This is so touching, leads me to share about 2 families from my small hometown in TX, and their only sons from the same class went to Vietnam and both gave their lives😔💙
I’ve never heard this song or story. At first, I wasn’t sure if either had been injured or died. I did catch her scarf and had wondered, but was hoping that there was a beautiful ending...both coming home, but alive. I’m not a military man. I now have 2 boys and I love them with all of my heart! I have faced death several times and am so glad that the Lord has blessed me with my family, even later in life. I don’t take family or life lightly. God has blessed me even more through this video...my heart is full of so much right now, tears of joy and compassion. God bless your family, all who read this, all of out veterans and America.🇺🇸 I know many of our Vietnam vets were treated poorly when they returned. On behalf of those who mistreated you, please forgive us. You did what you had to do! Bless You! 🥰

Almost all her kids died prematurely she outlived all of them. All her siblings are dead as of now and all of their children too only a few of their grandkids remain Johnsons & Downens are their surnames some in Tennessee and some in Missouri. She was tremendously missed by many and unfortunately overlooked and forgotten by too many

My brother went to Vietnam. He was 12 years older than me. I was about 7 when he went in. I was to young to really understand. But I knew he was not in a good or safe place. This is such a powerful & heartbreaking story. You can't get through it without tears. Afterwards, I was thinking about this wonderful lady & her sons from that time period compared to everything that's going on today. I know there are still young people who love God, our country & family, but not nearly as many. And while wondering what happened to so many of the younger generation & why they don't have those same values anymore, we also have to recognize that we don't have as many mothers & fathers teaching those values today.
I saw Bill Anderson and Jan Howard. It was in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She preformed this song. At 12 years old I didn't understand . She told the story of the song.
That is the most beautiful song I've ever heard it brought tears to my eyes and you sing so well I'm glad I got to listen to your song my son what a beautiful beautiful song😢😢💜💜🕊
Am watching ur video on my Mother’s Day here on the beautiful island of Saipan. Guam was part of the marianas before. Your story is a meaningful Mother’s Day story. Thank you! God bless JIMMY’s soul. Grace of GOD be with you always.
I cared my Uncle's were in the Vietnam war. Anyone that had family, friends, or new loves who went cared about our soldiers and what happened when they came home. Sorry to all the soldier's that served and didn't get treated well when they returned home. But, even more sorry for all the family's who lost a loved soldier in a far away land who didn't make it back home to loved one's or was missing in action or soldiers of war held as prisoner's of war.
I had two cousins who were brothers and both were in the Marines in the CV Viet Nam War. One of them flew in helicopters and rescued soldiers from the battlefield. When I was a teenager,I used to bake cookies for him and I put popcop around them as packing material. He wrote me a letter and asked me why I sent the popcorn like that. I mentioned that I had read about doing that in a booklet, so that the cookies wouldn't break during shipping. He just thought that it was a strange thing to do. About five years ago, he died and it was asked if anyone had anything that they wanted to say about him. So I went up and told how I sent him the cookies. After the funeral was over, one of his friends came up to me and told me how much he had appreciated me telling them about the cookies and what he said about it. I also thought that it was terrible.how some people treated those who.served during the Viet Nam War when they returned.
My brother was there at 17 and never was the same when he came back I watched the pain of my mom suffering his emotional scars all her life. Thank you for your service.
Same for Dean Martin when his son 'Dino' died in 1987. I never heard of her until today. My brother in-law retired Army Ranger 101st Airborne Ft Sill OK. (Gulf War under LTG Maples) Jean Shepherd died two years later 2016.
My son left me when he was 13. He ran away from home quit school a got mixed up w bad company a street life drugs a easy money he was rebellious a grew up to fast ,,,,,I learned to love him from a distance a pray for him night a day. That was 1990. Here it is 2020 he's still lost unsaved but still living he lost his family and kids due to the life style he lives I pray someday he will find God a be happy. Jan,I know now that you are with your two boys now. A happy reunion,I'm sure. You are/were one class act not meant to be replicated. God Bless you. RIP❤🙏
Surprised how solid her voice was. I actually think she sounds better at this age, that when I heard her as a young woman. While listening to her, without watching, I half expected to look up at Tammy Wynette. They had a similar sound, that Tammy found while young, and Jan, as she matured.
God Bless you, your family, and the sacrifice that your son made for serving his country. He Vietnam war was kind of senseless really, but aren’t they are all. My husband, Master Gunnery Sargent, Max L White, served in the United States Marine Corps for 25-26 years. I miss the military life, but my heart goes out to you. Wow 😢 idk what this show is but lovely support for her. IL research this. Thanks for sharing
I love that Song it Is Very Touching God Bless you Brave Mother
❤❤❤Jan❤❤❤ She is one of the best singers we will ever see. She was never given the credit and accolades she deserved for the amazing voice she had.
man oh man.. i saw this before but it REALLY hit me hard today!
Jan has passed on to join her son, this very personal price she paid, this is why we kneel, and this is why we honor our heroes!
What a beautiful story and song♥️
God Bless ,This was moving and BEAUTIFUL 💕 BROUGHT ME TO TEARS 💕 GOD BLESS TO YOU AND YOUR BRAVE BOYS 💕
I hope that all of your sons come home !! GOD BLESS THE USA,,,,,,,,,,
So sad .,but a lovely Singer .
And Mother.
Most importantly, thank you for writing this song. It is so surreal.
Bless You!🇺🇸❣️
