I'm not shocked by Hakstol's dismissal, but if what Emily Kapplan reported was true, than I am shocked about that. Sounds more like a player mutiny than any ownership interference. A player saying that they don't want to play for a coach is a HUGE statement. Looking back, there were signs Haks wasn't working, but I for one didn't see any indication that the relationship between players and coaches soured *that* badly.
You never know for sure what's going on behind closed doors but I never got the sense the players had turned on him so if they did then they hid it well.
Just found your channel bro. Good to see another Kraken UA-camr. Also, the Hak firing was absolutely necessary. I just hope we don’t hire a dean evason type guy
I'm fine with it, especially if he had lost the locker room which it sounds like he might have. Having been in the locker room a fair amount as media I never got that sense but it would explain a lot.
Why can't we call it what that building is. Key Arena. We all know that's what it's called. Just like Qwest Field is Safeco Field, and whatever the Seahawks stadium is called it is actually The C-Link Short for Century Link Field
Yup I agree he earned and deserved better. Injuries and the players brought on board last season certainly didn’t help his chances for another successful season.
Hakstol gave us the 1st playoff experience so he has that soft spot on me. But we don't want our Kraken to end up like the Thrashers, so a good on-ice product is a must if the owners want to see revenue and for the longevity of the franchise.
The ownership group cares so they can't end up like the Thrashers, but still making changes if you're not happy with the direction things are headed is better than sitting on your hands I suppose
I know I was calling for Hakstol’s exit a bit earlier than most and we certainly didn’t agree on it in the comments section here. Having said that, I wish Dave all the best and hope Ron Francis finds the best available for our team whether that be Dan Bylsma or Rod Brind’Amour as those are the early favorites in the rumor mill.
That would explain the disconnect between how it seemed Francis felt about keeping him and this decision. It would also help explain the lack of effort at times towards the end of the season
It makes me a little worried. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but it truly makes me wonder, if they can snowball us...the fans, the media, the insiders...what other troubles might be lurking behind closed doors? What else might we have not heard about? Could there actually be some troubles with this club that no one's been privy to until now?
I noticed this also, especially during some losses that you could see the team take very hard and yet the coach didn't notice until a couple weeks later, that is when you know you have lost the respect of the team.
Think about this you guys. This is how I see it. Hakstol didn't fight for the team. He didn't challenge the officials on bad calls, he didn't stand up for the players. WHY would you want to play for someone like that. This whole thing started in the playoffs last season I think. After that little RAT Makar knocked McCann into the shadow realm in the most dirty hit in KRAKEN history. NO ONE retaliated after that. NOT A SOUL. No one when at Makar not in the playoffs or when we played them. But they sure went after Eberle on the Cogliano hit didn't they. THAT I think it's the coach telling them to "cool it". This is a league of grown men skating on ice at 30mph smashing into each other. Injuries will happen but you need a coach who will stand up for you. This is Hockey while Hakstol is playing Poker. He may be a great hockey mind but he's not a good HC. If he was here would not be bounced ever 3-5 years from every coaching job he's had
Bye Dave ! Remember he coached a flyers team that quit on him. it was a stupid hire to begin with. So obviously I’m definitely ok with this move and don’t see waiting 10-15 games into next season to get rid of that hack get a new coach and his system in place from game one. Now if they can lure trots out of his cushy consulting gig in Nashville or if Brind Amour contract negotiations go sideways in Carolina and get him I would be pretty stoked about either.
I don't want Trots personally but I'd be really excited if they managed to get Rod. I don't think it'll happen tho, this whole contract shenanigan stuff happened a few years ago with Rod too and they figured it out.
I know bring amour won’t be in Seattle anytime soon. And I forgot Trotz became gm over the summer. Doesn’t matter it’s probably going to be Bylsma or Leach anyways. Just my feeling.
Really I didn't like the hire of Hakstol from day one. This is the NHL. Not the league of professional chess players. He's too stoic to be a HC in the NHL. Teams need to know that their coach gets pissed off on the bench just like they do on the ice. Get angry over bad calls and chew some butt on the bench when a player makes a bad error or doesn't defend a teammate. THAT is why I think this team is so inconsistent. If the head coach is a Stone Faced as Mount Rushmore which he ABSOLUTELY IS. How is the team gonna get fired up and push back. There was aggression in season 2. Players defended each other, they fought back. Season 3 NONE OF THAT HAPPENED. This team needs a Coach like a Rod Brind'Amore, or someone like that who isn't afraid to light someone up on the bench, jump down a refs throat, and tell it like it is on the ice. This is still a new team with lots of up and coming players. There veterans can teach them how to be an NHL player. But the character has to come from the coach. If a coach is fired up to win then the team will be too. We got great heart in the team Turbo, Gourde, Eberle, Larsson, Dunn, and Borgen. NOW we need the spine to go with it. Bring us Brind'Amore. #KRAKENRULE

Okay, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I just hope it turns out well for both the Kraken and Hakstol. Kinda gobsmacked. GO KRAKEN!
A fresh perspective could certainly help them as long as they take their time to make a good hire for his replacement
Hope to see ya at CPA next season! 😊

Rod would surprise me if he left his current situation but I'd love to see it.
Someone posted that some of the players went to leadership in a mutiny. Him or us... Sounds like he lost the room.
