Today we posted a video talking about a time when we failed. Cole ended up on the ground of our hotel room during our anniversary trip. For so long, we didn’t want to talk about what happened because we were so upset about it. After thinking about it, we realized how important it is to share with everyone. No one wants to fail but the truth is, everyone does, and THAT’S OKAY! Don’t be afraid to talk about the bad or hard days because doing so may help others just as much!

About Roll With Cole & Charisma:
Hey everyone! We’re Cole & Charisma. Since the start of our relationship we've gotten a lot of questions about how we make things work as not only an interracial couple, but an interabled one as well. There are certainly differences, and despite them we have a great time, all the time! On this channel, you’ll find travel vlogs, Q&As, couple challenges, how-to/educational videos and more. We started this channel to bring people into our lives so we can answer some questions about how we navigate the world. We’ll show you behind-the-scenes stuff people typically don't see, and hopefully raise awareness surrounding accessibility and dating in a wheelchair. You'll quickly see in our episodes that we're all about positivity, inclusion, and keeping a great attitude no matter your circumstances, so if that's what you're into, you're in the right place!

Charisma my twin sister has MS, she has fallen three times this year, the last time she
fell out of the bath tub. We are 77yrs young. God has given me the strength each time
to get her in a chair or in the bed, I roll her on to a blanket, pillow under her head and drag her to the bed. In his name all things are possible. Last year I did call non emergency.
Charisma the love you have for Cole 😍 you will be a loving wife, mother, caregiver, friend
you are all he needs. Wish I had another 77years to feel the love you have for one another.
    Stay postive🙏🏽🌹😍

    Interable couple here!
Chris is a c4-c6. 10 years post injury. 4 years married.
He LOVES the outdoors. I do too, but I get so scared because he gets stuck or something happens to his 300 pound electric chair and i have to be the one to solve the problem 😖
We went for a walk in the woods (his idea) and I didn’t bring my phone.
Rolling along and BAM! gopher hole.
He tips right out and falls on the ground.
No one around. No way to call anyone.
    I go full blown this-is-why-I-don’t-like-going in-the-woods Mode.
He just smiles and says: “come lay with me and look at the clouds”
Ugh. How could I say no? I laid on the ground next to him and looked at the clouds. It was beautiful and peaceful. I did my best to cherish this moment in the midst of chaos, because when would we be able to look at the clouds like this again? It was beautiful ❤️
Until I realized we were laying on slugs. 😱
I jumped up and we started to finagle his power chair so I could get his butt on the peddles and lift him up with the controls so I could pull him by his pants onto the cushion.
    I felt like a superhuman.
A superhuman who wanted to go home and never go for a hike again 😂
I have several more stories of him falling out of his chair.
It’s good to know I’m not the only one who cries and wonders about the future.
It’s a big task and responsibility. You don’t understand it until you’re in it.
But someone told me “don’t let fear keep you from what you want in life”
We are stronger for what we face, even if we ‘fail’

I really expected this video to go the way of "so we gave up and went to bed and worried about it in the morning" 🤣 and I wouldn't have even seen it as a failure because what's it matter if he gets up right now or eight hours from now, so long as he gets up when he needs to ?

    I’m a quadriplegic married for 16 years.
Cooking forgot to put the brakes on my wheelchair and washing dishes by myself in the house. My husband was at work and my chair just sliding under me I had to decide to let myself go to the floor. Especially because the chair went far away from me. Water faucet was running, the stove was on. Phone was not close to me just my Bluetooth. To make a long story short I was able to reach to turn off the stove I had to let the water run and wait for my husband to come home for like two hours on the floor.
I am till this day proud that I did not panic. So, Yes, I can relate.

I can picture the whole incident!!
I’m a registered nurse and a large part of my job is assisting people, with varying mobility levels.
The whole way through your story, all I could think about was, “ I wonder if they have ever tried using a sliding sheet?!”
If you haven’t got one, or ever used one, I can tell you that it would actually come in really handy in situations like this, and also everyday life.
They are great for transfers, on top of your sliding board.
They are incredibly cheap, you can get one for $5-10. They weigh practically nothing and they take up no space, so you can bring it with you wherever you go.
They take all of the hard work out of transferring yourself or someone else. Even if you had it in this situation and Cole still fell, dragging him to the bedroom, on top of the sliding sheet would have taken a lot of the hard muscle work out of it.
I think the sliding sheets are made of nylon, either fold the sheet in half or use 2 sheets, depending on how far you need to move, and you will glide along so smoothly, with so little effort, you will be shocked.
Normally, you are supposed to have 2 people to help, but Cole has upper body strength, so you should be able to do it just yourselves with no problems. I have used it alone with patients who haven’t been able to help much, many times.
I hope you guys see this comment. It is such a cheap piece of “equipment “ and it would make such a huge difference in your lives. 😁💕

Omg, as an OT, I was shouting this immediately when she said they were going down lol! At first, I was like "I know you took the sheets off the bed to tuck under him.... ahh, shit she didn't use a sheet." But a sliding sheet I would definitely make an essential item, especially if they have plans to be alone.
I've seen a few things occur accidentally with my stroke and neurological patients, especially when they need to be lowered to the ground for a 1-person get up. It ain't pretty, but she made it work & I'm so happy she was able to get it done!
Thanks for sharing this comment. I hope they can see this as well!

No. Words. I’m so glad God showed up & showed out for you. My horror story (short version) involves my daughter, bleeding profusely in the waiting room of the emergency room. The staff were unconcerned and unresponsive. I called hospitals until I found one with an “empty” emergency room. I drove 20 minutes to the next hospital. By that time, blood was dripping down the front seat of the car to the floor. My daughter required 2 emergency surgeries. I did not pay the hospital bill (a whole lotta people heard from me!); I didn’t get to cry until days later. Like Cole said, sometimes you have to be strong to provide strength. My daughter would have panicked if I had panicked. God is faithful. I’m glad you’re in a better place because of your struggle. You learn something new every day. 💞💞

He had a stroke (5)yrs ago, which left him paralyzed on his left side. When this happened we where in the relationship for (6) months. I really like him so I knew I wasn't going to leave him. I didn't know nothing about taking care of a person in his condition, so yes I had doubts. Anyway, this day he had fell in the guest bathroom ( which is very small compared to our master bedroom (which is handicap accessible through the VA). Now I tried every way to get him off the floor. Charisma, I actually had to call (911). I was so so upset that I couldn't help him. My husband, told me that I did what I could do & stop being so hard in myself. But, @ that moment Charisma, I know how you felt TRUST ME!!!! Love you both ❤

Thank you sooooo much for sharing. I dated a quadriplegic that I wasn’t prepared for. I felt like I failed him when his traveling nurse didn’t show and I had to get him prepared for the day. It sorta ruined our relationship... because I wasn’t prepared... caught completely unaware of what to see and expect. He was understanding but. Had no way to rebound. If you guys were on fb then it would have helped me adjust and move forward. All things work together. I miss my friend though. That was really hard, guys. Thank you so much for sharing. I am not in an inter-abled relationship, but I thought of you guys today as I was going through my own struggles. I kept saying to myself-actually aloud-“Stay positive. Stay positive. Stay positive.” It was hard, but it did help, even if only to help me downgrade the mountain back into a molehill and keep things in perspective. Then tonight I watched this video...and it actually helped, you sharing the fact that you guys struggle too, have hard days too, but you MAKE IT THROUGH. LITERAL AND FIGURATIVE illustration of “we fall down, but we get up.” Sometimes we get bruised, cut, and come away sore, but we “get back up again,” heal, and move forward. You have no idea how much I needed this right now. Thank you so very much. 🤗❤️

As much I 20000% agree with you but BASED on Cole's situation it got me thinking. SOMETIMES if someone DOESN'T experience certain things, usually the NEGATIVE aspect of THINGS, the design and accommodation for the disability will NOT happen. Unless the disabled is the one who personally CREATE the technology of it.
There is a LIMIT to what the NON-disable can think ahead of if he/she doesn't experience it either personally or has seen it (first hand/by 2nd hand).
Them sharing this, MIGHT turned the lightbulb for some designers.
MAJORITY of time accidents NEED to happen in order for solution/technologies to happen.
      Just saying!

The hotel doesn’t have to be ashamed my lov. They can take this as a learning point instead and improve. There’s nothing to be ashamed about. The world is changing and we are definately making steps. Small ones but definately in the right direction. As more people speak up and create awareness about this issues and the importance of inclusion for everyone then people learn.
      Nothing shameful about it.

I beg you to stop saying this to people. It makes people feel (if they are religious) that they aren’t doing enough for God if they aren’t being healed. I started having awful symptoms a few years ago, it was scary. Everyone kept telling me to pray & I would feel better. It doesn’t work that way. It’s not a nice thing to say to people. Plus, the reality is he most likely always be in a wheelchair, & there is nothing wrong with that. Your comment makes it seem like there is something wrong with being disabled. I know you mean well, but it’s a very ableist comment.

I think you guys did an awesome job together. Reminds me a lot of my first years as a physiotherapist and some of the hairy transfers I had to do. Like being called to a portable MRI to transfer a person off the floor when you can’t bring the lift in because it’s metal or being called to the ED to do a transfer with a person who was over 700 lbs and had been brought in with 6 firemen. You just have to think on your feet and use the resources that you have on hand like you guys did just beautifully. Congratulations on your anniversary and don’t look at this incident as anything but a huge success of your teamwork and adaptability together. Lots of love. Tanya

God obviously had a greater plan for you on your anniversary than you had for yourselves. He wanted you to take another step on the journey of two becoming one. He wanted to show that with a union of minds, purpose and determination and with Him in the middle (a three-stringed cord is not easily broken), you are unbeatable!!!!!
