Sir I have one query. Suppose for instance alphonso mangoes are grown in two different regions with its own distinct quality and taste. So can both be granted GI tags?
Madhya Pradesh is ostracized from basmati growing regions, as it's appeal went futile, to get GI tag, in the GI registrar office Chennai. This matter was in issue for years, till 2018 farmers were producing and exporting basmati grown in MP to overseas. But, now basmati rice grown in MP state will not be called or considered as basmati rather ordinary rice, because soil lacks in begeting rice of standards required to call it basmati. China, USA and Pakistan(to extend present area) had also tried to get GI tag, to grow basmati, but not given. This saved the interest of indian farmers of the particular region:haryana; Punjab; Delhi; western U.P., whose livelihood depends on growing basmati.
