This is actually a decorative ivy, it's a small leaf, slow growing kind. It's not invasive at all. Although in the later episodes, you'll see me wage all out war against the English ivy! 😅👍

It's a big property, so it's a great idea to chunk the work up. If you have a harder day, taking more breaks or shortening the time you do something is good for your mind and body. I'm pretty broken myself (Diabetic Type2, the 3 back surgeries, and 2 arm surgeries), so it's a miracle if I get ANYTHING done. 🤣 I've learned to be more gentle with myself and just do what I can do. I guess worst case, you could get some help. I'm sending you the best vibes your way. Hang in there, my friend. 💛🖤💛

Haha, I did consider it. But I've been out with my kids' loads of times and collected a freezer full of blackberries. I've had them every day in my porridge as well. So I simply didn't need anymore. The neighbor had also been round here and collected some to. I don't like the waste, but by the time I'd done with the leaf blower, they were also nicely frosted in driveway dust 😂

I pull as much as I can out at root level but as it keeps growing back I’d love to use a weed killer but am afraid to kill my neighbours hedge which is right up against my fence. Do you think the vinegar would kill my neighbours laurel hedge if I use on the ivy.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I do lots of overgrown gardens. The biggest reason they get left, is generally health reasons. But I get that. Our personal health is far more important than our gardens ☺️ although there are other reasons I suppose. My own garden doesn't get mowed for weeks and weeks sometimes 😂

That being said, I'll be waging an all-out war on the English ivy that's growing in the woodland. It's everywhere 😅 so you should enjoy that one.

I'm not sure, but it's very old, so I'd be surprised if there is no damp. The old part of the house would have been designed to have a fire going almost 24-7 😅

I wasn't keeping them, so much as doing what I could in the time I had. You may notice there's quite a bit to do. They'll be coming out by the root at some point 😅

Martin, you need a longer handle on the square point shovel. You’re going to break your back. Is that moss that you are scraping off the driveway? Everything is looking better. Lots of physical labor for you. How many hours do you work on this project in a day? Take care and don’t overdo. 😊
There seems to be some kind of tarp on the ground, under a layer of leaves, dirt and detritus. Will you be removing that tarp? Or is that some kind of weed-barrier liner that needs to stay?
Yeah, it's a weed barrier membrane. With loads of gravel on top 😅 total nightmare, as the gravel has years of rotting garden waste on it now. So it's pretty useless as a weed stopper now. I've no idea what I'm going to do with it as yet.

I'll need the luck 😅 when gravel has that much soil in it, it's basically a flower bed but for weeds. I moved into a house with the same thing, and I had to remove the gravel, wash it all in a large sieve. And replace the weed membrane and then put the gravel back. It's was as fun a job as it sounds 😂
At the moment it's unoccupied, but the same family owned it for 3 generations. I'm in the process of finding out more 😊 so as soon as I know, I shall certainly share 👍

To get rid of ivy, pour vinegar on the roots
So I've heard, although I find digging out the root, also works pretty well 👍
