient's pulses rate.
images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81AQijLJiCL._SY445_.jpg, and this style of vintage watches if in good condition, vintage watches collectors will be crazy to bid up to get one. The picture shown actually is a modern replica in quartz movemnt
and for those Rolex fans, here is a current model example of re-issue of the classical Rolex Prince Doctor watch style. www.bobswatches.com/rolex-blog/rolex-info/doctors-day-cellini-rolex-prince.html
Cheers

Hello Bill, having a few gold watches myself, I find them easy to scratch and ding up. I noticed you had some minor scratches and/or dings on your watches. How do you feel about having such scratches and small dings on your high end gold watches? Can you still enjoy them the same as if they were mint? I often get scratches especially in lugs of my gold watches when changing straps. Some cases are harder to perform strap swaps without scratches or minor dings (even when taped up, because gold is quite soft).
Hi WA, the dings and scratches on my gold watches attests to the fact that I enjoy them everyday. It gives them character! Cheers, Bill
I appreciate that outlook. Personally. I get depressed when I see scratches. I need to adopt your outlook to really enjoy my collection.
Look at it this way: a shiny unscratched watch is unloved. Cheers Bill
Great review as always. You pointed out the most interesting aspects of each timepiece in a wonderful collection.
I have had numerous perpetual calendars including PatekCurrently there is fabulous buys zeNith annual calendar chronograph mid 4s to 7k. Condition 0.Ulysses nardinin makes several unique perpetual calendars Aqua perpetual 8 to 11k .Patel 3940 is very dressy and no second hand. There annual calendar is less formal with a second hand..
Galja Hey 👋 Galja! Thanks man for tips on calendar watches. Saving for my next watch ... may take a while....cheers Bill
What a great collection. Love the FP Journes.
Hey L Champ! Thanks man! Those FPJs are masterpieces. Take care, Bill
That is an awesome collection! Congratulations! Parmigiani is wonderful, as every piece in your collection?
Thanks Lee! Kindest regards, Bill
Great collection, thank you for sharing!
Hey Per, thanks man!. My pleasure to share! Kindest regards, Bill
Bill your collection is absolutely amazing. One is nicer than the next. You should really try and wear that Zenith more often. I love that blue dial. But I have to say that my favorite is your 1921, what a beautiful and unique watch. Wear them all well.
Hey Bruce, thanks man! Hope you got the email I sent. Cheers, Bill
Hi Bill, I just checked and no I did not receive your email. Please resend it. Thanks
Bruce, just to be sure I have your correct email; send one to me at williebegoode@att.net and I'll send it again via the 'return'... Thanks, Bill
Actually I thought of three other perpetual calendars.Glashutte original 9-18k depending on case material.H.Moser and cie. Endeavour perpetual 26-35k.Very very neat ,unique, and I suspect one you'd favor.Lange and Sohn not sure what they call it but I think a good buy considering how expensive there watches are.
Galja I keep wanting a Lang & Heyne time-only ... but have to start serious savings...
Hey Bill,
I enjoyed having a look at your fine collection.
My suggestion for an addition:
Patek Phillip Quantieme Annual Ref. 5396
Hi RP, that's a lot of watch! My tastes run a tad more modest in Pateks...and there's a Gondolo that's been calling to me ever since I started collecting watches. If you have some more ideas, let me know. (Hint: Visit Lang & Heyne web site...) Cheers, Bill
WatchArtSci
I agree about the Patet. I made the recommendation based on that it was a past nomination and you mentioned wanting a perpetual/annual.
Now I like the Patek 5098R-001.... odd watch ... tonneau shape - almost Oval... There's always something out there... Cheers, Bill
AWESOME Collection!
Hey 20thCenturyBoy! Thanks man. Cheers, Bill
do you think f.p. journe chronometre bleu is too expensive now?
Milan, if you're going to get a Bleu, go to your AD and tell him you want a Bleu and get on their waiting list. The list price is actually lower than the used price because the demand is so high. Alternatively, you can get a ±10 year old pre-owned FP Journe in rose gold with a power reserve indicator for around $22,000 or one in platinum for around $24,000. A new Bleu (after a wait of about 2 years) will run around $21,000 but will be worth about $27-29,000 on the pre-owned market. My own preference is the model with the power reserve indicator that's available in rose gold or platinum. Mine has risen in value, but not as much as the Bleu (or my Resonance...) Cheers, Bill
Hi Bill, this is an amazing collection you have here. Now I understand why you don’t have Rolexes. I would see an AP fitting well here, not the usual ones (Royal Oak etc.. - though the 15202 in a nice one to have - ) but one off the bitten tracks like the Jules Audemars 30e anniversaire . It would tick many boxes - a holy trinity and a high complication- love to hear your thoughts on this one. Please keep on giving us great vids. Regards.
Hey DG B, thanks man! I had an AP, and I would like one, (pretty much along the lines you suggested...) but there are others, and it looks like I'm going to have to stand back for a while an figure it out. Lang & Heyne is high on my list, and I keep liking H. Mosers more every day. It's still a mystery to me too! Kindest regards, Bill
Amazing collection, every watch is a masterpiece, congratulations and thanks for sharing...by the way, which pieces of your collection would you leave behind to get that perpetual calendar? Greetings...
Yes, Oskar, about the perpetual calendar... what about an annual calendar? Then I get to play with it once a year! The PC I like is by H. Moser but I can't afford it; so I'm looking around. Cheers, Bill
Good luck with your quest Bill, PC by H. Moser would be fantastic!
What about the H.Moser Perpetual Calendar, or the Glashutte senator Perpetual Calendar, Ulysse Nardin GMT Perpetual reference 322-66 for a more different look, or a Breguet Perpetual Calendar reference 5327BB/1E/986?
Hi Fernando, I really like the H.Moser Perpetual Calendar. In fact I think it's the best PC on the market; however I can't afford it right now. In a saving mode for the time being. Kindest regards, Bill
Hello Bill - All thoroughly enjoyable as always. Not sure if I missed it, but what is the name was the second Parmigiani, the GMT? Regards - Eric
Hi Eric, that's the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Hémisphères. Here's one on Jomashop at a big discount. www.jomashop.com/parmigiani-fleurier-pfc231-0001400-ha4042.html?pt_source=googleads&pt_medium=cpc&pt_campaign=(ROI)+Shopping+-+Sale+Watches+$10000+-+$25000&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqYfWBRDPARIsABjQRYw6B9jTOF2lqRt3YZy_IxCWfS083hvuPwOtAkCDvI1Ttui59G2Oow8aAuTGEALw_wcB I'd offer them $7,000 and see if they take it.
Here's a great deal on a Tonda in gold: www.shopworn.com/product/parmigiani-tonda-42-18k-white-gold-automatic-mens-watch-pfc224-1200101/ ... They're having some kind of sale at 15% off; so you could get a white gold Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda for around $7,000. The Hemispheres in gold is listed at $17,000 but you could probably get it for $14,000 ... or less ( www.shopworn.com/product/parmigiani-18k-rose-gold-tonda-42-hemispheres-automatic-mens-watch-pfc230-1001200/ ) I am not a good influence! Good hunting! Bill
Thank you - trouble is, being in the UK, buying outside the EU, I have to cost in import duty and VAT. This adds I think, in excess of 30% to the advertised price. Keeps you poor this lark doesn't it?
I haven't come up with a quicker way to go broke! I'd do better betting on the ponies! Cheers Bill
Werry nice collection! Thank You!
Bill, you got really a charming collection, personally I like both VC America 1921 and Bovet 19 Thirty, however both are beyond my reach so I will treasure them via your channel instead.
Hey Benny, the Bovet 19Thirty Fleurier doesn't seem to hold its near-$20k value very well, and I wouldn't be surprised if you won't be able to find one for under $5k in a few years. Kindest regards, Bill
@@watchartsci if 5k for a pre-owned in good shape, it will be a steal deal.
They're already selling for $11k new ( www.chrono24.com/bovet/bovet-fleurier-19-thirty-42mm-skeleton-power-reserve-7-days--id5019264.htm ); so I just see the pre-owned ones being a lot less. If you buy for quality instead of "reputation" you can get great watches for great prices! Cheers, Bill
@@watchartsci Thanks Bill, yup for my past 30years watches collection , I put purse your strategy always look for watches not for it's brand, but for it's movements, but not necessary for the best movements, I also count much on its case and dial layout, design and historical means. Though not much watches I have at moment, but I try to keep either one or two watches that can represent some characteristic of the decade. So far my collection stretch from 1940s to 2010s.
Wow! You've been collecting for a long time! Our time spans for our collections are very similar: my first is a 1940ish Bovet Monorattrapante and most recent is 2016-17. Did you mention something about a collection review? Cheers, Bill
Bill...you have a rock'n collection.
Recently subscribed, and may I say, 'I love' your videos.
Hey Kenneth, thanks man! Welcome to WatchArtSci! Kindest regards, Bill
Bill that is just an awesome collection of high end and horological interesting pieces! So, what would I do? Keep one Journe, flip the "almost Calatrva" and the Zenith and buy a Patek annual calendar. Then you need AP in there... At that point you can die a happy man! LOL
Hey SP. Not going to flip either Journe, and as soon as you march yourself over to 9601 Wilshire Blvd (in the Lobby) Beverly Hills and tell them 'Bill sent me' and you want to see the F.P. Journes available, we'll see who's going to flip an FPJ. I have lusted after a Patek Philippe Gondolo for years, but after meeting with a former Grand Prix judge, I'm probably better off keeping my 3468. With H. Mosers and Parmigianis available at great prices, they are more of a temptation as are Lang & Heynes. Cheers, Bill
Hi Bill, would be great if you could do a in-depth review of D. Dornblüth & Sohn 99.1 or the Q-2010.2 Auf & ab. the 99.1 is heavily modified and 70% in-house, where is Q-2010.2 Auf & ab is completely in house. Very interesting/fulfilling experience dealing with them, you could actually pick the phone and talk to Dirk Dornblüth himself. They have a few others watches which are not in their catalog like Jasmin, 99.C. would be good to hear from you(in-depth review)
Hi Apar, that sounds like a good idea. I've looked at their watches and history, and they have some interesting pieces. That goes into the hopper, and I'll see what I can do. Thanks! Kindest regards, Bill
Thanks Bill
I like the F.P.Journe Resonance Chronometer. I also liked the Vacheron-Constantine Overseas, but that one you sold off. One interesting fact is that you don't have any Rolex in the collection.
Hi Frantisek! Have have on my FP Journe Chronomètre à Résonance and it's ready for a ride! Had to give up my VC OS for my wife's Bovet. No Rolex yet ... waiting for the right one ... if it ever comes along... Cheers, Bill
Impressive collection. Sometimes a bit too fancy dial for my taste but nevertheless impressive
Thanks Erik. I guess some of my collection looks fancy, but it's just what looked interesting at the time. Have you seen the hands on the Lang & Heyne Frederich III? Those are fancy! ... and interesting ... Cheers, Bill
Top class!
Hey Sergey! Thanks man! Cheers, Bill
Oh, and any one want to do a pool that Bill won't buy an new watch this year?!
😳!?
WatchArtSci he wants to set up a bet that you will buy a watch. ...
Nothing is impossible, but I really need to save up! Of course people do win lotteries...
Great Video :)
Mr. Bass! Great to hear from you man! Kindest regards, Bill
Fantastic collection Bill. You need that Rolex though. Explorer 2016 version is an excellent bang for the buck even at retail. Most regards!
Dallas Woods Thanks man! Why do I need a Rolex? If I get one it’s going to be Cellini Prince. An ideal sports watch for me is a Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti in that special green. The Explorer Polar would be sweet for swimming and/or fishing with my son, though.😎
Gosh that's an enviable collection.
Miss Clairessa Thanks! What watches do you collect? Kindest regards Bill
I collect vintage. Mostly American but I do have a couple of swiss. I like vintage because of their size. I'm dainty so anything above 30mm looks comical. If I were a man my collection would look very much like yours.
Hi Miss C. Collecting small and women's watches has distinct financial advantages. You can find great buys on some amazing watches. I pretty much stick to 37mm+ sizes and am most comfortable with around 40mm ±. Really big cases can look like wearing frisbees! I'll keep an eye out interesting smaller and women's watches. Kindest regards, Bill
Wow ...
Thanks Neil! Kindest regards, Bill
