I was Tar Heel born and bred, and someday I’ll be a Tar Heel dead. Just one note- I’d correct the comment about Cherokee being furtherest west. You’re over an hour short. The longest segment is Murphy (western) to Manteo(beach) is 8.5hrs. Murphy is less than 2hrs. closer to Atlanta than the next major metro area- asheville. The outer banks is more than 200 miles long. I live in the Asheville area in the mountains- it’s a 9.5 drive from Asheville to Ocracoke island (Blackbeard the pirate hangout). You can cut it down by taking a long 2.5 ferry ride to Ocracoke (it’s an island with no roads to or fro). Oh, While Cherokee is in North Carolina, it is a sovereign nation(tribal homeland). Cannabis has been legal there for years, yet just passed law (2021) allowing beer sales- it had been dry (except in casino). NC is definitely more unique than you think. Trees? Yep- most of Western is a temperate rainforest ecosystem with some areas getting up to 90” a year.
I have family there that made sure they bout alot of land.i have family in ashville Raleigh n fayetteville n they buy land around nc.i live in nyc n I'm glad I have family around the us in places like those that I can go to.my mother takes care of my dad's aunt since she's a nurse n he works a a carpenter, wish he could get enlisted to build one of those new buildings around the city but he helps people who have houses etc like around queens where I now live.ive spent a year already in nc for the whole of last year now I'm going to spend this year in GA.After hs I want to roadtrip around the country before I go to finish college in Germany. I already wrk online tho I'm in highschool.
NC is booming and not in a good way. They are destroying trees and space to build houses on top of each other. More flooding as water has no where to go. Traffic has become a nightmare.
There are definitely challenges to overcome with growth. I recently heard that there is new engineering technology that really helps with stor water runoff. But there are always improvements we can make!
When people complain about destroying trees and space to build places for people to live, I think about my neighborhood. Trees were cut here 30 years ago to build my house so I would have a place to live. Tree houses are not that comfortable. In the early 1700s there were almost no houses in N.C.. Think of all the trees that have been cut. What is the alternative? Houses made from lumber are expensive. Choices outside of lumber are even more expensive. We should stop having babies until we get all the trees back. Actually most trees that have been cut are used to build houses. I expect the house you live in was built from lumber from a cut tree.
I've lived here my whole 45 year life and I can honestly say without a doubt I'm tired of new people moving here. Also the tree remark about you need to cut down trees to make space to build houses and to use to build houses. Well if we keep cutting down the trees how is everyone going to breath on this planet. Duh trees make oxygen. If you want to keep cutting down trees do it somewhere else and not in my family's state. I love it here and I truly love our trees. I also hate all the traffic now to. It's crazy that 8 miles can take me 12 to 15 minutes, and please don't compare my state to other states. That's why us North Carolinians love our state because our state is nothing like other states. Rant over for now.
Move to Charlotte and learn all 7 Sharon, Queens, and Providence Roads in the city. And as I like to tell people, we do have all 4 Seasons here, usually in the same day.
I think NC is a really great state if you like to garden... except for those squash bugs!! It can be really hard to get squash to produce without getting eaten by the squash bugs!
I DID move to Charlotte, even had a job in Charlotte/Mecklenburg Library System. It was a relief to wash the dust of Charlotte off my shoes. Roads - some suitable for donkey carts, some highways. Poor, poor, road signs. Learned how to do the Carolina Slide in one week. And you can find all the pork chops you could ever eat in a lifetime when you get here. Oh yes, poor road lighting is another fun thing to contend with.
When I moved from tax hell Wisconsin to the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina 16 years ago, the roads here were mostly empty. Today, they are often bumper to bumper as people fed up with the never-ending lockdown come up to go skiing, rafting, fishing, hiking, etc. But the property taxes are still way lower than Wisconsin. I was paying $5,000 a year for a three-bedroom house in Wisconsin and my current property tax here is $1,100 for a comparable house. So I'm staying.
@Ziplokk That is true. If you come here, take care of yourself. People don't get married anymore, so they can get a big tax check back. It is like the government rewards bad behavior and punishes married people.

We voted for Voter ID in N.C., but a Democrat judge got it stopped. The people wanted it, but Democrats did not. We are trying to get it passed through.
Funny I live in the Zebulon area and most of our restaurants are open. The only ones not open are ones where their corporate doesn’t allow them to open, but it’s very few.
NC has 3 diverse regions (coastal plains, piedmont and mountain) and 100 counties packed with unique towns and small amazing cities. Despite some of the negative media, its a very friendly state.
We plan on moving to NC coming from AZ but we just hope it’s much nicer over there but at the same time I don’t want to live in overpopulation or expensive places, that’s the sucky thing that too many folks move here, especially those that are rude and leave trash around 😕
Hello. I grew up in Western NC and have moved to Eastern NC. If you are planning on moving here. Don't bring your New York/ New Jersey attitudes here. Leave it behind and try to assimilate to our culture. Don't push your own on us. North Carolina is losing its identity as more and more outsiders move here and push ours out. Be respectful to this great state
North Carolina culture is so warm and welcoming. So many people move here specifically for the culture. I do hope newcomers adopt the neighborly and helpful culture that I have come to love as a transplant myself! 💕
@@EllenPitts Yes I do as well. But I worry about our housing/rental moguls that have become so synonymous with our cities. There are more rentors in Wilmington than home owners. That's an issue.

Been in Raleigh for 24 years ..is a great area to do business ..people is all varieties but must off are really friendly . Last two decades is been growing a ton . I don’t like the Raleigh area roads still very rural and always in construction which they are slow as turtle 🐢.
Nice place to visit but probably shouldn't move there. It's getting to crowded and the more people move in, the more people want to develop and it's killing our mountains. People who are not from NC come here trash up the place then leave. Some want to move in and change everything so that it resemble where they used to live ( big sky) just stay where you are if you want to come and change everything. Same thing happening here on barrier island in N W Fla. It used to be so beautiful and noted as one of the most rare bioregions in the world. The developers are slashing land to build cheap units for the rental investments, and the ubet rich are building 100 million dollar homes. Now the average price of a home is half a mil. I am very upset. The past two years I am now finding trash on our pristine beaches.
1. Hot, humid summers. 2. Not enough sidewalks. 3. Springtime allergies. The worst I've seen anywhere. 4. Many cloudy days. (But apparently not as many as in Seattle.) Other than that, it's been pretty good, all things considered.

We picked our town because of the sidewalks and our neighborhood because there are sidewalks on both sides. The homes in our neighborhood(in city) average 200 K. Less than a mile away there is a newer neighborhood( also city) with homes averaging 350K. There are no sidewalks. Go figure. A word from the wise, "Be picky when you buy your next home".

You are definitely right in that deforestation is hurting NC. No trees mean no wind breaks during hurricanes. Thankfully we have Weyerhaeuser who harvests but replanted pines in eastern NC
We have all kinds of weather but maybe only 1 or 2 mild snowstorms a year which makes snow special here. Activities...So many things to do within a day’s drive at different times of the year. Statesville has an annual hot air balloon festival in the fall. Lake Norman is the largest man made lake in the Southeast for all water sports. National Whitewater Rafting Center near Charlotte has various outdoor activities to do including ice skating in winter. All types of fishing in NC. Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach were where Dawson’s Creek was filmed years ago and you can surf there. At the Outer Banks, there are lighthouses to see and pirate history. Kitty Hawk and Jockey’s Ridge sand dunes for hang gliding lessons. The Wright Brothers Memorial is there too. In the mountains, Transylvania County is “the land of the waterfalls”. Easy to difficult hiking. There are whitewater rafting and snow skiing activities in various mountain towns. Carowinds amusement park and other water parks are attractions in NC. Golf courses are plentiful. Farmland and Mill towns, small cities and suburbs, mountains, foothills, Piedmont, and the coast...we have a lot of variety in NC.
My brother lives at carolina shores and loves it. close to North Myrtle...he loves beach music. One of the best places to go to anywhere and I've been in just about every state in the US and have been across country about 35 times. Hard to beat NC
@@fofofofo3076 Tampa is alright. Miami is horrible. Traffic, rudest people in the nation, hardly anybody speaks English. People are just nasty, everything here is expensive and car insurance is horrendously expensive, nasty climate, crime is going up the roof.
I love NC and I have lived in 27 states, and travelled to all the 50 states. I live and graduated from a university in NC and it is better that other areas I have lived throughout my career.
I agree with you 💯!! I have lived in Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Texas and Colorado. So not as many as you but man, NC is a really nice state! Not sure anything compares IMO!

I grew up here in stokes county and people can find something wrong where ever they go I would not want to live anywhere else I think this state has a lot to offer people love to come here who is stuck in the middle of the U.S. or the cold up north or no 4 seasons in Florida so to the complainers move if you don't like it here
I lived in Florida and absolutely loathed it! It was great when I got out of school for 2 months and we went and stayed at the Polynesian in Disney but to live in Florida is another ball game entirely!
Florida definitely has pros and cons! Some parts are very different from others. I wouldn’t mind some of the smaller coastal towns like St Augustine. But yeah, a lot of it leaves much to be desired.
I’ve lived in Seattle area for 23 years and I must point out it is definitely not the same. Here’s why… while there are other states including NC that actually may get more rain than Seattle, ours are not downpours and are often not heavy rain. Most of the time when it rains in the Seattle area it’s a fine mist or light rain that lasts for days and days and days! One winter we did not see the sun for almost one month. Believe me it’s down right depressing some winters. We get on average 156 days of rain per year so it’s not about the inches of rain IMO, it’s the amount of wet gloomy days. Raleigh I believe it’s gets over 200 sunny to partly sunny days per year and 115 days of rain which is quite a bit but not as bad as Seattle. I use to live in NJ and I do remember those downpours in the east which doesn’t happen too often in the Pacific Northwest. My brother live in NC so I have tracked the many storms. Just thought I would point out the difference especially since I am looking to escape a state that rains most of the year. Our summers are glorious though which I will miss if we move to NC.
Thank you for the video. We are thinking of moving from Lake Nona, Orlando area to NC. I miss the hiking from Colorado, but don’t want the long snowy winters either. So, NC seems like best of both worlds.
The traditional measure is "Manteo to Murphy" - 598 miles if you stay on U.S. 64 all the way. Add 4 miles to the eastern end to get from Whalebone Junction at Nags Head and 20 miles from Murphy to the Tennessee state line ... a little over 621 miles. You can get there a bit quicker if you pick up I-40 at Raleigh and get off of I-40 onto U.S. 74 west of Asheville. U.S. 64 & U.S. 74 run concurrently from Murphy to the Tennessee state line. But you miss a lot of the interesting scenery going that way.
I HATE driving on I-40 to get to the mountains. I would much rather drive an extra hour and get the beautiful views. You get no views from 40 at all. :(
I have lived in Charlotte for about 20 years and have always wished there were places I could watch the sunset besides the beach. You really articulated that well when you mentioned we don’t have big sky. That’s the perfect way to put it. I need more big sky…but like living here otherwise. 😎 I’d move to the coast if I could afford it.
Oh my, have to use a map. As far as trees go, if you own property, cut down what you want. I retire this year & thinking of moving to S.W. NC. Maybe just outside the smokies. 1.5- 3 acres. Small house, gardens & ,a small green house to grow veggies all year round or at least extend the growing season. Peace!!!
I've lived in N.C. all my life and we've got WAY too many people moving in here and bringing their impatient, entitled ways here. The traffic has gotten as bad as any big city, and I've driven through Orlando, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. I hate having to deal with that, on my home turf.
I agree. People want to get out of their home state. And then want to move to some.other state and change it to their liking! I say stay where your at! Come and live like the state is or stay where your at.. your moving their for a reason you must of known what it's like... I'm in IL. And I want to move someplace that's not run run run. I retired early and and want to.relax. I wanted to move to NC. By the mtns. But because of family obligations I'm gonna have to put it on hold. But hopefully one day.
I will 100% agree with this. NC 20 years ago used to be nice and relaxed, easy to get around, lots of friendly people, inexpensive, etc. But NOW?? It's just like New York. Expensive, lots of traffic, eery scrap of land is built on, rude people, etc.
You are right! I-85/40 is dangerous. Try the Raleigh traffic from any direction. I've had two close calls on I-40 lately - both could have been lethal.
Please don't come here and try to change it to where you moved from. Northerners do that all the time. They move here and then talk about how great it is up North.
I came from ATL(Gainesville) and I love it here. I moved to Bryson City about 4 yrs ago. I would like to get higher in elavation, but the view out my bedroom is incredible. Damn cities. Seattle has many many more rainy days thou, or misty.

I’m not from Florida originally, but my husband and kids were born here and I’ve lived here 12 years now. I grew up in CA and have also lived in Idaho, Georgia, Canada and Europe. TBH I have never loved FL. There are good things to be sure, but overall for me it’s too hot, no seasons, too many people over 65 (no offense to anyone over 65 but I’m not there for another 25 years), too many strip malls, too flat, I could go on. NC is very appealing in many ways. I’m a mountain girl at heart and love walks in woods, but also enjoy the beach. We’re thinking of moving to the Charlotte metro so we have “bigger city” amenities but the mountains and beach are still accessible. Prices are high but compared to CA where I grew up, still somewhat affordable. Happy Holidays to you!
I've lived many many places I was born outside of Chicago and I've lived in Brevard North Carolina for years now. It rains a lot you are right and we are actually classified as a rainforest. We are right smack-dab in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's raining right now but that's okay
Moved to South Carolina late 80s from Ohio thought it would be nice to get away from the snow had 10 inches in October one day didn’t think about summer to hot my neighbor wouldn’t talk to me because I was from up North met some great people teachers made it hard on our kids moved back to Ohio

The Biltmore Estate is expansive it takes at least 20 minutes just to get on the main grounds. And if you want to see everything at the Biltmore you at least have to take two days to do so.
Wonderful video. NC sounds pretty great. I hope a job opportunity pans out so we can move that way...but maybe next year in hope that the housing market calms down just a little bit
I reside on the barrier island of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla, Walton County. Wellllllll, let me say the long- leaf pine forests here are being cleat cut as developers are moving in. It is no longer.that lovely island I remember. Sad.
You show New Hampshire but my state of Maine is off your map. If you want to be safe but pay the highest grocery prices in the contiguous United States move to Maine. although it's nice to watch the fishing boats come in I'm looking to leave behind an extended cold season due to my health.

Rain, as you graphic showed but you didn't talk about, Seatle has more rainy days. Storms, big and little, can dump a lot of water fast. In the summer you after get a fast thunderstorm that puts down quite a bit of water but is gone in maybe an hour. NC gets short storms in the summer and almost freezing rain several days in winter, not that you go out much then anyway. Snow not so much except in the mountains. NC is where hot southern weather systems meet cold northern systems. The boundaries vary and mix making the weather sometimes change rapidly. Clothing tip, layering. There are seasons here not perpetual summer or winter. Straight roads? How boring. The state is old, is not flat and has lots of rivers, things that tend to create straight roads. Transportation fun facts, North Carolina has more lane/miles of highway than any US state except Texas and has more ferry route miles than any US state except Washington. No sky, go to the beach. The trees are shade and make it cooler. Cutting down the forrest? No, timber is a renewal resource and has been stable for a long time. What you see are the local woods being cut down, for development housing and not being replanted. The housing boom is turning farms and forrests into sub divisions. There are three timber development areas in North America, the southeast, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, they each equal about a third of production. If you like big cities, for God's sake stay there, don't move here! PLEASE!!

@@EllenPitts It seems to run in cycles. July in the 1960s there would be about two weeks of rain that turned the fields to mud a few years in a row. In the summer weathermen can go on vacation from June to late August and just rerun the same forecast. Highs in the mid to upper 90s with lows in the low 70s with scattered afternoon thundershowers.
Lack of big sky: me who lives in the mountains who has the perfect mix of big sky and trees.....what? Biltmore is beautiful! I will say it takes me about 8 hours to drive to the coast which isn't horrible. The outer banks are beautiful and everyone should go see the wild horses at least once! Good video!

Too late for me. I've been here since 1973. My wife and I like it! I ignore politics; I am Southern since age 1 day. I married a Yankee and yes they seem to be flooding the state. I kid them that they started coming down after Reconstruction. They say that they are here because of relatively low taxes and property costs, but they stay because we are friendly. Go east of Raleigh and you'll see all the sky you want. Get one if you must, but you don't need a generator. I've been here for 74 years and Hurricane Hugo knocked us out for 10 days(rural property).You do the math: 74 years multiplied by 365 days minus 10 days. Not much need. I did enjoy your presentation regardless of my different opinions.

Regarding generators...agreed that it’s rare but when you need it there won’t be one in the stores. I definitely recommend it. We’ve used ours once in 21 years and there was one time when we didn’t have one and had to drive to Virginia to stay with my in-laws. It was a nightmare ice storm. I wouldn’t do that again willingly!!
I moved to Charlotte from Pittsburgh14 years ago and would never go back. We get 1-2 ice storms a year compared to non-stop cold and snow further north. Humidity is high most everywhere is summer. Air conditioning anyone? North Carolina has everything from beaches to mountains and everything in between.
That was the CRAZIEST storm!! I don't think we have had one like it since... at least not that I can remember. Which means we probably have one coming to us! LOL!
Seems like I say the same exact things about Houston when you mentioned Texas in the beginning.... I miss Greece, but I have been looking at other states I could move to so I can not feel so trapped 😝
Houston is so far away from everything! When I lived there I missed how quickly you can drive to a different climate here in Raleigh. In a couple hours you can be on the beach or on a mountaintop.
The roads in NC are good and I like dense trees which make the local climate cooler. There plenty of opportunities in the research triangle and Charlotte. My opinion about the state that I was born, raised and lived too long.
Hi, I moved down here last year during the pandemic and got cancer at the same time. I beat the cancer and I’m just now starting to learn the area. I’m a little bit south of Charlotte. My friends that I am staying with are moving back to NJ but I love the south. Where in NC should I be looking? I have 2 dogs. Bully breeds. One is 45lbs the other is 80lbs. Biggest hurdle for renting a place is getting my dogs in.
Congrats on beating cancer!! So wonderful! I'm sorry I don't know of a resource for finding bully friendly rentals. I would try one of the bully breed facebook groups? Or maybe one of the rental facebook groups. Good luck!
That really depends. You have to check property by property. Even if zoning restrictions allow trailers, there can be restrictive covenants that prevent them. You just have to look up the covenants before you purchase. But one things I didn't cover is extra-territorial jurisdiction, which is important... Maybe I will cover that in an upcoming video.
I’m a Statistical Analyst who assists people who look to relocate to the Carolina’s. Not a bad video, but there are some things that are a bit off. Though NC doesn’t have a NYC, LA, or Chicago (which I consider a good thing since people are fleeing those areas in record numbers due to the huge negatives those areas have), Charlotte has a big, clean, and safe urban downtown. Soooo much to do and experience. The “real” city thing that people talk about is a bit bizarre sometimes, lol, because it’s so enormously subjective. Though NC does have more rain than the Pacific Northwest, NC does have way more sunny days. That’s an important distinction. You have the lush green, yet not the oppressively cloudy , dank, drizzly climate of the PNW. The best of both worlds, so it’s far from being a negative. I know you’re probably from RDU, but with this being a video about NC, Raleigh was too much of a reference point, especially being so far east and so much smaller than Charlotte. There are several overview videos is use for my clients about SC that do a great job highlighting the state. But I have yet to find even one that I can use for NC that properly represents the state as a whole, has the format I’m looking for, and that is between 3-10 minutes. You’re was great, other than the things I mentioned. I really can’t use this one because I know that it would give the incorrect impression that NC gets constant downpours with very little sun, which is not reality. Still, good video that’s on the right track. Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not trying to be a wet blanket. I was hyped that I FINALLY found (after over a year of searching) the perfect NC video. But the inaccuracy made it unusable for me. I really look forward to seeing more of your videos. Again, the format and length was great.

Thanks for the vid! Actually thinking of moving to NC for various reasons, one of which is that we miss trees. With that said, you mentioned that they are cutting down a lot of them due to construction of new homes. So, are they just strip mining the whole state to the point that soon NC will become like west Texas??
I don't think that is possible. It is very lush and green here and we get a lot of rain. Things grow VERY quickly. And they try to preserve what they can
Yes they are. Anywhere they can slap up a Starbucks or some other ugly box like housing. Violent crime is way up in Charlotte. Traffic is terrible. Won't be long before everything is overcrowded and ruined like so many northern cities
It is definitely changing. The whole country is in flux right now. So many people working from home are relocating to many different cities. It will continue to shift and change... it’s just the nature of life!

Its USA dude. Diversity and growth is part of the everyday life. Embrace it or get left behind. No matter where you go in the world, when life decides to change then it will regardless. My advice to you would be to move to the Himalayas. Perfect for those who are anti-social. Not many people and far from the rest of the growing changing world.
NC is the 9th state I've lived in & you never mentioned the kind people & the religious/conservative values of the state. This is the most "Christian" state I've lived in. It may not be for everyone & people need to be aware of that. Wherever you move do the research on the culture & religion of the area.
I have definitely mentioned the southern culture and how accepting and friendly it is in many of my videos. That is the primary reason I love it here and would never live anywhere else!
It is NOT easy getting from one end to other compared to NEW ENGLAND states... like MA. We found out on vacation to NC staying in the foothills and taking 4 hours to the beaches... no not easy

Flying into NC from California next month. I have a full week to explore the several towns I'm interested in purchasing property. Grew up in NJ, family lives in VA, NJ, NY and FL. I want to get back to the east coast....parents are getting older and I want to be closer. All my research tells me I need to be in Asheville. I think its the perfect blend of hippy dippy artsy fartsy and the conservative values I want to get back to. I've got my hopes up. I fly in the second week of September 2021 and I have a full week to explore and to find some property to buy (0r) temporally rent. Super Excited

Garner is less developed than other areas. They have tried to revitalize their downtown but there really isn't much there. They do have plenty of big box stores and shopping centers. But it's mostly subdivisions and Target. :) There are nice parks like everywhere in the Triangle. It is part of the Wake County School System which is good. Yes! I actually visited this year and they have social distancing procedures in place. It is a huge estate so it is very easy to stay far away from people. They have limited the number of people allowed inside the house at one time so you get assigned a time slot which cannot be changed. That ended up being a little inconvenient for us as you can't get into and out of the property easily and we ended up not being able to get inside at all because we missed out time slot. But honestly, even to see the grounds and the outside of the property is worth it. It's truly amazing. I don't know if anything has changed since August, but it was a good experience when I visited at that time.
I've been to 45 states and there is more litter and trash in NC than any other. Otherwise a very pretty place, just not sure why people litter it so much.
It has been very bad since the pandemic started. There have been budget cuts due to less taxes coming in from businesses and road crews are one place that is affecting
@@EllenPitts Disagree. The amount of litter on the roads has nothing to do with funding for clean-up crews. Volunteers, adopt-a-highway programs, and prisoners do a large amount of clean-up. The REAL issue is people not taking pride in where they live, so they don't care how it looks. When I was at NCSU a club I was in adopted a stretch of Duraleigh Rd. I can tell you from experience the worst offenders are cigarette smokers.
Until NC became so full of people from less desirable places, , we had no litter problems! I have lots of military in my family and they used to tell me that everywhere they were sent, people always remarked about being in NC, now pretty it was, and how clean the roadsides and parks were kept. NO LONGER THE FACTS.
You are right! People were not taught any better. Probably comes from the previous practice of throwing your cigarette butts on the floor - anywhere. My younger brother used to empty his ashtray from his car onto the street.

NC used to be a great place. It’s now overcrowded with people who don’t get the southern way of life. We don’t want change, we don’t want to be NY or Ohio. If you love those places so much maybe you should have stayed. Don’t tell a southerner how you do things where you came from. We don’t care.
I've heard everyone left Florida because it was crowded and went there? I heard that NC tax's you every year for the firearms you posses? I was told that. OMG,... she's a realtor,...is there land where you can build a off grid cabin,... where property tax's are low. And dose NC tax you yearly on your gun's? It would be like infringement and a 4th amendment issue.

I Love it here..But now I can't afford to live here because of all the company's coming here are making property prices and taxes go up...5 acres with a 3 bedroom..179,000..Now...buy it and plow it and build 10 on it for 300,000 each.. Sucks.
Same thing happened in MA about 15- 20 yrs ago, get involved in local zoning.. we now have in rural areas of MA 3acre- 5 acre minimum building lots per house, stop subdivions, they WILL RAISE YOUR TAXES AND HOMEPRICES... small businesses are vital to keeping taxes low off the property owners.
I believe it’s because 5e people that move recognize the nasty bit of history NC has and they think changing all the names associated with racists will pacify things and makes their fairy tale move to this state more tasteful
Hi Ellen,....I'd like to find out where people do Mountain biking and riding. I'm an RN....getting my resume "tuned up to move to North or S.Carolina in 2022 or 2023. Intention; rent for a year and then buy a smaller 3 br house to rent rooms/AirBnB or long term room rent to another RN/professional.
I'm sorry I missed this a while back!! There are tons of great places to mountain bike in NC! We have several national forests....look into Pisgah, Uwharrie, and Nantanhala National Forests. There are also tons of state parks. Linville Gorge and Mt Mitchell... Honestly there are so many! Just search for state parks and national forests and you will uncover a never-ending wilderness adventure!!
There are lots of low crime areas throughout North Carolina. Raleigh is the lowest crime large city in the state but the best way to find places you like is to start looking at homes in your price point and then check crime maps.

The Raleigh area is fine if you're looking for a overall family type place to live. For me it's pretty boring. The city lacks a good urban scene and downtown is not what some bloggers like to hype it up as. It's nothing impressive. And both the mountains and beaches are over 2 hours away. Everything is pretty spread out too. It all boils down to what you're looking for. But it's limited in terms of culture and entertainment.
I actually agree with you. I always tell people thinking of moving here that downtown raleigh is a few blocks. You can walk it in an hour. It’s definitely not for everyone!

I was Tar Heel born and bred, and someday I’ll be a Tar Heel dead. Just one note- I’d correct the comment about Cherokee being furtherest west. You’re over an hour short. The longest segment is Murphy (western) to Manteo(beach) is 8.5hrs. Murphy is less than 2hrs. closer to Atlanta than the next major metro area- asheville. The outer banks is more than 200 miles long. I live in the Asheville area in the mountains- it’s a 9.5 drive from Asheville to Ocracoke island (Blackbeard the pirate hangout). You can cut it down by taking a long 2.5 ferry ride to Ocracoke (it’s an island with no roads to or fro). Oh, While Cherokee is in North Carolina, it is a sovereign nation(tribal homeland). Cannabis has been legal there for years, yet just passed law (2021) allowing beer sales- it had been dry (except in casino). NC is definitely more unique than you think. Trees? Yep- most of Western is a temperate rainforest ecosystem with some areas getting up to 90” a year.

I have family there that made sure they bout alot of land.i have family in ashville Raleigh n fayetteville n they buy land around nc.i live in nyc n I'm glad I have family around the us in places like those that I can go to.my mother takes care of my dad's aunt since she's a nurse n he works a a carpenter, wish he could get enlisted to build one of those new buildings around the city but he helps people who have houses etc like around queens where I now live.ive spent a year already in nc for the whole of last year now I'm going to spend this year in GA.After hs I want to roadtrip around the country before I go to finish college in Germany. I already wrk online tho I'm in highschool.

NC is booming and not in a good way. They are destroying trees and space to build houses on top of each other. More flooding as water has no where to go. Traffic has become a nightmare.
There are definitely challenges to overcome with growth. I recently heard that there is new engineering technology that really helps with stor water runoff. But there are always improvements we can make!

Nothing new or unusual. They cut down a lot of trees to build every city in the world: NYC, Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, London, Paris....
When people complain about destroying trees and space to build places for people to live, I think about my neighborhood. Trees were cut here 30 years ago to build my house so I would have a place to live. Tree houses are not that comfortable. In the early 1700s there were almost no houses in N.C.. Think of all the trees that have been cut. What is the alternative? Houses made from lumber are expensive. Choices outside of lumber are even more expensive. We should stop having babies until we get all the trees back. Actually most trees that have been cut are used to build houses. I expect the house you live in was built from lumber from a cut tree.
I've lived here my whole 45 year life and I can honestly say without a doubt I'm tired of new people moving here. Also the tree remark about you need to cut down trees to make space to build houses and to use to build houses. Well if we keep cutting down the trees how is everyone going to breath on this planet. Duh trees make oxygen. If you want to keep cutting down trees do it somewhere else and not in my family's state. I love it here and I truly love our trees. I also hate all the traffic now to. It's crazy that 8 miles can take me 12 to 15 minutes, and please don't compare my state to other states. That's why us North Carolinians love our state because our state is nothing like other states. Move to Charlotte and learn all 7 Sharon, Queens, and Providence Roads in the city.
And as I like to tell people, we do have all 4 Seasons here, usually in the same day.
I think NC is a really great state if you like to garden... except for those squash bugs!! It can be really hard to get squash to produce without getting eaten by the squash bugs!
I DID move to Charlotte, even had a job in Charlotte/Mecklenburg Library System. It was a relief to wash the dust of Charlotte off my shoes. Roads - some suitable for donkey carts, some highways. Poor, poor, road signs. Learned how to do the Carolina Slide in one week. And you can find all the pork chops you could ever eat in a lifetime when you get here. Oh yes, poor road lighting is another fun thing to contend with.
When I moved from tax hell Wisconsin to the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina 16 years ago, the roads here were mostly empty. Today, they are often bumper to bumper as people fed up with the never-ending lockdown come up to go skiing, rafting, fishing, hiking, etc. But the property taxes are still way lower than Wisconsin. I was paying $5,000 a year for a three-bedroom house in Wisconsin and my current property tax here is $1,100 for a comparable house. So I'm staying.
People say I don't know what I'm talking about by the cheaper living here.

Funny I live in the Zebulon area and most of our restaurants are open. The only ones not open are ones where their corporate doesn’t allow them to open, but it’s very few.
NC has 3 diverse regions (coastal plains, piedmont and mountain) and 100 counties packed with unique towns and small amazing cities. Despite some of the negative media, its a very friendly state.
We plan on moving to NC coming from AZ but we just hope it’s much nicer over there but at the same time I don’t want to live in overpopulation or expensive places, that’s the sucky thing that too many folks move here, especially those that are rude and leave trash around 😕
Hello. I grew up in Western NC and have moved to Eastern NC. If you are planning on moving here. Don't bring your New York/ New Jersey attitudes here. Leave it behind and try to assimilate to our culture. Don't push your own on us. North Carolina is losing its identity as more and more outsiders move here and push ours out. Be respectful to this great state
North Carolina culture is so warm and welcoming. So many people move here specifically for the culture. I do hope newcomers adopt the neighborly and helpful culture that I have come to love as a transplant myself! 💕

Been in Raleigh for 24 years ..is a great area to do business ..people is all varieties but must off are really friendly . Last two decades is been growing a ton . I don’t like the Raleigh area roads still very rural and always in construction which they are slow as turtle 🐢.

I'm moving to NC from NY to enjoy exercising my 2A, freedom and nature. Just because I am from NY doesn't mean I am a liberal insane person.
Same thing happening here on barrier island in N W Fla. It used to be so beautiful and noted as one of the most rare bioregions in the world. The developers are slashing land to build cheap units for the rental investments, and the ubet rich are building 100 million dollar homes. Now the average price of a home is half a mil. I am very upset. The past two years I am now finding trash on our pristine beaches.
Too many ppl moving here,the humidity in summer,yes getting more and more expensive.
1. Hot, humid summers.
2. Not enough sidewalks.
3. Springtime allergies. The worst I've seen anywhere.
4. Many cloudy days. (But apparently not as many as in Seattle.)
Other than that, it's been pretty good, all things considered.
Our neighborhood has sidewalks on both sides and our town, Mebane, has sidewalks from my house to downtown 3 miles and beyond (5 miles).

We picked our town because of the sidewalks and our neighborhood because there are sidewalks on both sides. The homes in our neighborhood(in city) average 200 K. Less than a mile away there is a newer neighborhood( also city) with homes averaging 350K. There are no sidewalks. Go figure. A word from the wise, "Be picky when you buy your next home".

You are definitely right in that deforestation is hurting NC. No trees mean no wind breaks during hurricanes. Thankfully we have Weyerhaeuser who harvests but replanted pines in eastern NC
We have all kinds of weather but maybe only 1 or 2 mild snowstorms a year which makes snow special here. Activities...So many things to do within a day’s drive at different times of the year. Statesville has an annual hot air balloon festival in the fall. Lake Norman is the largest man made lake in the Southeast for all water sports. National Whitewater Rafting Center near Charlotte has various outdoor activities to do including ice skating in winter. All types of fishing in NC. Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach were where Dawson’s Creek was filmed years ago and you can surf there. At the Outer Banks, there are lighthouses to see and pirate history. Kitty Hawk and Jockey’s Ridge sand dunes for hang gliding lessons. The Wright Brothers Memorial is there too. In the mountains, Transylvania County is “the land of the waterfalls”. Easy to difficult hiking. There are whitewater rafting and snow skiing activities in various mountain towns. Carowinds amusement park and other water parks are attractions in NC. Golf courses are plentiful. Farmland and Mill towns, small cities and suburbs, mountains, foothills, Piedmont, and the coast...we have a lot of variety in NC.

My brother lives at carolina shores and loves it. close to North Myrtle...he loves beach music. One of the best places to go to anywhere and I've been in just about every state in the US and have been across country about 35 times. Hard to beat NC

I love NC and I have lived in 27 states, and travelled to all the 50 states. I live and graduated from a university in NC and it is better that other areas I have lived throughout my career.

People for get that we are all strangers on this earth and the earth that we are fighting for, the land we argue about belongs to God. So before you start hating on your neighbor, before you become greedy and unfriendly remember, it’s not the alarm that wakes you up in the morning to enjoy another beautiful day but the hand of God. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Do unto others as you would expect them to do unto you. We are living in the end times where the love of many has grown cold.
I grew up here in stokes county and people can find something wrong where ever they go I would not want to live anywhere else I think this state has a lot to offer people love to come here who is stuck in the middle of the U.S. or the cold up north or no 4 seasons in Florida so to the complainers move if you don't like it here
I lived in Florida and absolutely loathed it! It was great when I got out of school for 2 months and we went and stayed at the Polynesian in Disney but to live in Florida is another ball game entirely!
Florida definitely has pros and cons! Some parts are very different from others. I wouldn’t mind some of the smaller coastal towns like St Augustine. But yeah, a lot of it leaves much to be desired.

I’ve lived in Seattle area for 23 years and I must point out it is definitely not the same. Here’s why… while there are other states including NC that actually may get more rain than Seattle, ours are not downpours and are often not heavy rain. Most of the time when it rains in the Seattle area it’s a fine mist or light rain that lasts for days and days and days! One winter we did not see the sun for almost one month. Believe me it’s down right depressing some winters. We get on average 156 days of rain per year so it’s not about the inches of rain IMO, it’s the amount of wet gloomy days. Raleigh I believe it’s gets over 200 sunny to partly sunny days per year and 115 days of rain which is quite a bit but not as bad as Seattle. I use to live in NJ and I do remember those downpours in the east which doesn’t happen too often in the Pacific Northwest. My brother live in NC so I have tracked the many storms.
Just thought I would point out the difference especially since I am looking to escape a state that rains most of the year. Our summers are glorious though which I will miss if we move to NC.

The traditional measure is "Manteo to Murphy" - 598 miles if you stay on U.S. 64 all the way. Add 4 miles to the eastern end to get from Whalebone Junction at Nags Head and 20 miles from Murphy to the Tennessee state line ... a little over 621 miles.
You can get there a bit quicker if you pick up I-40 at Raleigh and get off of I-40 onto U.S. 74 west of Asheville. U.S. 64 & U.S. 74 run concurrently from Murphy to the Tennessee state line. But you miss a lot of the interesting scenery going that way.
I HATE driving on I-40 to get to the mountains. I would much rather drive an extra hour and get the beautiful views. You get no views from 40 at all. :(

I have lived in Charlotte for about 20 years and have always wished there were places I could watch the sunset besides the beach. You really articulated that well when you mentioned we don’t have big sky. That’s the perfect way to put it. I need more big sky…but like living here otherwise. 😎 I’d move to the coast if I could afford it.

Oh my, have to use a map. As far as trees go, if you own property, cut down what you want. I retire this year & thinking of moving to S.W. NC. Maybe just outside the smokies. 1.5- 3 acres. Small house, gardens & ,a small green house to grow veggies all year round or at least extend the growing season. Peace!!!
I love vegetable gardening as well! I even used to keep milk goats at one point. That is definitely the way to live if you can make it work!
GPS as a driving aide is absolutely great. Maps are also helpful but harder to drive with.
I've lived in N.C. all my life and we've got WAY too many people moving in here and bringing their impatient, entitled ways here. The traffic has gotten as bad as any big city, and I've driven through Orlando, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. I hate having to deal with that, on my home turf.

I will 100% agree with this. NC 20 years ago used to be nice and relaxed, easy to get around, lots of friendly people, inexpensive, etc. But NOW?? It's just like New York. Expensive, lots of traffic, eery scrap of land is built on, rude people, etc.
You are right! I-85/40 is dangerous. Try the Raleigh traffic from any direction. I've had two close calls on I-40 lately - both could have been lethal.
To many rude entitlement thinking people from up north have ruined Raleigh.

I came from ATL(Gainesville) and I love it here. I moved to Bryson City about 4 yrs ago. I would like to get higher in elavation, but the view out my bedroom is incredible. Damn cities. Seattle has many many more rainy days thou, or misty.

Hi Ellen, I’m enjoying your content and subscribed to your channel, thank you! Interesting that you’re from Florida. I’m not from Florida originally, but my husband and kids were born here and I’ve lived here 12 years now. I grew up in CA and have also lived in Idaho, Georgia, Canada and Europe. TBH I have never loved FL. There are good things to be sure, but overall for me it’s too hot, no seasons, too many people over 65 (no offense to anyone over 65 but I’m not there for another 25 years), too many strip malls, too flat, I could go on. NC is very appealing in many ways. I’m a mountain girl at heart and love walks in woods, but also enjoy the beach. We’re thinking of moving to the Charlotte metro so we have “bigger city” amenities but the mountains and beach are still accessible. Prices are high but compared to CA where I grew up, still somewhat affordable. Happy Holidays to you!

I've lived many many places I was born outside of Chicago and I've lived in Brevard North Carolina for years now. It rains a lot you are right and we are actually classified as a rainforest. We are right smack-dab in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's raining right now but that's okay
Moved to South Carolina late 80s from Ohio thought it would be nice to get away from the snow had 10 inches in October one day didn’t think about summer to hot my neighbor wouldn’t talk to me because I was from up North met some great people teachers made it hard on our kids moved back to Ohio

The Biltmore Estate is expansive it takes at least 20 minutes just to get on the main grounds. And if you want to see everything at the Biltmore you at least have to take two days to do so.

You show New Hampshire but my state of Maine is off your map. If you want to be safe but pay the highest grocery prices in the contiguous United States move to Maine. although it's nice to watch the fishing boats come in I'm looking to leave behind an extended cold season due to my health.

Rain, as you graphic showed but you didn't talk about, Seatle has more rainy days. Storms, big and little, can dump a lot of water fast. In the summer you after get a fast thunderstorm that puts down quite a bit of water but is gone in maybe an hour. NC gets short storms in the summer and almost freezing rain several days in winter, not that you go out much then anyway. Snow not so much except in the mountains. NC is where hot southern weather systems meet cold northern systems. The boundaries vary and mix making the weather sometimes change rapidly. Clothing tip, layering. There are seasons here not perpetual summer or winter.
Straight roads? How boring. The state is old, is not flat and has lots of rivers, things that tend to create straight roads. Transportation fun facts, North Carolina has more lane/miles of highway than any US state except Texas and has more ferry route miles than any US state except Washington.
No sky, go to the beach. The trees are shade and make it cooler. Cutting down the forrest? No, timber is a renewal resource and has been stable for a long time. What you see are the local woods being cut down, for development housing and not being replanted. The housing boom is turning farms and forrests into sub divisions. There are three timber development areas in North America, the southeast, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, they each equal about a third of production.
If you like big cities, for God's sake stay there, don't move here! PLEASE!!

@@EllenPitts It seems to run in cycles. July in the 1960s there would be about two weeks of rain that turned the fields to mud a few years in a row. In the summer weathermen can go on vacation from June to late August and just rerun the same forecast. Highs in the mid to upper 90s with lows in the low 70s with scattered afternoon thundershowers.

Biltmore is beautiful! I will say it takes me about 8 hours to drive to the coast which isn't horrible. The outer banks are beautiful and everyone should go see the wild horses at least once! Good video!

Too late for me. I've been here since 1973. My wife and I like it! I ignore politics; I am Southern since age 1 day. I married a Yankee and yes they seem to be flooding the state. I kid them that they started coming down after Reconstruction. They say that they are here because of relatively low taxes and property costs, but they stay because we are friendly. Go east of Raleigh and you'll see all the sky you want. Get one if you must, but you don't need a generator. I've been here for 74 years and Hurricane Hugo knocked us out for 10 days(rural property).You do the math: 74 years multiplied by 365 days minus 10 days. Not much need. I did enjoy your presentation regardless of my different opinions.
I appreciate your different opinions!! That’s what makes the world go round. :) I ignore politics also. Nobody’s got time for that!! Regarding generators...agreed that it’s rare but when you need it there won’t be one in the stores. I definitely recommend it. We’ve used ours once in 21 years and there was one time when we didn’t have one and had to drive to Virginia to stay with my in-laws. It was a nightmare ice storm. I wouldn’t do that again willingly!!
@@EllenPitts The only time I could have used the generator (during Hugo), gas was not available. You have to plan for emergencies. Clearly I didn't.

I moved to Charlotte from Pittsburgh14 years ago and would never go back. We get 1-2 ice storms a year compared to non-stop cold and snow further north. Humidity is high most everywhere is summer. Air conditioning anyone? North Carolina has everything from beaches to mountains and everything in between.

Houston is so far away from everything! When I lived there I missed how quickly you can drive to a different climate here in Raleigh. In a couple hours you can be on the beach or on a mountaintop.
Nc is a shithole now. A very divided state. Rethink your options.
The roads in NC are good and I like dense trees which make the local climate cooler. There plenty of opportunities in the research triangle and Charlotte. My opinion about the state that I was born, raised and lived too long.
Roads are good? Not around the Charlotte area. So much traffic, and too many heavy trucks have made the road quality horrible.
I love driving through the mountains there.
Hi, I moved down here last year during the pandemic and got cancer at the same time. I beat the cancer and I’m just now starting to learn the area. I’m a little bit south of Charlotte. My friends that I am staying with are moving back to NJ but I love the south. Where in NC should I be looking? I have 2 dogs. Bully breeds. One is 45lbs the other is 80lbs. Biggest hurdle for renting a place is getting my dogs in.

Don’t forget zoning laws, you can put a trailer next to a $600k house!!! (See Garner).
That really depends. You have to check property by property. Even if zoning restrictions allow trailers, there can be restrictive covenants that prevent them. You just have to look up the covenants before you purchase. But one things I didn't cover is extra-territorial jurisdiction, which is important... Maybe I will cover that in an upcoming video.
I’m a Statistical Analyst who assists people who look to relocate to the Carolina’s. Not a bad video, but there are some things that are a bit off.
Though NC doesn’t have a NYC, LA, or Chicago (which I consider a good thing since people are fleeing those areas in record numbers due to the huge negatives those areas have), Charlotte has a big, clean, and safe urban downtown. Soooo much to do and experience. The “real” city thing that people talk about is a bit bizarre sometimes, lol, because it’s so enormously subjective.
Though NC does have more rain than the Pacific Northwest, NC does have way more sunny days. That’s an important distinction. You have the lush green, yet not the oppressively cloudy , dank, drizzly climate of the PNW. The best of both worlds, so it’s far from being a negative.
I know you’re probably from RDU, but with this being a video about NC, Raleigh was too much of a reference point, especially being so far east and so much smaller than Charlotte.
There are several overview videos is use for my clients about SC that do a great job highlighting the state. But I have yet to find even one that I can use for NC that properly represents the state as a whole, has the format I’m looking for, and that is between 3-10 minutes. You’re was great, other than the things I mentioned. I really can’t use this one because I know that it would give the incorrect impression that NC gets constant downpours with very little sun, which is not reality. Still, good video that’s on the right track. Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not trying to be a wet blanket. I was hyped that I FINALLY found (after over a year of searching) the perfect NC video. But the inaccuracy made it unusable for me. I really look forward to seeing more of your videos. Again, the format and length was great.

Thanks for the vid! Actually thinking of moving to NC for various reasons, one of which is that we miss trees. With that said, you mentioned that they are cutting down a lot of them due to construction of new homes. So, are they just strip mining the whole state to the point that soon NC will become like west Texas??
I don't think that is possible. It is very lush and green here and we get a lot of rain. Things grow VERY quickly. And they try to preserve what they can
Yes they are. Anywhere they can slap up a Starbucks or some other ugly box like housing. Violent crime is way up in Charlotte. Traffic is terrible. Won't be long before everything is overcrowded and ruined like so many northern cities

It is definitely changing. The whole country is in flux right now. So many people working from home are relocating to many different cities. It will continue to shift and change... it’s just the nature of life!

I was born and bred there. The Northerners are coming here and bringing their Democrat ways with them. Some small cities are good.
NC is the 9th state I've lived in & you never mentioned the kind people & the religious/conservative values of the state. This is the most "Christian" state I've lived in. It may not be for everyone & people need to be aware of that. Wherever you move do the research on the culture & religion of the area.
I have definitely mentioned the southern culture and how accepting and friendly it is in many of my videos. That is the primary reason I love it here and would never live anywhere else!

Flying into NC from California next month. I have a full week to explore the several towns I'm interested in purchasing property. Grew up in NJ, family lives in VA, NJ, NY and FL. I want to get back to the east coast....parents are getting older and I want to be closer. All my research tells me I need to be in Asheville. I think its the perfect blend of hippy dippy artsy fartsy and the conservative values I want to get back to. I've got my hopes up. I fly in the second week of September 2021 and I have a full week to explore and to find some property to buy (0r) temporally rent. Super Excited

Garner is less developed than other areas. They have tried to revitalize their downtown but there really isn't much there. They do have plenty of big box stores and shopping centers. But it's mostly subdivisions and Target. :) There are nice parks like everywhere in the Triangle. It is part of the Wake County School System which is good. Yes! I actually visited this year and they have social distancing procedures in place. It is a huge estate so it is very easy to stay far away from people. They have limited the number of people allowed inside the house at one time so you get assigned a time slot which cannot be changed. That ended up being a little inconvenient for us as you can't get into and out of the property easily and we ended up not being able to get inside at all because we missed out time slot. But honestly, even to see the grounds and the outside of the property is worth it. It's truly amazing. I don't know if anything has changed since August, but it was a good experience when I visited at that time.
Don't move to NC because of Biltmore. You'll have to take out a loan to pay for a ticket.
I've been to 45 states and there is more litter and trash in NC than any other. Otherwise a very pretty place, just not sure why people litter it so much.
It has been very bad since the pandemic started. There have been budget cuts due to less taxes coming in from businesses and road crews are one place that is affecting
@@EllenPitts Disagree. The amount of litter on the roads has nothing to do with funding for clean-up crews. Volunteers, adopt-a-highway programs, and prisoners do a large amount of clean-up. The REAL issue is people not taking pride in where they live, so they don't care how it looks.
When I was at NCSU a club I was in adopted a stretch of Duraleigh Rd. I can tell you from experience the worst offenders are cigarette smokers.

Until NC became so full of people from less desirable places, , we had no litter problems! I have lots of military in my family and they used to tell me that everywhere they were sent, people always remarked about being in NC, now pretty it was, and how clean the roadsides and parks were kept. NO LONGER THE FACTS.
You are right! People were not taught any better. Probably comes from the previous practice of throwing your cigarette butts on the floor - anywhere. My younger brother used to empty his ashtray from his car onto the street.

I Love it here..But now I can't afford to live here because of all the company's coming here are making property prices and taxes go up...5 acres with a 3 bedroom..179,000..Now...buy it and plow it and build 10 on it for 300,000 each.. Sucks.
Yes there are definitely some downsides to the growth. Especially for the locals. I’m sorry you’ve taken the brunt of it.
Same thing happened in MA about 15- 20 yrs ago, get involved in local zoning.. we now have in rural areas of MA 3acre- 5 acre minimum building lots per house, stop subdivions, they WILL RAISE YOUR TAXES AND HOMEPRICES... small businesses are vital to keeping taxes low off the property owners.

The main problem in NC, and elsewhere, is that there are TOO MANY PEOPLE. How you gonna fix that?
Durham has way too many cities with streets that constantly change names...that makes it difficult in the NC "cities"
Yeah that is a fault of much of the Triangle. It is pretty common throughout the area.
I believe it’s because 5e people that move recognize the nasty bit of history NC has and they think changing all the names associated with racists will pacify things and makes their fairy tale move to this state more tasteful
Hi Ellen,....I'd like to find out where people do Mountain biking and riding. I'm an RN....getting my resume "tuned up to move to North or S.Carolina in 2022 or 2023. Intention; rent for a year and then buy a smaller 3 br house to rent rooms/AirBnB or long term room rent to another RN/professional.
I'm sorry I missed this a while back!! There are tons of great places to mountain bike in NC! We have several national forests....look into Pisgah, Uwharrie, and Nantanhala National Forests. There are also tons of state parks. Linville Gorge and Mt Mitchell... Honestly there are so many! Just search for state parks and national forests and you will uncover a never-ending wilderness adventure!!

There are lots of low crime areas throughout North Carolina. Raleigh is the lowest crime large city in the state but the best way to find places you like is to start looking at homes in your price point and then check crime maps.

The Raleigh area is fine if you're looking for a overall family type place to live. For me it's pretty boring. The city lacks a good urban scene and downtown is not what some bloggers like to hype it up as. It's nothing impressive. And both the mountains and beaches are over 2 hours away. Everything is pretty spread out too. It all boils down to what you're looking for. But it's limited in terms of culture and entertainment.
I actually agree with you. I always tell people thinking of moving here that downtown raleigh is a few blocks. You can walk it in an hour. It’s definitely not for everyone!
