- Oona and Gage Brown are Team USA Ice Dancers. We filmed their 2020-21 Free Dance in Bryant Park's Winter Village ice rink at 6:45 in the morning over the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you to their coach Joel Dear for helping to organize. And a special thank you to all of our supporters on Patreon who make it possible for us to afford ice in one of prettiest outdoor rinks in New York City. / oniceperspectives

Thank you so much for watching and enjoying this video! It makes me so happy to see Oona and Gage's skating reaching a massively deserved audience. We filmed one more routine this day that I will be editing and posting soon, but in the meantime, do check out Oona and Gage Brown's GoFundMe page for their training season here: gf.me/u/zbu2q5. Even though many national and all international competitions have been cancelled this season, that hasn't stopped them from continuing to train, in the hopes they can qualify for Junior Worlds next year and possibly earn a spot at the Olympics one day. Again, that GoFunMe link is here! gf.me/u/zbu2q5
This dance inspired me to get back on my feet and start dancing again after I I haven't been able to due to having to go to physical therapy from something that happened to me in 2013
You are all awesome! Hope to see you at the next olympics!
Your welcome and which one is which cause i am a new fan.
Was a drone in use for the camera work? Amazing! That perspective opens up a whole new world for viewers to watch a routine. It was great!
That was just amazing, both the footwork and the emotions. Thank you for sharing this gem of these young people's work🙏🏻🙏🏻😍
Amazing camera work.
said the same about a minute ago - filming on the ice, by another skater, really worked beautifully.
the skating & performance, choreography & music, ALL brilliant
but THE CAMERA WORK 🤯🥰👏👏👏
is mind-blowing and adds even more nuance & dimension to the whole experience
This is how olympics should be filmed!
Okay maybe not but it would be awesome
@@dmitryf6069 i'm not so sure, as you can hear the cameraman breathing heavily at the end as the camera tracks back to the dancers.
This wasn’t just a video, this was an experience.

I was captivated the whole time
Like a rollercoaster.

Spellbinding. Such skill 💖 Watching from Oz 🇦🇺
I have watched skating for 50 years, and that program was one of the best I have EVER seen!! Amazing!!
It was gorgeous!
Myself as well. I used to watch the skaters in the 70s, but these two are the BEST I have ever seen!! ❤️
Same here!
So, no fancy outfits, No audience, just 2 people that captivated me. Awesome.
Meanwhile me sliding on the hardwood floors with my socks

Omg it's almost a crime that there wasn't really an audience. That was AMAZING! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's when you'll see the real skaters---at 6am, hard to get enough "ice time" these days to practice a performance.
I gotta say this is one of the best figure skating performaces I've ever seen. So in tune with each other. The choreography was so beautiful. It was magic!❤🎀🩷
I originally thought they were a married couple, it turns out they’re a brother/sister team.
Has more feeling than 90% of Olympic performances.
I had the same thought!
I know it’s sad unfortunately but it’s only because in the olympics they focus more on technique.
Well, they're not worrying about technicality here, no pressure. It is beautiful though!!
Couldn't agree more. This was so beautiful, I'm holding back tears
The way that camera moves also helps to see that feeling, I think, it looks almost like a music video clip! Beautiful performance regardless :)
The sound of their skates on the ice was like an extra instrument adding intensity to the music. Loved everything!
@Ron Thorp Jealous much?
The deceptive simplicity of the program combined with the exquisite fluidity ... The song adds a grit and darkness to the dance while their talent adds poignant beauty to the song.
yep - beautiful
We don't realize how much practice this takes. The sounds of the skates made it all the more exciting.
@@Iluvdoxies58 I agree, skating is much more interesting to view this way. The Olympics should be shown like this
I love that they are brother and sister, it's the technical, skill, strength, teamwork, choreography...epic.
Ahhh OK, this explains why I felt no chemistry or tension there. Beautiful skating though.
I've never seen such precision and oneness in a pair of skaters, ever. Even the song is a perfect match. What makes it precious is the absence of an audience
Acknowledging that the cameraman did a great job, we can't underestimate the perfection of both of the skaters.
I don't know that much about camerawork but the operator must have known their whole routine to follow every move so closely and not to get in a way. The result is amazing! You dont get to see that during the official competitions!
And the skaters? One word: PHENOMENAL.
@@Notachannel743 no, is not
@@Notachannel743 It's not, is Jordan Cowell, an ex Olympian figure skater, with a camera stabilizer. You can hear his skaters

@@Notachannel743 lmao just acknowledge the fact that you were proven wrong with grace, dude. if you're spreading misinformation, you shouldn't be salty when someone else shares the correct information
This is the way every skating competition should be broadcast: without commentary.
I generally like it. It is a competition. It would be nice if it was on a side channel that could be muted.
But when Tara and Johnny do it - I mute the volume. I can't stand those 'look at me' frauds!
Yeah if you know about ice skating the commentary is really annoying because its just saying what they are doing and if they made a mistake or not but if u don’t know anything but ice skating the commentary can be helpfull
Totally agree
I think the commentators have ruined the performances with their constant chatter. They have Time BEFORE and AFTER for their comments. This sport is also an art form. There is no need to ruin the music and performance with talking!!! Stop it!
@@catamia123 Ted Barton talks after they are done. He is excellent.
So much speed and distance covered, yet coordinated together, make their skating a delight to watch.
Camera work is the real star of this.... Not because they aren't good in their own right, they are amazing.... But the camera work is next level....
Without fantastic skating non of the camera work would matter!
@@lindawhite2297yep.... Thought I made that clear...
Those kids deserved to hear the sound of cheering. That was INCREDIBLE.
I was cheering and clapping 😁👏👏👏👏
Lolsss when they finished I had the natural urge to applaud!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah a little sad without a crowd
IKR
I am a big noob about this sport. But damn, I was entertained. They are very good!
Only one thing is missing … a massive standing ovation because they deserve it !!!! Ice-skating so fast, two people creating one powerful energy, and providing such a convincing story. They are absolutly synchrone like i had never seen any ice-skating couple before… ❤😮👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I kind of like it just like that, without the noise and the glamour. Just the music, the sound of the skates on the ice, and this absolute pearl of a performance, it is raw, meditative, perfection!

Молодцы, ребята🤍 Такая синхронность, глаз не оторвать!
It looks like the camera man is part of the choreography too, he knows every move in advance.... amazing
They do know ahead of time... Or the good ones do
- my brother-in-law is a cameraman he's done many olympics...I've known other people who have done sports in concerts
They study the choreography ahead of time.
But they also have automated multi-cameras which seamlessly looks like it's the same frame when it's not
I've also been to those ice capades shows years ago - when a skater falls, they have them come out after the show and redo those sections of there choreography so when it goes on TV it looks perfect
I'll tell you that I walked a NYC runway decades ago - you would never recognize me - I didn't... Don't ever rely on cameras as reality.
there's probably multi-camera work going on here.
You've got a good eye for detail!
Happy new year!
@@TheFoolintherainn that’s what I thought, it’s impossible to videotape this without knowing the choreography in advanced,

She is resting her foot on his thigh. He must have legs of iron.
Just makes me wonder how many times they practiced it
My god, yes

There’s something magical about the fact that there’s no audience watching. Imagine being out on a stroll and being the only one to witness such a grace and talent. Quite spine tingling.
Yes! I bet the guy filming off to the side is their dad but I kind of like the idea that he was just a random person on a walk who saw something amazing and had to record it
For some reason, the most beautiful art is always found where its not expected.
Interesting matter for thought! While experiences are enlarged-enhanced by the size of the audience, there's a feeling of experiential intimacy within the solipsism of Being while undistracted by human mass!
I just can't believe there is 1200 "haters". Are they blind ? Do they dislike "Nothing else matters" song ? I can't understand their motivation.
It's dystopian.
I’ve never wanted to be a figure skater so bad in my life. Their synchronization is insane
Massive props to the cameraman. That was insane.
The choreography...the effortlessness...they belong on the ice.
They're only JUNIORS and they're skating at this level??? I mean, this is national-level ice dancing! Incredible talent, can't wait to follow their skating career. They have so much potential.
I was thinking the same thing. What a talent. And what fantastic camera work.
As someone who has no idea of ice skating, why would it be national level? Yeah it was super cool but wouldnt they also habe to do jums and stuff like that?
@@shy8311 I think it's mostly their coordination. It looks super easy but it is really difficult to be as fluid as they are here and not trip over your partners boots and stuff. The jumps aren't too complex but bear in mind he has to move smoothly while bearing her weight and do turns which puts a good amount of pressure on your leg. It's so easy to mess up jumps to and spins, the closer or farther away from the ground are very hard to do without slipping as you can fall if not done at the right angle and injure yourself. It's all the centre of balance thing to as you have to make it look good while skating which can get in the way if your being technical about jumps and timing, especially in doubles as timing jumps is a good portion of the marks. Being able to do all this with minimal mistakes is certainly national level skating. Some professionals struggle with this in their 20s and 30s in professional skating yet they were able to do it so well. I would love to do this but sadly had to quit due to injuries, very impressed at their work. Sorry for the rant though
@@shy8311 these two compete in ice dance which is a different discipline to pairs skating which you might be thinking about. Pairs skating has jumps and throw jumps and whatnot. Ice dance is judged more like ballroom
@@shy8311 that's because they're ice dancers, not figure skaters. Jumps and moves like the ones you're thinking about are banned in ice dancing, which is mostly scored on artistry.
As an ice skating , particularly "ice dance" enthusiast, for over 40 years, this routine, the music & what made it over the top was the camera work for this beautiful performance.
I think it's my favorite even over Bestemianove & Bukin of the 80's ice dancing champions who won many titles in ice dance. Loved it to tears.

Silence afterwards. No audience. No applause.. makes it actually a worthy ending. Wow this was amazing
The song, the chemistry, the passion in this was EVERYTHING.
I know what you mean(at least, I think/hope I do) but it still reads weird having passion and chemistry ascribed to siblings.
@AunyxTM I agree and understood that's probably what the commenter meant. Those words just have such connotations that it reads ...oddly.
@@fe5018 Passion and Chemistry aren't solely romantic aspects. It's such a shame how that's the automatic default these days. That's another reason why I especially love this routine and this duo: they're fueled by a sense of intimacy that isn't often portrayed in skating. The vast majority of professional figure skating pairs always have this tinge of romantic and wondrous tension in their dynamic, their routines and their costumes, even if the relationship the skaters themselves share is completely platonic and/or professional. With this brother-sister team, we have a pair with a loving essence that almost nobody would mistake for romance, so they're not only delivering medal-worthy routines, they're flipping the stereotype upside down of romantic affection being the most prevalent affection, or the only kind of affection allowed, to be hinted at in the sport, or that the strength of sibling and familial love could never hold up to romantic love.
Almost had me in tears. So beautiful.
