Man my friend, I’m a 64 year old white man who has fished all my life bass fishing. As I’ve gotten older I’ve lost my touch a little on catching bass so I’ve turned my interest toward crappie fishing. I’ve been following you and others to pick up tips from the experts. Thks for all you do in teaching and taking time to help others be successful on the water. I love seeing you spending time w/ your father, fantastic! You have a great personality about you, a clean show with Christian values that kids can sit in on too. Keep on keeping on! Throughly love what your bringing to the table. God Bless! 😎🇺🇸
I like the Bobby Garlands; I rig them like the good Mr. Richard Gene recommended on UA-cam. Jig head, tooth floss, super glue, and slide the jig on (gotta do it all FAST) with a squirt of fish attractor. I probably catch 8-12 crappie before I need to swap jigs. My go to colors are blue ice and neon pink. Berkeley Power Bait works is always great but I only get that when it's on sale - expensive stuff. It's always great to hear what others are doing, what their favorites are, and how they use it. Thank you sir.
Thank you for all the great info I'm just now getting into crappie fishing and you really helped me alot on some of the soft plastic keep on fishing my friend..
On the Tiny Flukes if the crappie want a smaller bait you can cut some of the head off the bait 1 3/4 to 2 inches works great... so cut off 1 to 1 1/4 inch and they will eat it up sometimes...
i bite part of the jigs off all the time, thats good knowledge right there... My last video i bit a piece of my jig off for a smaller presentation. Thanks for watching!
Wow right on time lol I have spent 4 hours on You Tube this morning researching everything about Crappie fishing ,, wanting to get into it with my new boat ,,, I was going to Academy this morning to get a tarp for my boat ,, guess I am getting some crappie baits :)
Really good stuff Fishing Ken!!! I use a lot of the same but did pick up on some different ones that you described in the video. I have used Berkley power bait 3" minnows which come are in a scented liquid. They will destroy them but they are not tough at all. I take my Mr. Crappie and Bobby Garland baits and put them in the Berkley scented liquid and that works real well. Give it a try if you haven't already. BTY.... Got me a Echomap + 93sv with Livescope from "THE BASS TANK" last week. Oh Yea!!!! It's on man. Keep'em Tight!!
Yes... Zeke is awesome. He asked me how I found out about them and I said "Fishing Ken at HCTV"!! I could have ordered the system from THE GPS STORE but I decided to give them a call after hearing what you said about your experience with them and I'm glad that I did. Nothing like dealing with a individual and not a company who could give a rip about you after the sale. Thanks Ken.. Talk Soon
Do you remember those Creme jigs Academy use to sell? Creme, Town House and those Trout Magnet jigs was what I used from there...... They stopped selling those because you could catch fish almost all day with one bait.... I started tying then they stopped selling those baits.....
Fish do see color but not like us. You pick your colors based on the clarity of the water along with sun light or light in general to help them see it. The earth rotates 24/7 so when the bite slows on one color try another. Anyway good video and good store.
Have you tried Kenders lures? The jig heads and some of the actual lures are made from tungsten so the profile is small but all the weight you need to cast. Popular in the northern midwest for ice fishing. Also check out Nikko baits, these are Japanese lures that are a bit different than what we are use to using. Small crankbaits and spinnerbaits catch bass sized crappies! In bass fishing, you use dark lures in stained water because it cast a dark silhouette and the fish can see it better just as you would use bright colors in clear water which has a similar effect. BTW great video, information, and thanks for more motivation for me to get my butt in gear and make the move to Big Tex real soon! Gone get those realistic minnows man!
I know you didn't cover what I'm gonna talk about, but in several of your videos, I've seen you using what looks like a large book, with all of these plastic holders that you've filled with different Crappie lures (jigs). That's a really smart idea! I love it! Always make sure that you keep that book in a cool, dry place. I know that that's a no-brainer, but, if you think about it, look at the old plastic tackle boxes of the past, and think about the way that, if you're going through hot weather, the sun beating down on the tackle box can literally melt the rubber bodies of the artificial worms & such. I've seen it happen personally, and, of course, when that happens, you have to go back to the store, and re-buy those same kinds of artificial lures all over again! That definitely runs you into a good bit of money! I've had to learn that lesson the hard way! The old saying is true:"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"! Thanks for the new video, hope you're feeling well, and God bless you and your family and your Friends!
Powerbait realist minnow is decent. Me and a few family members use the them typically under bridges which we stay in southern Illinois. I would like to see what you think about them. Won’t hurt to try
Fishing Ken, you always keep “the main thang the main thang”!!! Simplicity! Hook City has to be humbly proud to have a son to represent the city in the era he came up. K Mart was my academy. I have been wetting a hook for a long time and I like your approach to fishing. Keep on sharing the love and passion of your faith through such a rewarding sport.
I've used those Berkley baits and they do work well. I fish crappie tournaments so I'm always looking for new baits. You can find some good baits in the walleye section also. Also I've caught some donkeys on smaller bass tubes.
This is great content. In my early days of learning to fish Crappie the Walmart had a lure that was exceptional. Haven't seen it again in a very long time 🤔 a small metal jig head with a feathery almost cotton like dress...
they work! I usually mess with them during the spring. They are really tough baits and have a smaller presentation. I get them at walmart but academy has them too
Been watching several fishing UA-cam channels. Yours seems to be one of the more informative. Really like the way you walked through the store critiquing the different baits. Well done. Did you try the Berkley minnow?
They have them at Bass Pro Shops and on eBay. Could you try them as a subscriber challenge on a video? Here is the link to them. www.basspro.com/shop/en/berkley-powerbait-power-nymph?searchTerm=Power%20nymph
Hey What about night fishing under those super bright green LEDs in the water. All the baits were flashing past me. Looking all flashy and silver. I tried a lot of stuff but only got 2. TWO!! THANKS
i have not had any bites on the berkley power bates i have tryed 2 natural colors yes they do look like very natural minnow.Hope this helps. Not worth the money..
that will work. I also keep a variety of colors, both with and without eyes. Not that they are necessary, just what i like. Pink and orange are my favorite colors for heads
I love the berkley gulp minnows but bobbie garland is a tuff bait compared to the gulp. never tried the power bait you showed so I would love to see a review of them. best of luck
The biggest problem with Garland and Mr. Crappie and Academy is the representatives from these companies almost never restock their products once its gone , its gone till next season's run .
Thanks fishing ken those are most of the jigs I started out with when I first start jigging, until I was introduce to billy Morgan and stump thumper ...
I like the softness of the Bobby Garlands, but they def have to be glued 100%. The Jokers are also customizable. You can cut them up different ways for different looks and actions. Same with any curly tail. I still have some of those 3" powerbaits. If you're in a boat on top of crappie they're probably alright. But man, fishing blind with no electronics from the bank or barge, they'll get you everything but a crappie somehow
Great information thank you
Thanks for the advice it help me a lot and those baits works very well for other species of fish god bless

For spinnerbaits I use the soft sided c.d. cases
cd case from walmart. They last about a year or two if you keep them from getting wet
Preciate the info 💯
Yes give it a try
Very informative......thank you.
Powerbait realist minnow is decent. Me and a few family members use the them typically under bridges which we stay in southern Illinois. I would like to see what you think about them. Won’t hurt to try
We made a video on the realistic minnow, fishing timber. It did catch a fish but the summer bite we were on had us using much smaller baits
Have you ever thought about using Bink's Spoons for crappie?
I need to order some. Ive heard they are really good in the fall and winter. That would be a really cool review video

@@HookCityTV ok thanks and I am definitely going to try the tiny fluke for crappie
What's up Fishen Ken , what your take about crappie magnet or panfish magnet ?
Ricardo G. They are crappie killers. Both the Magnet and the Slab Magnet 🧲 I love ‘em!
they work! I usually mess with them during the spring. They are really tough baits and have a smaller presentation. I get them at walmart but academy has them too

We use the gulps, they look very similar less the eye but do great with them in murky water.
What do you think about the Patriot color
Its flashy. Good clear or light stained water jig color
This is one of your best videos ever! I would like to see you try those Berkley’s. Also could you try the Berkley Power Nymph?

I've caught crappie on the Berkeley power bait when nothing else works. It's a great bait to fish at night under the lights.
You need the Gulp minnows on that list. I have been out and been the only one catching when friends were using bobby garlands and strike kings.
Good vid. I'd like to see your rig for the tiny fluke.
Go for it on the Berkley, Ken!
