    What do you do to the wood surface of the topper to protect it from getting soaked with urine and smelling? Or, do you just leave it untreated?
    I’d worry about building a topper only for it to get smelly and gross over time.
    Thanks!

      The wood is coated with protective white paint, so the urine isn't absorbed into it. If I notice any urine I just wipe it off with a baby wipe. Its been almost 6 months and so far nothing has absorbed. :)

    What is the ratio of clean and cozy paper bedding to aspin to hay that you use? Equal parts of each?

    What do you use to sift the bedding?

      I mostly use my hands, all the poops and food generally fall to the bottom. I used to use a strainer or a collinder, but it made the process drag on for hours

      @@TheGerbilVine if you did the sifting you could use a vacuum to get what fell to the bottom of the tank?

      @@Tracor3k99 yes you could. I use a small broom and dustpan.

    How often do you do this?

      I used to clean my tank like this every 4 weeks. I recently built a tank topper, so I do cleaning like this every 6 to 8 weeks now. :)

      @@TheGerbilVine thank you! Do you happen to have a video on training to use sand for restroom?

    • @TheGerbilVine
      @TheGerbilVine  3 роки тому +2

      @@VadaS5009 I actually don't! Thats a great video topic, and I will be sure to put one out in the future. Gerbils will naturally know to use the sand, however if you find the they are going outside of the sand area constantly, I would advise using a larger area for sand, and see if that helps. They are quite smart, but also defiant lol.
