It was probably just an experiment. You wouldn’t know for sure it wasn’t going to do nothing or the same as vaseline until it was tried. It’s photography, an art, there’s going to be experiments sometimes where the outcome is disappointing or not what was intended. A photographer who also does content creation about their photography is likely to try different things and continue to experiment in order to keep things interesting
We found the non-photographer! The light capturing elements of a lens are curved and dark, because there is no extraneous light inside the path of the lens to exposure plate. This “lens” he’s destroying is called a UV filter, which is maybe $12. The more you know🌈🌟
There is a lens filter on the camera and that's what he applied the nail polish to. Maybe this is an effect he uses often so it's going to be re-used often enough to be worth doing. Even if not, lens filters are typically cheap.
A bit underwhelming-as others have pointed out there are easier ways you could achieve that effect..but you can’t know the results until you try it. Still looked cool in the end.
Gel polish can be wiped away with alcohol. However, wouldn't it make sense to make a filter to go over the lense that doesn't potentially damage the lense? I'm thinking paint out an area on a nonstick surface with gel polish, cure the polish, then peel it off and trim it to fit over the camera lense.
@m.c.3640 no, like I said, it is being put on a filter. A lot of photographers buy cheap uv filters like this one to use for this purpose. It is common in the industry - I worked as a professional photographer for 15 years. You can get the filters for about 10 euros, maybe even cheaper. It has been a long time since I bought one so I'm not sure on current prices.
Can we appreciate here that there is someone who still knows how to shoot a good photo with and old Mamiya. Those were the days. Now we pick up our phones, ad a filter with and app, shoot about a 1000 pics and probably end up with 5 decent ones. Good photography is an art. Appreciate it.
Beautiful as usual. Admittedly, as there appeared to be glitter in the nail polish, I was hoping that would reflect more clearly in the pictures. Like a sparkle effect around the border. 😁 But, still stunning.
Was expecting so much more thank just a slight fog. Can literally do the same by attaching cling wrap around the lens and won't have to damage it like this.
He seems do do this for the clicks I will no longer be clicking his videos. Bros post the same thing over and over 😂 bro pops up every month and give some idea and it gives the same result has all his previous photos 🤷♂️

Could you try to draw stars in Vaseline or something on the camera lens? I feel like with some nightlife photography and a bunch of lights it could look cool ☺️
the stars will not be visible, there will be a blurred image. To make stars - in front of the diaphragm hole there must be a star-shaped hole, I don't know how to explain it better
yeah, I tried it a couple of times. It is visible if you are shooting against the hard light. If you try it on the night photoshoot - you will see a lot of stars :)

Какой смысл красить фильтр лаком, если на том же алике можно купить много разных таких же необычных светофильтров? И с блёстками, и с разной формой и вогнутостью стекла. И такие прослужат на всю жизнь, и стоят дешевле обычного светофильтра и лака
I think glitter lip gloss would give similar results and would be easier to clean off 💖

You can mix vasline with glitter ❤
Yeah, and poor ppl better don't try any of this, ah well.. we don't even have a cam except the one that sticks in smartphone lol

The great thing about this technique is that you ruin an entire lense instead of just applying a filter or doing some effect by hand. So smart!
