- Couldn't find a full version of the Great Commander's music from Star Fox (SNES). So I stitched it together myself.

ear mark of 90's era games, save the best song for a boss 99% of players will never see.
The music is the same for all Venom area bosses, the only difference is Great Commander is the only one with the intro.
Reaching this level a piece of cake but this music get me even pumped to kick the great commander ass 😎💯

Yup. I couldnt make it here for years as a kid, something like 4 years till I realized this fight existed in the game.

yeah. The original had this epic space opera feel that we really didn't see again until Assault.
Id think "Underlooked" Would be benifit.
I like how unlike all of the other Venom Bosses, The Great Commander has an intro score before the actual Venom Boss theme plays.
This just indicates that this boss is the real deal and is gonna be hell to beat.
And it was hell considering how difficult it was to hit its weak points (at least for me)
So I found that it wasn't just a me problem. Hitscan is just awful.
I believe aside from Andross this Battleship was the largest boss you ever fought. I mean if it launched from Venom in three pieces, you know your in for one hell of a fight.
Im pretty sure it was the Atomic Base, if you count the whole ship
I have a theory that the sector x secret weapon was a prototype for the great commander AI. It mentions many times that it was never completed. Andross probably scrapped the project. It seems that in Star Fox 64, the team took the fight to Andross much sooner than expected. In the original game Andross had a much larger fleet with battship units not seen in 64.
Lore wise the team wasn't reformed until after the Androssian invasion. Maybe the difference in the lore of these games is the amount of time Andross had to expand on his plans. He would have been able to do this if the Star Fox team took longer to counterstrike.
Its also possible he only built the great commander because he expected greater resistance from the Cornerian fleet. When that fell through it was just used to defend venom. It doesn't seem like it was designed to fight Arwings. It specializes in space fleet battle and ground invasion. Perfect for attacking Corneria.
An intresting side note: it was in sector x that Andross developed the space jump technology. Maybe that had a hand in the scrapping of the Great Commander program and why we see the Gorgon instead. It seems to use a varient this dimension warping technology.
Seems pretty good to me, considering that Starfox 64 is a reboot of the original SNES game.
I never realized how good the music was on this game until now. I used to play this game religiously too when I was younger. I was so proud of myself when I finally beat the hard path haha.
Even though both soundtracks are heard elsewhere in the game, the combination of the two, as well as the boss's ominously threatening arrival, and a unique boss fight mechanic on top of it all, makes this the most hype encounter in the game. In my opinion.
In a remake of the OG Star Fox for the SNES, this is a dialogue that could go like this.
1st Round
Commander: That's as far as you go, Star Fox!
Peppy: Incoming enemies from the surface
(the three sections combine into a ship)
Slippy: Three ships combining into one? THIS is new.
Fox: So, this is the Great Commander
Peppy: It's an AI?!
_AI-Controlled Warship_
*The Great Commander*
Slippy: Enemy shield analyzed
Commander: Forward cannons ready! OPEN FIRE!
Falco: How can Andross let a robot be a commander?!
Mid-battle dialogue
Commander: You do not stand a chance McCloud! Surrender and accept your death!
*Fox takes damage*
Commander: Hahahahaha!
Peppy: Circle around and fire the cannons when they open!
*Enemy meter is half depleted*
Commander: Not bad McCloud! But this only gets interesting!
*Great Commander is defeated*
Commander: This is not over yet, Star Fox!
2nd Round
Commander: Your journey ends here, Star Fox!
Falco: Back for more circuit brain?
Commander: Hahaha! Don't get too cocky. I have a surprise for you. Initiate transformation sequence!

Great Commander is destroyed
Commander: This is impossible! I am a computer, I cannot make mistakes!
Fox: Never underestimate Star Fox
Commander: *corrupted speech* AndROss wiLL dEsTroY you!
Had this game for almost 20 years and I've never heard/seen this guy until today. Game is so great.
You're not a real man until you beat route 3 without losing a single life.
@@PsychoJosh I've done that more than once. The real test would be getting through it with only single blasters the whole time, something I haven't attempted yet.

Also I think that single blaster might actually make Great Commander easier to fight but that's just me.
@@PsychoJosh I agree that it might make him easier. Blaster level 3 is too imprecise to be effective.
You probably are better at Star Fox than me, but that's not my point. My point is, when you say that you're not a real man unless you do some impressive feat in a game, it can sound like you've got a superiority issue.

placing those shiny weak points on the exterior however is not :p
Atleast one of them was a bitch to hit. Only way I could do it as a kid was kamikaze into it or get lucky with a bomb. One of the ones on the corner of the screen as the Commander passed by. I raged over that one spot.
They brought the Attack Carrier, the Meteo Crusher, and Monarch Dodora from the SNES.
I'd like to see Great Commander in these 3D games one day.
as far as Super Nintendo was concerned this dude was one of the hardest bosses. because you had the time your shots just right

Yeah! When I first encountered the boss and heard that music change I was like "OH HELL! This is going to be a PIA (Pain in the ass) I finally get to the 2nd part of the battle and get owned by him..Until I discovered Game Genie. >=)
Well if you're proud of beating a game with cheats more power to you but personally I think my balls would instantly shrivel up and die if I ever did it that way
The only time Game Genie is acceptable to use is if you wanna corrupt a ROM on a second totally legitimate console you bought from a Toy Vault store and not on an emulator.
