Never played Napoleon but I'm a huge Empires player, watching this video I noticed something I had not noticed before. But the animations seem like they have less frames, and the models looked less detailed, the artillery in particular seem to have less than half the polygons of Empire's Artillery. Do you have the graphic settings turned down? Or was this their solution to Empire's bad performance issues I wonder.
Yeah that's the usual way of playing it. I played it like this because I wanted to finish the battle with as few casualties as possible. If you noticed here I finished with two units that almost didn't engage at all.
Idk, I always found the defensive approach there kind of boring as the AI has a great flanking opportunity then yet never takes it. Great video regardless. :)
The only place where the river can be crossed is between the two sets of rocks, so they can only attack head on in this instance. Napoleon kinda did a similar thing irl. When the Austrians attacked his bridgehead in this position he blasted them with every available gun from across the river. He already had some troops across though so it's not exactly the same.
@@AemondOneEye if I remember, the austrian larger force (on our left flank) has a bridge that leads to our starting position, that's the flank I was referring to
why people aren't fighting enemy infantry with the most thin lines possible? in this way you use just one regiment for a big portion of terrain, anyways, i tried the battle with your suggestions and it worked :) But i would recommend sniping with arty the enemy general from the beginning, and i would've moved on battery to that crossing to turn it into a killing zone
This was the first time I played the battle like this, I hoped they would attack across the river but sadly they don't go much further than this. Since they don't do that, you can obviously move the artillery next to the river and use grapeshot for massive damage. I tried to use a realistic strategy though so I didn't do it.
Nice strategy, Napoleon would be proud to have you as one of his marshals :D
Honored to hear this :)
Napoleons finest
The Best one
This game is great
Impressive! Really good details here.

wait people play this as a defensive battle? i always rush the marches and use the chokepoints to encircle the enemies

Oh you mean far away at the back. Well yeah they'd probably try that if this was a real battle.
Very cool

They need a remake or remaster. I love the time period but these graphics are shit
Where are their shoes?
It's a historical reference to the Army of Italy being so underpaid that some of them couldn't afford to buy shoes.
try the grand battle mod
