Trainer Art Sherman arrived in Dubai Monday night to oversee California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit)’s final preparations for Saturday’s G1 Dubai World Cup, and the trainer was not mincing words Tuesday when speaking to the press about the improvement the 5-year-old has made since he finished second in the world’s richest race last year.
“He’s a lot stronger horse now,” said Sherman. “I think he’s five lengths better. You’re just going to see a different Chrome this time.”
Unlike last year, when he shipped in for the main event, California Chrome has been stationed in Dubai since late January. He won a Dubai World Cup track-and-trip handicap in eye-catching style Feb. 25. Alan Sherman, Art’s son and assistant, has been by the chestnut’s side during his stay in Dubai, and he said, “He loves what he does. He comes out here, does his job, and he loves it. He’s always been that way.” - Спорт
Chrome was named the odds on favorite by the NTRA and the International Federation to win the World Cup. He's got it all with his flashy good looks, great charisma and rags to riches story, he is a throw back to other great stars in history. Chrome stands on the verge becoming most successful horse of all time. And even if he loses, he still has another shot at it at the Breeders Cup where he is already a favorite right next Beholder. Regardless of the soon to be outcome this horse has already won in my book. He won the hearts and minds of horse racing fans in America and around the world and he holds the title as American Horse of the year for 2014 to prove it. He will continue to shine no mater what the out come and that's truly phenomenal to have a loving and loyal fan base.
oh wow.....excellent job. I love this video! Thank you for sharing this. I'm one of the dinosaurs that has been following Chrome since he was 2yrs old. To see him win the Dubai World Cup yesterday by 2 1/2 lengths and set a new record 2:01.83 with a slipped saddle and he kept on going.......that bought tears of joy to my eyes. THAT is our Chrome that I remember years ago. He's back thanks to Taylor Made for bringing him BACK to his good health mentally,psyically and spiritually AND to the Shermans and his whole team who did a marvelous job training CC and building him up. He loves doing what he does. His owners saw this and let him race this year to make up for last year. AND that he is doing. 3 for 3 right now. WE love watching him DO what he loves to do. Amazing horse.
+RedBev59 ..well that makes me a dinosaur too...when they were mentioning up and comers and I heard his name...I thought what a great name and so then I watched his races on You-Tube, then watched him blow them away in the Santa Anita Derby.....that's it - a rabid Chromie ever since. I still can't believe he won, and with the slipping saddle and everything - what a horse! :)

Love how he just did his own thing to win this prep race. Victor never took the whip to him at all.....Chrome knew what HE had to do to prepare himself for the upcoming Dubai World Cup race and boy.......he blew them all away in the DWC later in March, too. By lengths. AND set a new track record. Yup, that's CHROME. Best horse America ever put out.

The rigorous turf training at Rae Guest’s Chestnut Tree Stables at
Newmarket and the turnout at Taylormade Farm did Chrome a world of good last year. He is bigger and better than ever. Good luck on Saturday, March 26, in the Dubai World Cup, Chrome!!

WOW - luv the video and how it really captures this beautiful animal - He is a looker who appears to luv what he does...Art Sherman's baby has grown into a powerful man - wonderful for all who are part of this tremendous effort & win - well earned & deserved. Enjoyed this race video more than any other....very moving....Hope there will be others of similar format in the future - excellent compilation makes the race even more special.
