Elizabeth, hello there :) YT says you have been subscribed to me for 3 years (your subscriber badge says that), anyhow - happy to have you back :) there are lot of fun and interesting videos on the channel, happy watching and happy sewing :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity sorry. I must have done that but didn't get into sewing because I was distracted by gardening. All I did was sewing some face masks for my family and neighbors.I hope I can do clothes this time.
Awesome! So great to see this skill being passed down to others :) yes, simple stuff is great to start with. I always tell people - easiest comparison is baking - start with simple cookies and not baking a wedding cake in your first attempt to turn on the oven :)
Hi Alisa. This was a great video. I’m looking forward to your new video style. While you were explaining each garment in this video I thought wow, you really planned each piece well that you showed us last year. Each piece was very intentional and taking us on a sewing journey. Im ready for the next step now and I am really excited about what’s coming next. We have more than enough solid tutorials to use. You are an amazing teacher. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. 🥰
Hello from Canada! I most randomly found your channel a couple of days ago and I love it. I just started sewing a couple of months ago so this video is really handy for me. Thank you!
Kristina, well hello there and welcome! Oh, I hope you enjoy - so many tutorials and extra tips for better sewing and NEAT sewing. Happy sewing and remember to enjoy the journey!
Thanks Alisa. I was hesitant to try clothing. I sew easy quilts and small projects but you encourage me to try more. You explain techniques so well and your personality shines through your videos. I don’t usually make comments but I appreciate you very much. Thank you.
Thank you! My students are getting through their sewing club projects too quickly and I needed something to get them to pause and think about. You're a lifesaver!
Miss Sarah, hello! I love returning to basics from time to time, as those are the pieces I wear most often, they are great to pair with other stuff as well. I just wanted to do a "starter" video for all of the people out there that want to start but maybe are a bit scared! :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I think I started with commercial patterns that were too challenging and have got the "fear" so going back to basics and having some wins will be confidence building.
For sure! How's your knitted cardigan going? Celebrating the wins and achievements, small and big steps and just enjoying the journey as well - all very important things for sewing hobby.
I literally started my sewing journey the order you just suggested, not tried knit fabric yet, but have ordered the needle, will give it a try soon. Spot on, alway good advice.
Wei, hello there! That is awesome - we think alike! I have a video on the channel about simple steps on sewing with knit fabrics - it is a lot of fun and so many creative possibilities! Enjoy your sewing journey and I am happy I can be a part of that!
Excellent video! I took sewing classes in school when they still actually taught the ins and outs of garment sewing and we covered all of the rips you talked about and we had to learn about easing, gathering, darts, zippers, buttonholes, fit, etc. I'm currently teaching one of my granddaughters sewing and I loved the reminder of the list of easier garments to start out on. Our first project was pajamas with a pullover top that has an empire waist. Easy and she absolutely loves it. Thank you so much for doing this and you're very articulate when explaining!
Shehnaz, hello there and happy sewing! This will give you some ideas and take a look in the infobox - a TON of extra information that is super helpful for your sewing!
I love your videos. I live in West Virginia. I am always thinking of practical items to make for myself and as gifts. God bless you, and I am thinking of you and your family.
I'm still in the sewing items phase. For my first wearable piece I want to make a T-shirt with grown on short sleeves out of a not so expensive but still somewhat beautiful knit fabric I got for cheep from the scraps bucket. There are so many projects I'd like to make...
You are such an inspiration. I came this across channel today. Looking forward to sewing along with you. I am a complete beginner after watching countless videos with hundreds of rules and measurements almost lost my enthusiasm. But you are so far helping to get it back. Thank you. And your voice is really awakening. Its a good addition 💐.
Great video! I have been sewing for a while but mainly bags, storing items, cushions, pouches and so on. Finally started garments with tshirts for my little nephews and now trying clothes for myself. The practice piece tip with cheap fabric has been a lifesaver for me and so far all the things from your videos turned out beautifully! 😊
Hello from Houston, Texas! I found your advice really helpful. I had to learn the hard way that new fabric shrink after the first wash. I sewed two different fabrics for one garment. They didn’t shrink at the same rate. It was perfect after I finished sewing, but turned wonky after the first wash. Washing the fabric before cutting is definitely worthwhile.
I’m wanting to start seeing my own clothes and have watched several videos on how to get started. Your video was definitely the most helpful and informative! Great job. 🌷🙂
Thank you for the advice Alisa! I'm actually designing a mini summer capsule using these designs. I have finally invested in a sketchbook dedicated to sewing and it's really helped me. Much love to you! ♥

@@ThoughtfulCreativity Yes! It's definitely helped me be more organized. I can focus on one thing at a time and it's made a huge difference in my productivity. I bought manilla envelopes to organize pattern pieces and what I decided to do was make sketches to use as the cover for them. That way I can organize the variations I make as well. I've also switched to primarily hand sewing because it's just really enjoyable for me. I am loving my journey!!
He he :) they are the best, aren't they? :) I have a full folder of video clips on my computer where my kitty assistant is "helping" me sew :) he he :) thank you so much for watching and happy sewing!
Dont buy a cheap one ..you will just get frustrated because they are often just that , cheap and will give you problems. See if you can get a good second hand one ..You dont need all the fancy stitches but a few like zig zag and button hole making ability .
The fabric for that cute red floral top has to be non directional ie looks the same up and down. And as a beginner use a wider seam allowance " you can always cut it off but you can't add it on " as per my mom when we made my first garment a A-line skirt.
Hi Alissa, the fabric selection in my local fabric store is limited. Would you or someone in the community please tell me what your favorite online fabric stores are? Thank you so much!

i do love to sew. i have been making clothes for 60+ years. did alterations for others. now it is to expensive unless i find buys or buy online sometimes. i keep my patterns because the spirit may move me. i have seen beautiful fabrics at joannes. but 4 yds at 15.00 is to expensive for me. i can buy a dress for cheaper than that.
@@lindahedelund7047 geez, Yeh, sorry. I only buy if I have gift cards and wait for sales. I got an epic deal for a bolt, worked out to $3.33 a yard, for cotton. One I’ve been after for a few years but too expensive for me. The same fabric everywhere else sells for $7.70 a yard. I plan on making different tops, shorts and pants and the rest for a summer quilt. I have been burned by Joann fabrics online so I don’t shop there anymore, there are lots of other options. I would like to make my own sweatshirts and pants, but it is cheaper to buy them, I would never pay $12-$16 a yard for fabric, I even squirm at $5 a yard. So for my size, I can buy larger clothes at thrift stores for $8, and make what I want and have lots left over for something else.
