- Hash browns
Ingredients
* 4 russet potatoes
* 8-10 cups fat(duck fat, lard, beef tallow)
* Salt to taste
* 1 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
1. Peel and grate the russet potatoes using medium side of a box cheese grater. Add the shredded potato to cold water and agitate it to get rid of the starch.
2. Strain the potatoes and squeeze out any excess moisture using a clean kitchen rag.
3. Add the shredded potato to a pot along with the fat.
4. Heat on medium low until it reaches 210 degrees Fahrenheit stirring occasionally so the bottom doesn’t stick.
5. Strain the potatoes and save the fat for frying later on.
6. Season to taste with salt(2-3 tsp) and add cornstarch. Lightly combine together until fully incorporated.
7. On a lined sheet tray, add the potato to a ring mold and form them into an oval shape.
8. Place the hash browns in the freezer for a couple of hours or until completely frozen.
9. Heat the leftover fat to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and deep fry the hash brown for 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy(fry 1-2 at a time).
10. Season with a little more salt and enjoy.
“That’s it” as if he didn’t just spend like a whole day making simple breakfast item.
But once they're done you can freeze and eat them for another time.
What a dumb comment
Yeah, this kind of item does take plenty of time to prepare, which is why they are better off prepared prior to the occasion
Duck fat used for nothing but par-frying hash browns. UA-camr logic.
Why u crying lil bro
Hashbrowns= potato pancakes but fried with 40x amount of oil
Thats why i love them 🤤
yeah it is just- potato pancakes fried and lots of oil😊😊😊
So good tho-
If you don't fry them they will stay raw inside
More like a fried potato with extra fat.
This recipe looks good for making a ton just to freeze on one day and taking them out as needed for breakfast
it took me so long to prepare this but its worth it😭🥰
I love spending 2 hours to make a breakfast side.
Then just don't cook it if you don't want too, its not rocket science. You don't need to complain about a free tutorial.
Don't know why you're complaining when you weren't going to make it anyway...
Then make it in bulk, so you'll just freeze it and recover those 2 hours in the next days
Breakfast side? You must be american lol
That's why you make them in bulk. Foods like these aren't intended to be made one at a time
Looks delicious. Worth making and freeze some for another day. Ty
This guy puts more effort into his hash browns than I do in my entire dinner.
Potato is the best ✨✨✨
Step 80: use a ring mold just to make sure your hashbrowns dont look like rings ..
It's for portioning

Nice recipe 😊😊😊
This was an amazing recipe, wow. I just was watching this because it looked so delicious and I thought I knew how to make a classic has brown, but no. This was much more. I learned some new techniques. Thank you❤✌️
Oil soaked deep fried potatoes 🤤
😋😋😋😋🤤🤤🤤🤤
Simmering potatoes in duck lard really surprised me.
I tried this and it fell apart immediately after hitting the oil. Just forming them isn't enough. They need to be packed to prevent separation.
You used wrong kind of potato
@@Mrhandgrenadethat's not always the issue
It could have been how much he froze it, how much he blanched them in the fat
It could also depend on the kind of fat he uses to blanch
Duck fat is superior but it's a little harder to get a hold of.
That being said. Yes, for dishes like this, russets are a better choice due to the higher percentage of starch
HOWEVER you are also soaking and rinsing them as well as adding the starch
He also may not have a ring mold which your average kitchen may not have on hand
I have made such dishes with other potatoes and they have turned out nicely. You do have to handle them differently however
Another recipe briefly rinsed the potato strands only once so more of the potato's starch would remain, instead of doing multiple rinses.
Keep up the good work!👍🏼
Thanks! Will do!
great job. will try
"Mother father gentlemen." - hedgehog with an mcdonalds hashbrown

I was thinking exactly this lol
Smart and simple...

Beautiful 🎉
Looks so good🤤
I just got done forming the hashbrowns may I say the process takes forever hats off to you for doing this especially because I only got about 6 out of the potatoes 🥔 i suggest doubling the recipe if you’ve a family of 3 or more🥹
Sweet thank you
Love that trailer park boys tune
Why are all these comments so negative?? Good food takes time. Obviously all these people wouldn’t know that because they either only eat microwaveable meals, or have someone who cooks for them.
People have gotten used to convince of things they don't tend to know how most of their foods are made, but that also applies to you and me, it's why we're watching this video.
It’s pretty damn annoying how much people will go out of their way to cry about a recipe for “taking too long” or whatever. It’s TWO fucking hours BOO-HOO
its a hash brown bro. this recipe is impractical for anyone with a full time job that doesnt consist of making cooking shorts for youtube
Nice!
Yummy 😋😋
buenisimas
Bro these were my whole main meal when i was an child and it was cooked!, i prefer you to try the hashbrowns with shredded carrots it will give an extra taste for the hashbrowns!
Hash browns 3 ingredients; potato, oil, salt
Oh the sauce got me 😭
A couple of hours? I have to plan ahead then. Thanks for the recipe
Cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
You can totally skip the freezing part I made them in 5 minutes and came out good
That's HELLA WORK
I'll stick to the frozen section Champs and fry them in duck fat 😂
Деруни 👍
waaaaaaaayyyyy too much trouble skip the pre cook, an egg mix well then shape and cook.
Can't believe he made a better version
We do it differently on slavic countries. We use smaller grater, so we don't need to boil potatoes before frying. We also add one egg to the mix.
you are super underrated this recipe looks amazing ❤️
Thank you so much!
Mmmm
not sure why everyone is whinging about how long it takes, made the same thing yesterday and it took about 30 mins from peeling to being on the plate.
do we need to cool down the potato first before adding the starch?
So healthy
Its fast food what did you expect?
Trader joes sell these for $3 for a giant package.
Good job man 👍
add an egg and a bit more flour then shallow fry spoonfuls, 3 or 4 to the pan.
i find this helpful cuz I'm allergic to egg whites
@@etherealessence.sooo .. you never eat at restaurants?

I tried this and it tastes really good 10/10
What fat do u used?
@@fluffygarden2629 I used some duck fat and a little bit of butter :>
Goes to McDonalds and buys two, bam three minutes!
most potato items from fast food are partially cooked in oil and frozen. For all the haters-hes just doing what they do.
Thats insane. 😂 im pretty sure mc d9nalds is not soaking them in duck fat either ffs!
dude duck fat is actually really good
Not me sending this to my mom so she could make it for me
Cold or hot water ??
Served in 3-5 business days
Am i the only one that saw a face on the hashbrown?
We don't have Hash browns in my region. I wanna try them out. How do you consume them? As nuggets or can you pair them with anything?
Both- people pair with breakfast sandwiches, other breakfast, or eat alone
Potatoes go with anything
Oh that's all huh...😂
I'm new to cooking, what is the fundamental reason for rinsing the potatoes in cold water?
They will brown if exposed to the air for too long. Keeping them moist keeps their color.
Jesus so many steps just to make something out of 1 ingredient now that's science
You ever seen Joshua Weismann videos?
Ayo wtf you doing on UA-cam my bruddah, Spiderman out there fighting fo his life!
😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉 the trillion dollars and 1 billion cake
Is that only me who thinks that he looks like Piyush from shark tank India??
Nothing really beats the iconic McDonald's hashbrown. Except literally every other hashbrown in the world. Why make something great and then refer to it as a McDs knockoff
😂😂👌
needlessly overcomplicated. this should be quick & easy recipe
My Grandmothers Favorite Hashbrown Recipe:
Step 1: Add 1 gallon of gas to a combustion engine vehicle
Step 2: Drive yo fatass down the street to Mickie Ds
Ingredients:
1 gal of gasoline
1.5 tons of 2012 Honda Civic

Duck Fat Hashbrowns. 🤤
buy the hashbrown and trader joes then deep fry your.. sprinkle some salt and onion powder that’s it
Just buy pre-made Hash browns at the store.😂
We dont need mcdonalds 🇵🇸👊🍉 thanks for this dude
"And that's it"
Anyone else that actually cooks triggered by this?
Can you please write the recipe in comment 🙏
Because its look tasty and easy but I didn't get it😔
or just fry them right away and reduce the cooking time from 4 hours to 15 minutes
Skip all this. Just put the shredded potatoes into a hot pan with oil. Add salt if you want
As a German seeing you putting ketchup instead of applesauce on it is heartbreaking
DIY hash brown is clearly a bad time investment
underrated bruv
You know what beats a crappy mcdonalds hashbrown? A home made one. Cuz you know what's in it. You're crazy.
wash the starch out then add starch
Wait I thought you rinse the potatoes to get the starch out. But then you added starch…
Heyyy we brown people call it "pakorha" 😅
Dude did this and they just broke to small small pieces
Too much effort when diner hashbrowns taste practically the same
Gedegedeodago
Now I want some
Mcdonald's hashbrown isn't even shredded lol
Драники
I'm confused call me you wash off the potato starch and then add cornstarch Hmmm... I'm going to try making hash browns but mixing them together then frying them in the oven or air fryer. 🤞 A lot less calories and healthier for you
you wash them to keep them from oxidizing and going brown
Nah. Ask for salt and pepper and put them on the hash brown and then dip it in honey mustard
Only 4 ingredients but a day’s of work
"Best served with a side of ketchup"
Nah dog.
4 ingredients!!?? That's a lot ! Try my 1 ingredient McDonald's hash brown! Step number 1: 1 hash brown please.

Potato, fat, salt, and starch. You suck st counting my nigga.
