  • Upd: after more tests, i can see that the gaps between different barriers (that funnel the bugs) need to be quite large - one gap having the width of about two platforms (at least).
    You may think that you put a good gap between your two series of platforms, but bugs won't see the gap as viable path, and so the path around will become too long which will force them to go straight through the barrier.
    I also watched the video by waste on youtube ( • DRG: Deep Rock's Most ... ) and picked up a good idea - that you can increase the thickness of the barrier, which allows for increased barrier length and longer bug paths. Its useful if you need to secure a wall behind you on salvage op., one (maybe 2) more layer above the main one will allow to add platforms that lead the bugs to ground level and even a bit further, into two funnels on each side.

    After actually learning how to use bug repellant, It must be said that it is OP but mission dependent. It has unlimited potential and let’s you save enormous amounts of ammo at the expense of plastcrete ammunition

      It's not mission dependent. It's a must have for all missions.

      @@viktoriyaserebryakov2755 I disagree, something like on site refinery doesn't give it much use since you're moving around repairing pipelines. I dont know about the drillevator in the new season (Im on console and it isnt out yet) but based off what Ive heard I don't really think it'd be good for it either. Besides, the alternatives to the bug repellant upgrade aren't worth taking over it anyways

      @@minnabaru341When you're in the drillrvator enemies struggle to get to you. But you can still use it during the searching phase. Used it one time in a tunnel to make a hold out in haz5+ (We had no drillers to make a bunker)

      @@minnabaru341 Sorry, incorrect. You need this for Haz 5+ 2-2-2-2. Majority of the bugs are coming for you, not the pipes. You fight the bugs, THEN you mop up and fix the pipes. Which becomes laughably easy when you can predictably funnel them through about three choke points. The rig has a habit of spawning with its back against the wall meaning the bugs essentially spawn on top of it. With enough platforms I can completely erase that 180 degrees and never have to worry about it again.

      It saves some time, sure, but unless you're at the final stage of missions I wouldn't say it saves you ammo, you have to kill the bugs anyway

    Rock and stone, brother! The bugs must follow my rules now. When random players leave me alone, the gun platform holds one side and I hold the other, feels so good!

    My problem with repellent its that it splits the group in two instead of acting like a funnel, so if normaly the horde has a weird circle shape but now it splits into 2 or more lines with makes me feel like im using more ammo

      I would argue 2 tightly bunched groups is better than a sort of spread out wave. You can also increase the length on one side relative to your position to drive them into 1 group.

      Only if you stand directly in the middle. It only does that if it's your fault.

      @@viktoriyaserebryakov2755 from Cave testing, i find extra ammo and making a bridge more usefull even if they sometimes crawl from below, in this sandbox - box things appear clearer but once terrain enters the equation it changes dramaticaly, take fire/ice arrows for example they arent as good in caves as these flat terrain test show

      @@JacopoSkydweller it's possible but it's tricky, and that terrain bypass it's hard to predict at least for me, sometimes you can make a 6 plat wall and other times you can't, of course it isnt random but it isnt dead simple either once you add every other mission factor

      It's hard to play around and i would say it only synergizes with some guns, to me it's not the best option but a sidegrade for a playstyle

    Hey, nice video. Which mod are you using to test this on?

    • @doom_hamster
      @doom_hamster  3 місяці тому +1

      main one is Sandbox Utilities - mod.io/g/drg/m/sandbox-utilities
      Requires:
      mod.io/g/drg/m/mod-hub
      mod.io/g/drg/m/drglib
      Also this could be useful:
      mod.io/g/drg/m/damage-numbers
      mod.io/g/drg/m/custom-difficulty (to set difficulty to 4 player haz5)

    The general concensus ive learned from this is to keep taking ammo over bug repellent (Great vid tho!)

    • @doom_hamster
      @doom_hamster  3 місяці тому +9

      I think the repellent is so good for Salvage defence and Escort Duty defence. Maybe for Industrial Sabotage hacking stations too. These missions usually have plenty of nitra in reserve, so you can afford to take less ammo.

    • @riftpowers701
      @riftpowers701 3 місяці тому +6

      For higher difficulties, it actually isn't the consensus, in fact it is considered an essential and overpowered tool in modded difficulties because kitting bugs and creating chokepoints in order to be able to clear swarms with max ammo efficiency is vital there. Lower difficulties though, yes, it's a lot harder to make it work.
      You actually don't need to have the platforms touching btw, you can leave a small gap in between them to save up on platforms. It is great hunkering down for a bit in an appropriate area as well, it helps you manipulate AI behavior so you're not overwhelmed from all sides.
      Seriously, don't sleep on repellant, it's amazing.

      The video I saw, they basically make it seem like the path is much longer through the platforms, but sometimes that is still shorter than just going around.

    • @viktoriyaserebryakov2755
      @viktoriyaserebryakov2755 3 місяці тому

      @@doom_hamster The platforms don't need to overlap. The repellant effects extends beyond the platform itself by quite a significant amount so they don't even need to touch. If you go back and watch the video again when the bugs go around you can see they miss the platform by quite a bit. Multiply that space by two if you had a platform on the other side and that's how wide you can make it. It may or may not account for the hitbox of the bug itself I don't know, but if it does then that space could be even larger. Aquarq missions in particular I've been able to get away with six wide and two deep barriers all the way around the rig. Just make sure to put them a distance back away from where you expect to be defending. Shelves however are a different story, they do need to be overlapping as you benefit from forcing the bugs to traverse the length of both faces.

    • @doom_hamster
      @doom_hamster  3 місяці тому

      @@viktoriyaserebryakov2755 yeah i know, i just like the look more when they're overlapping. (check the video description, last YT link shows repellant zones).
      Also i thought the same about the shelves, that they benefit from overlapping, but wasn't sure.
