Pengba and ilish are poles apart in taste and texture. The meitei ahilya and Indian mackerel are also different.
People from other states call Pengba by the name Manipur Ilish, mostly bengalis. I did not come up with the name, nor is it a figment of my imagination. I have only used the name here so that people, who are not Manipuris, may also recognise the dish. Please check Indiamart where they sell Pengba under the name Manipur Ilish.
