Taz Mania is a 2D side-scrolling platform video game developed by Recreational Brainware and published by Sega on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992. The game is based loosely on the Taz-Mania cartoon series. Similar but alternative versions of the game were also developed by NuFX and released on the Sega Game Gear and by Sega itself on the Sega Master System. Other different Taz-Mania games were also developed by Sunsoft and released on the SNES and 2 games on the Game Boy were made too. One from David A. Palmer Productions and published by Sunsoft and another from Beam Software and published by THQ.
Players control Taz as he searches for a giant egg. Taz is able to jump, spin into a tornado and eat various objects. Spinning into a tornado allows Taz to defeat most enemies, as well as gain extra jump distance, knock away items and get past certain obstacles unharmed, it also gives him a speed boost. -

That minecart level is forever welcomed to kiss my ass.
same, just watching it gives me anxiety
*_This game was nightmare fuel._* Just the silence in the desert with those monsters walking around. Brr.
this game used to scare me when I was a kid. I think it was those awful loud sounds...
I thought I was the only one, this game is creepy, the sounds are very weird
It sounds like somthing hitting a keyboard , don’t remember it sounding that bad 🤣
Lmao it’s not musical in anyway, but somehow works for the kind of atmosphere they were trying to create for Game. I have Taz Escape From Mars not this, and the music in that is actually good.
I miss this game so bad! My mom would help me and my 2 brothers play this, and at night when she put us to bed and my dad would get home from work, they would play all night
24:04 Barrel section of carnival zone act 2.
Except here jumping up and down works, whereas that barrel of doom you were SUPPOSED to use up/down on the d-pad to get past. Not that there was any indication of that anywhere.
Gotta love the fact how starting at 2:10, the player already makes fun out of the game's broken engine.
The game is not broken, the player is cheating and using a emulator that's why it was doing that
That's emulated, it doesn't work that way on an actual Sega Genesis console.
There was a debug cheat mode in the original game as well that could allow you to go through walls and stuff. I remember using it.
You're all fucking wrong, you can do that anywhere in the game, if there's no floor below you Taz does that.
Taz-Mania wasn't a particularly bad game as such but just a lot more difficult and frustrating than what it should have been. The minecart stage was a bit like the turbo tunnel from Battletoads in a way but with no warning for obstacles so it was very much a trial and error stage. Bizarrely the later levels were easier than the early levels with the exception of the minecart and mine lift levels.
It had warnings for obstacles but it gives little time to react.
Apart from the stages in the mines, the game is quite simple due to the imbalanced spin attack. During the attack, Taz is invulnerable, and the duration of the attack can be infinite. This was more or less corrected in the sequel, where a collision with an enemy knocks Taz back and stops the attack. In this game, the enemies pose absolutely no danger, the fire bonus and the jump attack do not make sense, and the bosses are completed in 10 seconds without any damage due to the imbalanced attack. The only element of difficulty remains in the platforming in the elevator shaft, as falling past means instant death, and with minecarts requiring memory and quick reactions. The levels after the mines are easy to complete without a single loss of life, even the fire from the Egyptian statues will not harm you if you are spinning. Therefore, the game can be reproached for the “wrong” ease, but not for the complexity.
It wasn't THAT hard...but games back then were generally a lot more difficult as they didn't hold your hand the whole time and the challenge was part of the fun. I find games now all way too obvious, easy and the hand-holding throughout is pretty lame.
My third Mega drive game as a kid. Those dmn elevator jumps, never could get passed those when I was a kid :(
I didn't even get that far because I kept hitting the top of the mine
I feel your pain bro, I was the same!
Same
@@pauljamesheath9598 It wasn't that hard. You would have just needed to play a few more times. There's only one or two parts in the elevator levels that require some timing and the mines only require you to memorize the route and where to speed up or slow down.
Me and my siblings were 4,6 and 8 years old and none of us had a hard time.
First game I ever owned right here, and I forgot it was such a noisy mess!
It sounded good for a looney toons cartoon and looked alright but the game's level design is trash XD
I loved the animated show from
childhood and the game itself that can be challenging at times though....
Since he only thinks about food, Taz has no idea how valuable a giant seagull chick would be!
I once rented this game from Video Update! I was the only one who actually played this game. My brothers didn't want anything to do with it! 😁
I have spent almost one hour to get through the elastic elevator
I stopped at the minecart level.
It always took me a long time as kid. Recently i figured it out but now i already forgot :)
I LOVE THIS GAME!
I remember my step dad renting this and a mega drive from Blockbuster. We tried to get Sonic but it was outta stock.
Glad I got this instead, good memories
Loved this Game but damn I was about 9 or 10 when I played it miss those times... Original Outcast/ Original Cool kids.
Sonic: Hey! You Ate My Logo, Taz! I'll Use My Spindash!
I loved this game as a kid! I hope they do a re release of Tazmania , but have both the snes and genesis versions on it.
+cwing1028 That would require both Sega and Sunsoft working together on the project, as Sunsoft published the SNES version.
FlyingDuckMan360 it’s a nice dream to have even if it can’t happen
Licensing would be a whole other can of worms.
I've Got The Original Sega Mega Drive Video Game Of Taz Mania From eBay Last Year Back In Christmas 2019 And It Was Super Awesome. Thanks Mate. X
Such great graphics for its time...But such horrid music and sound effects. Still, I played this one a lot as a kid. I had even memorized the mine cart level and could beat it without getting hurt. I don't think I could do that now.
I love the music and sound effects a lot :) This was and still is one of my favorite games
@@arcadedbeast Definitely a classic
But wasn't the intention of the sound effects just to imitate the cartoonish sounds we saw in the animations?
The music in this game is excellent jazz improvisations, and in some levels it works interactively. For example, in a level with a large tree, each step plays its own separate chord. In addition, such an avant-garde soundtrack emphasizes the crazy character of Taz. The music in this game has gone further and wider than in most Genesis games.
It’s a divisive game, to be sure, but I loved it! Difficult gameplay (regardless of what anyone says), great animation and a very avant-garde and memorable soundtrack. Maybe I’d hate it nowadays but there’s such nostalgia to it 😊
Bleaagh blah bleh!!!
20:13 the dreadful minecart level.
Grande vídeo amigos.
Gameplay sounds so weird and creepy...
agree!
YES! A Taz Mania Longplay!
1:55 HAA! Didn't know you can down jump a geyser. 2:15 Down jump fun.
2:29 This one was hidden! 3:19 I am jamming to it! 4:12 Something is wrong with my head!
5:22 BOOM! 7:27 Admire the spinning sound! 7:56 Crushed!
8:42 I found a strange trick with the box. When I launch to the opposite direction quickly after the grab, the box pushes me. 9:14 OUCH! 9:39 ROASTED!
10:18 Impatience. 10:37 SHOCKING, isn't it? 11:19 Like the commercial: Electricity? HA!
12:59 Best music. 13:33 TAZ WAS FROZEN, TODAY! 14:09 DA DOU DI DA DEUH! Two finish signs for the win!
15:49 Meow master. 16:20 Triple combo! 16:45 Welcome vertical level. 18:06 Francis!
18:49 The river is hell on hard mode! 18:52 Plants are delicious! 19:13 Aaw... It didn't kill it.
19:59 XD!
20:06 The level I love but everyone hate! 21:07 Favorite music, remind me of Wile E Coyote.
22:38 NOPE! 23:18 WOW! Is that timing?! 24:04 Barrel of doom's cousin. Didn't bother me.
24:59 I did a similar thing but without landing on that 8 running elevator. Thank you TAS!
25:11 On Hard mode, this is as far as I go. They could have feature a shadow.
I call the mini crocodiles Lacoste. 25:57 The beginning of hell!
26:18 Wait a minute, look at this crocodile on the log. Then it reappears on the other side of the screen! There is a pattern!
26:41 Audrey2's den. 26:48 WEED KILLER! 27:01 UH-OH... 27:31 Simple is that!
28:08 We can avoid it. 29:14 Taz-Mania features its own dead pit.
30:09 More Roasting. I wonder what is the point to add checkpoint near the end of level?
32:13 Same as the first temple. 34:17 Taz goes Sonic Adventure 2.
35:00 Hello, Stone Guy! Long time, no see! 35:03 EGG! 36:50 YES EGG! *Crack* WHAT?!
37:49 Yes, that a thing! 37:54 PLOUF! 37:58 OUCH! 38:06 He even blinks! More Mine Fail!
Graphics on this version so much better than the Master System version i had in the early 90s but i was poor lol I did get a Snes in 1994 though then in 1998 a PS1
Love how for the sega screen in this game consists of taz spinning up to the sega logo and eating the s part of the logo
Tetiana Pushnova!!
@@plume... Ага. Я её фанат.
Согласен игра зачёт. Звук резковат, есть немного диссонанса. А так отличная прорисовка.
My childhood 😄😄😄
From MEGA issue 1 "MEGA says: Brilliantly entertaining, but not all that demanding, Taz-Mania is perfect for the kids, and for those of you who can afford to spend lots of dosh on games which you'll finish in three days." #19 in their top 100
Hard to believe that the full gameplay is just under 40 minutes! When I was about 7 or 8, I’d spend hours on this and I don’t think I ever completed it! It was the biggest bastard of a game I ever owned! Loved it! Any critic that said it wasn’t challenging was talking complete nonsense! 😂
very strange game was.... and those walking stone with that ambient drop shit out me
This is one of the first Sega games not named Sonic I remember. Good times.
The final boss is a giant seagull .... why... WHYYYYYY
In the history taz goes for their eggs.
Probably an albatross?
Starting @ 20:20, things get really tricky & you have to raise the cart at certain times & avoid crashing, otherwise you have to start over, but if you do it correctly, it will take less than one minute as shown at 21:00
The ost for this game is straight 🔥
Fantasy: "Hey, let's make a video game soundtrack that recreates wacky cartoon sound effects! It'll be great!"
Reality: [ 60 minutes of discordant bloops and fart noises ]
Best game on the mega drive. Beautiful animation. But sound....
Worst game more like.
Fun and interesting game!
This is kind of weird music and sound. Also, this reminds me of a commercial I watched of the Genesis version when I was a kid. Oh, and the commercial brought us this (before the shock at 11:19): "Electricity? Careful, dear! Ha! It'll toast your eyeballs!" XD Nice one!
I swear I played this on MS. But ive forgotten the game now. Bloody to old now to remember every game ive played and every system they tie into in some cases.
This game is so funny lol
The sounds tho 😂😂
Taz has learned the hakyoko senkei sempuken tech with Tung Fu Rue,as Tery Bogard.
N learned the fire breath with Dhalsim.
Played this game for years never finished it
Me neither 20:13 i've never been able to complete that dammit level
i used to watch his shows on Cartoon Network when I was little lol Baby Loony Tunes wasn't bad either it was pretty good!
In 1993 I used to come home from school as a kid and watch adventures of sonic the hedgehog and taz mania and biker mice on tv
@@johnmax9386 I bet you did bro. I was just in dippers in 1993. I used to watch taz mania, sonic the hedgehog, sonic underground, & biker mice on tv as well. those where the dopes days.
This game is making me hungry
Just because you can have dynamic music in your game, does not mean you should. GEMS was a mistake.
Underated gem
Man i just live streamed this last night
I beat this game, but hated the blind jumps
This was the first game I ever completed
34:15 taz mania twins
The most sounded game.
For those complaining about the sound, the game sounded surprisingly good a western Megadrive game, most of them sounded awful.
It was designed to take advantage of the GEMS chip being able to synchronize music to gameplay easily.
38:33 You've tortured me enough I want out...
I got this version on my genesis
Taz in Escape From Mars next. Functionally similar to this game.
34:15 taz mania brothers
Bon jeu
coloré
( rapide ) speed
fluide
hasard rapide
Bon Game
I had a chance to get this game. And I said no. Was that a good decision.
Great for rental, not purchase.
Yes. Game isnt very good
Because of the poor sound and strange mechanics, i used to think this game was an unlicensed hack.
Everyone talking about the elastic elevator but i wonder how did you pass this dammit level 20:13 impossible for me
Nunca pude terminar el juego de niño xq jamas pase esa parte en el vagón
@@JuanXPManuel yo tampoco pude, lo hicieron re dificil
One of the games that I did manage to finish unlike Earth Worm Jim. I still don't get that one.
one of the worst uses of the GEMS sound driver
It weird because the developers of this game were also the creator of GEMS
Le Docteur
Yeah, they were experimenting with one of its functions to create dynamic music, to feel like an actual episode. No wonder that function wasn’t used often.
I love the music and sound effects in this game
One of the best uses
It’s one big fart sound.
18:53 You can eat the carnivorous plants.
Bien
as a kid i could never do the tunnle part so i never completed the game
Got it
I think the sound effects are like that because a lot of old cartoons would use musical stings with or as sound effects. I can see an actual looney tune episode using these types of musical stings whenever taz makes a huge jump or poses like in the game here. The problem is that in a cartoon, it would only come up once or twice during an actiony part and emphasized in context, but in a platformer, you have to do these kinds of actions a lot. The loud stings end up being too much for the situation. This tries too hard to be a cartoon and ends up being annoying, loud and confusing.
The mega drives sound card doesn't do the game any favors either..
Hola que programas usas para hacer tus videos
Eye candy / ear poison
34:15 same two tazmania or tazmania twin brothers
What's wrong with this game?!
Apart from the collision detection? Taz's controls.
man i hated this shit...
damn i wasn't lucky buying games back in the day lol
What is this disaster of a soundtrack? Shoot me.
i never liked the taz games because the picture always seemed way too zoomed in for my liking and close up
One of my fav game for the mega drive but I just wish they did a better job on the music that was the only thing I disliked
Eva Sega mega drive model 2 ntsc pal this case game
The music wasn't great in this, reminds me of Atari coin-ops like Paper Boy, Toobin', Hard Drivin' etc. It's like they used the same set of sound banks!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
GEMS was likely designed around similar midi tools to what Atari would have used.
I used to just tornado spin all over the place and die a lot. Boring rental.
Why aren’t more people talking about how bad the music and sound are 🤣🤣😭
jil mullen girlfriends ex 1992 Sega mega drive model 2 av s cable make up off lukiegames controller so learned

Nope, this game plays terribly. The SMS version is totally superior to this version.
I had this game as a kid and could never get past the elevator part in the mine... but oh boy... that music is just awful. Why did western developed Genesis games have such godawful music?
Cheater
this game looks so awful
better then the vomit inducing mode7 snes game
OMG... this game looks horrible...
Worst game in history
