My mother was born in 1931 in the Depression era. As she was the eldest daughter, she was sent to live with a childless aunt. Her older brother could work, and her younger siblings needed the most care. She never got over feeling she was the disposable one. David's mixed emotions are so understandable.

My Dad, in his 80's thought he could do the same things he did in his 30's & 40's. I had to call the power company to tell them he was determined to move the power pole that was in the brook. They actually came out to the house & told him not to touch the poles. He wasn't happy. He did a lot in his lifetime especially outdoors. I take after him. Glad he was my Dad.

I "helped" my dad do some DIY when he was 96...I got to wield the paintbrush while he used the power tools!! He was amazing with wiring the house to put speakers in several rooms after they moved in, made some of their furniture and was an attorney/CPA. He loved doing DIY and I'm sure he missed it for the last 2-3 years of his life when he was no longer physically capable of doing the things he wanted to do. So glad he taught me how to use his power tools! Sounds like we both had great dads!

What wonderful people on this episode. So good to see Barry back home and looking so much better and spritely too. The subject of DNR should be something that every has as an adult no matter the age. If faced with that situation having talked about resuscitation beforehand makes the decision making so much easier during an already stressful time. I've faced this situation twice, with my mother who died and husband who had emergency heart surgery. Knowing the other person's wishes relieves the burden of decision making on other family members and their guilt of wondering if they made the right decision or not.

When my brother in law broke his hip, I stayed with him so my sister could go home for a bit. He would pull EVERYTHING off including gown, iv's, cather Everything. Then if a nurse came in, he would cover his privates with his hand. He was a lay preacher, so it was so against his norm. Man! I miss that man! He worked until age 79, broke hip one month later and died 6 months after that. He still sang at church and preached whenever our pastor was out of town. Was supposed to preach the day after he died.

    • @crohniequeenab

111 is like the information line to see if they should call 999 from what I have watched. Then 111 can call 999 or transfer the call to them to get that person the help they need. Kinda like a non emergency line. I think.

I know this is an old video, I mean, this was taken maybe last 2015 or 2016; that time the medical staff doesn’t wear masks especially around people that was coughing bad. Nowadays, if I am coughing then I wear a masks if I am out in public. In fact, during a church service/mass, I cough a little and the person in front of me moved to the center of the pew she was in, and during the peace sign she saw me wearing a mask

Another thing that so sad, is that couples 'avoid' discussing end of life options BEFORE it's necessary! It should be something that couples are able to talk about, their whole LIVES LONG! It's a natural and inevitable event - someone is going to die and it's usually one before the other. I'm an Aged Care Nurse and death is no stranger to me. I have a 'living will' which all my children have a copy of and I have a tattoo on my chest which reads D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
