This clip makes me so sad; i remember citytv playing this in the 80s, when the station was shutting off for the evening. This is when Toronto was great; personable, small, friendly, with lots of personality. This was the Toronto I loved; not the hell hole it has become....💔
@@ninjacrumbs The was definitely Mr Gameways Ark at the north east corner of Yonge and Charles. The bottom flour was a huge hobby section, with each floor above containing different types of toys. Great store!
Love love love this song. I'd long forgotten about it, then heard it on RetroOntario and I was like "Oh my God... I so remember this!!" It sure takes me back... in a wonderful, nostalgic way.
Knew the song, didn't realize that it was Tommy Ambrose. Love the shot of the Centre Island wharf/pier. Toronto when it still had a touch of innocence to it.

I was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1989 and mostly lived in Omaha and San Diego all my life. I've only been to Canada once last year (Edmonton). Anyway, this song feels more like a tourism ad jingle than a network signoff song.
People's city is one of the greatest civic anthems in the world. It was so true and fitting for Toronto when it was written. I long for those days ! 2:33
I agree. With the quality of life Toronto offers, it's actually a little better than some cities of comparable size. Yeah, there's crime, but like you said, Toronto has advantages over other North American cities.
You're all missing the point. I grew up in Toronto and left in 1975 to the suburbs and haven't been back since - nor would I want to ! Toronto was a completely different place in the 1960's and 1970's, when this video and song were made - safe, clean and dare I say it ... respectable. Those days are long gone but this video and especially the song, bring back wonderful memories of Bloor Collegiate and a quiet life in the west end - forever gone.
It's too bad you don't have the original clip of Toronto in 1973. I hope it can be found and played ... uhhh .... are you listening people at CITY TV ??? Oh ... whatever happened to Chuck the security guard ?
Interesting. re: Crime, people REALLY need to compare crime stats with similar or even smaller sized cities around the globe (and even in Canada) before they complain! Seriously!
@@zehan2316 Too many condos that nobody can afford to buy unless you're an overseas investor.... Then they're just rented out at crazy prices, and nobody can afford rent around here anymore anyway 🥴
The music was produced in the seventies and was orchestrated by norman amadio (sic). The lyric version is sung by Tommy as indicated. I thought someone here would have an old clip of the City TV signoffs. I also would love to see it again. Come on city people, fuck moses and sneak a clip onto here.
Naser Deen no third world immigrants in Toronto like nowadays:( people spoke English and there was no annoying Chinese or Indian accent /third world accent and Toronto was Toronto affordability and Low crime rate On like now days everywhere you go you feel like you are in a third world country if you're a real Canadian Not this whole damn multicultural business that's design to kill Western civilization

Same. 😔
Totally agree. Toronto was such a blast in the 70’s and 80’s and some of the 90’s. Really started going downhill after 95.
So true
I want to go back to that time.
😢
Me too!
Great tune about a nice city! I’m from Buffalo, NY and enjoy visiting!
It was such a great city.
Operative word “was”
I've been living in TORONTO since 1975 this video brings back many memories...
I know what you mean...

This is the era i wish i belonged to
You know, I miss Toronto back in that era. This song was so relaxing to hear, just before the network signed off, and I went to bed.
I miss this Toronto too....and this song before bed. Hearing it again is bittersweet. But I love it.
The stations don't sign off anymore because the Morlocks, I mean... Infomercials, come out from underground now...
The more I see this video the more I long for the old Toronto:-(
I've called Toronto my home town since day 1. I'm quite accustomed to being here.
It reminds me of those years when I came to live here!!!!! 79
Love love love this song. I'd long forgotten about it, then heard it on RetroOntario and I was like "Oh my God... I so remember this!!" It sure takes me back... in a wonderful, nostalgic way.
From the heart of Toronto. The peoples city. This is Channel 79 Cable 7. Citytv..........EVERYWHERE!

I like the sound of it. sits on your heart
I will be returning to my hometown of Toronto for Christmas quite soon. This is a fantastic video and it made my day. Thank you.
I love this song, it makes me want to visit Toronto!
Yeah, you mean 50 years ago. Lol
Come visit! There's food from all over the world, and festivals all summer here!
One word to explain this video.........Everywhere!
Missing the old Toronto even more now that there is a covid19 outbreak😥

And get rid of abortion and no third world immigrants problem fixed
Nice.
this is our version of like Sinatra's "New York, New York"
This is the second version of the sign-off, and dates from the 1980s. Scotia Plaza is under construction in this version. It was completed in 1988.
Ya I guess when they moved further down on Queen St in 87 they updated some things. City was such a great channel from 75-05. ✌️❤️🇨🇦
@@OutOnTheTiles It's too bad that CTV/Bell media owns City TV now, eh? I love your profile pic though; love Led Zeppelin! 🤘⛧

What a fawking great song! Yes I biased as a Torontonian!
Nice song. I never heard it before.

Toronto has lost its charm since this vid was shot,
Its now: Toronto: Condo City.
More like Toronto: overcrowded and crazy.
I agree. With the quality of life Toronto offers, it's actually a little better than some cities of comparable size. Yeah, there's crime, but like you said, Toronto has advantages over other North American cities.
This song reminds me walking around Young St , watching l the action , going to arcades Sam The Record man Honest Ed's Dickie Dee's ice-cream wagon

I heard the theme when it originally aired.
The city has changed so much since then and not for the better, sadly.
Gee, I wonder why?.?.
Toronto really was peoples city at that time . Now ? 2:33
Actually that documentary looks very interesting.
In a lot of ways, it looked so much simpler and better with out the Rogers Centre being their, and all those condo buildings
I read somewhere Charile Sheens caracature in two and a half men was based on Tommy Ambrose.

i dont mind current toronto because I dont know any better, but 1:06 nice law and order font
They should redo it for today with gun crimes and drug dealers
That was Toronto, long long ago. Now Toronto has become a New York city 'wanna be'.
+Louisea Toronto has been better than ever before, in my opinion. It just keeps getting better, more vibrant.

Looks like a smoke stack.
oh, is that an abandoned building and a bum's chair at around the 0:24 mark?! How bizzare, not a very tourist oriented video.
Tomorrow's faces??? Really????
toronto is a shit hole now, i really wish i could have grown up in the 70s and 80s rather than the 90's and early 2000's.
