I unironically think the 4Kids Winx Club voices are the best, at least for the main girls. Each voice was distinct and suited their personalities. Now they are all just generic and unmemorable
Considering the English word for onigiri is rice ball, I’m pretty sure young kids from western countries would be able to garner what exactly those are. It is a ball of rice, it’s not that hard to comprehend even if it’s not food their familiar with. Kids can understand basic things about foreign cultures as long as you actually bother giving them information that makes it accessible to them. That being said, 4Kids has a tendency to write their dubs as specifically set in America when the original show is set in real life Japan rather than a fantasy world (hence the name change for the anime Tokyo Mew Mew to Mew Mew Power,) and that’s why they remove references from japanese culture entirely, even if it’s super basic stuff.
The Tidus scene being labeled bad voice acting has always bothered me because it's supposed to be a fake laugh to lift their spirits, and it's followed by actual laughter which sounds more convincing Final Fantasy X has really good voice acting in general
Both the line itself and the delivery is pure cringe. Quite interesting comparing the newer entriest from DMC 3 onward to just how bad the early voice work was :P
The Tidus thing I that he's literally forcing himself to laugh (as Yuna's suggestion), to cheer himself up. He's *supposed* to sound bad, especially when the other characters look at them weird and they both laugh, followed by Yuna saying "maybe we shouldn't laugh anymore". It's purposeful and I hate that people take it as a bad voice acting example.
I always saw it as being intentionally bad. After all, Tidus is hardly in a mood to laugh. The whole world as he knew it was over, and the only person he thought could get him home can't. The laugh turns a bit more natural after the forced attempt in either case, so you can clearly tell the VA isn't to blame here.
The voice actor himself has stated time and time again that yes. It was intentionally bad. It was supposed to sound fake and forced, because that's exactly what it is.

CDawg is the real MVP for pointing out that the the FFX laugh was intentionally bad. I don't know how many times I've had to defend that scene, but I've lost count.

...I feel like that That Elephant is what half my classmates imitated vs the actual Schwarzenegger (and good grief how does anyone spell that without a reference?!?)
Good on you for calling out people for saying thee FFX laugh is bad, storywise theyre in a really shitty situation and theyre forcing themselves to laugh to try and lighten the mood.
For FFX, the context of that scene is important. Tidus tells Yuna that even if she's not happy, she can always try to make herself happy and then proceeds to do the fake laugh. It's supposed to be awkward. It's like people never played the fucking game
Always peeves me when people think it's the VA's fault. Yes, it's a meme (and rightfully so) but it makes complete sense in context. It's supposed to be painfully awkward.
@@CarbonRollerCaco No one said it ISNT cringe. Lol. Of course it's super awkward and cringey. BUT knowing plot, and understanding WHY the character did something super cringe is IMPORTANT. *insert "the more you know" meme*
Fun Fact! that is entirely wrong, Akira (and his dad) is voiced several characters in the american release of Bob The Builder from 1999-2000 and hes from canada.
what's sad is that people don't realize that the Titus laughing scene.... is supposed to be like that because the characters are doing FORCED laughs to try and cheer themselves up and later on in the scene they laugh for real after making fools of themselves to loosen themselves up. "Hey, I know you are feeling down right now... but what always makes me pep up is some forced laughter.. the brain totally doesn't know the difference"
Oh ya, I, someone who has NEVER played ANY of the Final Fantasy games, should've KNOWN the context of this scene!! How could I not have known that when I don't play Final Fantasy games?! Shame on me!
The Titus laughing was actually supposed to be that way. He was trying to comfort Yuna about something I can't remember. But the cool thing is the va for Titus actually joined the joke and even said "It's meant to be bad"
So fun fact, the scene where Tidus and Yuna laugh in Final Fantasy 10 is really taken out of context. The laugh isn't supposed to be an actual laugh. It's Tidus expressing his anger at the situation he's put into. Yuna suggests that he try laughing to vent so it's not supposed to be a legitimate laugh.
4:28 I wish youd show just a bit more of the cutscene, as their forced laughter turns to real laughter!! The whole scene is about forcing laughter, as a coping mechanism. I think its so silly that people hold it up as a standard of bad voice acting. I think its actually great voice acting.
The video is fun and really informative, but can I just say that I appreciate how our boi rocks that jacket/suit? If I could, I'd like this video twice, for the aesthetics.
Now I kinda wanna see a video of you reacting to good voice acting. Like for example that one scene in "when supernatural battles became commonplace". Would be cool to see a whole video with voice acting scenes like that one.
4:22 (FFX laugh scene) Oh my god, THANK YOU for saying that it's intentional. I always feel like I'm defending this one. People jump on the "it's cringe, it's bad voice acting" band wagon, and out of context it sounds that way. But just before this laugh, they are literally talking about forcing a laugh out to make light of a stressful situation or something. And following this INTENTIONAL awkward laugh, they laugh normally and talk about how stupid that was. The only reason I can imagine why people think it's bad is because they don't actually know the whole scene and they just repost the meme everywhere.
I'm pretty sure there was an element of self-awareness to the yugioh dub if that season. There were mentions by other characters that broke the forth wall, I think in the same episode actually. Cyrus says to Jaden "You know I carried that water for 2 whole episodes Jai". So I beleive the Mammoth voice was entirely intentional. They were meme-ing xD
Ahaha yeah I'm really sure there was too! There are a ton of...'peculiar' lines from Yugioh GX season 3 mostly that have the fandom constantly joking that the directors were making an abridged series on purpose 😂

@@millystratford1103 Hahaha yeah! When I saw the tweet I instantly thought of the video where he reacts to his old auditions and I knew I had to say something😂
Not an English dub, but I'd suggest checking out the Finnish-language dub of Digimon for some absolutely BEAUTIFUL bad voice acting
Don't forget Flipper and Lopaka.
I think the Swedish version might have been equally bad if not worse
we thought we could stand out by having the VA be kids the same age as their characters and all the Digimon sound like the goddamn pedo from Family Guy
I was just going to comment this. Even as a child back then i realised how bad it was :D
The Agapio Racing Team specifically.
You know I have to say, I have been wanting to become a VA for some time now, and the fact that you won a competition with *that* Nigerian voice really gives me a huge boost in confidence, so thank you for that!!! xD I also appreciate that you included yourself in this video, props to you for keeping it real!

Zelda cdi is definitely the game of all time
4:36 Funny you say that. Because in the Dissidia NT VA interview, Tidus’s VA even admits it sounds ridiculous, but he said the voice director wanted to sound exactly like the Japanese version.
its also a point of the scene for it to sound bad, but people take it completely out of context
@@lioninjawarloc wasn't the whole point of that scene to cheer Titus up by making him force a laugh?
@@DissedRedEngie tidus was trying to cheer up yuna but yeah
Yeaaah they actually Fake their laugh here. That why it sound like a Fake laugh because it actually is.

Yeah, the Tidus laught isn't bad, it's just unfathomably cringey. In both english and japanese.

Can you make a video reacting to GOOD voice acting now? You probably already are but damn I'd like to see some pro voice actors at work maybe on some stuff i haven't already seen.
I wanna laugh at these people but frankly I'd probably sound exactly like that if I ever tried my hand at voice acting
The Devilman dub will forever be my favorite voice acting.
I CANT BELIEVE THE SCHWARZENEGGER MAMMOTH IS VOICED BY THE SAME GUY WHO VOICES GOKU

Shows the power of directors. "We want Arnold Schwarzenegger." "Ok."
...I feel like that That Elephant is what half my classmates imitated vs the actual Schwarzenegger (and good grief how does anyone spell that without a reference?!?)
@Suffer No Fools Depends on his role, really.
@@mufasathor8525 Which is fair, but saying it was bad voice acting is wrong
I legit died when he turned the laughs into Megalovania.Just-
This is why i subscribed
TIDUS' LAUGH IS MEANT TO BE FAKE IN THAT SCENE! HE WAS FORCING HIMSELF TO LAUGH FOR YUNA'S SAKE°°
Always peeves me when people think it's the VA's fault. Yes, it's a meme (and rightfully so) but it makes complete sense in context. It's supposed to be painfully awkward.
The animation mixed with the voice acting for that one was terrifying
This comment thread is righting an ancient wrong.
The problem is that it sounds annoying REGARDLESS.
@@CarbonRollerCaco No one said it ISNT cringe. Lol. Of course it's super awkward and cringey.
BUT knowing plot, and understanding WHY the character did something super cringe is IMPORTANT. *insert "the more you know" meme*
8:55 I love how it shifts into an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression at the end.
But not as Arnold as that crazy mammoth.

I can't believe he didn't get the "my precious power ring! gone forever. GRAAAAAHHHHH"
The Arnold Schwarzenegger elephant had me dying lol XD
i mean the tidus laugh was actually supposed to be a fake laugh.
Dude I'm Nigerian and you sound fine, not like completely Nigerian but almost there in a way lmao
Fun fact on that FFX clip: it's always taken out of context. The laugh is supposed to sound fake in universe.
5:53 For the people coming from latest Trash Taste Podcast wanting to hear Cannur's Nigerian accent.
cheers
He shoiuld be proud this is actually a good African accent
It is interesting to see how much his videos have changed over the years
16:07 **JonTron flashbacks** "SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN CLEVER BOOOOOOIIIIIS I'm a clever boy why don't you put me on the cover"
Fun fact! The Devilman dub was done by British voice actors doing American accents, you can hear it if you listen closely.
Especially in the way they word things.
Fun Fact! that is entirely wrong, Akira (and his dad) is voiced several characters in the american release of Bob The Builder from 1999-2000 and hes from canada.
what's sad is that people don't realize that the Titus laughing scene.... is supposed to be like that because the characters are doing FORCED laughs to try and cheer themselves up and later on in the scene they laugh for real after making fools of themselves to loosen themselves up.
"Hey, I know you are feeling down right now... but what always makes me pep up is some forced laughter.. the brain totally doesn't know the difference"
Exactly what i was thinking
Thank you!!!
Honestly, I can't stand all of you ff fans saying " oH iF SoMEonE dOEsn'T gET tHE TiDUs aNd yUNa SCeNe THeN tHErE sTUpID" like god it's pathetic
Oh I got it...I still think the scene is cringy.
Why don’t they do the other lines like “withYunabymyside”? There are plenty of other awkward lines.
@@iantaakalla8180 Right? They always choose the one that is awkward on purpose lol

4:28 I wish youd show just a bit more of the cutscene, as their forced laughter turns to real laughter!!
The whole scene is about forcing laughter, as a coping mechanism. I think its so silly that people hold it up as a standard of bad voice acting. I think its actually great voice acting.

I had no idea you were in Age of Empires!! Those games were what got me into gaming in the first place!! So awesome to find out!
