I use to work for TWA back in the good old days. Two things I loved about the Concorde. When walking through the employee parking lot, and the Concorde departed. the roar it generated set off everybody's car alarm. The whole lot was set off. It always made me smile. The other thing was watching it depart while it was raining. When the Concorde rotated, the flames from the afterburners [its what I call them] pointed down onto the runway and would turn the rain water into steam. Loved watching that.
Wow...It's a wonder you guys didn't have to replace you batteries on a regular...I'm sure that plane took off every day, setting car alarms off...Lol...
Oh how my eyes still well up, when in sadness I watch you go, you flew of into the sunset in a style no one else could show, an era was ended in the trail you left when you ascended , my dream shattered only to a memory that's all I can now afford, to you my speed bird love one and only concord. To the memory of concord...hats off to the posters of this video.
I flew between LHR and JFK a number of times back in the day. The departure from JFK was always thrilling, that immediate sharp bank after lift off - amazing ride! I am blessed to be able to say 'I used to travel supersonically - when I was younger! ' No matter how many times you flew on Concorde it NEVER lost it's magic.
I've never flown on the plane, but I did get to see it land and take off at the EAA in Oshkosh, WI back in 1990. It was super loud on take off for sure. What a beautiful aircraft.
My birth was just shy of Concorde’s last flight. I just see videos and hear stories. I think its sad how the crash of a single plane caused the crash of the whole company.
I was sad to see the airplane go... Me and my crew teams have been on the Concord three times to reposition us back to JFK... I will miss this aircraft..... Love it, I really love it..... Great aircraft..
It became problematic when the schedule was reduced to once a day from twice. The regular customers ceased using it as they used to use it like you'd use a train to get to work and back on the same day. When it was reinstated after the tragic crash, it wasn't making that money anymore. I worked at Heathrow for BA at the time. Ground staff..and I regularly was given Concorde ground duties. Strange fact: rows 1 and 2 were always blocked out for use by not the celebs, but for the big industry heads, bank bosses etc. A sort of hierarchy in the allocation of the seats. The regulars always took a look when boarding to see who was sitting in those rows. There's other weird stuff I could tell you about it but this isn't the forum for it. Anyway, I can tell you that BA staff was so sad on its last day. Very emotional time. I agree with you that if it was flying today, all these overnight tiktok, UA-cam millionaires would be riding it just to get their likes etc..and it would probably keep this beautiful bird in the sky for a while into the future...at least until the climate brigade would bring it down anyway.
tough to believe that morning will make it a HALF DECADE, right down to the day, since this incredible video was created. How incredibly saddening. RIP Concorde
we need to fly concorde again i think we should have atleast one concorde flight in a week. we shouldnt be scared to operate a lovely fast flight like concorde if we can handle going to space and manage to come back safe after a few days . we can afford concorde the Great show of human brain. Wish again to see concorde flying .. support this flight ! live with challenges . those who fear die everyday those who are brave die only one Day .
He does bring up an interesting point... it must've really been exciting at Heathrow when there were so many multiple Concorde arrivals coming in from different places (Bahrain, Washington/Miami, 2x New York, etc) all the time. Oh well, gotta give BA credit for at least sticking it out with two foreign Concorde destinations until the very end.
I saw THEE last flight of Concorde, into Bristol's FILTON airfield, where she was built in 1979. G-BOAF. THEE last one built, Now in her brand new Museum there.
@SunnySahotaBA Thanks a lot... Yes, I am missing this bird so much...Until we, the USA, starts to have a new supersonic, there will not be nothing else like that aircraft. Yes, I do like the 777-200's and 747-400's for the space of new seats but we do not have any supersonic aircraft for commerical use right now.
Truly the one and only time man made a machine in God's image. Such a beautiful aircraft, and a day in which mankind took a technological step backwards. God Bless Concorde...
Im glad they placed G-BOAC at EGCC(manchester ringway) its an icon of the aviation park (along with a DC10, Trident and a BAE aircraft) Beautiful aircraft. Just a shame I wasnt actually into Aviation when the plane was in service :( Still an Icon to the Aviation world even in 2008 and for many years to come. R.I.P old girl :)
The man talking is more unique than a man who has gone into space, yes I believe that more people have gone into space than have piloted concorde, for that reason i have a huge amound of respect for him.
Read up on it mate. BAe was founded in 1977 do some research before you comment. and yes BAe did service this aircraft because my good friend works for BAe
@phillyguy95 Well, in a nutshell, she was 34yrs old and had put in 27yrs of service. During that time, her overall costs had risen to a point where one airline alone couldn't support it. After the crash of ship F-BTSC and the market fallout from Sept 11: Air France wanted out. With them gone, Airbus decided to discontinue maintenance support, forcing British Airways to wind their service down too. The aircraft's certificate of airworthiness is now revoked, so it cannot fly.
I do enjoy fying, a lot op people don't. They, however, do love to cross the atlantic in 5 hours instead of 3 weeks with a boat. Concorde, early 747s, a380 are special. They are the biggest or fastest of biggest heap of vaporware (787). I never flown supersonic. But the in the case of concorde you flew twice as heigh as a normal airliner and twice as fast...that`s fun no matter how you put it ;)
@DrCooler1000 Primarily I think it was because fuel costs became too high. $10,000 a ticket was a lot as it was! I would imagine that increasing maintenance costs were responsible too. There was an old circuit board that wore out and they had to completely redesign it from the ground up with more modern electronic components. That cost 3 million pounds, if I remember correctly.
Lets all blame Mc-Donnell Douglas for there most dangerous airplane, the DC-10 which brought down the marvelous work of the 20 century. I miss Concorde. I can just remember it flying over our heads in the night time. Lets all take the DC-10 OUT OF SERVICE!!!!
We live in the times of cheapness where class has no place. This marvel belongs to times long past, now it's the time of the ugly A380 with lots of Chinese made components transferring as many people as possible for maximum profit.
BA lost themselves the most recognisable and noticable figurehead ever! i doubt that many other passanger aircraft would get full live news coverage on more than one network for both takeoff AND landing!!! they should have kept at least one running, concorde was an advert for British (and french) engineering! it made BA a memorable airline!
@Porrly Don't be a fool. The Concorde was just one of many planes that could take you anywhere you wanted to go. It would do that at a very high speed but could only take 100 people at a time.and therefore was very inefficient as a 747 could hold 4 times the amount. Taking speed into account and capacity you would need more then two Concordes to take 400 passengers acoss the Ocean in the time it takes one 747 to do that. So i would say the 747 replaced the Concorde.
@MarcusLeepapi Yes, I agree with your comment... We went backwards.....The only thing now is to wait for someone to gives us the supersonic flights soon.... We wil see....Thanks.... Happy Summer to you...Stay cool....
PITY THE FRENCH COULDN'T AFFORD THE COST OF VITAL UPDATES FOR SAFETY ISSUES ETC, AND EXCERSISED THE CLAUSE IN THE CONTRACT AGREEMENT, WITH UK, THAT IF ONE AIRLINE ABANDONED THE CONCORDE SERVICE, THE OTHER WOULD HAVE TO, ALSO.
There was an initial effort to keep G-BOAF in airworthy condition, but the cost basis proved insurmountable. Concorde is not like a vintage WWII prop fighter, where one or two skilled mechanics, equipped with the proper tools, could easily keep it in flyable condition. It took the whole of BACE's efforts, and Airbus' mtx support, to keep the fleet operating. The costs just couldn't be justified to do the same for a single aircraft.
HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY COMPARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT CONCEPTS. AS A US ASTRONAUT SAID, CONCORDE WAS THEE, GREATEST TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE 20TH CENTURY, BAR NONE.

Yes of course in the end this was a major factor but at the start Concorde's service fuel prices were not much of a factor I may be wrong however i believe it may have been more economical tnan the boeing 707s of the time. As a Pilot and aviation enthusiast I am aslo deeply saddend by the loss of this beautiful Aircraft.

@01276609329 The only reason the Concorde wasn't allowed to land all over in the U.S. is because of our citizen's outrage over the idea of the sonic boom happening daily... they don't understand that the Concorde can be flown subsonic- so they over-react to over-hyped news stories- just as you reacted to the over-hyped NY story in the UK news. Concorde brought so much excitement to the skies. So thrilling to be alive during this time when it was in the air.
Lovely last departure from jfk.Speed like bullet. Most powerful and trusted machine ever.

I'll say. Bit like driving an F1 car and then being forced to drive a Ford Mondeo or something. I suspect most of them retired.

Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Fuel usage between two such engines would NOT be a linear function, and there's factors than just displacement and cylinder count that would contribute to fuel use over a given distance: velocity, torque, payload, intake air density, ambient temperature, acceleration, etc.
That's something even an 8th grade physics student should be able to figure out. lol
