- I'm not going to say this is the worst overgrown garden I have done, but it's right up there! However, it is by far the oldest place I have had the privilege to work.
This is a very large garden, barns, stables and woodlands. All of it is overgrown and in need of some TLC. This is going to take me days and days, but its also going to be exciting. A surprise around every corner, and an amazing piece of English history.
A garden with almost 400 years of history and dating back to the 17th Century, join me on this epic journey as I adventure around this garden and try to improve this jungle and uncover the hidden beauty deep within.

The remote mower is genius! My back hurts just from watching you, this was a job and a half. Very well done.
Haha, it's awesome fun that mower. Although I get far less exercise when I use it 😂
Thanks, I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos for this place. Warning, they'll be quite a few 😂
Agree. That is what I would call 'big boys toys'. I bet Martin felt like that he was a young boy again with a remote control toy car when he was operating that mower.
You bet right 😅 I was like a kid on Christmas morning, and grinning from ear to ear. I'll never be too old to be a big kid! 😂
Plus, it makes my job easier. Win win 👍
We need to chip in some, and buy this man a shovel with a longer handle
And a wheelbarrow.
Yes! Do so! Thank you.
Yes! Please do so. Thanks.
Good to see another video from you, Martin. These old places are so charming and hold such memories. How fascinating. I love old places like this. I try to imagine what the gardens must have looked all those years ago. We'll find out as we watch you transform this awesome old garden.
You're so right, totally amazing. My imagination always floats off. The street outside would have been fascinating to. Horses and carts trotting up and down 🤯 there is also a very old pub in this village, and a Maypole 😊
With a tremendous amount of work you have made it look so much better. The laws of physics say that a long handled rake, shovel etc makes it much easier on you than the short handle. Since this is such a historic place I’m surprised that garden groups aren’t looking after it. I’ll be waiting for the next epic transformation.
Watching you tackle this overgrown garden reninds me why I can't let my 3 acres become a overgrown mess, still want it to be wild looking, but not with blackberry and elderberry or tree seedlings growing where ever.
I agree. They are among the worst offenders for growing anywhere they dam well please 😅 plus Ivy, although I've a special place in my heart for ivy.
What an amazing opportunity this is! I cant wait to see you uncover it bit at a time particularly the beds as you weed them through, looks like they have some gems of plants hidden in there.
Oh, thanks. I'm looking forward to it too. I've already been back twice and filmed some awesome bits for the next videos.
I hope you won't be disappointed. This place keeps throwing up surprises 😅
That was really hard work Martin! Well done! Can’t wait to see more of the garden revealed. ❤
Thank you. There will certainly be more, I've already filmed the next two episodes at this particular place.
It seems to be getting more and more of a garden/historic adventure 😅
Looking forward to seeing the other episodes!
Im looking forward to this one being finished.
If Brits marvel at the sheer size of America, we Americans marvel at the sheer age of Britain! 370 years! Wow. Had to laugh at the floppy disk you found though. Now that’s ancient history!😂😂
Haha, yeah, I was going to mention the floppy disk in the video, but I thought I'd leave it to the imagination 😅 wow, it feels like so long ago, but I had dozens of them. They wouldn't even hold the data for one photo nowadays 😂
Некоторым городам в России больше лет, чем всем штатам и Британии в целом.... Вот где восхищение... Да с размерами улыбнуло....
Oxford University was established over 500 years ago, and possibly even before that..
@sallyrobinson3469 more like a thousand, there was teaching happening there in 1096 and then really took off in the mid 1100's.
I had and used floppy discs😂
Thank you for saving the bee.
I like that you find the most unusual or original gardens 😊
Haha, yeah, I feel like that, too. I'm very lucky ☺️ not sure how it happens, but I always seem to find the gems.
Don’t give up on that driveway. This old property is beautiful. The plantings need to be neatened as well -so interesting
The driveway was the first task on my second day here😅. And also the third day 😂 wow, there was so much soil on it 🤯 it's looking good now though.
It'll be in the next video 😊
In fact, I may as well take my tent and camp there next time. It's going to take me ages 😂
Agree! So much potential!
I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU, MARTIN! I miss your videos and our chats. What a property this is! 400 years of history...what a treat. With it being so extensive, I'm looking forward to a multi episode series! The brick has so much charm and I can't wait to see all the other buildings. Oh how I'd love to peak inside! I laughed so hard at your remote mower! What a nifty deal that is!
I have nothing as exciting to report from my neck of the woods, just trying to prune and clean up before the weather turns nasty in November. Your adventure made my day! Blessings to you my friend. 💛🖤💛 Stacy
Blessings to you, too 🙏 ☺️ the summer here has well and truly gone. I was in the shops last week, and the Halloween and Christmas stuff is already making its way onto the shelves 😂 crazy.
I hope your well.
Martin
What a gorgeous property to work on. It will soon be ship-shape as you work your magic on it Martin. Looking better already. ❤
Thank you ☺️
I'm aiming for a Narnia like landscape 😅 it's going to take a few visits, though, haha.
I've already done part 2 and 3, and I'm still not that close to finishing.
Love to watch you clean up these gardens that have so much history and character! Great work!
Thank you ☺️that's very kind of you.
There will be quite a few videos here, I hope you don't get bored 😅
You are a very hard worker. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
What a place. Great job Martin. Looking forward to the rest of it xx
Thank you ☺️ 😊 🙏 so kind. There's going to be quite a few follow-up videos for here, it's a labyrinth of discovery 😅😂
What an honor and a privilege to be asked to work on this beautiful old property! ❤
You are doing a fantastic job! It's so fun watching it look more and more beautiful as time goes by!
If those walls could talk, oh, the stories they could tell...just think of all the people and their stories that lived within those walls!
Indeed, it was, I'm a very lucky guy ☺️
I've been trying to find some historical pictures of the place to see how it looked in the past. No joy as yet, but there must be some. 🤞
@@martinthegardenguy A local library or historical society may be able to help with pictures and history.
I love projects like this. Everything you do is a remarkably visible improvement!
This is just part 1 and I'm already in love with this garden! Great job as usual, Martin....shovel, rake, blow - my back is aching for you!😅
Oh, thanks. I knew you'd like this place ☺️ it's covered in history and wildlife.
It's going to become quite the saga though. It's a very big garden 😅
I love that remote lawn mower...just the job for getting around that garden
Can’t wait to see more of this property
There is gonna be so many videos for this place you'll get fed up 😂 I'm sure it keeps getting bigger every time I go back.
What an incredible property. Lol forward to seeing how you get through it all!
Beautifully done❤
Owww, thank you 😊 this is going to be a saga of gardening at this place. I have already been back twice 😅
It’s wonderful to see you back!!!!! Fantastic video.
Thank you, super kind of you. I hope you enjoy the rest of this series 🤞
I love English gardens…can’t wait to see more transformation do this wonderful garden….nice to see another video…Ontario Canada here
Thanks you ☺️
There will be quite a few videos, I've already done part 2 and 3 (part 2 out on Friday) but I bet there is still days and days' worth of work here. It'll end up being a saga! 😂
@@martinthegardenguy that sounds exciting….cant wait for Friday….
Wow, this will be an epic project. When you started, I thought it was just a dirt driveway, had no idea there was pavement under there. This will be really fun to watch you work on this garden. Please take care of your back. Stay safe.
Oh, thank you.
I was the same about the drive, I just thought it was dirty. There was an entire gardens' worth of soil on it 😂 even on day 3, I was still doing some of the drive cleaning 😂 I've also uncovered a gigantic pathway (which is in part 3).
I do like a garden with surprises, though.
And this place doesn't disappoint 😂
You have a mammoth job on your hands. Love what you have done so far and the lawn mower is genius
(There you are! 😉) This is such a fascinating property that you're taking on. So much history! I imagine, who may have lived there. Were they important people of the time!? Riding on horseback, up the brick drive. (Looking forward to watching this journey, with all its parts.)
👋 hi ☺️
I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a super treat to find this place. It keeps getting better, every time i go back. Already done parts 2 and 3 😅 next one out Friday.
I even found an entire building hidden within the woods 🤯 a beautiful brick and slate outbuilding. So full of surprises.
Thanks again
Martin.
Looks like an incredible amount of work. I'd be tempted to use a sod cutter on that driveway, it's so overgrown. Your progress is impressive, indeed.
That was hard work mate, starting to look great. 😃 Where is Ben & Paul from Flawless Cleaning when you need them huh 🤣
Haha, I could have done with their help for sure 😅
@@martinthegardenguy You could put a request on their channel😊
So satisfying Marvin, the careful detailed work, the history, simply brilliant. More please.
Wow … looks great !!! ❤
Good to see you back Martin! I liked your opening words helping to put the historical time period on this property. What a treat for you, to work on a 370 year old property! My mind kept drifting back to what it must of been like, who lived there, what the gardens looked like.
Seeing the Robot mower used on this historical property was a hoot! 😄
I look forward to this series; I think it is going to be interesting to watch. You have it looking so good where you’ve been.
Watching from Texas 🇺🇸
Hello 👋
Oh, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I was doing the same while I was there, too. Must have been horses and carts trotting up and down all day. It's stuck right in the countryside too, so it's must have been amazing. It's still lovely now ☺️ although cars and lorries aren't as esthetically pleasing as carts 😅
Hi Martin it's good to see a video from you it's been ages since I've seen one I hope you have been well.
All good, thanks 😊 🙏 just being a busy daddy and gardener. The summer holidays don't help 😅
Wow, it's gonna be an amazing transformation. Great work. Thank you for sharing!
So looking forward to future episodes😊So much work went into this one already😬It is going to be a wonderful journey, such a charming place😊
Oh, thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying it 😊 part 3 (when it comes out) is where things start getting really interesting 👍😁 and also harder work 😂
Hardwork for you, but a real pleasure to see such old garden restored bit by bit :)
My favorite to watch yard transformations is MidlifeStockman and Quickcuts. I have never seen some of the tools you use. Very fun watching👏👏👏
Soooo beautiful! Love it. Thank you Martin.
And thank you for watching, I'm glad you liked it. There is going to be more on the way at this place 😅 I'm sure the garden just keeps getting bigger every time I go back😂
Very much to do. Good job! 👍
It looks like nothing has been done since the 17th century. 😉😂
Haha, I was thinking the same myself 😅
12 minutes into the video and my back already hurts 😂
Oh you do such a wonderful job, I don't know how you back holds up...
Haha, so far, so good. I'm sure my back and my knees are on borrowed time, though 😂
Wow the best looking lawnmower I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂
Gros travail de réhabilitation d'un jardin abandonné qui n'a pas du être facile.
Bravo Martin. 👍
Finding the driveway was more like archeology 🤣brilliant jobs completely transformed and looks amazing 🎉
Great job, Martin! Can't wait to see the rest cleared! Thanks for letting us join you!
Thank you for joining me ☺️, I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's lots more to come 👍😁
This is going to be epic and beautiful once you have finished. I look forward to seeing more videos as you uncover this treasure.
Good to see you back, great job looking forward to the rest
Thank you ☺️ 😊 🙏
Awe , how cute ...you're doing great , looking nice ..
So far, so good 👍 😅
Thank you.
That looked hard work i felt your pain. Brilliant finish 🍻
I was quite hard work, but fun 😅 I'm one of those lucky people who love their job.
Even when I'm doing it for free! 😂
This is my first time watching you. You did a great job, and I love that you use makita tools, I use them too. However, I think you could make it a lot easier on yourself with a metal rake and a long handled shovel.
Haha, I keep meaning to get the metal rake attachment out of the garage but I keep forgetting.
I use it in my own garden, which means it never finds it's way into the van 😅🤯
You are an amazing person for taking on this challenge. 😊
What a job! Wish I was there to be your ‘gardener’s boy’. Don’t know if they have them in the UK but a lightweight garden trolley on wheels holds about 5 or more of your two handled trug so would cut down on the to-ing and fro-ing by 4 fold and on wheels saves your back. I keep one for the front garden and one in the back. A boost to morale, too! Take care and thanks for sharing.
I've used them in the past, but one of the drawbacks of using a smaller van than I used to have.
I don't have much space 😅
What a daunting job, that yard looks like it has not been maintained for years!
I like daunting jobs 😅😂 if it was too easy, I'd get bored.
Love the mower Martin. It's like watching a remote controlled car. Looking forward to seeing this wild garden being tamed x
It was super fun 😅 like a kid at Christmas, I was ☺️
What a fab property! Good job so far ❤
Thank you ☺️ there's more to come 😁
Martin, grat job. I like the remote control lawnmower
Me too 😅 its loads of fun.
I love your new lawnmower😂
Haha, yeah, it's awesome.
Although I do get a bit less cardio in 😅
Thou dost great work!🇨🇦❤️
I thank thee, from the bottom of my heart ☺️
What a lovely garden area! I would love a long wall like that!! Well done with your garden clearing, exhausting work. Loved the Robotic Lawnmower, I think I would like one 🤭
Haha, they are a crazy amount of fun. Plus, they do the job very well. But it's not the cheapest bit of kit 😅
The downside is, I'm walking far less now since I started using it.
Какая огромная территория! О такой можно только мечтать, здесь можно сделать потрясающую красоту
Thank you 😊 🙏
I have an only few favorite landscaping channels and yours is one of them, Martin. I like each one for a different reason. Yours I like because of the unique locations. This one did not disappoint. The remote controlled mower was a nice surprise. Sending you good tidings from 🇺🇸
Oh, thanks 😊 very much, appreciated 😊
I'm quite lucky really, I never try to get these lovely places to work in, they jist seem to come to me 😁 I hope it never stops.
Thanks again
Martin
This is gonna be great! Looking better already!
Look forward to the next video. Would like to see the plant borders cut back a lot more.
I'll be delving into them at some point 😅
I hope I don't get lost in them. They are quite overgrown 😂
You always manage to get different gardens Martin which makes it so much more interesting, this one is going to look fantastic how ever many videos there are, proper gardening ❤❤. Pauline. Wiltshire
Cheers Pauline ☺️
This village also has a Maypole 😁 I bet you'd like that info.
Superb job ❤
That’s a big job. Nicely done.
This is like the excavations of Troy!
Cool new toy (the robomower) 😮
Those clear hard surfaces will make such a difference come your winter, and, Winter is coming . . . 🐲 😮
Indeed, it is, the Starks are always right eventually 😅😁
I don't know where this year's gone to, it's flown by.
Incredible, to be able to transform this beautiful place. Great job, the side and driveway look amazing !!!!!
Thanks ☺️ so far, so good 😅 this is one of my favorite sayings 😂 it kind of sums up my gardening career.
Thank you so much, guys.🤗😊🙌
That’s a lot of hard work. I wouldn’t have been able to move the next day!
Haha, I get a but like that myself. Fortunately, I don't film that bit 😂
Très courageux, bravo 💪🙏
Oh what a joy, are you going to be doing the borders and pressure washing? Wish that was mine to do. Hours of fun ad lots of grafting.
Honestly, I haven't got a real plan at the moment 😅 I'm flying by the seat of my pants 😂
Getting the drive back and cleaned up would be good, though. I'll put it on my list 😊
@@martinthegardenguy Great, a gardener's dream.
WOW😮 What a great transformation- Great Work🥰
Wow what a beautiful property in hiding! For you to take on by yourself is so admirable and a wee bit bonkers! I know you’re going to bring this beautiful place back and I’m here for it! 109° this past weekend in So Calif - our plumeria blooms burnt up so badly. Your weather looks so much more comfortable!!! 😊🎉
Haha, yeah, our summer has well and truly gone. It didn't seem to be here long beyond a few hot days.
109 degrees would finish me off the same as what happened to your blooms! 😂
Love this garden restoration!
This is the first of your videos I ever watched. At the time I didn't understand why you did things in a certain way. After watching all of your videos I have to say you are a true gardener. You always have thought behind what you do, I really enjoy watching from my recliner here in West Virginia, USA. Today there is 6 inches of snow outside.
Haha, I do have a certain way about me 😅
Thank you for this comment, it made me smile 😊👍🙏
Good job!!
I just love the mowing robot . Keeping your energy for all the other tasks ...
So true 👍 I'm glad you can see it. I originally thought I'd be doing a lot less walking becauseof the mower, but you're right. I just end up using my energy elsewhere 😅
Wow, what a massive work! I like you don't speak that much, even you could , because of your nice voice... I hope, we have the chance to see you making the garden beds as well, maybe in a next episode😊
Thanks ☺️ I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll probably be doing everything. I've no plans on a finish date, so I'm just going to keep going until it's finished and looking pretty again 😁
Hello Martin! So good to see you again! This is going to be an epic series! I pray you and your family are well. Take care and God Bless. Sincerely, Diane from Missouri 😊. P.S. The robot was great and I also got a laugh out of the floppy disc. 😊
Hi Diane, great to hear from you. We're all good thanks, I hope you guys are too.
Thankfully, the summer holidays are now over, and the kids are back at school! 😂😅
I'Mm going to really enjoy this one thank you very muchly
Thank you ☺️ it'll be a very big series, so I hope you enjoy them all 😅
Thank you.
Love your RC mower - pretty cool. Big job - you're doing great!
Now I’m tired just watching you work so hard. Has it been a century since any work has been done on this garden? 😅. Great job.
Can’t wait to see the other videos on this transformation. You should get one of those scissor leaf grabbers to save your back.
Haha, I've thought about it loads of times. Especially in Autumn 😅 but I always forget to order one.
Great video ❤
I love this, the wilder the garden the better 💚💚💚
more than amazing WONDERFUL,
been missing you. Now, what an adventure!
It'll be the never ending story 😅 (I feel a song coming on) 😂
I'm already on day number 3, and there's going to be at least twice that.
Good to see you again! I’ve been watching for your videos. Here on the west coast USA we don’t have old houses. I live in the land of Microsoft and Amazon and houses built in the 1950s are considered tear downs. Finding the 3.5 inch floppy disk was archeology 😂. Those became popular in the mid 1980s, so that disk was probably older than you. 😮 the original Apple Macintosh used them. That was about the time I was getting my BS in Computer Science. I can’t wait to see the rest of the series
Haha, oh bless you 😊 I must look younger than I am.
I had all my school work on floppy disk, and games for my computer. I remember even having my college work on them. Crazy thing is, they wouldn't even hold a hi-res photo nowadays 😅 also I remember the 5.25" disks for the old BBC Micro computer at Junior school. A total beast of a machine.
Seems like an age ago 😅😊
This particular village is lovely and old, it's even got a Maypole. They still dance around it on holidays. It's amazing 😊
good job!
I hope they have you clean out those beds along the driveway. The clippings you've bagged up would be great mulch if you ran over them with your mower so it could go back in the cleaned out beds. Thanks for the video!
You are totally right 👍☺️ all will be revealed in the later videos.
I'll not be removing any green waste from this site at all 👍
Hi, Martin. I glad to see you!
👋 Hi ☺️
I've never seen a rake that you can change heads with....cool.
Wolf Garten tools 👍😊 you are right, they are totally awesome.
Grazie mille guardando il tuo video mi dai idee per sistemare il mio giardino!
Thank you ☺️ 😊 🙏
Brilliant job Martin. Well done 👍
Great start , flash lawn mower
Very satisfying.👍
